Trouble opening pdf file on a Mac

We have recently published a digitalised map for anglers in our municipality. Several Mac users report that they cannot open the file. What can be the problem?
File is made in OpenOffice 3 and converted to pdf directly from OO. The map itself has a non-standard sized page.

Your link is incorrect, as it has "http://" at the END of the URL. If I remove that, I can view the PDF fine. A few normal pages, then a massive map, then a few more pages.
Did you make the map on OS X, on another platform? Do you have Acrobat? You might want to try "cleaning" the PDF in Acrobat by saving as an Optimized PDF. (You could try exporting it as a PDF from OS X's Preview app, also.)
Did you ask the Mac users what OS version, browser, etc they were using? Were they viewing the PDF inline inside a browser? Were they using Adobe's PDF browser plug-in, or OS X's built-in PDF rendering ability?

    Hi,
    Do you have Adobe Reader installed on your device? You can check it under Settings-->Apps. If Adobe Reader is installed on your device and still the pdfs open in some other app, then you might have chosen that app to be the default app for always opening pdfs. You can clear the defaults for that application. Just go to Settings-->App--->Polaris(or any other app where the files open)--->Clear Defaults. Next time you try to open a pdf, you will be presented with the options again. Hope this helps. Please let us know if you still face some issues.
    Thanks.

  • I cannot open pdf files on my mac

    can anyone help me find out how I can open pdf files on my mac? I used to be able to open them and all of a sudden, whenever I link on a pdf file, it directs me to a blank screen. Thanks!

    You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com.  The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader.  If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files.  Hope this helps.

  • Trouble opening pdf files on version 9.4...

    Hi, I recently updated (10/7/10) my Adobe from 9.34 to 9.4 and now I'm having trouble opening my files that were working fine with 9.34.. I read the other post but the problem still seems to occur for my mac..the error message I am getting is..
    Adobe Reader could not open 'maher39767_0324639767_02.11_chapter11.spdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
    I reinstalled Adobe and I'm still getting the problem...
    Please help.

    Does this happen with any pdf or this particular pdf ? If it happens with this pdf only then may be the pdf is not properly downloaded or may be damaged.

  • Cannot open pdf files in new Mac Book Pro.

    Hi,
    I downloaded the new Adobe Acrobat from a United Health Care site to view and print some health care info.  I can't seem to open the pdf or print.  I could do easily from my work pc.
    Suggestions ?
    Thanks

    Is the file password-protected in some way?
    Have you tried opening the file in Preview (right-click on the file, click Open With ... Preview).
    If neither Preview nor Adobe Reader works, try obtaining the file again. You don't need Acrobat, by the way, Reader (free) should be sufficient.

  • Trouble open pdf files.  saying damaged files

    Recently PDF files that I can open and view from online will not open once saved to documents folder.  I get a message that says that the file is damaged.  I have reinstalled adobe reader and ran system update.

    That works great all right, but if you need the plugins then you've got problems.

  • Cant open PDF files. Cant open Adobe Reader x

    Hi, I am running windows xp pro. I am having trouble opening PDF files and I cant open adobe reader x. I have uninstalled several times and reinstalled. I have stoped all antivirus services.

    Could you please elaborate a bit more as to what happens when you open a PDF. Do you get some sort of an error or dialog? If so, please post the contents of the same.
    Also, please let me know the version of Reader installed on your system. You can find the same by clicking on Help > About Adobe Reader from within the Reader application.

  • Trouble opening pdf's after installing Yosemite

    Recently installed Yosemite. Trouble opening pdf files e-mailed via Gmail. Opens fine on my iPhone, which is not running Yosemite. Any suggestions appreciated.

    I do this all the time, using preview.
    If you're using Adobe Reader, delete it completely and all should work fine.

  • Cannot open PDF files in AIR app on Mac OS error 3204

    Hello,
    I am having trouble opening a PDF file in adobe air application on Mac OS 10.9.2. I already installed adobe reader 11 and air on mac.
    I also traced HTMLLoader.pdfCapatibility, which returns 3204 (An error was returned by the OS when trying to load the Adobe Reader or Acrobat application or one of its necessary libraries.) .
    I am showing you some sample code to you.
    if(HTMLLoader.pdfCapability == HTMLPDFCapability.STATUS_OK)
                var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(tempFile.url);
                pdf.load(request);
                var ui:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
                ui.addChild(pdf)
                container.addChild(ui);
      else
      trace("PDF cannot be displayed. Error code:",HTMLLoader.pdfCapability);
    It shows the output :  PDF cannot be displayed. Error code: 3204
    Please let me know if anyone have any ideas ............asap

    Hi jon123_123,
    I dont understand what you mean by opening PDF file in Adobe Air, that is platform.
    You should try uninstall Adobe Reader and install Latest version of Adobe Reader with latest updates patches and check again.
