Trouble: oracle 8i on pentium 4

i think that this bug has been quite well-known. there are some workarounds to solve this, like renaming sym..dll to something else... but it doesn't seem to work fine... so i am just wondering if there is any workarounds to install 8i on pentium 4.
it would be great if there is any patch that i can download. i can't log on to metalink...
thanks in advance...

This is a well known problem. Search this forum for "pentium 4" and you will get the workaround. Indeed you have to copy everything to harddrive first and then rename some dll files. There is no other way.

  • Can't load Oracle 8i on Pentium 4

I tried to install Oracle 8i ver 8.1.6 on a pentium 4 machine (HCL infiniti 2000) on Windows 98 O.S, but the Oracle universal installer doesn't start and gave the error.
This program performed Illegal Operation and will be shutdown
    error javai.dll pagefault.
I found that this is due to the JVM version provided with Oracle 8i. Pentium 4 supports JVM ver 1.3 & above. where as Oracle 8i comes with JVM 1.1.7.
I can't run Javac onf JDK ver 1.2.1 and in lower versions. but it runs on JDK version 1.3.
plese let me know if any patches available to solve this problem.

Intel says there is a bug in oracle's OUI as well other swing based programs. The solution is to copy the CD to local drive and add -nojit as first parameter to JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS e.g. JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS="-nojit -mx32m"
This will enable OUI to run. Even after installing oracle Net80 conf. asst won't start due to same reason.
Go to HOME\admin\tools\ and edit netca.cl and netasst.cl to add same -nojit before -classpath.
Do this for every tool that gives this prob such DBA studio...

  • Oracle 8 on PENTIUM IV

    hi
kindly someone will guide me what steps have to be taken while installing oracle 8 on pentium 4
i mean what files are to be handele during the installation.
    kindly guide me step wise
    Regards

    Hi,
It will be a good idea to go thru the installation doc before doing the install. There are too many steps to write here. AFAIK, there are no issues of oracle8 on P4.
BTW, why do you want to install oracle8? You will benefit, if you go for 9i or atleast the terminal release of 8i.

  • Oracle forms 6i (Pentium 4, Win98) "Can not install"

I have a "customized" Oracle interface that was created in Oracle forms 6. I have successfully used this form on Windows 95 Clients but now I must switch to a Windows 98 O/S on a Pentium 4 machine. I actually had to download a special Oracle Installer to install the 8i Client, but I now need to load a newer version of the Forms "run-time" and can not install it from the 6i forms download. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated.

Forms 6i installation in Windows98 should not give any trouble. Hope you
have checked the memory. You should have 128MB memory to install
Forms6i. In Runtime you may not actually require that much of memory but
to install you reuire that (Please see Hardware requirement for Form6i).

  • How to install oracle client on pentium 4

please can someone tell me how to install oracle client 8i on pentium 4 system. the installation is not going automaticlly , and if i explore the cd and press on the setup file the installing didnt start.

8i definitely has problems with Pentium IV processors. The fix is to copy the entire CD to the hard drive and then rename each copy of symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.

  • ODBC trouble Oracle BI Client

    Hi all,
I created a cube using awm. I need to use my cube to make excel reports.
Since everything is installed in a unix server. I needed to install BI admin tool in my windows machine Windows 7 , and set an ODBC connection to the Oracle BI Server.
Everything seems to go fine, but when I click Finish , I get the message ODBC Administrator has stopped working
I really can't understand the problem. Not even an error message to rely on. Can it be related to Windows 7 ?
Any information will be helpful ! Thx !!

  • Oracle 8i installation problem on Win XP pro, Pentium 4

I am trying to install oracle 8i on Pentium 4 PC, Win XP professional Operating system, 512MB RAM.
When I run setup.exe then it is silent, no response.
I installed java J2SDk1.4.0 standard edition, and Java runtime environment. It is still the same problem.
Would you please let me know what should I do ??
    Thanks.
    Mohammad

    Well
    1. Copy the entire contents of your Oracle8i cd into hard disk. The folder can be any name but not "oracle"
    2. Do a find files in the local hard disk where oracle files is copied in Step 1. Look for --> jit
    3. Rename the file to something like jit_old
    4. Run the installer. It should work now.
But better check on web there might be some issues related to java later when u need to install java software into the PC.
    Happy install

  • Pentium 4 vs. Oracle

There was an issue that was posted some time ago about a conflict of Oracle running on Pentium 4. If there is a problem has it been resolved via a patch. If not what are the problems that were identified ?
I am having problems with EXCEPTIONS not being raised when for example WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND etc in triggers when clearly there are no rows returned from an explicit cursor.
    Any reply would be appreciated.

The Pentium 4 problem was to do with installing. Your problem sounds nothing to do with using Pentium 4.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 6.4

Can anyone recommend a procedure to install Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 6.4. It is for practice only so security is not an issue. My unix/linux is basic and I am new to Oracle. I am doing an Oracle dba subject at uni this semester and need access to 8i at home to reinforce it. System is running on AMD 400MHz with 192Mb ram and 400Mb swap space.
    Regards,
    Peter

just read installation prerequired and run
./runInstaller. See also on www.suse.com they give an orarun.rpm to finish install.
    (to start/stop database on boot/shutdown).
I tryed RH,Mdk before and I had no problem to ran Oracle on a Pentium MMX 200 with 64 Mo ram :-) 256 Mo swap with suse 6.3 whithout any patches and database files on reiserfs ... but it's just for practice to.

  • Slow work Oracle 10gR2 on Windows server 2003 Standart SP2

    Hi!
I have a problem when i migrating from my old server to new one..
    Old server:
    Windows 2003 SP2 + Oracle 10gR2
    CPU Pentium 4 2.4
    RAM 2 GB
DISK 2 x RAID 1 (one for systen and instance another for data files)
On this system i have disk I/O about 35 - 45 mb per sec.
    New server:
    Windows 2003 SP2 x86 + Oracle 10gR2 x86
    CPU 2 x Xeon Dual Core 1.6
    RAM 4 GB
    DISK 1 x RAID 1(system and instance) 1 x RAID 10 (4 disks SATA) (data files).
When i create tablespace i have disk I/O (EM) about 35 mb/sec and when i try to load data in my new databae (i am using Data Pump import) i have I/O 1 mb/sec. How can i solve this problem?
When i runing Sisoft Sandra i get a result ~100mb/sec. But the ORION get me a very small result aproximetly the same as in old server.

I don't think that this is the place to ask about downloads external to OTN. See forum description. Questions about the patches from Metalink (after searching/reading existing Notes and still not coming up with a definitive answer) should in general be directed to Metalink (e.g. open a SR).
With that said.. If you are asking on how to retrieve the patch set via Metalink interface, then you should turn to Patches & Updates (one of the main tabs). Use e.g. Simple Search or Quick Links to the Latest... to drill down.
When you have found a patch set, the Patch Set readme documents system requirements and other vital information.
If you are looking for other information regarding patches and patching, the first place to look is again Metalink. Certification and supportability information can be found via Certify tab. There are several "tactical" Notes such as 161549.1 and 316900.1 useful for supporting your own procedures and for finding further information.

I try to install Oracle 8, after 6 hours of download, and after decompress the Oracle817ntee.zip in the c:\disk1, try to run the setup.exe and... nothing happens, neither messages, nor errors... nothing. There's a well known issue of running the older version of the Oracle installer with Pentium 4's. If you search this forum and use Pentium 4 for the search string you'll find many posts with the solution.
