Trouble opening older FCP version

i have a project in FCP 3 in OS 9. i can't open it in FCP 5 in OS 10.4.7. is there anything i can do to open this project in OS X?

If it doesn't open in FCP3, it sounds like the file is corrupted, but maybe it has something to do with the forked file system under OS 9?
If you wanna stuffit the file under OS 9 and email it to me, I've had some luck in the past - no guarantees, but I'll give it a whirl.

Adobe Reader for Windows Phone cannot open older PDF versions?

I've found that Adobe Reader for Windows Phone displays the following error when I try to open certain PDF documents: "There was an error opening the document".
After doing some limited testing I found that it can successfully open PDF documents which were saved as "PDF version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)", but the error appears when it tries to open documents saved as the older format "PDF version: 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x)". (I am checking the filetype version by opening the documents in Adobe Reader X on my PC and looking at the document properties).
My phone is a HTC 7 Mozart running Windows Phone 7.5. I noticed the problem when I was using the SkyDrive app to try and look at some PDF files I have saved in SkyDrive. SkyDrive downloads the file and then passes it to the Adobe Reader app to view. It works when I look at a newer version 1.5 PDF but not the older v1.3 type. Unfortunately my HP Photosmart 5510 scanner outputs scans as PDF files and only in the older file version.
I've tried reinstalling the SkyDrive app and the Adobe Reader app on my phone. (The Adobe Reader app is version 10.1.1, build 20120919).
Is this a known limitation, or is this a bug?
If this is a limitation that won't be fixed - is there an easy way I can convert my files to the newer file type? (Adobe Reader X on my PC doesn't seem to offer a way to convert existing files)

Unable to open older FCP projects

I clicked on a project that I had worked on in '03 on FCP 3 or 4 and FCP 5 told me that I was unable to open it...without and explanation...any ideas anyone?

Welcome to the discussions, Edgar. I've see version 3 files that wouldn't open in 5 without first passing thru 4 or 4.5 - any chance you've got an earlier version around? If not, zip the file up and email it to me and I'll try to pass it thru 4 before going to 5 and saving it. Email's in profile.

Older FCP version

Sorry to ask this on X but I can't seem to find a community for older versions of FCP. I'm guessing Apple's Dept of Info has roached the past again.
Anyway, I have a client with an old G4 and FCP 5 that they have never used. I tried to bring in some clips from an SD card with no success. Particularly because there was no Log and Tranfer option, only Log and Capture. Can I assume that older versions of FCP preceded the use of SD cards? Or was there another way to access the clips?

Trouble opening older iPhoto libraries

I am using iPhoto '08; 7.1.5.
I categorize my photos into libraries by year. The oldest is 2006, then 2007, and now 2008.
I opened my 2006 library and tried to open a picture. It became full size on the screen and then turned to a black background with a large white exclamation point . Then quickly returned to the thumbnail size. I tried this with several pictures and they all did the same thing.
I then checked the 2007 library and it was fine, as is the 2008 library.
I accessed these through iPhoto not my pictures on the hard drive.
Can anyone help me understand what is happening with my iPhoto? Is there a way to correct it?

Here is my post from earlier today. I am also iPhoto 7.1.5. At the bottom is what I ended up doing which seems to have fixed this issue, it takes some time.
+I have been struggling with trying to understand why, in many of my Events, not all, the thumbnails show up with the grey exclamation mark when enlarged. After studying the iPhoto Library, I discovered that all of the Events that were producing this problem had been renamed from the default name "Roll # in the information pane (in iPhoto Application) after importing from the camera. iPhoto Library appears to create a new folder called "iPhoto Originals" where it places these events which seems to "orphan" these photos.+
+I rebuilt the photo library with all options including "Recover orphaned photos in the iPhoto Library folder". It asked "do you want to import orphaned photo", I said yes. All of photos in the "iPhoto Originals" folder were imported into a new default Event named by the oldest photo date. It also created a new Album called Recovered Photos.+
+The Events referencing the "orphaned" photos still exist with the same problem. How can I recreate the original Events with the newly imported original photos with out creating the original problem?+
+• Should I delete the photos from orphaned Events and then move the recovered photos into the that Event?+

Here is what I ended up doing.
I opened the new Event with the newly imported orphaned photos and made sure all the photos that were imported were the same ones giving me issues with the famous grey exclamation mark. Then I identified the Events that were problems, wrote them down and deleted them. Don't worry, they will be in your iPhoto trash for safe keeping until you are done.
Go back to the newly imported photos, selected the photos you want in an individual Event, flag them, go to Events in the tool bar and select "Create event from flagged photos", rename the new event in the Library Event view by clicking on the text, not in the information pane in the lower left of the window. This is what seemed to cause the problem originally.
Hope this helps, it's a little tedious but seems to work.

FCP Project won't open in new version

I want to work on an old FCP project I haven't touched in years. I have all the files but not the application any longer (was FCP from 2004). I downloaded the new FCPX trial version but it won't recognize the older files. Do i need an older FCP version?

Depending on what you need to accomplish with this old project, don't discount the possibility of importing a flattened Quick Time movie and working with it in FCPX. Not ideal, but perhaps acceptable.
It seems like a waste to pay the considerable amount pf money that getting either Final Cut Studio 3 or 2 would presently require. (If you go to Amazon, you'll find new sets of FCS3 selling for premiums ranging from $300 to nearly $1,000 above the original price; used sets are selling for nearly as much as the original price.)
The apps in these suites were great for their times, but it's been well over four years since they recieved a refresh. Many who own them (myself included) continue to use them and expect to continue to do so on operating systems like Snow Leoppard for some time. But sooner or later, a new OS version will break them as will the dereasing cability to handle new formats.

Personally, I would not recommend deleting/removing the iWorks 09 folder for several reasons: one is that the new versions have had several functionalities removed and until you decide that you can work with the new one and do not miss any features the older version had, I would leave the old one in place. Personally, I will not be using the new versions.
The second reason is that you can accomplish what you want using a different approach: simply open a Get Info window of your document and choose which version of Pages you want this to open in - you can also stipulate that all docs like this are opened with whichever particular version.
FWIW: Once you have edited an old document in the new Pages version, you can no longer open it in the older version. However, you can still export it to the old version.

Can you open an FCP file in older versions?

I have a G4 with FCP 4 HD. And I also have, or now "had" a G5 with FCP 5 something on it. The G5 logic board i think just died on me because it currently does not boot up.
Am I able to open an FCP file in an older version?

The G4 is currently running OS 10.3.9.
I have an OS 10.4 installation disc but the G4 does not load it, it stops shortly after the installation process begins and I don't know why it won't install.
I do not have the FCP 5 discs. And do not believe it would even work on OS10.3, or would it?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Trouble installing older version of Photoshop Elements on Windows 8.1

I'm having trouble installing an old version of Photoshop Elements (I have no need to upgrade) on Windows 8.1 - it keeps saying I need Internet Explorer 4.0 or above, though I have IE 11. I've tried the regedit fix mentioned here: Elements needs version 4 or newer of Internet Explorer to install? but it doesn't seem to be working - the default was already C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE, and the Path was C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer; - I changed it to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer: but that made no difference. I can't uninstall IE 11 from Windows 8.1, or install an older version.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I used an IEXPLORE.EXE from internet explorer 7 and set the registry path to that.
Then provided your hard drive doesn't have more than 1 TB of free space, photoshop elements 1 should install and run on windows 8.1
Don't forget to set the registry paths back to what they were originally.

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I have moved the Event and Project Folders to the "top-layer of the drive" as the instructions state, right alongside the System Folder, Users Folder and Applications Folders.
When I open iMovie 10.0.8, the Events and Projects Folders are empty:
When I select File/Update Projects and Events, I get an alert box that says iMovie couldn't find any:
Not knowing exactly what is meant by the "top layer" in the instructions, I moved the Events and Project folders back inside the "Movies" folder where I found them (but then not where I would call the "top" layer, but rather "iMac/Users/Home/Movies/iMovieProjects". Then I tried to "Update Projects and Events" and received the same alert: "iMovie could not find any projects or events to update."
Then I tried to update iMovie 9.0 (iMovie '11 version 9.0 (1073)) to version 9.0.9 .
[As an aside, the nomenclature of iMovie drives me nuts. The latest version is 10.0.8, which us newer than iMovie '11.]
Back to the update of version 9.0 to 9.0.9.
Presumably because I have version 10.0.8 installed, I got this alert box:
So, I cannot update version 9.0
and I cannot "Update" the Events and Projects created in version 9.0.

SQL Developer Data Modeler - Version 3.0.0.665 - Open older project fail

I just downloaded latest version of SQL Developer Data Modeler (3.0.0.665) and there is no "File" -> "Open" menu item. There is only "Save", "Save as", "Compare with" and "Exit".
I try to drag`n`drop project file to the Data Modeler window. This operation leads to opening project file as XML. I got the same result when I try to open the file with windows context menu "Open with".
How can I open older Data Modeler project? My previous version was 3.0.0 and project file was created there.
Maybe I need disable "Start Page'? But how? I cann`t find appropriate param in Tools -> Preferences

Previewing .iBooks file on iPad opens older versions of the file

I'm in the process of developing a file in iBooks Author and to preview it, I email the .iBooks file to myself as well as my reviewers to preview it on our iPads. When I preview my .ibook file in iBooks, it open a previous version of the same file. How can I get it to open the latest version?
I tried deleting all previous versions from iBooks, deleting my previous emails containing older versions of the file.
