Trouble opening jpeg and pdf files.
I have a fully current version of Photoshop (ICloud). When attempting to open some jpeg files and pdf files, they remain ghosted and will not open. I think it may have to do with the settings in the 'open' window but i don't know what to do. ?????

Trouble adding epub and pdf files to Kobo Glo
Hi there,
I've recently downloaded some epub and pdf ebooks that I want to add to my kobo glo. I'm using a macbook pro computer with OS 10.7. I've searched online forums that tell me that I can just drag and drop pdf and epub files on to the KOBOereader that pops up in my devices. I have done this and ejected the kobo but when I power it up these ebooks are apparently no where on the device. I then followed the instructions on how to add ebooks using ADE 2.0. I authorized my computer to read adobe DRM files under the same email that I set up my kobo with. I plugged in my kobo glo and clicked on connect and the device is recognized in ADE. I authorized the device and drag-and-dropped the files on to the ereader. They apparently transferred over fine and when I open the device in my finder window I see the digital editions folder that contains the files. I eject the device and power up but the files stll do not appear in my library on the ereader. The only files that appear are the ones that I have bought from the Kobo desktop store and loaded on to it through the Kobo desktop app. I also want to note that I do not see the ebooks that I have purchased from kobo on the device when I click on it in ADE. Any help as to fixing my problem is greatly appreciated.Hey i know what you are talking about the same thing happened with me and eventually i went and changed my kobo but when i tried to download books they never showed up, also when i download books I only used a specific site so i downloaded new books from a different site and sent them to my kobo and they went through. So there might not actually be a problem with your kobo but the site from where you get your books from. Try switching sites from where you usually download books and try a new site it might work as it worked for me.

When I try to open an .ai/pdf file received through my email, it won't open and asks for a password. I have never set up any kind of password for email security, but have tried typing in my standard passwords. Nothing works. I wonder if it has anything to do with the use of my Wacom3 Tablet...I've been having trouble with it and was getting the same message when trying to open the User's Manual in my Applications/WacomTablet file on my hard drive. Any suggestions? I just downloaded the latest version for the Wacom and recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (which I hate, and my CS3 hates, etc.)
It sounds like you have a a password-protected PDF. The password was set by the person who encoded it.

I have Windows 98 and need Acrobat to open up the pdf files for 5.0
I have the old system, Windows 98 and presently have the free Adobe 5.0 version on my Compaq Presario Computer, and it is a 5242 model desktop.
I have inadvertanly switched over to Compaq Carbon Copy 32 Version 5.0 but since, have uninstalled it and now, on each of what was the pdf files initially of which I have, of which is at least 16 or more, on each of those files, an error message comes up and says "PROGRAM NOT FOUND," and states the following: "Windows cannot find CCW32EXE. This program is needed for opening the pdf files." And then it has a dialogue box with the computer operational symbol in it as C:\ and then it wants me to locate it. I cannot locate it through the "auto" because, this sytem being so old, doesn't have a magnifying glass or a "search" tool to do this in the "My Computer Icon on the Desktop as the Compaq people wanted me to do. I would have to do this manually. I have already talked to the Compaq people on their chat line and because of this, they said they couldn't help me with this problem and referred me over to you.
I've tried to find a download for 5.0, though I really don't think I need one since it is currently installed. I believe the proper way to fix this is to just convert the CCW32EXE over to the Acrobat pdf files and have those files opened and should open up all of my 15 or so files altogether at the same time because they all converted over to something else at the same time prior.

But I believe to alleviate this problem, if you could just give me the information to be able to open up the pdf files to 5.0 and find out what download I may pursue, it might be able to correct this problem. I already have the 5.0 Acrobat installed, however.Hi Aandi,
I have followed your directions and I have the old system of Windows 98, so I had to go to "programs" and come up to Acrobat 5.0 and once in there, all of the Window there is greyed out, although I can still go to the tool bars above in it. I went to "file" and went to "open" and from there, I received an "open" window with a dialogue box in it and in that dialogue box as I scrolled down, it wants me to put in there, one of the following, "desktop," "my documents," "3 1/2 floppy [A:]," "[C:]," "system _save [D:]," ""[E:," "[F:]," ete; of these which do I pick in the "open" dialogue box? and down at the bottom, is the FILE NAME and what do I put in there? Just below that, it has the FILES OF TYPE which has there Adobe pdf Files, in it's dialogue box. I hit these, but I still get an error message of which basically says, "NOT FOUND, please put in proper file name given." And I don't know actually where it is given.

I really need to open up the Adobe 5.0 pdf files. All of the pdf files, simultaneously went over to Compaq Carbon Copy 32 of which I since, uninstalled. But I really need to get back and open the Adobe 5.0 pdf files.

I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet using either Safari or Firefox. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. Can anyone help?

When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -

This never appeared before when downloading pdf files and I am worried that my computer is being hacked into or I acquired a virus. Is this normal or do I have to uninstall this update?

Has anyone run into the problem of downloading or opening an E.pdf file? I am running on 10.6.8 and am unable to open the file. Any suggestions?
That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account. -

Since upgrading my Mac OS X from 10.6.8 to firstly, 10.8 and then, 10.9, I have not been able to open new pdf files on either Preview or Acrobat Reader.
I can still open previously downloaded pdf files but not new ones.
I can still open new pdf files online. However, when I save a pdf to my computer, I cannot open them anymore.
I upgraded to 10.8 a couple of weeks ago and then accepted a free upgrade to Maverick (10.9) this morning. I was hoping that by upgrading to Maverick, I would be able to open pdf files again but alas, that is not the case.
I really need to open pdf files as a matter of urgency as I do this on a daily basis. I am not a computer whizz so if anyone can help find a simple yet effective solution to my problem, that would be much appreciated.

Yet, when I try to open pdf files downloaded whilst still using Mac OS X 10.6.8, they open as normal. So what is the problem, please?
I have deleted Adobe Reader and re-installed it. Yet, it follows the same pattern as above. The same is true of Preview. It's really frustrating because it means I can only open new pdf files using Safari (so I have to be online to do this). I need to be able to open pdf files when I'm offline as well.

Three things to try (Reader XI)...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

How to open-up a pdf file to a particular page via java? (file and page number from another program)
I have created an Access 2003 Form. Data is entered. The data can be viewed once entered in the same form format, with one addition. The addition is a link to another program where we store files. The files stored are pdf documents. Each document is a scanned file (500+ pages). The link can open-up the pdf file. I want the link to open-up the pdf file to a particular page. I will supply the page number from the database.
I am aware of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 PDF Open Parameters using a URL that specifies the file to be opened plus actions to be performed once the file is openend (i.e. http://example.org/doc.pdf#page=3). However, the 3rd party program transfers a file from a server to the client via java. The file does not go via a web browser. The java code transfer the file directly from the file server to the the client.
Any idea how to accomplish the task of viewing a particular page with the process flow described?
I am using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.So you are reading this file in a standalone version of Acrobat? If so then use the PDF Open Parameters /a option via the command line.

Jpeg and PDF clipping paths not showing up in Keynote
I am using Keynote '08 and my boss is using an earlier version. He wants to place a jpeg or pdf in his file and see the clipping path. He has pdfs on his machine that open in his keynote document with the clipping path intact, you don't see the white background of the image. When he places the jpegs and pdfs I have sent him, with clipping paths I created, in the same keynote document, mine show up with the white backgrounds.
Help!The previous designer here saved jpegs and pdfs with clipping paths that apparantly he can open. I give him a jpeg with a clipping path (created by someone else) as well as save it as a PDF with clipping path and he cannot see the clipping path. He specifically wants to use jpegs or pdfs because that is what he has been using and that is what has been working for him until I sent him jpegs and pdfs that aren't working. So far it is just this one photo as a jpeg and saved as a pdf. I cannot find any difference between these two and the ones he is able to see clipping paths on.
