Trouble opening idml indesign doc with cs4

I have a indesign file that was exported in CS5 to ihml. I have ran all my current updates in my CS4 in hopes that I can open this file. I am not able to open the file...am I doing something wrong or is the file some how not able to work in my CS4 indesign?? Please help!!!
I am going nuts trying to figure this out with not luck at all!!! Thank you so much!!

Received the zipped file Uncompressed, there's less than 1KB, 880 bytes actually.
There's not much hope for it to be a valid file I'm afaid. Have the original sender check on their end if those file sizes match what you have locally.

  • Trouble opening files from LR3 to CS4, desaturation occurring.

I upgraded from LR2 to 3 a while ago, and recently, I've had an odd problem opening my lightly edited files into CS4.  I just do command E on my mac, and they open right into CS4.  When the image(s) open, they almost seem completely desaturated?  I shoot a nikon D700, raw, copy the NEF files into LR3 upon import, do light edits in LR (white balance, recovery, tone curve, some adjustment brush...) and then will open selected files into CS4 for futher tweaking.  Any idea why these images are doing this?  If I go back into lightroom and "reset all settings" and then open, the images open fine.  Help, i'm about to pull my hair out!!!
Here is a screen shot showing the image in LR (left) and then how it opens in CS4.
Thank you in advance for your help!  I'm currently running version 3.6 of lightroom and 11.0.2 of CS4

    Nope I am in sRGB.....
It has been very confusing because I can get an image to open normally in CS4 by resetting ALL the settings.... i wrote down the settings, re-set, made sure it opened with the correct color rendition/not desaturated (for lack of a better term.....), and then went through and "re-created" the image step by step, starting with white balance and on down, and opening it in CS4 every step, to see what was making the color render that way in CS4.  I think I have narrowed it down to the Nikon V4 camera profiles... because if I set my camera profile to "d2x mode1 v2" it opens normally (with all of my other lightroom edits made...) but if i simply switch to "d2x mode 1 v4" it will desaturate upon opening in cs4.
I've also had troubles like this from time to time in the past, and thought it had something to do with the adjustment brush.
Has anyone encountered this problem before??  Is it a compatibility issue with CS4 being an older version of photoshop?

  • Performance issue when opening DOCX Word Doc with Excel Links

Is this a bug or is there a config setting that can prevent Word from needlessly opening Excel repeatedly (upon initial open of a DOCX Word doc) when pre-existing links should NOT be updated. The behavior is good using 2003 formats (DOC & XLS),
but varies significantly (~100:1 range in performance) depending on the test scenario (see below) using DOCX with XLSX.
We can't move our environment to the new XML formats until we can find a fix. We were led to believe Microsoft knew this to be a bug in Office 2007, but it has NOT been corrected in Office 2010. Omitting a detailed explanation for why we need to
do this, here's our test scenarios:
-Currently testing Office 2010 Pro Trial version on WIN XP SP3. (We have found similar results using Office 2007 with Win7 or XP).
-Word Option Deselected/DISABLED: "Update Automatic Links at Open"
-The Word Doc contains 100 linked Excel tables and is 130K in size (DOCX).
-Each link points to the same 10x10 cell range in one Excel Workbook located in same directory as the Word Doc, although other tests using separate directories produced similar results.
-The Excel Links were inserted into Word via Paste Special/Paste Link/MS Excel Worksheet Object.
-The workbook (XLSX) is 15K in size.
-All Links are set for "Manual" update, our testing showed no difference if links are set to "Auto".
-Again, Word is set to NOT update Automatic links when the document is opened.
-Results shown below are for local hard drive test.
-Network response times are slightly greater on 100mb LAN
-Word is completely restarted prior to each test to make sure there's no application caching involved.
LOCAL DRIVE RESPONSE TIMES TO OPEN THE WORD DOC in Docx format:
    1. Open the Word Doc from Word with Excel closed - 175 seconds (Excel appears to be opened and closed once per link)
    2. Open the Word Doc from Word with Excel open & workbook closed - 33 seconds (Excel appears to be accessed once per link)
    3. Open the Word Doc from Word with the linked workbook already open - 7 seconds (Excel appears to be accessed once per link)
    4. Rename Excel XLSX workbook so that Word can't find it. Then open Doc the from Word. 1-2 seconds (Excel does not appear to be invoked)
    5. Repeat ALL of the above scenarios 1-4 using DOC and XLS files. These files are created with "Save AS" option based on original test files and then re-pasting the links.  1-2 seconds to open the Word Doc (Excel does not appear to be invoked)
    Summary
Using DOCX/XLSX, if Word can't find the linked spreadsheet it gives up and performs nicely during file-open. Otherwise, Word performs needless, time-consuming access to Excel, and in the worst case, opens and closes Excel repeatedly in the background.
Testing with DOC/XLS formats gives good performance across all scenarios.

It is a known bug and one for which AFAIK, there has been no fix.  The only way that I could get around it in a particular application was to do something like save the linked information as document variables and then on opening the document recreate
all the information.  My memory on exactly what I did is a bit hazy, but I can go back and check if you are interested.

  • Can't open old indesign docs

    Hi
I installed 2014 release and now can only open old indesign files in the old version not the new one.  What do I need to do to be able to open them in the new version?
    Thanks in advance

The tef file is an iCloud file.
Maybe turn it off for a while and do something else before restarting it to give it time to reset.

  • Can't open flash/fla files (with CS4) - might be version issue

    Hi,
I am trying to edit a website for a friend (built with Flash and XML) and i can't seem to get into any of the .Fla files.
I don't know if it is my version of Flash (CS4) or the files and not sure how i could test it. Could also just be a CS5 file hence i can't open it.
Any help or suggestions would be great. Please help i don't know what to do, haha.
Here is an upload of one of the files i am talking about
    http://www.2shared.com/file/kb2NKm0i/book-verification.html
I wasn't sure which hosts were allowed so if i messed up please let me know.
    Thanks
    Asher

    Hi Asher,
You  cannot open a file which is saved in future version such as CS5  version  in Flash CS4 .This is as designed .
If you need to open a CS5 file in CS4 , You need to save the file as CS4 file  and then open in Flash CS4 .
    Thanks

  • Help trying to create a 2 page indesign doc with 1 landscape & 1 portrait page?

I'm creating a double sided A5 flyer, how do I create a 2 page indesign document with one page portrait & the other landscape?
Thank you in advance for anyone who can help with this ;-)

You can use the Page tool to change one, but if it's going to print I think it would be better to make them both either ladscape or portrait, then use Rotate Spread View in the Pages panel to make one appear inthe other orientation on screen while work.

  • How to Open an Indesign file with a missing plugin

Is there a way to open a file that has a missing plugin?
    This is the case:
We used an outside designer who is on CS5 indesign and teacup barcode software plugin cs5
We received his files saved back to CS4, but it is still telling us there is a missing plugin.
I'm assuming it is Teacup software. Is there a way around this??

You should try to be as accurate as possible when describing your situation. For example, you say the file was “saved back to CS4”. That is impossible. There is no way to save an InDesign CS4 file from any program except InDesign CS4. Do you mean that the designer exported an .idml file from InDesign CS5? If so, then say so. If you have been given an InDesign .indd file saved from InDesign CS5, then you have an InDesign CS5 file, not an InDesign CS4 file.

  • After opening an excel doc with actve X, crashes when calling excel again

i created an application that allows the user to read in an excel
spreadsheet, chop it up, then stuff it into a database. it also can generate
2 reports as excel spreadsheets . when i run the reports alone it works fine
but when i chop up the spreadsheet it tnds to screw up excel. it does not
cause any faults but it does cause excel to open like this: all you see is
the frame of excel you don't see the contents of the doument, in fact you
see right through the window to the background.
in the spreadsheet chop i use all active X calls to open the document in the
background, read it then close the document..
for the reports i create the documents by writing the file with "write to
    speadsheet file"
then opening the doc within excel.
    any ideas?

    Shawn,
My only idea is to make sure that all ActiveX references are closed to Excel (every ActiveX wire should end in a Automation Close function). Other than that, it may be an issue with the ActiveX object for Excel. Contacting Microsoft may be a possibility.

  • Opening a PSD file with CS4

I just download the Adobe Photoshop CS4 and ran the installing, yet I can't open any of my old photoshop docs.  Is there anywhere I can't download the photoshop 6.0 ??

Does this mean you can't open photo files, or just not .psd?
Make sure you update to version 11.0.1

  • Trouble opening library PDF book with Adobe Touch - help???

In trying to open a library book (PDF format) on my new Windows8 Tablet, using Adobe Touch, I get a message saying, 'There are features in this file that are not supported by this program.' It doesn't allow me to open it anyway. It seems there must be a way to do this  Does anyone know what it is?

Library eBooks are not regular PDF files.  They are protected by the Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.
Unfortunately, Adobe Reader Touch (or Reader for iOS/Android) does not support DRM-protected PDF files.
You may want to try OverDrive Media Console for Windows.  According to the tech spec, the application is compatible with Windows 8 and RT.

  • Opening Microsoft XPS docs with a Mac

Does anyone know how to open Microsoft XPS format documents? I gather they are an alternative to PDF's (do we need one?). When I run Internet Explorer on Windows XP via Parallels, it 'prints' or saves docs as .xps files. But I can't open them within Mac OSX to view or print them.

    Hi,
the remark about support in OpenOffice and NeoOffice is not correct.
NeoOffice 2.2.4 Patch 5 doesn't open XPS files, it's also not on the feature list for NeoOffice 2.2.5.
Open Office doesn't support it either.

  • Outdated keynote? What to open power point docs with?

This is my second Mac and it didn't come with Keynote like my old mac did but I had some of my stuff transferred to my new computer from my old one. My old Keynote doesn't work with Snow Leopard and this computer. Do we have any program in this computer that can open power point documents?? When I get a email with a power point attachment I can't even open it anymore.
I have a year of One on One I got with this computer so I can learn more about this mac than I did my last one but I'm about an hour away from the closest mac store to set up any of these appointments. I am trying to watch some of the videos that I have access to with my One on One but nothing I have found so far addresses this question I have.
    Thanks for any help.
    Lora

I think he was referring to the part where you said you thought the $ you paid for your Mac entitled you to an app to read powerpoint files.
You can ask Apple for that here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html <
I know what he meant. But I think I have a legitimate complaint. Nothing more frustrating than to get a document that I can't open. Instead of garage band or Chess, maybe an app a little more useful. So your feedback link is very much appreciated!

  • Can I open 09 pages docs with the new Pages?

I'm noticing that documents created with Pages 9 cannot be opened on the latest Pages since the Mavericks updates. Is this happening to others? Isn't it general protocol that older versions can be opened on newer version of programs?

    Julia,
I'm guessing that after opening a document with the new Pages 3.0, you may have inadvertently tried to open that document in the old version. To go back to the old verison requires that you export the document to the old format.
