Trouble on start-up

My black macbook started crashing quite a bit, with different programs crashing (firefox, iphoto, word etc) I then would get messages telling me I needed to restart (the screen came up with various languages)
Now when I reboot it either won't get past the grey screen and starts making annoying beeping sounds or the apple and load wheel come up but won't continue further.
After many restarts pressing various keys (holding option) or holding option and command I managed to load it a couple of times and updated to 10.5.6 and the latest security update, but now I can't get it to load up anymore.
Any suggestions? I don't have the startup disk with me.

Are you still hearing the beeping sounds? How many beeps do you hear?
Sounds like your RAM may have gone bad. Check out this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1651
and reseat the RAM modules and/or remove one at a time to see if you can get things running again.
If you're near an Apple store, set up an appointment and have a Genius take a look at it.

  • Having trouble getting started with my new shuffle

I am having trouble getting started with my new shuffle. any help?

    Hey there Feisty59,
It sounds like you have a new iPod Shuffle, and want to know how to start using it. Here is a great resource for understanding how to use your iPod, and how to set it up and get music synced to it from iTunes:
    iPod shuffle User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1550/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User _Guide.pdf
If you have a different model of iPod Shuffle, choose yours from the following page and use that guide instead:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Help! trouble when starting my powerbook G4

When I press the start button, the screen stays dark for a very long time after the initial "bell". I then get a flashing square with a blue earth icon in the middle of the screen. This turns into a flashing folder icon with the Finder Faces and a question mark alternatively.
Finally the Apple logo appears with the sun-looking clock and Mac OS X starts logging as normal.
Please advise as it looks terribly serious and I'm afraid it will have more and more trouble starting.
    Thanks in advance.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

From your description it sounds like the computer is having trouble finding the System folder. It's apparently looking for network drives- that's the blue earth icon, then it's going to local drives (the finder/folder with the question mark). When it can't find what it's looking for it goes through all of it's options until it finally finds a bootable disk and then it actually starts to boot. If you tell it what system folder to use, it should fix your problem. Go to your System Preferences, and open the "Startup Disk" preferences pane. Choose which System folder you want to use and click on it. Now that you've told it which folder to use, it should be able to bypass all of that looking and go straight there.

  • Trouble Printing Start Times in Weekly View

I'm unable to print the start times for some appointment. I noticed that they all have a duration of 1 hour or less so I suppose that it could be because of the lack of space. Does anyone know if there's any way change the font size or another work around?
    Thank you.

    Siddharth,
    can you please elaborate this
    Thanks

  • My MacBook pro has slowed to a stop after upgrading from lion to mountain lion three days ago. Apps started freezing, now it has trouble even starting up. So disappointed with Apple right now.

Mountain lion has caused my MacBook to freeze up and fail to even start up.

Glad to hear that!  Often, a drive that has minor corruption that has gone unnoticed will melt down when a major system install writes tens of thousands of new files.  That's probably what happened to you.  In the future, you should always reboot in recovery mode (hold down command-R at startup) and repair the hard drive with Disk Utility prior to any system update or upgrade.
Regarding iLife, what system did your machine originally come with?  If Snow Leopard or earlier, the iLife apps will be on one of the gray disks that your machine shipped with (the one labeled "Applications").  Alternately, if you bought newer versions in the App Store, simply open the App Store and click Purchases...  they should show up there.
If your machine came with Lion preinstalled, you should be able to re-download iLife from the App Store.  There's information on how that is done here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • Trouble getting started

I just got myself a 30gig ipod, and I began following the instructions to get it up and ready.
I connected the iPod like the instructions said, and I was prompted to downlaod iTunes 7. I downladed and installed it, but I can't go any further because I need to restart for the iTunes installation to continue, but my iPod is flashing the "Do not disconnect", so I'm afraid to actually restart my computer, fearing I will mess something up.
Is it safe to restart? What should I do?
    Thanks for any help.
      Windows XP Pro

Use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.
Once it's ejected disconnect the cable from the iPod and restart your computer.

did you edit the catalina.bat file in Tomcat?
It requires that you do so...I don't think by default it will have your JDK that resides on your machine.
I've edited various versions of Tomcat and the catalina.bat, server.xml and web.xml files before, and usually I've just about always had to add a line (SET JAVA_HOME) and then the variable %JAVA_HOME% will read it.

  • Trouble getting started with Creative Cloud

After my trial ended, I started a subscription to Creative Cloud. Various apps show they are updated but where are the downloaded apps? I can't find any of them to launch. The trial was so easy.

Which operating system are you on?
On Windows you should be able to launch the programs from the Start Menu. On Mac OS X you should be able to launch the programs from the Applications folder. The Launch links in the Adobe Application Manager (AAM) are just a convenience links to use after the initial installs. After AAM is restarted those links go away.

  • Trouble when starts my macbook

Im having problems to start my macbook... it freezes when the apple logo appears in the screen when starts to run.. please help

Get out your restore disc, restart the computer while holding the 'C' key, and insert the disc. (If you don't get all that done quickly enough you may have to shut down and restart to get the computer to start off the disc instead of the hard drive.) After you get to the language select screen, up in the menu, find Disk Utility and run it. What you want to find out is whether the Disk Utility program sees the hard drive and, assuming it does, if it can repair it.
If DU doesn't see the drive, you are either contacting Apple for warranty repair or otherwise replacing the hard drive. If DU does see the drive and can repair it (or it needed no repair) then you'll need to reinstall the operating system. I suggest Archive & Install. If DU cannot repair the hard drive you'll need to reformat the drive and then reinstall the OS and all your programs. If you don't have a recent backup you may be able to recover data (or even recover the entire computer) with a program called DiskWarrior.
