Trouble playing videos, slow iPod

I have filled my iPod with lots of audio and video podcasts, and music from CDs, and some data, with only 500 MB free memory.
iPod is very slow to respond to the click wheel or other buttons. Sometimes a song does starts to play only in 5 seconds or more, not immediately. This did not happen when the iPod was new (i.e. emptier). This is annoying.
I have more trouble with video. Some videos do not start playing at all, or start only sometimes. Sometimes some video podcasts of the same podcast subscription play, and some do not. I assume all are in the same format.
I have formatted the iPod for Windows to use it sometimes as hard drive on a PC and charging, but iTunes is running on a Mac. I have not reset my iPod for some time.
My guess is that the iPod cannot handle a full hard drive and a big podcast and music library. But it's just a guess.
Any suggestions?
- Mikko

I have the same problem. . . i think.
When i click on the name of the movie on my ipod video, 30 gbs, only the line of how long the movie has played, and a tiny picture of the movie will show up. The same with music videos and that stuff.
But the sound works perfectly.
Thank you!
Leah

  • Trouble Playing Videos in M2TS format - Which Software for 10.5.8???

    Hi There!
Having trouble playing videos that are in m2ts format on my mac osx 10.5.8.
Tried to download some converters from 3rd parties but the general consensus seems to be that my computer is too old for their software.
Can anyone recommend something that will help me to view these videos?
    Kind Regards,
    Novice Boris

I would highly recommend that you download and install the excellent and Free "VLC Player" version from the link below (note- choose the 32 bit version for your OS X 10.5.8 based Mac as also shown below):

  • Trouble Uploading Videos To iPod Nano via iTunes

I am having trouble uploading videos to my new iPod Nano (4th Gen? The new Nano-chromatic one). I have the latest iTunes version (iTunes 8), and have followed all the Help topics related to this problem. When I have converted the video (which i have downloaded to my computer from a DVD I have purchased of the TV Series "Black Books") to the iPod friendly format (following the advice from the iTunes Help section) I then try to 'click and drag' the converted movie file into my iPod under the Devices heading, a window pops up saying:
""BLACK_BOOKS Movie 01" was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod."
This confuses me as all the tech specs about the new iPod nanos say that they are able to play videos. And considering as how I have converted the file to one supposedly supported by the iPod I do not understand why it can't be copied to, and then played by my iPod.
I have followed all the Help sections as suggested and the problem is still NOT resolved.
    Can anyone help?

    I had the same problem.
First you need to download handbrake http://handbrake.fr/?article=download
Then run the file through it, and the output file will work with your chromatic.

  • Trouble playing video in iTunes

I'm having trouble viewing videos in the artwork viewer. They will only open in the center of the screen. I have tried changing the settings under "Edit"--"Preferences"--"Playback," but nothing seems to work.
    Please help!

QuickTime cannot play MPEG-2 files with AC3 audio
    (it's mentioned in the FAQ
). I believe you can use MPEG Streamclip (freeware) to convert the
track, both video and audio, to a format that
QuickTime can import and then export, but I'm not
certain, not having used it to convert any AC3.
Probably someone else here can tell you for sure, or
    suggest an alternative.
What format do you or any one else suggest converting to first that would not lose any quality from the video?

  • Playing videos on ipod photo

I have saved videos on my ipod (60GB) but can not play them ; i tried mp4 and m4v... can anybody help?

The iPod video isn't the only model that can play
    video.
Installing Linux onto an iPod--any iPod--enables it
to play video. The installation will void your
warranty, so you'll probably want to wait until the
    warranty expires.
Hi-Can you tell me where to get the software and what steps are neccessary to upgrade to Linux?
    Thank you!

  • Playing video on ipod

I put a movie in my library then transferred it to my ipod. It shows up in the library and on my ipod. It plays in the library but not on the ipod. Help please

    i have a similar problem...
got a new 120Gig ipod last month... decided to import some of my music videos into itunes so that i can watch them in my pod... some of the mpegs are on CDs i own... some mpegs were free downloads from the artist web sites... mostly old song... the mpgs imported and play in itunes, but i get an error message that they "cannot be played on this ipod"...
i was under the impression the new ipods would play anything that itunes plays... it would seem that these are in some kind of file formats that itunes will play but the ipod doesn't...
are your files "mpeg" extensions or something else?
if we can find the specifics about that the ipod supports, we might figure it out... i didn't see the details in the ipod manual... did a search but didn't find the info yet on apple's web site...
does anyone know where to find the FAQ for the file formats that these new ipods support?
    thanks-

  • Playing Videos on IPOD!!

    Hello
All of a sudden my videos have stopped playing on my ipod. I select the the video (as I would have done normally) and now it just gives me a blank screen then goes back to the menu, any ideas what the problem may be??
Thanks in advance for any help I can get
    Nick

Just had a thought. Would this have something to do with a corrupt file or possibly not up to date ipod software.....
    thanks again

  • Playing video causes iPod to reboot

    Hi there,
Seems as if I'm having a problem with my video playback. I just picked up a 60 gig 5th gen model, and everything has been great. However, attempting to change position on a video track (for instance, moving forward or backwards in a playing video) will sometimes cause the whole iPod to reboot.
So far I've not been able to recreate this on any videos downloaded from iTunes. It seems to only happen on the four .mp4's that I converted from .avi files... anyone have any ideas why this would occur? They are not mono, like those podcasts that had problems.

Since you have completely messed with your computer, you may want to wait for a verry experienced Discussions Member to help you, someone with over 3 bars...
Try being specific on what you have executed on services.msc, your iPod firmware version, and your iTunes firmware version (iPod should be at 1.1.1 for 5G iPod and 6.0.4 for iTunes).
I nominate bnoir, btabz or Masna to answer this a little better after you repost with specific information

  • Trouble putting videos on iPod

I have a 30GB Video iPod, and I recently took some videos with my digi camera and wanted to put them on my iPod so I can watch whenever. The format is a format iTunes recognizes (.MOV format...and it opens with Quicktime). I have it in my movie list on iTunes, and I can click on it, and it will play fine. But as soon as I go to sync all the songs and the videos to my iPod I get this message:
"Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "Sonny being tested with a stick and plastic bag", were not copied to the iPod....because they cannot be played by this iPod."
How come I can play it in iTunes, but it says I can't play it on my iPod? How can I make it so I can play it on my iPod? Thanks!!!!!

I have the same problems with you.
    Same 30GB 5G iPod.
So if you are familar with the iPod supported formats, you will know clearly about this.
And I just put the *+Pavtube Video Converter+* converted H.264 mp4 format to my iPod.
Same message with you "can't play video on the iPod.

  • What causes my IMac (OS X 10.8.3) to have trouble playing VIdeo?

I am unable to play any internet video without many stops which may or may not resume. I have used ONYX to clean the drive but it made little if any difference. It is not my wifi connection since I have no trouble with video on my IPad or my TV. Any suggestions as to causes for thiis?  It has been doing this for some time but i has become in tolerable. now.

Mike thank you very much even though I did not change the channel at least I don't think I did. I did thou got to airport extreme. I knew nothing about it and had not looked at it since I installed it years ago. First I found I had to upgrade airport extreme which I did. But when I finished and everything came back on, I didn't have a green light; so a little more reading indicated  I had to upgrade the airport utility which I did. I got the green light that my wifi was working and have been playing a video for the last 25 minutes. Mike this has been driving this octageneran crazy for a couple of months so I really am indebted to you,

  • Trouble playing videos in Safari!

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble playing embedded videos in Safari. I tried scanning some other similar topics and tried what those suggested and can't get it to work. For whatever reason it works fine on YouTube, but on other sites it doesn't. Here's one example:
    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38955.html?type=
I've looked at some sports sites, this, and others, and for whatever reason YouTube is all I get to function properly. I have Perian and flip4mac installed, and I just installed the most recent version of Flash, so I am not sure what the problem is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    Jason

I've had similar problems. I have added embedded .MOV video files in my web pages for years without problems. Recently I've noticed a lot more quicktime questionmark error graphics in webpages with embedded video, including the pages I've made. Previously Safari loaded them correctly. If I open the same pages in Firefox or Opera I don't get the problem, only with Safari. I've kept my safari and quicktime updated. Strange that Safari can't play quicktime compressed with their QT player pro and displayed in their browser, but other software displays them without problem. It is annoying. This happened about the same time that iTunes (on mac, not PC) stopped playing streaming internet radio channels. Any idea how widespread this problem is? If it is common, why are they taking so long to repair the damage?

  • ITunes won't allow me to play video on iPod, help?

I'm trying to get a video on my iPod but it's not allowing me, it says it can't be copied because it won't play on my iPod, despite it playing just fine on iTunes itself. I'd really appreciate the help. The video file is mp4.

iTunes can play many different types of mpeg-4 videos that are not compatible with the iPod. iTunes can playback 720p and 1080p mpeg-4 AVC baseline 1.4 videos that can't even be played using AppleTV (or the iPod). So iTunes compatibility doesn't always mean iPod compatibility.
However, you can convert it in iTunes to ipod compatibility.
Highlight the movie in itunes, go to menu ADVANCED and select "Create iPod or iPhone version".
