Trouble on Oracle Linux 6 with ULN.

Aloha!
I have installed Oracle Linux 6 on a virtual box, this is to test Oracle 11g database installation. I cant proceed to installing the database since i cant load some of the packages and i cant activate ULN registration. I have tried using the public yum server using this site "http://public-yum.oracle.com/" , i am successful with the first and second steps but not on 3rd since i cant edit the said config(public-yum-ol6.repo), because of this i cant even load the smb. Please help me for this is my first encounter with linux platform.
Thanks in advance.
Hades

Ok. The default server installation of Enterprise Linux 6 will not install a desktop interface. In case you are not familiar with VNC or remote X-Windows or if this is a new installation, then your best option will be to reinstall the OS, but then select the additional Desktop package options.
Without knowing what you installed it will be difficult to give a solution beside using the VI editor. If you don't know how to use VI, please try to search for "Linux vi tutorial" in Google.
sudo vi /etc/yum.repos.d/public-yum-el6.repoAlternatively, if you have the desktop options installed, you can log into your Virtualbox Guest OS desktop as user "root" and open "Text Editor" from the Applications, Accessories menu, or type "gedit" instead of "vi" from command line.

  • Parameters of NFS in Solaris 10 and Oracle Linux 6 with ZFS Storage 7420 in cluster without database

    Hello,
I have ZFS 7420 in cluster and OS Solaris 10 and Oracle Linux 6 without DB and I need mount share NFS in this OS and I do not know which parameters are the best for this.
Wich are the best parameters to mount share NFS in Solaris 10 or Oracle Linux 6?
    Thanks
    Best regards.

    Hi Pascal,
My question is because when We mount share NFS in some servers for example Exadata Database Machine or Super Cluster  for best performance we need mount this shares with specific parameters, for example.
    Exadata
    192.168.36.200:/export/dbname/backup1 /zfssa/dbname/backup1 nfs rw,bg,hard,nointr,rsize=131072,wsize=1048576,tcp,nfsvers=3,timeo=600 0 0
    Super Cluster
    sscsn1-stor:/export/ssc-shares/share1      -       /export/share1     nfs     -       yes     rw,bg,hard,nointr,rsize=131072,wsize=131072,proto=tcp,vers=3
    Now,
    My network is 10GBE
What happen with normal servers only with OS (Solaris and Linux)?
Which parameters I need use for best performance?
or are not necessary specific parameters.
    Thanks.
    Best regards.

  • Certification of Oracle Linux 6 with Oracle Database 11gR2?

    Dear Oracle Corporation,
You released Oracle Database 11gR2 in September, 2009.
Then, you released Oracle Linux 6 on 12 Feb 2011.
Then, you released Oracle Linux 6.1 on 1 Jun 2011.
Then, you released Oracle Linux 6.2 on 20 Dec 2011.
And, here we are on 21 Feb 2012, and you still have not certified Oracle Database 11gR2 (your most recent and up to date version of the database that's currently available!) with Oracle Linux 6!
You think you'll get around to that, any time soon?
    All my love,
    -Mark

    Hi Hans;
    Thanks for answer ;)
Because it is not a certifiaction issue. It is a timing issue, and that is in the hands of the legal department. Support can do absolutely nithing about it, and if they indicate a date, the Support Analyst will likely get fired. Please imagine, let us say my company always prefer to work lastest version of server, oracle products and also OS because of company policy. If I want to use 11gR2 with lastest version there is no problem. Because Oracle suggest to use lastest oracle version because of new futures wiht less bugs. So in my company happy with to use lastes oracle products and my company always want to work oracle linux. Big bosses ask the manager " Why we are still using old OEL 5.x version, there are already new products avaliable at market, If oracle 5.x perfect why they made annoucement new products, If they not certified wiht their other products why they create new OS, is it bad to use *nix 6 instead of 5?
So I wonder thah question and Dont I have a right to get to find some answers from oracle which I pay xxx$million dolar each year for their products and their metalink support.
So if its timing issue and let us say again I am only using windows not any other OS. Why oracle publish same product for different OS? If its timing issue than there are huge difference between annoucement
You released Oracle Database 11gR2 in September, 2009.

Then, you released Oracle Linux 6.1 on 1 Jun 2011.
Then, you released Oracle Linux 6.2 on 20 Dec 2011.2009 and 2012 ? It isnt big timing issue? :)
Anyway thanks for answer once more.. Let us see when some product will be certified wiht newer OS.

Oracle Linux is derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which does not support upgrading between major versions. Red Hat does not support in-place upgrades between any major versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In-place upgrades across major releases do not preserve all system settings, services or custom configurations.

  • Oracle 11gR2 certification for Oracle Linux 6

    Hello,
According to Oracle documentation, database certification and support for Oracle 11gR2 under Oracle Linux starts with 11.2.0.3.
I was wondering if this might have anything to do with the i386 software prerequisites. Speaking of Oracle 11gR2 x86_64, the need for i386 libraries was removed with 11gR2 11.2.0.2. Or in other words, one can go straight to 11.2.0.2 without the need to install any 32-bit libraries.
Under Oracle Linux 5 x86_64, the "oracle-validated" package triggers the installation of several i386 packages. Under Oracle Linux 6 x86_64, the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package uses x86_64 only. Under Oracle Linux 6, i386 changed to i686.
For what it's worth, I have installed Oracle 11gR2 database 11.2.0.1 under Oracle Linux 6.1 to 6.3, both x86_64, simply by using the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package, and so far have not noticed any problems. Is there some information available, why 11.2.0.1 (x86_64) should not be used or is not certified for Oracle Linux 6 (x86_64)?
    Thanks.

I was afraid of that. Since the question is Oracle Linux 6 specific, I thought I'd try my luck here, thinking that if I get an answer, then probably here. Maybe it was not very realistic to get an answer anyway.
For what it's worth. Using "oracle-validated" under Oracle Linux 5, and "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" under Oracle Linux 6, I was able to install Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.1 just fine, both platforms x86_64 and 32-bit. I have not found any operational issues yet and it seems to run perfectly well.
The only trouble I had was with Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.1, and here 11.2.0.3 is indeed required for it to install. I made a custom patch, just a few lines and after that 11.2.0.1, both x86_64 and 32-bit installed just fine and is fully operational.
I'm though I could post the patch. I guess it might make those people happy who do not have access to Oracle support and download 11.2.0.3. The patch will allow them to use the 11gR2 OTN version and install it under Oracle Linux 6. It won't be certified, but it is good enough for the purpose of education.
    I'm closing the thread.

Plz I hope someone could help me, I am planning to Install Oracle 11g R2(11.2.0.3)
on Oracle Linux 6 with ASM for a production environment.
My doubt is: Is it a stable combination ? someone has experience working with this version ? is there some Oracle documents to support this implementation on Production ?
I have been installing and working with 11g R2 on Oracle Linux 5 (5.7,5.8) with ASM for some time and I didn’t have problems, it’s very stable combination
My situation is this: Our client insist on use Oracle Linux 6 on a new Oracle implementation, even when we told her Oracle Linux 5 its Very stable, so that’s why I am asking for some advice, because it’s a production environment 7x24.

  • Oracle Linux and SSH

    Hallo!
    I have a MacBook Pro 64 bit Version: 10.8.5 .
I installed VirtualBox 4.3.4 on it.
I used to install Debian Guest OSs.
I used under Network 'NAT' with Port Forwarding
There I mapped the Port 22 of the Guest OS with 60xx Ports.
Then I opened the shell on my Mac and did a ssh connection for example in the following way:
    ssh -p 6011 root@localhost
    And it worked always fine.
Then I installed Oracle Linux6 on my VirtualBox.
And I did a Port Mapping: Port 22 on Oracle Linux with 6017 on my Mac.
    When I do
    ssh -p 6017 root@localhost
    it comes
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
I think that has anything to do with the configuration of /etc/ssh/sshd_config?!
Can anybody show me how this file should look like?
Or do I have another problem?
    Thanks for any help!
    Gerhard

    Hi Dude!
    Thanks for your comments!
I use 'bridged network adapter' if I want to connect from my 'Guest'-OS to the Internet.
In my case I want to configure my Mac with its OSes as a 'Stand-Alone' Machine
(I live in Mexiko on the Countryside and often I don't have connection to the Internet).
That means, that my Mac is my Client and my Host-Server at the same time.
I install a database on my 'Guest OS', start my 'Guest OS' and that all.
All the rest I want to do, is to access to my 'Guest OS' from my Mac.
I do all my SQL, PL/SQL and DBA stuff from Oracle SQL Developer installed on my Mac.
I work with APEX and I access to the Database installed on my OS via my Browser installed on my Mac.
And for any work on my Guest Linux OS, I do that with my Mac Shell.
I did the same for many time with my Linux Guest OSes Debian and Ubuntu.
    And it worked always fine.
But I never tried it with RedHat Systems.
I compared my /etc/ssh/sshd_config of my Oracle Linux OS with /etc/ssh/sshd_config of my Debian OS.
And the configuration is very different.
So I don't think, that it is a problem of my VirtualBox Network Configuration.
If it would be a problem of my VirtualBox Network Configuration, why does it run with my Debian OSes without problems?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Making docky or cairo dock work with oracle linux

    Are you referring to: http://www.zdnet.com/free-software-father-declared-ubuntu-linux-to-contain-spyware-7000008516/
Well, I would not necessarily consider above article a show stopper to use Ubuntu. You can turn the surveillance off. Many if not most software products call home and there seems to be a global trend to penetrate internet users with intelligent advertising and marketing. So they probably get you in one way or another. Just install a web add-on like "Ghostery" and you might be surprised.
CentOS, Scientific Linux, Oracle Linux, etc., are all free derivatives or clones of RHEL and as such will give you the exact same trouble with unsupported hardware. Fedora is the closest Linux distribution to RHEL designed for computer desktops.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_derivatives
If not Ubuntu, then perhaps Linux Mint will suit your needs.
    http://www.linuxmint.com/
You can install free Oracle VirtualBox and give all these Linux distributions a try before you consider dual-boot.

  • Network problems with Oracle Linux 5.7 on Vmware ESX 4.1

We recently installed Oracle Linux 5.7 64 on Vmware in order to run OVM Manager 3.02. The VM experiences random frequent network connectivity problems. There are no errors showing up in the network stats. The Vmware environment hosts many production VMs with no issues. We did have some trouble configuring Vmware tools with the uek kernel, so we booted the vm with the base kernel and we were then able to configure Vmware tools with no problems. We have tried running the VM on two different ESX servers with no improvement.
The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions.
I am not very experienced with linux, being primarily a vmware and aix admin. Any tips on stabilizing Oracle Linux on Vmware are greatly appreciated otherwise, I will have to beg for a new server to host the OVM manager.
    Thanks,
    Bob

The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions. Before you check on software and driver updates you might want to check your hardware settings. I've seen problems like this before when using a bad network cable or having a duplex mismatch. The later can happen when changing from a router to a network switch and configuring the switch for fixed full duplex. Depending on which end you sit you won't even see any network errors, but packages will disappear depending on traffic. Make sure you have set server's NIC and network switch port to the same topology ie. fixed or auto-negotiate, but not mixed. You can use the "ethtool" on the Linux system to verify the current settings.

oracleasm (aka asmlib) may not be supported on RHEL(OEL) 6.x. You do NOT need asmlib and it's days are numbered.

I want to upgrade my OS from official repository on Primary and Standby Servers. And I have a question:
Will I have a problem with my RDBMS after upgrade OS (e.g. statuses in dba_registry will become INVALID)?

    It's Ok.
    Now I have:
    $ cat /etc/issue
    Oracle Linux Server release 6.4
    No any problem.

  • Dual  Boot Pre install Windows 7 with  oracle linux  on a dell laptop

I'm new in linux. want to install oracle linux on my dell aptop. it has existing windows 7. how can i install oracle linux without affecting win 7 files.
is oracle linux can be install on laptop.

My advice to you is, since you have established such a reputation on this board, on issues that you don't have any knowledge or don't feel comfortable about, please just keep quiet. I don't think your job is to answer every question that has been posted on this board. Recklessly, or worse, knowingly, providing a wrong answer is much worse than no answer at all. These are serious personal accusations. Are you trying to make some noise to create some visibility for yourself? Please don't steal any of my limelight! ;-)
Personally, I don't particularly appreciiate many of your responses to some of the questions that I posted. To me, your responses are rude, idiotic (and insults to my intelligence)!Sorry, I have no idea what makes you so upset. Are you just making this up? What questions and answers are you taking about?
Are you referring to this post: Ralink RT5390 Does Not Work on the UEK Kernel
May I quote/remind you of your own posting:
We installed OL6.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a new Asus X45A notebook. It has a Ralink RT5390 wireless card. With Ubuntu, both wifi and video work flawlessly. However, the wifi driver (from elrepo) does not work for the the uek kernel (2.6.39). While the wifi driver works when boot into the RHEL kernel (2.6.32), it created an "even bigger problem" in that the video starts at about 1/10 from the left edge of the screen.
But again, please no one be fooled by my overly optimistic and simplistic comments*. The reality is, I am glad OL6 desktop works at all.
    * For example, I actually installed OL6 on 4 notebooks, one of them "does not work" because I couldn't dim the screen. I did not intend to lie, but subconsciously, I somewhat forgot that there was this failed case.
So what are you really trying to tell us/me here?
I think you have shot yourself in the foot here. I'm afraid the best I can offer to you is to remove my response if you remove your post.

It could be a hardware issue. I suggest to run Memtest. You can download a free stand-alone disk image, which you can burn to CD from here:
    http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm
Then burn the iso disk image and restart the computer from the appropriate media. Be sure to follow the instructions of your CD/DVD software to properly burn .ISO images. There is plenty of info on the web.
