Trouble opening Pages

Since updating to Yosemite I have intermittent problems opening pages documents.  Error is xml file missing.

You are attempting to open a Pages v5 document in Pages '09. Only Pages '09 uses the internal index.xml file content. If you have Pages '09 running and double-click a Pages v5 document, that is a surefire way to get that dialog. Use the Pages '09 file chooser, or right-click > open with > pages (4.3) selection.

  • I'm having trouble opening pages through javascript.

    Whenever I try to open a website that requires javascript, a warning message pops up: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (javascript) isn't associated with any program."
    However, when I went to options to see if javascript was enabled, it was checked.

    I open Word documents on my Mac using Pages and textedit without any problems.
    I also have a copy of OpenOffice and it can also open Word documents without any problems.
    Could you please provide more details on exactly what you mean when you say you having troubles opening Word documents? What kind of troubles?

    My son had a Pages document that he had been working on and needed to print it in a hurry.
    I told him to email it to me and I would open it and print it on my iMac which also has Pages
    I received the email, downloaded the document to my desktop, double clicked on it, and received an error indicating that pages couldn't open the file.
    What should have been a task that took a couple of minutes turned into a real hassle for my son.
    Any ideas where to look on this?

    He was probably using one of the new versions: pages 5.1 for Mac, 2.1 for ios, or Pages for icloud in his browser.  In addition to being very buggy and crippled ( an " unmitigated disaster" said one reviewer), they cannot be opened with earlier versions of Pages.  Get him to export to document toPages 09 format, then encourage him to trash the new version and use Pages 09 (or 1.7.2 for ios).

    Help! I can't open any of my Pages documents. I get this message: The required index.xml file is missing. I don't use the Cloud. Anyone know what's causing this? I'm not using an I-Pad or anything. I just started having this problem on my Mavericks computer this evening. I understand how to move Pages '08 documents to '09 and then to the current version. This is actually not happening with those documents alone. It's happening even with new documents I create in the current version of Pages. I've wasted hours and hours on two documents I now cannot open!

    Thanks for the help and feedback, folks! VikingOSX, your answer was completely over my head, but I tried replacing (pages) with (.docx) and in the process realized what my problem was. I had created a new pages document in Pages 5.2.2 and saved it. Then when I tried to open it later, I had the Pages '09 application already open, and that application couldn't read it. I closed Pages '08, '09, and the newest version, then changed the ending back to (.pages) and double clicked on the document. It automatically opened using 5.2.2.
    So, short story is, if I create something in my newest version, I have to make sure all old versions of the application are closed, otherwise they'll try to open my document and give me the message that it needs an xml file.
    VikingOSX, thanks for making me walk through a process that eventually led to the answer, even if it wasn't exactly the answer you provided! MUCH APPRECIATED. YOU SAVED ME HOURS OF WORK.

    twice I was cut off befor question was tried to answer!!!!!!! I have a Mozilla firefox only problem. The Yahoo home site comes in fine using IE but using firefox the items that are listed 1-4 show up normal but when I try to change to the next 4 it just shows a blank space same with the rest usually about 40 of them

    Press the [Print Screen] (sometimes abbreviated [PrtScr], and located near the scroll lock key), then, open a picture editor, like Microsoft Paint and simply click "Paste." Save the picture, and upload it using the Browse... button below the response box.

    I am having trouble opening pages. When I try, with any document, the icon bounces as if it is about to open, for about a minute and then stops as if it is open but doesn't do anything. When I check the info of the program it says that it has been opened when I try to do this, however, none of the documents actually open. I've tried the previous advice that was given but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

    I am having this same issue. The preference file has not even been created for me to trash it. All iWork icons just bounce once or twice and then quit.
    This was a fresh install. Tried running software update to see if that helped but it did not.

    Personally, I would not recommend deleting/removing the iWorks 09 folder for several reasons: one is that the new versions have had several functionalities removed and until you decide that you can work with the new one and do not miss any features the older version had, I would leave the old one in place. Personally, I will not be using the new versions.
    The second reason is that you can accomplish what you want using a different approach: simply open a Get Info window of your document and choose which version of Pages you want this to open in - you can also stipulate that all docs like this are opened with whichever particular version.
    FWIW: Once you have edited an old document in the new Pages version, you can no longer open it in the older version. However, you can still export it to the old version.

Funny thing is, when I try to open an Instagram page that doesn't exist, it opens the Instagram NOT FOUND page. I don't know what's going on. I've tried everything, from software updates to restarting my Mac etc. Please help.

    Because that site refers you to apps for smartphone devices. Not for your Mac.
    Regardless of the Instagram website, v10.5.4 is an outdated version of Safari. You need to update your system software.
    Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
    Restart your Mac after the updates are installed, then try Instagram on Safari.

    Use Software Update to update your os and anything else that needs to be updated.   Repair permissions and restart your computer when done.
    Not sure if your new Mac came with 10.7.2 pre-installed as you make no mention of your os system.

    A few general trouble shooting tips that may apply here:
    1. If you used Software Update to do the OS update(s) to reach 10.6.7, go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and download and apply the Mac OS v10.6.7 Combo Updater. The Combo Updater contains some fixes that were not included in the incremental updaters used by Software Update.
    1a. Check that you have the current version of Pages (and of the other iWork applications) installed. All three applications' current version numbers end in .0.5
    2. A common cause of malfunctioning applications is a corrupted preferences file (.plist file). Your Pages '09's plist is at yourname > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWork.pages.plist
    Quit Pages, locate the file and Drag it to the Desktop (or to the Trash).
    Restart Pages and attempt to open one of the files.
    If all is well, Trash the plist file and empty the Trash.
    If there's no change, AND you've made changes to the Preferences that you wish to keep, drag the file back to its previous location, replacing any new one that has been created.

  • IPad won't open pages

    So I have pages documents and numbers documents that were created on my iPhone5s. When I open them on my iPad (1st gen) it says I need to upgrade to open it, however I can't update the app as it doesn't support it.
    Is there any way that I can open these documents on my iPad?

    Dropbox, GMail and other 3rd party network solutions are having trouble with Pages 5 file format which is a modified .zip package.
    Try via iCloud.

  • Error message when trying to open pages

    I'm having trouble opening new or existing documents using pages.  I get the error message, "pages cannot be opened because of a problem.  Check with the developer to make sure pages works with this version of Mac OS x.  I've never had this problem before and it's been working since I purchased my IMAC back in 2010.  Other programs for Iwork are working fine..Numbers 09 and Keynote 09.  I tried reinstalling the software several times, restarting my computer and still no luck.. Any suggestions?

    You didn't save the iWork trial.dmg  somewhere by any chance?
    You have not move enough parts of iWork over to the new computer. There are files in
    Users > your name > Library > Application support > iWork. Get the iWork folder
    MacHD > Library > Application Support > iWork '09. Get the folder
    To get into the users Library you have to on Mountain Lion in the Finder click on Go in the menu while pressing down the Option key.

    This is the second time that my ipod errors out.

    We all wish WiFi was simple to use, plug and play, etc. but it is not. You need some understanding of networking to know what is going on. You can Google "wireless networking" and get some basic understanding of what is happening.
    Your iPod is telling you that it is not connected to a network. You have a network strength meter in the top left of your screen and you have the network information in Settings > WiFi.
    Start with these steps:
    1. Reset your network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    2. After your iPod restarts, log back into a network using Settings > WiFi > Other network
    3. Type in the network name, security used, and the password, if needed
    4. If your iPod connects, you will get a check mark displayed next to the network name.
    5. Tap the blue arrow (>) next to the network name and look at the information displayed. If your IP address starts with 169.x, you are not connected to that network and further trouble shooting is required.
    Write back with lots more details. Like the network you are connecting to, the router used (if it is your home network), and so on.

  • Having Trouble Opening TIFF Files

    I'm having trouble opening TIFF files into Camera Raw. I have checked all my settings in Adobe Bridge and everything seems to be saying that TIFF files should open in Camera Raw when I click on then int and then into photoshop when finished editing in camera raw.
    I'm trying to open 32 bit HDR images saved as a TIFF file into Camera Raw, and there seems to be nothing I can do to get them there. I have tried everything I can think of. When I right click on it (cmd click I'm on a mac) the option to open in camera Raw isn't there. I have tried clicking and dragging the image into Photoshop to try and force it maybe to open into Camera Raw, and I have opened photoshop and tried opeing it up from mini Bridge. In mini bridge I have the option to open the image into Camera Raw when I click this nothing happens.
    I'm not sure what else to try I'm on CS6 and Camera Raw 7.0 .

    It might be that you need to update camera raw to version 8.3 by going to Help>Updates from within photoshop or bridge.
    (i don't remember exactly in which version of acr that was added, but probably after version 7.0)
