when i import music from my computer it gets separated into individual folders instead of one. (mainly now cds) this is very annoying. i am a novice at itunes and need help. i have looked in the itunes support but nothing come up. please help thanks in advance

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

I'm having trouble adding purchased and imported music to my play lists. For example when I purchase or import new music to my playlists I have to re sync my ipod or the new songs don't appear on my playlists. Perhaps this is because I once unplugged my ipod w/out first disconnecting it. Previously when I purchased and imported music songs would appear on my play lists when I dragged them from purchased to playlist.

Remember to authorise your new machine with the Apple ID
Essentially copy the itunes folder and all sub folders over to the same place in the new computer.

ITunes Library: Copy items on import for music only (not video)

I've just bought a new iPod Touch (and I love it). I'd like some advice on managing my iTunes library though.
At the moment I use an external FW drive for my music (there's a lot of it), and I have iTunes manage that itself. It copies files into the folder on this drive automatically, manages the folder hierarchy, and all is good.
Now, however, I have an iPod Touch, and so need to use iTunes to manage my movie library, which is substantial. Currently I have organised my movies into folders spread across 2 500GB external disks. I'm happy with this setup, but to get these movies onto the iPod, I need to import the movies into iTunes.
So here's my problem. I like the way iTunes manages my music library, and would like it to continue to do so. However, when it comes to movies, I want everything to stay the same as it is at the moment, I can't have iTunes take control of the movies because they're spread over two very big disks, and none of my external drives are large enough to fit everything on (movies + music).
What's the best way to have iTunes continue to manage my music, but to just remember links to the movies on the two other external drives? Also, will I have to be careful about using things like the 'consolidate library' feature because that could really screw things up (trying to move things about when I don't want it to).
Any advice would be much appreciated (I'd love iTunes 8 to have more flexibility and control over libraries, especially distinguishing between movies and music).

I am saying that when no files actually copy to the SAN Volume when in "Copy Files" mode despite the setting being correct (destination is the Library's external media folder).
Original files stay on the portable drive, whatever their nature. But if a file is imported this way and needs optimizing, FCPX does create a ProRes file in an "Optimized Media" folder it creates within the Libray's external media folder.
If I eject the portable drive, files that did not need to be optimized go offline.
At no time does FCPX indicate that it is copying. In the background process window it shows rendering of the waveforms and transcoding when optimizing but there is never an indication it actualy copies the files.

I for one appreciate all the hardwork and help you have been giving the people on theses lists, especially with the problems associated with the "importing playlists" from windows media. Unfortunately I need more help if you or someone else can provide it. I followed all the steps you have instructed so far in the threads I have seen. Unfortunately nothing so far works for me. Maybe you or someone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I tried the notepad++ method and when I click on save I always get a notepad file that my iTunes can't do anything with. I click the "convert to UTF-8 without BOM" then click save as and it still saves as a notepad file. I am also unable to find the \n\ file path to replace with my \C:\ filepath. Here is a copy of the first part of one of my playlists:

Importing and burning CONTINUOUS MUSICS CD'S FOR AEROBIC'S

I have tried to import and burn continuous music cd's for aerobics, BUT I-Tunes puts breaks in between the songs even though there are no breaks on the original cd. WHY? Is there some sort of preference or setting I need to change?

Toast will probably offer the same kind of settings as iTunes for this although it may handle it beter. What is happening is the music is likely actually different tracks on your original CD with no gap between. Sometimes even burning with "no gap" may present a slight pause between the tracks.
I think what the suggestion to use Audacity or GarageBand (never used GB myself) will do is make a single track out of all the tracks. This will certainly get rid of the gaps but will also make it problematic if for some reason you should wish to jump to the middle of the music set since instead of have 10 3-minute tracks you will have one 30 minute track and will have to fast forward instead of jumping to a specific track.

How do I get my music back from a computer which has been recently serviced. I am able to log into my itunes account but lost half of my library which was music I imported originally.

I need help. I recently had my cpu serviced by Geek Squad, They completely renamed the CPU and now all of the music I imported is gone. I dont even have my library anymore. I can usually click on itunes and play music from my library. Its all gone. I have authorized this "new" computer for my account but I still dont have my library. Your music will only be where you put it.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup cop of your computer.
Certainly you did not have our computer serviced without making sure your backup copy was up to date.

I have PC with Windows 7 and iPad. My music in iTunes on PC is available under Music on iPad but having trouble moving music to i-Cloud. I suceed in moving the music to iCloud on PC but when I look at iPad music still on device and not in iCloud. Help?

I am a beginner using Apple software, so please bare with me.
I am having trouble moving music from the iPad to iCloud in order to save space in the device.
I realise that in order to store music not purchased on iTunes store can only be stored in iCloud if you subscribe to iTunes Match which I have done.
Appears that moving music from iTunes on my PC to iCloud is successful by deleting song or album in iTunes library and than click on "Keep song" instead of sending to recycle bin. After this has been done the Cloud Icon appears on the album or against the song. However when I then look at Music on the iPad the album or song have not been moved to iCloud. I have tried syncronising with cable connected between PC and iPad. After that has been done the message is that sync was successful bujt still music has not been moved into the Cloud.
Can anybody help? What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to move the music to the cloud working on the iPad only (without trying to use the PC to move the music to the cloud)?

You can only add music to iTunes Match from your iTunes library on your computer, not from your iOS device. If you have music on your iPad that is not on your computer, you'll have to import it to your iTunes library on your computer to add it to iTunes Match.
Music purchased from the iTunes store can be imported directly to your iTunes library by authorizing your computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the music (in Store>Authorize This Computer), then connecting the iPad to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases. Music from other sources will require using 3rd party software to transfer to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

If you have multiple devices backing up to the Cloud, you will see all of them listed. You would click on each device to change what is backed up from that device. You can then delete your individual back-ups.
Once you have all your settings to your liking, you can then go back to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, and click on Back Up Now (bottom of the screen) to create a fresh backup with your new settings.

CS5.5 Import for runtime sharing and preview problem

I'm having a strange issue with CS5.5 and the import for runtime sharing settings. Here's what I'm doing: I create two .fla's, Export.fla and Import.fla. In Export.fla, I create a shape, select it, press F8 and tick export for runtime sharing, to create a really simple exported movie clip. I click the exported symbol in the library, press Ctrl-C, switch to Import.fla and press Ctrl-V. Everything ok so far, the symbol is imported for runtime sharing.
The first problem I have at this stage is that changes I do to the exported symbol in Export.fla are not reflected in Import.fla, only in the final .swf's I can see the changes. Also, unlike in CS4 and CS5 I cannot "Update" the imported symbol in the library right-click menu, to make changes to Export.fla visible in Import.fla. The menu entry is just greyed out...
So I tried to use Authortime sharing, in the Symbol Properties for the imported symbol in Import.fla. I link the source to the symbol in Export.fla, and once I do that, everything is completely borked. The previously imported symbol is no longer imported. Whenever it is changed in Export.fla, it gets an "Export for Runtime Sharing" tick in its Properties in Import.fla, and worst, it is not shared at runtime, like I need it to.
Can anyone tell me how to get the "normal" CS/4/5 behaviour in CS5.5: a runtime shared symbol, that can be updated in Import.fla (I dont care if manually or auotmatically) when I change it in Export.fla, and which also is runtime shared?

Thank you for reporting the issue for runtime sharing settings affected by authortime sharing. It is fixed for parent symbols in Flash Pro CS6, but we just recognized it is not for nested items.
As an alternative to deleting and re-copying the symbol, we see the following steps restore the original settings of the nested bitmap symbol (png in your case) for importing runtime shared library. After you open Bitmap Properties dialog of the bitmap symbol, go to ActionScript section and:
1. Uncheck Export for ActionScript
2. Check Import for runtime sharing
3. Input the path to Library.swf in URL
4. Click OK twice
Please try these steps to see if they work for you. If they do, the simalr steps can be processed via JSFL script. It would be something like this:

I am have trouble getting music I have already purchased in the past to transfer to my phone after I did an update. The music is there and I can see it but it cannot be played when the music is put on shuffle. It just skips right past it? How do you fix?

I can see the music, it is in a lighter font and appears to still be there but will not play. When placed on shuffle it will skip right over this music. I have already paid for this music and have been able to play it at one time but that was before the update. Why can I not listen to this music anymore?

Data import for users of forms created with Livecycle Designer

I have seen several posts regarding data import for forms created by Livecycle Designer but nothing that helps with something I am trying to accomplish. I can create a data connection and import information in a form but what I would like to do is import data, then send the pdf for completion to a user. There are a few data elements that I have available and the rest of the information comes from from the user. The problem I run into is once I create a data connection, the pdf is ALWAYS looking for the source file for that data. I simply want to prepopulate some fields and send to the various users for completion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which type of Data Connection are you trying to create?
XML Schema, Sample Data File or WSDL?
Creating any one of first two types(mentioned above) will only create schema and will never import any data into PDF.
If you create the WSDL connection, you can surely import data (i.e. prepopulate data) into your PDF and forward it for users review/fill.
If I misunderstood your question, please get me clarified.

connect your ipod to your computer. Then on the top left corner you will see a button that say's ipod click on the ipod image. You will now see summary click on music tab and the add check mark to sync music then click apply.

Nested tables causes trouble in RoboHelp FM Import

May be someone here in this forum knows a solution or a workaround for my trouble with a FrameMaker Import in RoboHelp.
Background:
To generate context sensitive Windows HTML-Help a FrameMaker document is imported into RoboHelp.
There are lots of nested tables (a table cell contains an anchored frame with a text frame and inside of this text frame is a table).
Problem:
RoboHelplets all occurrences of these nested tables empty.
It seems that RoboHelp converts anchored frames into JPG and expects certain formats inside these frames only.
There are lots of empty (white) JPG files in the RoboHelp project.
Anchored frames with:
text frames with text inside
text appears
text frames with text and table inside
text appears, table appears NOT
Question:
Is there a workaround in FM to overcome this "absent feature" in RoboHelp.
We use TSC 2 on Windows XP SP3.

It would be a little more productive if you mentioned the rev levels that you're using....
Depending on the content of the second level of cells (Just sub-divided cells? Discrete table titles? Contrasting formatting? Other stuff?), I'd think about faking it by creating a larger parent table and custom ruling/shading the pseudo-nested tables. And I'd definitely go that way if you have a lot of them and RH is a firm part of your workflow.
It may also be worth downloading the free eval of MIF2Go and seeing if that handles the nesting any better.
And finally, one long shot to try... what happens if you nest the tables in Word, then copy them into Frame as RTF (Special Copy)?
But don't hold your breath... the programs are, after all, created by engineers and they may not push the envelope in test cases as far as writers do. ;- ) For instance, I'd wonder if the RH coders are aware that you can nest tables in FM this way? It wouldn't come up too often.
You may also want to visit the Tech Comm Suite Users Group (http://groups.google.com/group/TCS-Users?hl=en) and post there. I don't think there would be a different answer, but...
