    jennifer,
Would you provide more information about your problem so that we can help you?
Did you receive the document as an email attachment?  Is the document currently opened in Apple Mail, Safari, or some other app?
What happens when you try to open a document?  Do you see an error message?
A screenshot would be very helpful.

  • Trouble opening Pages documents

Help! I can't open any of my Pages documents. I get this message: The required index.xml file is missing. I don't use the Cloud. Anyone know what's causing this? I'm not using an I-Pad or anything. I just started having this problem on my Mavericks computer this evening. I understand how to move Pages '08 documents to '09 and then to the current version. This is actually not happening with those documents alone. It's happening even with new documents I create in the current version of Pages. I've wasted hours and hours on two documents I now cannot open!

Thanks for the help and feedback, folks! VikingOSX, your answer was completely over my head, but I tried replacing (pages) with (.docx) and in the process realized what my problem was. I had created a new pages document in Pages 5.2.2 and saved it. Then when I tried to open it later, I had the Pages '09 application already open, and that application couldn't read it. I closed Pages '08, '09, and the newest version, then changed the ending back to (.pages) and double clicked on the document. It automatically opened using 5.2.2.
So, short story is, if I create something in my newest version, I have to make sure all old versions of the application are closed, otherwise they'll try to open my document and give me the message that it needs an xml file.
VikingOSX, thanks for making me walk through a process that eventually led to the answer, even if it wasn't exactly the answer you provided! MUCH APPRECIATED. YOU SAVED ME HOURS OF WORK.

  • Trouble opening Word documents

Has anyone else had the problems with opening a document created in Word? Specifically, when I open an existing Word document, a dialog box pops up stating, "Couldn't contact spell checker". The dialog boxes keep popping up faster then I can close them until I get the colored ball and I am forced to manually quit the program. This is a huge bug and I find myself resorting to using Word and staying away from Pages altogether.

    Hi OldMack,
I found an old thread where people were discussing this problem [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5166006].
I'd try all of the simpler things they suggest, and if nothing else works, an Archive and Install certainly will.
    Hope that helps!

  • I have trouble opening PDF documents with Firefox. They will open using IE8 and with the older version of Firefox but not with the new version of Firefox.

Specifically, I am trying to open brokerage statements with Charles Schwab. I go to the link using Firefox and click and all I get is a blank box with ABOUT: BLANK in the header at the top. Yet, I had no trouble viewing the statements with the older version of Firefox and I also have no problem viewing the document using Internet Explorer. Any help you can offer is appreciated. I would rather continue to use Firefox as my browser and not have to use IE.

  • Trouble Opening GarageBand Documents

I recently recorded some voice over type of tracks in GarageBand. I was trying to open them up again to edit them and I keep getting a message saying:
"The document could not be opened. The file is not in the right format. The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in a different format than you expect"
I'm not really understanding why it would say this because I haven't touched these since I last saved them in Garageband a couple of days ago. They have the normal Garageband extension as ".band". Is there anything I can do to open these again into Garageband?

If the project file is corrupted you may be out of luck opening it
This is very unlucky if this is the case.
But, all is not lost. Right click on the .band file in the Finder and choose 'Show Package Contents'. The contents of the .band file (which is really a folder) will be displayed and you can copy or move the audio files to a new folder/desktop and import them into a new GB Project. The 'Arrange Screenshot' file may help you to see some of the settings you had and where the regions were in the previous project.

Everytime i try and open a PDF document i get the following message - even though i know it is a genuine product
"it is not a supported file or because the file has been damaged, or sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded"

  • Trouble opening Apps,Documents etc ,,

The only way I can open up any items to right click on then with the mouse. The problem is pretty much system wide. Any suggestions on what I can do to correct the problem will be greatly appreciated.

    Run this:
    http://mac.wareseeker.com/download/rebuild-launchservices-database-1.0.rar/33346 0
You might first try to trash com.apple.launchservices.plist, first, and restarting. Find it in user preferences folder.
If these fail, trash com.apple.finder.plist (same preferences folder). Restart.

  • Problem opening Office documents from the desktop

    Hi all,
I'm a new Mac user who just installed the Student/Teacher edition of Office for Mac 2004 (yes, i removed the trial version first), and I'm having trouble opening my documents when I double click the icons on the desktop. I get an error message that says "Unexpected error occured (error code -10660)". I can only open the docs if I open the appropriate program first.
Is this normal for a Mac? My PowerBook is only 1 month old, and I don't want my unfamiliarity w/Macs to cloud a serious problem if there is one.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    RH

    I learned something new:
I hit Control+Click and selected Open With and clicked Word, and I got a new error message telling me that I couldn't use that application b/c it was in the trash. The only thing in my Trash is my Test Drive version, which just expired. When I dragged the Test Drive folder to my desktop, I was able to double click any Office doc and open it directly.
I've clearly made a mistake in uninstalling the Test Drive version. How can I fix this, and do I need to remove (and re-install) my complete version of Office to do so?
    Thanks,
    Reema

    Help please?
