Trouble opening e-mail video attachments

As with most Macs, my MacBook Pro came with trial versions of Windows and iWorks. I decided to go with Windows. The trial period has long been over, and clearly my computer is set to some sort of default because when I attempt to open an attachment (such as a video, etc.) in mail it attempts to open iWorks, notifies me it has expired, and encourages me to subscribe. How can I change this default to allow these attachments to open in Windows-friendly applications, or do I simply have to buy iWorks? I've talked to several other Mac users--who have chosen either Windows or iWorks--and none of them have had this problem.
Thank you.

Open your e-mail account on your Mac and double click on your attachment. If you have set your touch to delete mail on the server (not really a good idea if you use the same account) change that setting.
If you have changed the server setting or use a separate account, just e-mail yourself the attachment.

  • I have always been able to open e-mail photo attachments even after trnsferring them to the desktop or a thumbdrive, but after moving the last two

I have always been able to open e-mail photo attachments even after transferring them to the desktop or a thumbdrive, but after moving the last two to the desktop and trying to open them I get the message that ColorSync is unable to open files of this type. I believe they are jpegs.

When I attach a PDF to Apple Mail on Mountain Lion, it is an icon. When I send it to an iCloud mail destination, the attachment arrives and is presented as an icon, whether on OS X, or in IOS 6.
I suspect that the recipient's mail user agent is responsible for the full image .vs. icon behavior, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

  • Trouble opening e-mails over 300KB

I recently upgraded my mac mini to Tiger, and since then my mail is not opening e-mails with attachments larger than about 300kb.
When I click on the e-mail to view it the top portion of the e-mail downloads (from, date, if there are attachments, and how large, etc.). Then right away the pinwheel shows up as if it is downloading the attachments and the body text. However, nothing ever comes of this and I end up having to force quit mail. And when I open it back up I have to quickly delete the e-mail or the same thing will happen again...basically freezeing up my mail.
Before I upgraded to tiger I did not have this problem. Large attachments downloaded fine.
    Any suggestions?

I don’t understand. The message has already been downloaded in its entirety by the time you view it...

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Trouble opening Yahoo Mail with Safari

Recently began having trouble opening Yahoo Mail with Safari.  I am continually asked to upgrade my Safari to a newer edition; however, when I do a software upgrade check it tells me I have the latest edition.  Anyone else having this trouble?

Your OS is way out of date and thus your version of Safari and Firefox are too. It would be wise to update Tiger using the combo update found here:http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_4_11_Combo_Update__PPC
Then you can further update Safari to it's current version using Softwareupdate from the Apple menu.
You can also use Firefox Help menu to update to it's current version.
To be safe run Disk Utility's repair disk function from your original install disk and repair permissions before and after the update from your boot disk.

  • Trouble openning e-mail attachments taken and sent by cell phone cameras

I am able to preview Pdf attachments sent to me by e-mail that was taken with cameras but is unable to open those documents; can anyone help with that?

    Hi fyzabad,
Please let me know what version of Adobe Reader are you using.
Could you clarify what you mean by saying sent by 'cell phone cameras'?
You might have received an email with PDF files attached to it.
Please save them first and then try to open with Reader.
Let me know then what happens.

  • Mail crashes upon opening of mails with attachments

This happens all the time since i bought it two weeks ago. everytime i try opening one with an attachment, mail would just hang and crash. does anybody face this problem too? How do i solve this?

that's it - I ran the updater - and I believe I have been able to use it all day without the program crashing when it encounters an attachment.
one goofy thing I noticed, for the first time, there appear to be two applications folders on my start-up drive (1) in my user folder (2) in the "main" hard drive folder.
MAIL is in both - I believe the "main" one was updated; when I turned on the "user" MAIL it crashed when I opened an eMail with an attachment; when I opened the same eMail with the "main" mail there was no problem.
now what does this tell us?
    thanks again!

  • Every time I open Firefox , a recently opened e-mail video (audio only) plays in the background of my new web site .I`ve tried to restore the desk top back to an earlier date with no luck. Please advise.. Ken

I`m getting the same background audio when I open Firefox every time.

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.
    See "Corrupt extension files": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
If you see disabled extensions that are not compatible on the next start in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button to do a compatibility check.

  • Why can't I open e-mails in Firefox 7.01 or 8.0?

After the update to 7.01 I can't open e-mails(not attachments) sent to my hotmail account. I then tried to update to the 8.0 beta version, but it made no difference.

  • Unable to open video attachments in mail

I can't open video attachments in my e-mail.

What is the file type for the video attachments?
    Copied from this link.
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.
If the video attachments are Windows Media Video files (WMV files that include a .wmv file extension), WMV is a closed/proprietary Microsoft video format. Microsoft stopped providing and supporting a Windows Media Player version for the Mac and OS X many years ago. There is a 3rd party player that provides for this on a Mac and there is a 3rd party app that provides for this on the iPhone.

  • PC user has trouble opening my photo attachments

The person on the receiving end has trouble opening and saving my jpeg (72 dpi). They appear in the body of both e-mail, hers and mine. She told me to send it as an attach and I said that's what I did. She is a graphic web designer and I can't imagine why she can't save them easily by right clicking.
    What gives?

You didn't answer every question, namely this one.
+If you are using RTF for message composition, are you adding attachments below all message text including a signature if one is used?+
RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML but certain things must occur for HTML to be implemented with the message body.
Selecting a font or different font size and/or color via the Font panel when composing a message, changing the some of the message format - adding bold. italics or underlining selected text, using a Signature that was composed with HTML or RTF or that includes a graphic insert.
Windows Outlook has always had various problems with Mail's RTF and the extent of the problem depends on the Windows version and/or Outlook version used by the recipient.
For some reason when using RTF for message composition, Outlook has problems when adding attachments anywhere in the message body besides below ALL message text including a signature if one is used.
If Plain Text was supported with the exchange of email only, most if not all problems experienced with the exchange of email and message attachments would be eliminated so using Plain Text instead of RTF should resolve it with this particular problem being with Outlook recipients only. For such an old and mature email client, Outlook still has its share of bugs.

  • Trouble opening pdf's - I have received several pdf's from a friend via e-mail (Thunderbird). Some of them open just fine but others give me the message: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

Trouble opening pdf's - I have received several pdf's from a friend via e-mail (Thunderbird). Some of them open just fine but others give me the message: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." My friend made sure that the files in question opened without issue on his computer (a PC). Further, I was able to open one of these "damaged" files on my Android phone, but I cannot open them on the Macbook Air. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
