Trouble opening an iTextSharp rendered PDF

Here is a strange problem.  I used iTextSharp PDFStamper to generate a PDF with FormFields.  Everything works great.
Some users have complained that Acrobat Reader is taking a long time to open a PDF.  I have confirmed this, the same document that takes me 1 second to open takes them 20 - 30 seconds.  What could be the cause of this?  I don't think it is any of their machine processes though, they can open other PDFs fine and I NEVER have this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've read things on the boards that take both sides. I'm just looking for a solution. PageMaker was so much easier to use than InDesign in many ways... but I need to use InDesign CS4 for compatibility issues with other people.
There's a lot of discussion about not being able to make PDFs at all in Snow Leopard on http://indesignsecrets.com/acrobats-adobe-pdf-printer-replaced-in-snow-leopard.php - incuding some suggestions I will try. And yes, I read the whole series of comments... you suggested this discussion.
Fortunately, I haven't had the trouble many of those folks had creating a simple a PDF. But when I go through the Print Booklet menu in InDesign CS4 I get a booklet.indd.pdf file that won't open. I can print an impositioned booklet directly to my printer, but I need to send it as a file to someone else, and that's where my trouble lies.
So I need to struggle find out how to make this work. Jinny Coyle's solution appears to be the best. I guess it's time for me  to learn Distiller.
I just expect things to work even when they're upgraded, and for Adobe and Apple to work together. I don't care whose particular fault it is - this  affects a lot more people than just me.
Thanks again for that link.

  • Trouble opening downloaded .doc and pdf files

I have suddenly been unable to open .doc word files or pdfs through Safari.  I download them and they move to the downloading arrow area, but when I click on them, word documents show this dialogue box:
    Safari can’t open the file.
Safari can’t open the file “GERMAN_QUIZ-2.doc” because no available application can open it.
PDFs open but the text is corrupted - pictures show ok but where text is, it just appears as a graduated solid black blurry line.
I haven't changed any settings or downloaded anything odd, as far as I am aware.
    Any ideas?

Thanks - I also removed an Adobe file and I can now open them.
I used this method to open the pdf's and if I choose Open With Adobe then it opens.  If I open with Preview then it's corrupted as below.   Photos come out but text looks like this.
Why has preview suddenly stopped opening these pdfs.  (It used to work).
    Thanks for your help

  • Trouble opening LiveCycle DRM-encrypted PDFs in Adobe Acrobat v.10.0.2

LiveCycle DRM-encrypted PDFs open fine in Adobe Acrobat v. 9, v. 10.1.7, and v. 11. Why don't they open in v. 10.0.2? Is this a known problem? My company is UNABLE to upgrade or downgrade to another version of Adobe at this time, but we need to be able to open these PDFs with version 10.0.2. What is the solution? I get the following message when attempting to open these PDFs:

    pharmalib wrote:
And, if there is a bug, is there any solution other than to upgrade to the next version?
Usually bugs are fixed in updated software versions; what kind of other solution do you expect?
Actually, looking at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/ I see that 10.0.2 has been removed completely, so this appears to have been an especially buggy version.

Trouble opening pdf's - I have received several pdf's from a friend via e-mail (Thunderbird). Some of them open just fine but others give me the message: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." My friend made sure that the files in question opened without issue on his computer (a PC). Further, I was able to open one of these "damaged" files on my Android phone, but I cannot open them on the Macbook Air. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Trouble opening pdf files on version 9.4...

Hi, I recently updated (10/7/10) my Adobe from 9.34 to 9.4 and now I'm having trouble opening my files that were working fine with 9.34.. I read the other post but the problem still seems to occur for my mac..the error message I am getting is..
Adobe Reader could not open 'maher39767_0324639767_02.11_chapter11.spdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
I reinstalled Adobe and I'm still getting the problem...
    Please help.

Does this happen with any pdf or this particular pdf ? If it happens with this pdf only then may be the pdf is not properly downloaded or may be damaged.

Having trouble opening a pdf with Adobe...keep seeing an error sign "acroExch"  does anyone have a way to fix this?

Hmm, "Use Adobe Reader" should launch the PDF outside of Firefox in the stand-alone Adobe Reader application, so seeing it in a tab is something of a puzzle.
Could you check your version of Adobe Reader? For Windows 7, you normally would have the Reader XI series (Reader 11), which has had several updates. From inside Adobe Reader, you can use Help > Check for Updates to make sure it's current.
In Firefox, could you check your Adobe Acrobat plugin version or possibly versions? You can view that on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. If you find multiple versions, this can cause problems and may need to be cleaned up manually (post back on that for suggestions).
Sometimes, the settings file which stores those download handler preferences becomes corrupted and there's not much else to do than to rename or remove that file and let Firefox rebuild it.
To do that, open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a new window (Windows Explorer window) listing various settings files.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Start Firefox back up again and "PDF Files" should be back to their default setting of "Preview in Firefox". Try changing that to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" and test to see whether there's any improvement.

    Hi,
Do you have Adobe Reader installed on your device? You can check it under Settings-->Apps. If Adobe Reader is installed on your device and still the pdfs open in some other app, then you might have chosen that app to be the default app for always opening pdfs. You can clear the defaults for that application. Just go to Settings-->App--->Polaris(or any other app where the files open)--->Clear Defaults. Next time you try to open a pdf, you will be presented with the options again. Hope this helps. Please let us know if you still face some issues.
    Thanks.

  • Anyone else having trouble opening CMYK PDFs from Photoshop CC with JPEG 'high' compression?

(Cross-post from the Photoshop forum, where I was asked to post in the Acrobat forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5553829 )
When I save a PDF file in Photoshop CC in CMYK color with JPEG compression (quality = high), it will save without any errors. However, when I open the file in Acrobat (11.0.3), I get an "Out of Memory" pop up error. I press Ok, and the document is just displayed as a blank white image.
I'm using Win7 64-bit, Photoshop CC 64-bit. Plenty of memory (24GB) and allocated RAM in preferences, and I've done some troubleshooting that leads me to believe the error is not due to system memory, but rather a specific bug in the software. I have Photoshop CS6 on the same machine, and if I open the PSD, save as PDF with the above settings, everything is fine when I open it using Acrobat. This seems to just be for Photoshop CC, not CS6.
Here is the troubleshooting I've done so far:
PDF format, RGB color, any other settings --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, no compression --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [medium] --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [high] --> Acrobat can NOT open the file because it encounters the "out of memory" error.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [maximum] --> Acrobat can open the file.
This is silly. I don't get it. Can anyone else confirm this problem for me?
    Updated:
Like you said, there isn't enough information to rule out an issue with Photoshop CC, as the same action using Photoshop CS6 results in a usable file.
New information (while making files for uploading):
The error only occurs with CMYK files of larger dimensions. On a 500x500px image, Acrobat throws out "A drawing error has occured". a 2500x2500px image runs into the "Out of memory" error. In either case, Acrobat cannot successfully open the file generated by Photoshop CC, while it can if it was made using Photoshop CS6.

The major changes for the others within the JPegs was the number of pixels (133X133) and the size (1.4inX1.4in). There is also a reduction in the number of colors.
Just for information, I opened the big JPeg in Acrobat (9.5.5) and it opened fine. However, it looks like the color space was changed as shown below:
Even if I change the input to use CMYK and not RGB, it looks like it gets converted to RGB. I haven't spent time to figure out the preflight analysis properly, but at least this may give you some info back.

  • Trouble opening files via links on PDF

    Hello,
I am working with a pdf that is a one page table of contents for a law treatise.  Each table of contents has multiple bookmarks/tabs within the page.  Clicking a tab title is supposed to open a more in-depth document (also in pdf form).  However, when I click on the tabs I get the following message:  "Could not open the file '19_1.pdf'" (where 19_1 is the file name and relates to the chapter and tab).
The pdf originally comes from a treatise website, and I feel like the Adobe is looking for the file locally on my Macbook and not attempting to look on the internet for the file.  I have received the more in-depth pdf from a friend and saved it on my desktop.  When I click on the corresponding tab in the table of contents the table of contents link works correctly. There are many more table of contents and pdfs I need to read over the course of the semester (it is basically our textbook).
Does anyone know what might be the problem?  I can clarify anything that does not make sense.
    Thank you.
    SMH

I can navigate to the files using finder, I can even open the files in other applications (non-Adobe) so everything appears to work properly except for opening the files using the Adobe Photoshop CC. I had also read about the problem with SMB vs. SMB2 and even Mac's new SMBx but this issues doesn't feel as though it will be resolved by changing the file transfer protocol considering the transfer is working properly for non Adobe applications.
