Trouble playing HDV on Quicktime

Can anyone help?
I have Quicktime Pro 7.1.2. I'm trying to play media files from a DVD that's part of an Apple Certified course (FCE HD). The standard NTSC footage plays fine, but the HDV footage sticks for both audio and video.
Movie Info...
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo 48k
H.264 Decoder, 1920 x 1080, Millions
29.97fps
89.48 mbits/sec
many advance thanks
Aldo

Thank you for the quick and informative reply. That would make sense.
Strangely though, the Apple Certified book system requirements page would suggest my G4 iBook is well above spec. The accompanying DVD comes with Quicktime 6.4. Do you think the HDV footage would play on my G4 if I was using this older version of Quicktime?

  • Can't Play HDV 1080p24 Quicktime Movie - PLEASE HELP!

I have a self-contained Quicktime file that plays fine using the Quicktime application on my computer that has Final Cut Pro installed on it. However, when I move that Quicktime to my computer that does not have Final Cut Pro, it says I don't have the proper codec. (It plays the audio fine, but the video is just a black screen.)
Can I download this specific codec on my non-FCP computer so that I can play this file?
Here are the specifics on the Quicktime in question:
    Format:
    HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
And, if it helps at all, we footage was created with a Canon XL-H1 camera, imported into FCP, edited, and exported as a Quicktime file using current settings. And, the non-FCP computer does have Quicktime Pro installed.
    Thanks!

Gonna have to look at a third party solution...
#51 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD or HDV or ProRes on my computer.
Shane's Stock Answer #51 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD, HDV or ProRes QT files on your computer.
The DVCPRO HD, HDV and ProRes codecs only comes with FCP. If your computer does not have FCP installed, it cannot view these quicktime files. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or PC, without FCP installed, you cannot view these files.
If you need to view ProRes material, you can download the ProRes decoder (mac and windows compatible) for ProRes
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forWindows.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac
If your footage was captured as DVCRO HD you can buy the Calibrated DVCPRO HD decoder:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QDVCProHD.asp
HDV, XDCAM? Calibrated has you covered too:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
If you have MXF files from a P2 camera and you need to view the footage on a computer without FCP, you can download P2CMS from Panasonic:
    http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/p2-hd/downloads-and-updates.asp
Or you need the other party to compress the footage into a format your computer can play, like H.264.

  • Trouble playing HDV and installing HDV codec

    hi,
Quicktime and Final cut wont play back HDV footage on my new macpro that i captured on another macpro which is identical in configuration. I have tried installing the apple hdv codec and the apple intermediate codec but i keep getting a message which says 'you cannot install HDV components on this volume. Could not find specified message for index 20.'
I dont remember having to install any extra codecs the last time i installed final cut on another mac inorder to playback HDV footage.
    thanks

if you go to MacHD>library>Quicktime... do you have the AppleHDVCodec.component there?

  • Trouble playing HDV .mov

A friend of mine exported a high-definition Quicktime .mov from Final Cut Pro, but whenever I try to open it in Quicktime it says I don't have the proper codec. I can't figure out which one I need though. I have Quicktime Pro (v 7.6) and MPEG-Streamclip. Can anyone help? (These are the details from the Movie Inspector)
    HDV 1080i60, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    FPS: 29.97
(No codec seems to be listed)
    Thanks!

Actually I think you are again just being combative. You asked about the format of the file from the camera and pointed out MTS files open OK. It was neither from the or any camera nor an MTS but an edited FC movie in HDV format and should have been exported to a delivery codec from the edit codec. This question comes up a lot, the raw edited video still in HDV is delvered and the recipient has no HDV codec on their mac to play it back. I am not sure if Streamclip can or not.

  • Playing HDV in quicktime

I have a macbook pro 2.16. I can play and edit video in FCP but when I open a file in quicktime it will not show the video.

Your machine is missing the codec used by Final Cut. The Pro upgrade to QuickTime Player doesn't add any components.
The Movie Inspector window will tell you the codec.

  • Is it possible to play HDV in quicktime pro or iMovie

I'm trying to import HDV video footage from my Hard drive into Imovie. However It will not import, so I have converted the files to AVi, Mpeg-4 and DV but I only get sound with a blank white thumbnail. Can anyone suggest how to do this?

'HDV' is a codec for HD on miniDV, not harddrives..
so, you want to import HD from a harddrive-camcorder into iMovie?
this is supported only by iM08/09.. connect device via usb, goto 'Import from camera'.
if you like to handle HD from a HDDcorder in iM vers5/6, you have to:
    • manually copy files via Finder from cam to Mac
    • convert files to AppleIntermediateCodec, iMHD5/6 internal codec for HD-video
most recommended: Mpeg Streamclip + 20$-mp2-playback-component from apple.com/quicktime..

  • All of a sudden I can not play videos that are sent to me, I had no trouble playing them with quicktime before, what can I do?

I have had this iMac for 5 years and have had zero problems with it , I run the lastest software (not mountain Lion) and all of a sudden I can not play downloaded videos that have been sent to me. What can I do ?

Either launch VLC (assuming you have installed it) and then open the file you want to view from within VLC, or, select the file (don't open) you want to view and do Command+I and from the window that appears select VLC from the 'Open with:' option.
You can make this the default if you wish by also clicking on the 'change all' button.

  • Quicktime having trouble playing animated movies

I have a few movies I downloaded from DC++ that I want to play, but quicktime says it's unable to play them because it's missing software. I have the newest update of QT, and the movies I have trouble playing are only animated ones, such as corpse bride, team america, and final fantasy. Whats up?

If QuickTime can open the files then go to the Window menu and select Show Movie Info to see the Format: for information on what animation codec may have been used, then try to find a suitable QuickTime component for playback... the link below may help with that.

  • Any new solutions to playing HDV files on the PC Quicktime?

Any new solutions to playing HDV files on the PC version of Quicktime Pro?
      Windows XP Pro

It all depends a bit on how & what you backed up, and how you restored it. Select an affected track. Press CTRL-I to Get Info. Click Cancel when asked to locate the file. Look at the location given on the summary tab. Now look through your computer for file in question. What are the two paths? iTunes could be using the wrong layout (pre or post iTunes 9) in error. Or your library could have been split on the previous system, and not restored to preciesly the same path. Posting back the two paths should make things clearer.

  • Trouble playing videos in Safari!

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble playing embedded videos in Safari. I tried scanning some other similar topics and tried what those suggested and can't get it to work. For whatever reason it works fine on YouTube, but on other sites it doesn't. Here's one example:
    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38955.html?type=
I've looked at some sports sites, this, and others, and for whatever reason YouTube is all I get to function properly. I have Perian and flip4mac installed, and I just installed the most recent version of Flash, so I am not sure what the problem is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    Jason

I've had similar problems. I have added embedded .MOV video files in my web pages for years without problems. Recently I've noticed a lot more quicktime questionmark error graphics in webpages with embedded video, including the pages I've made. Previously Safari loaded them correctly. If I open the same pages in Firefox or Opera I don't get the problem, only with Safari. I've kept my safari and quicktime updated. Strange that Safari can't play quicktime compressed with their QT player pro and displayed in their browser, but other software displays them without problem. It is annoying. This happened about the same time that iTunes (on mac, not PC) stopped playing streaming internet radio channels. Any idea how widespread this problem is? If it is common, why are they taking so long to repair the damage?

  • Trouble playing HD and 4K footage at100Mbps

    Hi,
I need help. I have a new GH4 and I have some trouble playing HD and 4K footage at 100Mbps.
I had an older GTX 470 which trouble was more present and now, I bought the new GTX 970. Trouble are still here... It's a bit better on 50Mbps footage with tge new 970 than with the  470.
I run Windows 7 Pro 64 bits on a SSD drive, I got a raid volume for the medias, Intel Xeon X3450, 16Go RAM and the GTX 970 with 4 Go.
Adobe told me it's maybe a problem with the communication between Premiere and the CUDA. It seems to be a known problem but no solutions...
I found this a little bit strange because I have no problem with my EX1R footage at 35Mbps with my older 470 and newer 970...
I don't know what to do... I don"t think that my workstation is older to run this kind of footage...
    Hope you can help me...
    Thanks for all.

  • Trouble playing back videos on my iPod touch

I recently started having trouble playing back video on my iPod touch. I have the most recent versions of iPod software, iTunes, and Quicktime. The video podcasts sync just fine but only play audio...no video. I basically get the first frame of the video and that's it. I have tried restoring the iPod, resetting it, deauthorizing/reauthorizing my iMac (using Leopard), etc. Nothing works. Interestingly, my wife has a nano and she suddenly cannot sync videos even though it was working fine just 2-3 weeks ago. These are basic m4v files that are downloaded from iTunes, so they should work. I believe this started after the last iPod software update but I can't be certain. Is anyone else having this problem?

Try starting video playback under the video section-not the audio section.

  • Trouble playing any videos on Macbook Pro

So 2 months back, my macbook pro is having trouble playing any type of flash videos, from youtube, embedded videos, pretty anything with flash. flash player is up to date, i can surf the internet and do my work flawlessly but as soon as i start a video, the mbp starts to slow down and the video starts getting choppy. Not sure what else to do before giving up and going to the apple store. I've shut it down and restarted it still having issues. any help would be appreciated! Running OS X 10.8.2

I have been having these same problems. Currently, playing YouTube videos in HD, is not viewable, so I have to watch videos in 240p (gross). My thought is that YouTube has shut down some of the servers in order to push some kind of update. My advice, just wait out the storm and see what happens over the next few days. If the issue is still not fixed, I would suggest contacting Google. In the meantime, you could try and reinstall Flash Player, or change browsers, but from my experience, none of that worked.
    Best of luck!
