Trouble Re-installing Panther

Hi
My girlfriend recently bought herself a new MacBook to replace her old, slow an increasingly uncooperative iBook. Having copied across all of her User details, I decided that it would be worth completely erasing it and reinstalling the OS to see if it would make it a bit more sprightly. However, we've lost the original install discs for the iBook so I was hoping to be able to run the install from a commercial copy of Panther I bought a while ago for my old PowerMac I no longer use. However, the iBook refuses to boot from the install CD, it just sits there with the grey Apple logo, doing nothing.
The only reason I can think for this happening is because the iBook already has 10.3.9 installed on it when the disc only has 10.3.2. Any help you can give me would be great.
*iBook vital statistics: iBook G4 1.2 GHz, 512MB RAM, OS X 10.3.9*
I should note that this iBook is responsible for two out of four unresolved questions on these forums, so I don't hold a **** of a lot of hope.

It's not that it was upgraded to Panther 10.3.9, but the pre-installed system was higher than 10.3.2.
Info here Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer.
The iBook G4/1.2 14-Inch (Early 2004 - Op), had Panther 10.3.3 pre-installed.
And the Apple iBook G4/1.2 12-Inch (Late 2004 - Op), had Panther 10.3.5 pre-installed.
If you call Apple Customer Service 1-800-767-2775, provide the specifications of the iBook, you can order a set of replacement system discs, for a fee.
