Trouble re-installing VPC 7 onto OS 10.4.6

Hi,
I recently had to take an otherwise perfectly functioning iMac G5, erase the hard drive and re-install Tiger 10.4.2 and then update to 10.4.6 & that all went fine. Prior to that I was using Panther (10.something) Of course the copy of VPC 7 was erased, which is sort of no big deal since I hardly ever used it anyway, and no files to save. However, when I tried to re-install VPC I learned that I had to upgrade to VPC 7.02. Now I cannot install anything.
I tried to first install VPC 7, got thru the first step, restarted as directed & got messages about security settings & virtual switch networking not working, etc. I know those are supposed to be fixed with the update. I then got as far in the 2nd step to where I gave the product key (for VPC 7) and the Continue button never turns color and I cannot proceed. (I have checked the numbers)
I tried to un-install VPC 7 and although it seems to have done so properly, I get a message that the uninstall.app quit unexpectedly. I then tried to install the update VPC 7.0.2 first, that was successful, however it is apparenly removed and replaced by any further attempts to install VPC 7 after.
So I see some of these issues are known to Microsoft and Apple, but the problem is, how do I re-install VPC 7 and if I cannot do that how can I install the update? F8undamentally, after I type in the product key the process sill go no further. Help, thanx.

Hi Dr. Spock,
Perhaps a Vulcan Nerve Pinch will subdue that misbehaving iMac..just kidding. What about re-installing 10.4.2 and then try installing VCP before going through the upgrade path for Tiger? Maybe that will at least allow you to complete the install of VCP in order to update it properly.

  • Trouble re-installing OS X onto used iMac (late 2012)

I just received a late-2012 used iMac that has been "wiped clean". I've been trying to re-install OS X onto it with no luck so far. Since there is currently no version of OS X on it, the "OS X Utilities" window automatically comes up after turning on the computer. When I click on "Re-install OS X" (one of the four options) it automatically takes me to an OS X Mavericks set-up screen. After going through that it tells me that "This item is temporarily unavailable". I've gone online to try to find any other version or avenue to get what I need but haven't found anything yet. Safari is unable to read any pages from the MacApp Store so I can't download any versions of OS X from there. Also, I keep getting these random prompts from Safari wanting a login keychain password. I think the old password has been erased. The previous owner gave me the password she had been using and it does not work anymore. If I click "ok" or "cancel" without entering a password, the computer freezes up and I have to restart it. Anybody know what the deal is? Thanks!

Sounds like the previous owner did not wipe the system clean,  that it is asking for a login keychain password is suspect.
I would try erasing  and reformatting the disk with Disk Utility (one of the other options in Recovery mode) and see if that helps. You can also try using Internet Recovery (hold option-command-R) you should see a spinning globe as that option starts.
The previous owner should have reinstalled the original OS on the system after wiping it. You still may have problems once you get the OS installed if this was not done.
    regards

  • I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)?

I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)? It does not have a CD drive.

If all else fails, try this.  i used to do it all the time before. might or might not work with the new office.
if you have access to another computer with a cd/dvd rom, copy the entire contents of the cd on a thumb drive.
insert the thumb drive in your MB and do the install from there.
However, if you have the newer version of MS Office, Bandit's suggestion is much better.

  • Trying to Install Windows 7 onto MBP Mid-2010 but I get this "No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key". What do I do?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro Mid-2010 (MacBookPro6,2) from a USB drive, since my Super Drive no longer will burn DVDs or CDs. I did the XCODE trick to allow me to make the bootable USB. But when it reboots after partitioning I get this, "No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key" message. When I press a key after reinserting the USB it still won't boot after pressing a key. I unplugged anything connected to it and it still doesn't work. Is there any way I can get it to be recongized or do I just need to get an external disc drive and burn a disc that way?

If your computer came with an inetrnal optical drive, you must use that to install Windows.

  • How to install Snow Leopard onto external hard drive.

I'm currently running on 10.5.8, and I just bought the Snow Leopard installation disc to update to 10.6.3.
My mac has been running on an external hard drive for about a year. The internal just stopped working.
I want to  install Snow Leopard onto my external hard drive, but all of my files are on there, and I read that if I do the install, all of the data will be erased.
If I used time machine to back up the files before I do the install, are they at risk of being erased, since they will be back-uped on the external?
This is probably super obvious, but I want to be very careful with this.
Any help is very much appreciated!
    ^__^

    1. The data won't be erased unless a problem occurs.
    2. The Time Machine backup should be on a different drive, as drives can fail.

  • Installing Mountain Lion onto an external hard Drive

    Hi
I am running snow Leoprd and what to keep this as my main OS on my internal HD due to work, I want to install Mountain Lion onto an external Hard Drive and boot and run from an external HD as opposed to my internal
I will be likely to be using a thunderbolt connection for the external HD
Has anyone had any experience with this and any tip or faults?
I will be using Logic mainly]

Works just like installing on an internal drive. Just be sure to choose the correct target before clicking on the Install button.
If you have sufficient space on your internal hard drive you could also make a partition on it in which to install Mountain Lion. This will be faster and more convenient that an external drive.

  • Can't install OS X onto external firewire

    Hello all,
I have a strange issue going on and apple care won't support it because I am booting an external drive. I have an older ibook and a macbook pro. I have an external drive that has one partition with OS X on it, and another partition for backing up disk images to. I boot up into the OS X on the external drive to make image backups of my Mac HD onto the other partition of the external using superduper.
Here's my problem, I can do this perfectly with the ibook....but not the macbook. When I boot the computer holding down the option key it doesn't even show the external drive as an option as a startup disk. I though maybe because I installed the OS X on the drive using the ibook and an older retail Tiger disk, I should try to reinstall using the macbook's restore disk and do it through the macbook...just in case. When I startup with the install disk, it says that I cannot install OS X onto the external drive.
I am using a lacie drive here. I have created bootable backups using superduper on this drive, and successfully booted the drive many times in the past. So I know it is not that the drive is not bootable, but I don't know what else could be causing this.
Any ideas on this one? I'm getting frustrated, and I'm sure I am just overlooking something here!
    From a friend in need!

    Welcome to the Forums!
What you are overlooking is that PPC-based computers like your iBook and Intel-based computers like the MacBook Pro require different partition schemes for their boot disks. Your external HDD is formatted properly for PPC booting (Apple Partition Scheme), and thus your Intel Mac, which requires a GUID partition to boot from, cannot boot from it.
There is a way to configure your HDD to boot both types of Macs, but it's a bit complex. Instructions can be found here:

  • Help require with installing Adobe Acrobat onto my Macbook Pro Retina.

Help require with installing Adobe Acrobat onto my Macbook Pro Retina.
I have successfully installed all of my creative cloud apps with the exception being acrobat.
I cannot print from Indesign to PDF.
I have unistalled, reinstalled and still no Adobe Acrobat.
I now have to go back to Windows 8 and create the PDF's there.
Any one know how to get around this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Kelvin

OSX has effectively killed the ability to print to pdf, (print to pdf eliminates most of the "Rich features" of current pdf).
Export from InDesign, always, excpet for the 1% of the time where you know why print to pdf would produce a better result.

  • Problem installing Solaris 10 onto CP1500

I'm trying to install Solaris 10 11/06 onto a CP1500 (UlraSparc-IIi, 440MHZ, 1GB RAM, OpenBoot 3.10.24, using a PS/2 Keyboard). The install CD boots up, but soon after the initial boot (after it displays copyright information but before the installer starts) it goes into a state where it syncs the file system, then reboots. If set to boot from the CD-ROM, it just goes through this process in an continuous loop: boot, cut to file system sync, reboot, cut to file system sync, reboot, wash, rinse, repeat to infinity. The acutal file system sync happens in the blink of an eye. I don't believe that this has anything to do with the state of the hard disk, as it does this even when the hard disk is disconnected from the SCSI bus.
I'm installing from an IDE CD-ROM drive that is connected to the SCSI bus using an adapter. I've sucessfully installed Solaris 8 onto this system, but alas, I need Solaris 10.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I downloaded the latest version of Solaris 10, and that solved the problem of the continual reboots. Now the keyboard doesn't work, but that's a different problem.
