Trouble playing a PDF generated from Captivate

I have Adobe Pro and Flash Player 11.1, but unable to play a PDF generated from a Captivate file. The first message I get when I publish is "Note:To view the generated PDF file, you must have Adobe Reader version 9 or later."
When I open the generated PDF, i get this message "TO view the Flash technology content in this PDF file, please install the required version of Flash Player."
WHat am I missing or doing wrong?

You may want to ask in the Captivate forum, as this would likely be something that can be remedied with different "Save" settings. My experience with Captivate is limited, so I can't really offer anything I'd be 100% sure of.

  • Hello.  May I ask:  I am using Acrobat 6.0.2, and having trouble formatting a PDF created from multiple (jpeg) files.  Each page is formatted to A4 size, portrait.  But when I create the PDF, each sheet appears as tiny, in the middle of a huge white page.

    Hello.  May I ask:  I am using Acrobat 6.0.2, and having trouble formatting a PDF created from multiple (jpeg) files.  Each page is formatted to A4 size, portrait.  But when I create the PDF, each sheet appears as tiny, in the middle of a huge white page.  I cannot seem to find any controls to adjust this.  Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks CtDave, for the further info.  Unfortunately, those suggestions are not working, which is strange.
    ....Until last week, I used to make multi-page PDFs straight from Photoshop: File > Automate > Make PDF.  One simply choses the files, orders them, and creates a PDF.  (Resolution doesn't matter; 300 DPI is no problem.)  However, my new Photoshop CS5 does not have the option in Automate.
    What I've done, seeing as Acrobat is letting me down, is use Bridge (new to me) to create the PDF.  It worked without a problem, but seems like more work than the old PS method.  I will download a newer version of Acrobat to see if that makes any difference.
    .....Also, thanks Test Screen Name:  I agree with you that jpeg is irrelevant, and that one can make a PDF from Photoshop (Print > Save As - pdf).  But that only works for SINGLE PAGE pdf, not multiple pages as far as I can tell.
    Kind regards,

  • Disappearing footers in PDF generated from FrameMaker 9

    Myself and three other writers are having a problem with disappearing footers in FrameMaker.  Here’s the problem:  In FrameMaker, the footers display correctly.  When we convert a book to PDF, many of the footers disappear.  What we find is that a footer (or part of the footer) will appear on the first page of the chapter, but then the footers disappear in rest of the chapter.
    Here is some more info:
    ·         We are using Frame 9.  My version is 9.0p250.  I'm also using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, Version 9.3.2 and Adobe Distiller: Professional Version 8.1.3.
    ·         We have been able to duplicate this problem using multiple guides.
    ·         Oddly, footers DO appear correctly when I print just one chapter.
    ·         I’ve tried rebooting my machine and then loaded only FrameMaker (in case of memory issues).
    ·         I optimized the book file and associated chapters.
    ·         I experimented with different Distiller settings.
    Anyone else having this problem?

    It's probably a symptom of needing the MS Hotfix that corrected a problem with text disappearing from PDFs generated from several Windows apps (not just FM).
    More info here:
    PS Hotfix KB 952909

    Please let us know if this does the trick --

  • Color graphic in a PDF generated from a SmartForm causes error

    I have a SmartForm containing a color graphic. It works correctly,
    appears just the way it should in Print Preview, and it prints
    correctly. However, when I generate a PDF file from, Adobe Reader
    complains that the PDF file is corrupt and refuses to print it. If I
    remove the color graphic from the SmartForm and don't make any other
    changes, I get a good PDF file that can be parsed, displayed, and
    printed without any problems.
    Why is the presence of the color graphic in the SmartForm leading to a
    corrupt PDF file? Is there any workaround (short of removing the color
    graphic) that I can use to get a good PDF file?
    Here is a more detailed description of what I am doing.
    1.     Creating the color graphic
         A. I started with a color .TIF file
         B. I went to transaction SE78,
            Form Graphics -> Stored on Document Server ->
              GRAPHICS General Graphics -> BMAP Bitmap Images
         C. Clicked on the "Import" icon
         D. In the "File name" field, navigated to my .TIF file
         E. Typed the name of my graphic in the "Name" field and some
            descriptive text in the "Description" field
         F. Selected the "Color Bitmap Image" radio button
         G. Set the "Print Attributes" as follows:
            Unchecked - Resides in the Printer Memory
            Checked   - Reserve Height Automatically
            Unchecked - Compression
         H. The color graphic seems to upload correctly
         I. When I click on Print Preview, it is displayed perfectly.
         J. When I use the Search Help associated with the name field to
            find the graphic, it is shown with the name and description
            that I gave it, the Object field is displayed as "GRAPHICS",
            the ID field is displayed as "BMAP".
         K. When I select Graphic -> Graphic Information, the Resolution is
            75 DPI and the Size is 26.86 x 8.26 cm. When I use this graphic
            in the SmartForm, I will enter the resolution as 300 DPI - in
            order to get an image whose dimensions are one-quarter of these
            dimensions, but which will have a good resolution for a laser
            printer.
    2.     The use of the color graphic in the SmartForm
         A. It is a "Graphic" node which is the first node on the first
            (and only) page of the SmartForm.
            i.   The Name is the name of the graphic I created
            ii.  Object = "GRAPHICS"
            iii. ID = "BMAP"
            iv.  The "Color Bitmap Image (BCOL)" radio button is selected
            v.   The Resolution = 300 DPI
         B. The position and size are:
            i.   Left Margin = 15.00 MM
            ii.  Width = 69.00 MM
            iii. Upper margin = 15.00 MM
            iv.  Height = 21.77 MM
    3.     The process of producing the PDF file
         A. The function SSF_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME is called to obtain the
            name of the function module associated with the SmartForm.
         B. The function module (whose name was returned by
            SSF_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME) is called with:
            i.   CONTROL_PARAMETERS = a SSFCTRLOP structure with
                 GETOTF = 'X'
                 NO_OPEN = space
                 NO_CLOSE = space
                 NO_DIALOG = 'X'
            ii.  OUTPUT_OPTIONS = a SSFCOMOP structure with:
                 TDPRINTER = 'POST2'
                 TDDEST = space
                 TDNEWID = 'X'
                 TDIMMED = 'X'
                 TDDELETE = space
                 TDCOVER = space
                 TDCOPOES = 1
           iii. JOB_OUTPUT_INFO = a structure of type SSFCRESCL used to
                 receive the OTF file
         C. The function CONVERT_OTF is called with:
            i.   FORMAT parameter = 'PDF'
            ii.  OTF table parameter = the OTFDATA table contained within
                 the JOB_OUTPUT_INFO SSFCRESCL structure returned from the
                 SmartForm function module.
            iii. BIN_FILE parameter = an XSTRING used to receive the PDF
                 file
            iv.  BIN_FILESIZE parameter = an integer used to receive the
                 size of the PDF file.

    Hello David,
    The reason for this problem is probably related to the FlateDecode compression described  in SAP Note 843480 (PDF conversion: Compression of bitmaps and TrueType fonts).
    Try switching off the usage of FlateDecode compression again via report RSTXPDF3 as described in Note #843480.
    It is a little confusing. The option 'FLATE_COMPR_OFF' needs to be set to 'On' to turn off the FlateDecode compression.
    To set this run as follows:
       se38 -> RSTXPDF3 -> enter 'FLATE_COMPR_OFF' in the 'Name' field
             -> Select 'Change Settings' radio button
    You will get a pop-up 'Do not use flat compression'.
    Select the 'on' button.
    After this create a new PDF and check if the problem is resovled.
    Regards,
    Aidan

  • Issue with Czech characters in PDFs generated from RSTXPDFT4

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to generate PDF documents from the spool of the Billing document outputs in our project.
    For this we are using the standard program RSTXPDFT4, which converts the SAP script OTF to PDF format.
    But the Czech characters in the billing document output are not getting displayed in the PDF generated out of it.
    We are already using a device type I2HP4 when creating the print request , which supports Latin-2 Character set ( ISO 8859-2 ), to which the special characters
    of East European languages belong.
    Even then , the czech characters are not getting displayed in the PDF generated.
    We have raised  a message to SAP for this, and SAP informed us that currently the only solution to this is to use Latin 2 soft fonts,
    and to upload these soft fonts into R/3 System using report RSTXPDF2 as they contain the Eastern European special characters plus all the other characters in ISO 8859-2.
    But, since character font definitions (font files) are protected by copyrights, SAP informed us that they cannot provide these font files and we have to acquire
    these latin-2 font files by searching in search engines in the internet.
    If anyone has the information where we can get these "Adobe type 1 Latin-2" font files with '.PFB' extension,  for the proper display of Czech characters, please let me know.

    Hi,
    Did you or anyone manage to find a reasonable solution for this issue?
    I'm currently facing something similar but with Polish characters instead.
    I tried using RSTXPDF2 to upload .PFB and .TTF files but to no avail.

  • How to play pencast PDF files from a Livescribe pen like the normal computer software can?

    I would love my students to open and play a pencast PDF file from a Livescribe pen on their iOS devices like the normal computer software can. Any help? Other apps that could play the audio and video of these types of files?

    If it's a PDF with multimedia, it won't play in Adobe Reader. It doesn't support multimedia.
    You might try the (paid) PDF Expert app.

  • PDF's From Captivate 5.5 Not Playing . . .

    Hello,
    In the past couple of years I've developed about 15 presentations for our customers using Captivate.  They've all worked great until recently.  Today I dug in to see if I could figure out what the scoop is.  It looks like it all boils down to the fact that they don't like the latest version of "Adobe Reader" and "Flash Player".  With the latest versions installed here's what our customers (and myself) get:
    If I uninstall all the latest and greatest and re-install Adobe Reader 9.5.0 then try the production.  Works fine like it always did.
    Please tell me there's a better fix then downgrading.
    THANKS so much!
    And if this has been posted and answered a million times before, I'm sorry I missed it.  I did look around quite a bit and didn't see a fix.

    Issue
    When you publish Adobe Captivate projects with a TOC as PDF, the published SWF content doesn't play in Acrobat XI.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/kb/captivate-swf-doesnt-play-acrobat.html
    Solution
    1. Download the hot fix from the following locations:
    a. If you are using Adobe Captivate 6.0.1 (build 6.0.1.240), click here. https://workspaces.acrobat.com/app.html#d=dPNipWAhuCCdDrN4EZRGMA
    b.
    c. If you are using Adobe Captivate 6 update for subscription and Adobe Software Assurance customers (build 6.1.0.319), click here. https://workspaces.acrobat.com/app.html#d=UKMjxvniyoH5iIuf*CTJCw
    Note: You are prompted to provide your Adobe ID and password while downloading the hot fix. If you do not have an Adobe ID, you can easily create one following the onscreen instructions.
    2. Extract the files from the downloaded ZIP file and save them in a folder, for example, my folder.
    3. Close Adobe Captivate.
    4. Navigate to the sdk\libs\cplibs folder in the Adobe Captivate installation directory:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 x64
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6
    /Applications/Adobe Captivate 6
    5. Go to <install directory>\sdk\libs\cplibs\9.0 folder and do the following:
    Rename cpTOC.swccpTOC.orig, and MainMovie.swcMainMovie.orig.
    a. Copy cpTOC.swc and MainMovie.swc files from the downloaded ZIP (Step 2) in \sdk\libs\cplibs\9.0.
    6. Repeat step 5 for <install directory>\sdk\libs\cplibs\10.0 folder too.
    7. Launch Adobe Captivate and republish your project.
    Important: With this fix, you can play the SWF file in Acrobat 11. However, self-paced learning is not supported. (When you stop and resume the course, the course begins all over again and does not take users to the point where they stopped earlier.)

  • Page length problem in PDFs generated from HTML pages in Acrobat

    I just spent an exhausting 2-1/2 hours on the phone with Adobe tech support (offshore) in order to get a 5 minute fix. I figured that I'd document it here in case another user has the same problem. (I'd checked the forums and a few e-mail lists and hadn't found a solution.)
    When generating PDFs from HTML (Web) pages, Acrobat squeezed all of the text into the middle of a single page (with just the last inch or so of text on page 2). This resulted in pages that Acrobat identified as being 30", 40", even 60" long, and the printed results were unusable. I haven't been able to identify an event or a system change that caused this to happen; Acrobat had been generating PDFs properly before this trouble started.
    THE FIX:
    1. Start Acrobat and run the Repair Installation option from the Help menu.
    2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\8.0
    and rename the Preferences file to PreferencesOld. A PC restart will be
    required after this change.
    3. Restart Acrobat. This creates a fresh Preferences folder.
    4. Test creating PDFs from a single HTML page and from multiple pages.

    Thanks, Bernd, but where are these settings?  While I'm writing, is there a setting to make an html file fit on one page in Acrobat?

  • Image Maps link not working in Acrobat 8 3D PDFs generated from RoboHelp 7

    All of my hyperlinks work when I just generated my RoboHelp
    project to PDF using RoboHelp 7 with the new Adobe Technical
    Communications Suite (with Acrobat 8 3D). However, the links to
    topics within the document didn't maintain from the image maps. I
    had originally created flowcharts in Microsoft Visio, exported then
    as .gifs, and imported them into topics in RoboHelp X5. Then I
    created image maps from the boxes to topics in the RoboHelp
    project. When I converted my project to RoboHelp 7 and generated
    the PDF, all the links work great, except I don't get the
    finger-pointing cursor when I hover over the boxes in the
    flowcharts like I do with regular hyperlinks. Can someone please
    tell me why? Thanks!

    Sigh... and this is why no one like to work with newbies...
    Thank you for your help. I am embarrased to admit that this was the issue.

  • How to show custom header in pdf generated from report

    Hi,
    I  have created a report that is used to display Leave record of employees in an organization. After which it creates a pdf file and send it to respective HOD.
    In this case I am trimming generated output and sendinf only required fields to the pdf.
    When pdf is getting generated it shows program name as Title of that report.
    I want to change this header to my own header along with some variable but not sure how I can do so.
    I have also tried TOP-OF_PAGE but problem in this case is that I am still getting program name along with it.
    To generate pdf I have used function :
      call function 'CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF'
        exporting
          src_spoolid   = spoolid
          no_dialog     = ' '
        importing
          pdf_bytecount = l_no_of_bytes
          pdf_spoolid   = l_pdf_spoolid
          btc_jobname   = l_jobname
          btc_jobcount  = l_jobcount
        tables
          pdf           = l_pdfdata.
    Then I had converted this pdf to Binary
    call function 'QCE1_CONVERT'
        tables
          t_source_tab         = l_pdfdata
          t_target_tab         = lit_record
        exceptions
          convert_not_possible = 1
          others               = 2.
    Then I had created subject matter and used FM : SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1: to send mail to respective HODs.
    I tried dubbing it but couldn't get any variable which is holding program name.
    Sorry for putting in wrong forum.
    so Closing it from this forum and raising the same in ABAp-General forum.
    How to change header of pdf in generated report

  • Live links in PDFs generated from Microsoft Word 2008?

    A couple of years ago, I was informed that my live links (bookmarks, indexmarks, etc.) in documents generated by Microsoft Word 2004 for the Macintosh did not become PDF live links in Acrobat Standard 7 because the Mac version from Microsoft Word 2004 didn't use the necessary hooks (
    i "APIs"
    or something like that) even though the Windows version did.
    Now that MS Word/MS Office 2008 for the Mac is coming out, will we be able to generate PDFs with such live links.
    Any input will be most appreciated.
    Acrobat Standard 7.0.9. Tiger 10.4.11. Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

    While this does not answer the problem of live links. (You can create them Manually, they just are not generated direct from Office Mac).
    The answer to the other question of the little annoying PDFMaker Menu (that never really worked correctly for me (took 5 minutes just to generate a 108K PDF).
    Because MicroSoft took out VBA Support on Mac side That rendered the PDFMaker menu useless because it uses VBA to work.
    So what they have done in Word 2008 is actually put it as Translator choice on the save menu. They now directly can save Word Files directly as PDF files. once you have created your file and saved it. Then go again to *Save As....* , when menu open scroll mouse down until you run across the choice PDF. select that and save. not only is it easier a 108K document can be saved in about 15 seconds or less not the old 5 minutes going through PDFMaker.
    One of PDFMaker's failings was that each step of conversion it called up Distiller which first created a .PS file. Then it checked the file. Then created the PDF file. Then checked the file again before actually writing the PDF File. Then only after checking the written PDF, would it delete the invisible PS file. Finally the PDF file was created. Naturally with all the check steps if you have a very large file could take ages.
    With word's new feature (2008) you can generate a PDF at blinding speeds.
