Trouble playing HDV and installing HDV codec

hi,
Quicktime and Final cut wont play back HDV footage on my new macpro that i captured on another macpro which is identical in configuration. I have tried installing the apple hdv codec and the apple intermediate codec but i keep getting a message which says 'you cannot install HDV components on this volume. Could not find specified message for index 20.'
I dont remember having to install any extra codecs the last time i installed final cut on another mac inorder to playback HDV footage.
thanks

if you go to MacHD>library>Quicktime... do you have the AppleHDVCodec.component there?

  • Trouble playing HD and 4K footage at100Mbps

    Hi,
I need help. I have a new GH4 and I have some trouble playing HD and 4K footage at 100Mbps.
I had an older GTX 470 which trouble was more present and now, I bought the new GTX 970. Trouble are still here... It's a bit better on 50Mbps footage with tge new 970 than with the  470.
I run Windows 7 Pro 64 bits on a SSD drive, I got a raid volume for the medias, Intel Xeon X3450, 16Go RAM and the GTX 970 with 4 Go.
Adobe told me it's maybe a problem with the communication between Premiere and the CUDA. It seems to be a known problem but no solutions...
I found this a little bit strange because I have no problem with my EX1R footage at 35Mbps with my older 470 and newer 970...
I don't know what to do... I don"t think that my workstation is older to run this kind of footage...
    Hope you can help me...
    Thanks for all.

  • Trouble playing HDV .mov

A friend of mine exported a high-definition Quicktime .mov from Final Cut Pro, but whenever I try to open it in Quicktime it says I don't have the proper codec. I can't figure out which one I need though. I have Quicktime Pro (v 7.6) and MPEG-Streamclip. Can anyone help? (These are the details from the Movie Inspector)
    HDV 1080i60, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    FPS: 29.97
(No codec seems to be listed)
    Thanks!

Actually I think you are again just being combative. You asked about the format of the file from the camera and pointed out MTS files open OK. It was neither from the or any camera nor an MTS but an edited FC movie in HDV format and should have been exported to a delivery codec from the edit codec. This question comes up a lot, the raw edited video still in HDV is delvered and the recipient has no HDV codec on their mac to play it back. I am not sure if Streamclip can or not.

    What to do next?

    Hi Rob,
    Thank you for your question.
I've noticed that you mentioned "removing all other office stuff", so you've installed other Office products on the same machine previously?
Older version of Office product sometimes has an impact on your installation. If this is the case, I would suggest we first run
    Microsoft Fix It tool
to remove any trace from older version of Office, then try again.
Also, when the installation get stuck at 87%, go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features and see if the Office instance has been created in the list. If yes, please try to right click it, select "Change", then repair Office
2013 and see if this will fix the issue.

  • Trouble with Archive and Install of Tiger 10.4.6

During a Software Update of QuickTime 7.5 I ran into multiple problems:
    1. Iphoto would not import from any souce.
    2. Safari quit when I used the Bookmark menu.
    3. Itunes won't show any graphics.
    4. Others I haven't run into yet?
I tried repairing permissions, then I downloaded the Quicktime 7.5 and tried to install, the installation quit.
I tried re-installing Iphoto from my ILife 06 disk, still could not import.
I tried to do an Archive and Install from my Tiger 10.4.6 DVD, the installatiion quit, said retry. I repaired permissions using the Tiger install DVD, the tried to do an Archive and Install again, but it quit during the installation.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
How much free space do you have on what size HD?

  • Trouble playing HDV on Quicktime

    Can anyone help?
I have Quicktime Pro 7.1.2. I'm trying to play media files from a DVD that's part of an Apple Certified course (FCE HD). The standard NTSC footage plays fine, but the HDV footage sticks for both audio and video.
    Movie Info...
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo 48k
    H.264 Decoder, 1920 x 1080, Millions
    29.97fps
    89.48 mbits/sec
    many advance thanks
    Aldo

Thank you for the quick and informative reply. That would make sense.
Strangely though, the Apple Certified book system requirements page would suggest my G4 iBook is well above spec. The accompanying DVD comes with Quicktime 6.4. Do you think the HDV footage would play on my G4 if I was using this older version of Quicktime?
    best

  • Trouble playing .avi and .mpg files

I'm about ready to throw my Panasonic HDC-TM15 out the window.
I used the camera memory to shoot video files and then uploaded those files onto my work computer, which is an HP. The files came in as .m2ts which would only play in the Panasonic video-editing software. Through this software I was able to convert the files to .mpg.
I decided I wanted to use my new Mac Book Pro to edit the video files so I moved all the files (both .mpg and .m2ts) to an external hard drive and then plugged that into my MacBook. However, the files will not play through quicktime at all. I tried opening some old .avi files and that won't play either.
I'm really fed up and I don't understand why these files (.mpg, .m2ts, .avi) will not play on my macbook. Any suggestions?

Both MTS and MPG files are variations of MPEG; .mts is typically an MPEG-2 Transport Stream while .mpg is typically an MPEG-2 Program Stream (but not always). So you're essentially converting from one MPEG format into another and obviously that doesn't help.
As Jeremy Hansen already suggested, try using MPEG Streamclip (freeware) along with Apple's QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component ($19.99 USD) to convert the original MTS files into a codec that your system can play/work with.
Jeremy is also correct about .avi files. AVI is merely a container; the audio and video streams contained within could have been made from any number of codecs, not all are available for a Mac. You could try downloading Perian ( http://perian.org/ ) to see if the added codecs from that package will let you play and/or convert some of the AVI files.

  • After installing divX codec, QT won't play divX .avis

    Environment:
    Windows XP pro
    QT pro 7.1.3
    DivX 6.5
I hate windows media player, and always play my media in QT if I can. When I tried to play some avis in QT that were encoded with DivX, the QT dialog box came up and directed me to the apple site which had the divx link. It stated there that the codec will work for QT, on both mac and windows. However, after I download and install the codec, the only thing I see in my player is a black screen with no audio. (And I think that before I installed the codec, I at least got the audio.) But now I get nothing.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Thinking of Installing a CODEC Pack - Maybe Rethink That

John T. Smith's article: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1321581?tstart=0 points out an issue, that is affecting many. It's basically a Trojan, but it "encrypts" files, including media files, and then demands a ransome. One method of delivery has been via CODEC's. So far, that delivery has not been associated with any specific CODEC "pack," but those have been used, in the past, to deliver nefarious payloads.
Before one is tempted to download and install a CODEC pack, I would urge the greatest of caution, before doing so.
Even some time after the MS link in John's article was dated, it appears that current anti-virus and anti-malware programs cannot detect this payload. I have seen links to "cleaners," but the upshot seems to be (as of this moment) that the encryptation cannot be reversed - yet. One might get rid of the Trojan, but the files are still lost forever.
Just a H/U, and something to think about, before installing a CODEC pack, or free CODEC, plus all the other cautions on clicking on unknown links, e-mail attachments (even if you know and trust the sender, as their computer could have been compromised, and be a zombie, spreading horrible things), or similar. Just when you thought that it was safe to go into the water...

You can either format the external drive FAT 32 so both Leopard and XP can use the drive together. The other way is to partition the drive for leopard and a second partition for XP. That way they each have their own storage area on the drive.

  • My 2008 Mac Pro running Lion will not play HDV1080i60 footage in FCP 7. When I open the sequence settings, all HDV codecs are hdv1, hdv2, hdv3, and so forth. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

My 2006 - 2008 Mac Pro running Lion will not play HDV 1080i60 footage in FCP 7. When I open the sequence settings, all HDV codecs are hdv1, hdv2, hdv3, and so forth. However, when I open the project on my other Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and FCP 6, the footage works fine as it does on my newer Imac running Mavericks and FCP 7. I have tried a Quicktime update on the Mac Pro that the footage doesn't work on but it says that I already have the newest version of Quicktime installed. I have also tried reinstalling the Final Cut Pro Studio twice, still no fix. I'm completely out of solutions and need to be able to edit HDV footage on this machine. Any help would be great. Thanks.

there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up.  Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests.  But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum.  there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc.

  • Leopard install 'broke' my HDV codec

After installing Leopard on my G5 desktop I am no longer able to play back HDV files using QT, and FCP 6.0.1 complains that a codec is missing and needs hardware support. I tries removing all of my FCP files/receipts and reinstalling--same error! I reinstalled Qmaster--same error! The two receipts I did not remove were the Quicktime_730 Leopard and Quicktime MPEG2--I didn't want to break Quicktime. Should I have removed these as well? I also did trash preferences, and repair disk permissions.
This is getting frustrating (though fortunately that is not my main editing machine)!!
    Any thoughts?
Where are the actual HDV codecs kept on the system so I can see if they are installed but not being recognized, or if they are simply not being installed at all.
    --Robert

TIme to back up your files, erase the hard drive and install Leopard from scratch, then the applications.
That may be the only way to fix this.

  • Apple HDV codec and Out of Memory error on transferred project

    Hi,
I recently captured and have been editing fine with HDV footage on my iMac (surprisingly enough). My question is, I transfered the entire project to a collegue to edit on his new Powerbook(much faster than my machine) he gets two errors when he tries to open the sequence. 1. Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card. Then, 2 - Out of Memory. He can play the audio off the QT movies but the display is only white. I looked up the Movie info for the QT movies and mine is reading that it is Apple HDV codec. The exact same clip's Movie info on his Powerbook is reading only HDV? Can anybody help? I'm pretty perplexed on this one.
    Thanks!

It really would be useful if you included information like: FCP versions, QT versions, how the footage was captured and what codec was used?
Do you and he have matching versions of FCP? of QT?
If he doesn't have the codec you used to capture, then he t'aint gonna play the file. It is as simple as that.
