Trouble opening PSD in CS5
Hi,
I've recently made some frame by frame animations in Photoshop CS5, and having saved and quit, I'm no longer able to open the files. I created them on my friend's computer, and cannot open them on his computer or mine. We both have CS5. I've tried running 64bit and 32bit, and this makes no difference.
The error message I get is this:
"Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
I really don't understand this, since the file was created in CS5 surely it should be compatible with CS5?!
I have tried:
Copying file and saving with a different name,
Opening the file in CS3 (which works) and copying the layers to a new file and then re-saving - but this still does not open in CS5
When I've finished the animation in Photoshop, I need to put it into AfterEffects, but the PSD won't open, because it isn't compatible with Photoshop.
I can't complete the animation in CS3 as I won't have the brushes I need, so I'm really stuck! This is for my final year university project.

in CS3 can you Scripts>Export Layers to Files....
save them into a folder, then...
in CS5 choose the folder in open the folder in Bridge, select all files and choose Tools>Photoshop>Import files to layers
a bit of a long journey, but deadlines are deadlines...

Trouble Opening Illustrator on CS5.5
I am using the Design Premium cs5.5 on my mac computer. I am having trouble opening the illustrator programme. All the other programmes in the suite work but when I go to open this one it opens to the 'initialising' page and then nothing. Ive tried reinstalling the programme as well but nothing seems to help.

Having trouble opening document in CS5
I am trying to open a document in CS5, says I need plug ins. I found the appropriate plug ins in the adobe extentions manager but they are locked. Help?
That error message is generally shown when you try to open an INDD file

Trouble opening .psd files in FW
I recently purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard.
I have been working in Dreamweaver and haven't needed to use
Fireworks until today. Well, I tried to open a photoshop file in
Fireworks and it 'unexpectedly quits'. I have tried to import the
.psd file. I have tried to drag in the .psd file. I even
reinstalled the Fireworks part of my suite. NOTHING IS WORKING! I
am on a Mac OS X 10.4.11. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank

Trouble opening photoshop doc in CS5
hello there,
I am having trouble opening my older files (CS4) in my new CS5. Is there normal? I can preview the file when i 'space bar' it on the desktop but thats about it. When i go to open the file it says 'Could not complete your request because an unknown jpeg marker type is found. Do you think this might be font related?
Hope someone can help.

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.
Other than that if it is not a huge number of files you could try to open the images in Preview and saving them as another format. -
Please Help? Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw update. I have a pc.
If the camera is fairly new then the version of ACR you have with CS5 won't be able to read those file. You'll need to upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop or use Lightroom 5.
Once a new version of Photoshop comes out Adobe does not support updating ACR from the older version of PS. -

My home and office have different version each.Yes, PROVIDED that the file has not been saved with any layers containing any of the specific new features introduced starting with Photoshop CC and higher.
If the file has been flattened or if it was flat to begin with there will be no problems. -

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem. -
Opening .psd Files from cs3 In CS5?
I'm new to photoshop CS5 and I'm getting this error on some PSD files "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document" and I think its because these .psd files were made/saved in CS3. So is there any way I can open CS3 .psd files in CS5?
If CS3 .psd files should open fine in CS5, then does anyone know what could be my problem? thanks!There should not be an issue with PSD's from CS3, in CS5. There were some compatibility issues way back, but Adobe offered the ability to include that backward compatibility.
My first thought would be that there is a problem with those particular PSD files. Do they Open in PS CS3? Do they Open fine in programs, like IrfanView?
Now, if there IS an issue with CS5, someone will correct my assertions.

What file types won't ACR open?
I understand that ACR will not open layered images, but what about flat PSD files? When I Right Click on a PSD in bridge or mini bridge, open in camera raw is not an option. Command R, or file-->open with camera raw doesn't work either. Is it possible to open a PSD file with camera raw? From my tests 16 vs 8 bit didn't make a difference, but should it? Some of my friends have had trouble opening up Tiff files also. I know their preferences were correct.
Should Non layered tiff and PSD files open in ACR? What file types will ACR refuse to open?
And for extra credit...If a layered file opens in ACR are you only editing the background layer?

Not true.
You can open .PSD files with ACR. From within Photoshop, choose File - Open As - Camera Raw, and note that .PSD files are being shown with the File Open dialog filter in force.
You have to have saved the PSD with the Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility setting so that Camera Raw can read the flattened composite preview that's saved in that mode. Otherwise it will complain that the file-format module could not parse the file. Camera raw will only open the composite.
PSD files saved with Maximize Compatibility are of course larger because of the flattened composite being included, but as the option says they're also more compatible.

How do I make After Effects files in Windows 7 open in AE CS5 instead of the default CS5.5?
I have AE 5.5 and 5 installed on a Windows 7 machine and I'd like .AEP files open in CS5 by default.
I've tried using windows explorer to specify using the CS5 program but it defaults back to CS5.5
I've tried using Bridge CS5 and CS5.5 Edit/Preferences/File Type Associations but After Effects isn't even listed for some reason.
The only way I can open files in CS5 is by opening CS5 and opening the files from there. Trouble is I have more CS5 files than CS5.5 and I collaborate with several other artists only running CS5 so converting them to CS5.5 isn't an option right now.
Any ideas?

ChrisNah, won't work. You would have to completeley erase the "After Effects Project" file type from your file associtaions and then literally rebuild it from scratch. Yes, that means heavy surgery by digging into the Registry and its HKEY_CASSES_ROOT branch as just removing it from the Explorer file associations still leaves the file type class in place. Long answer short: Just leave things as they are and keep your work organized. I never use double-clicking and I'm juggling versions from CS4 to CS6 every day, so it's possible.

My Images won't open in Photoshop CS5 when I click on Edit in Lightroom - even though this option has been selected? To edit in Photoshop I have to export image from Lightroom then import into Photoshop. I have other programmes such as NIK and if I wish to edit in these everything works fine.
Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.

Files from Windows Vista do not open in Bridge CS5
I am having trouble opening my images from Window Explorer level with Bridge.
I tried to open my jpgs with "open with" option and my PC does nothing. Same happens when I double click the raw images.
I have my jpgs assigned to open in windows but I assigned my raw files to open in Bridge CS5 unfortunately raws will not open after double click.
Can someone help?
ThanksPerhaps it is just semantics, but you want the double click to open in Photoshop CS5 and not Bridge. Same thing with the raw it should open in ACR and not Bridge, as Bridge is just a browser.
With your raw problem. If you open photoshop and click help/about plug-in/camera raw you should get one version listed. Most camera raw problems result from ACR in wrong folder, or more than one version in the folder. -
I saw some where that you can open a PSD in ACR by File>Open As. I have CS5 and there is no such option as "Open As" in my File.
I also think I saw where you can change the default for opening from PS to ACR. Is anyone familiar with this and how do you change the default?

No, you need to use the File > Open menu command. In the Open dialog box, you need to go the Format item and select Camera Raw from the dropdown submenu:

No; that is incorrect. You cannot select Camera Raw as default to open PSD files. You have to go through the File menu > Open every single time you want to open a PSD in Camera Raw.

Trouble opening files in Elements
I can access my Elements program, but I am having trouble opening files...I've tried opening several files (JPG, PSD, etc) and nothing appears in the actual program. Any advice?
I am using Version 12. I've tried both ways: Opened the file first in Photo Viewer, then Open > Elements...and Opened Elements first, then File > Open > Browse File. I just updated the version to 12.1, but it's still not working. Should I install and reinstall the program?
