Trouble re-opening InDesign a second time

Hello.  I'm having trouble getting InDesign to open on my laptop.  Windows 8.1, HP Envy dv6 laptop.  When I start the laptop and open Indesign is works fine.  If I close Indesign and try to reopen it it just hangs at the Indesign Logo and says "Loading the Application...".  I have to restart my computer to get it to open again.  I deleted my preferences one time before but that didn't fix it.  Thanks for any help.
David

I believe there is a bug or something that is not allowing InDesign to completely shut down when I quit the application. I have upgraded to the latest InDesign CC 2014 and EVERY time I close the application, I have to delete the cache (or restart Windows) before reopening it, or it will hang on "Loading the application" on the splash screen. I've also noticed that whatever files I've opened in the application are locked against renaming or deleting until I delete the InDesign cache or restart the computer. Several preferences that you have to set and close ID to lock never lock. For example, I always get the start up screen for "What's New," and I've always clicked the option to not show it again, but it always reappears when I open InDesign.
InDesign CC 2014.1 Release (10.1.0.70 x64 Build) on Windows 8.1. Teacup Barcode Maker is the only installed plugin.

  • Scroller not appearing in the popup when opened for the second time

    Hi,
I have a popup window which has three tabs A, B, and C. My tab A has BorderContainer > Scroller > Vgroup
When opened for the first time, I can see the scroller. But , when opened for the second time, the scroller does not appear and the content in th Border container seems truncated.
    Please help.

No answers, but I may be seeing something similar.
I'm converting a project from Flex 3 to 4. In a popup (Spark TitleWindow) I have a some TabNavigators. On subsequent openings of the popup, the contents of the navigator children don't always render. After some changing of various Halo components to their Spark equivalents, I thought the problem had gone away. But the problem seems to have come back.
In my case, I'm not sure if the "subsequent opening" is the key issue. Sometimes, the contents of nested TabNaviagtor children don't render on the first opening. although the first child content always renders. But the problem seems to increase in subsequent openings. (I.e. more children of TabNavigators don't render.)
Perhaps not connected, but I notice when this happens, the outside borders of dataGrid components don't render in components outside of TabNavigators. I suspect there's a simple thing I need to to do to fix this, but I haven't found it. Any hints or insights would be welcomed.

I have continuous problems with my iPad Mini, and it is getting worse!  Newstand application keep pausing or crashing, websites keep hanging first time in but then open fine the second time, and I have problems with applictions crashing.  Has anyone experienced similar problems and any suggestions?

Has the device always behaved this way? Did this start as a result of an update to the iOS software? If the problem is that bad, you should probably restore the iOS software and then restore from a backup. If that fails, restore as new and rebuild the device. If that fails, it's time for a trip to an Apple Store to let them have a look at the iPad.

  • Itunes can't open right the second time

So I open my itunes after rebooting and everything is fine. I close it but when I want to re-open it, nothing happens. I have to launch the task manager to stop Itunes working (even if it's not open) and then I open it and it freezes.
So I got to reboot each time I use Itunes once.
I reinstall Itunes a lot of times and no changes.
Maybe I downloaded some program, uninstalled it and then I have this problem with my Itunes.
    What can I do ?

I installed a product like changing mp3 into another music extension. I uninstalled it and maybee Itunes when into conflict with that so I can't reopen it a second time. Please help!

  • Trouble With Opening InDesign and now Photoshop and Illustrator

First off I apologize if this isn't in the correct section. I couldn't find a section specific to my problem since it involves multiple aspects of Adobe products. I was having trouble with InDesign, it kept crashing. So I followed all of the advice I could find on the forums about deleting the preferences and cache information in the Library folder, and that didn't seem to make a difference. So then I thought maybe it needed an update, so I logged into Adobe Application Manager and sure enough, it did. So I clicked on "download" and it stalled there too. Then the manager became unresponsive. I couldn't cancel the update or log out or anything. So then I saw in the forum someone suggested the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool if your manager becomes unresponsive. I ran that and then shut my computer off. When I turned it back on, InDesign started working BUT my Photoshop is completely gone from my system (I never messed with it in the first place since I wasn't having any trouble with it.) And the when I tried to click on Illustrator it said "Do you want to begin your trial?" Huh?
I have had a subscription since 2012, why on earth would it suddenly think that I no longer should have access to these programs? If I log on to my Adobe account it shows my subscription and that it's up to date (last payment was April 5, 2015). The versions I was using were the CS versions that I had downloaded directly from Adobe and when I used to have any trouble or when I got a different computer I could just log into my account and then redownload them. They are no longer showing under my products, so I can't figure out what on earth is going on. The website has changed since the last time I downloaded them, so that partly could be me, but I thought they would at least be showing up under products. I contacted Adobe support and the first person I talked to on chat said "this is clearly a technical issue I am transferring you to someone better suited for this," but that's all he said. And I haven't heard from anyone since so I thought I'd make a topic and see if anyone else out there has had a similar problem.

The versions I am using are the CS6 versions.*

  • Second monitor only shows when I  open PPRO a second time.

    CS5 WIN7 - 64 Pro
Looking for a suggestion /solution  to an issue I have had for some while.
I have the latest Nvidia Drivers for QuadroFX3800 but the issue began at least two previous versions ago.
I open PPRO and it does not see the second monitor. It is not an option in the Playback settings.  (Not even there / Not greyed out)
In fact it shows an image briefly (flashes on then off) on the second monitor  then turns it off (ie. the image going to it from the source monitor.)
I shut out of PPRO and re open it almost immediately.  Bingo.  2nd monitor shows and its is also an option in the PB menu.

I think I'm right in sayng that Mosaic has been added to the latest driver, 267.05 - the ability to stretch the desktop across 2 monitors.  I haven't been aware of it before.
I say that because, having toyed with Mosiac,  I noticed that PP CS5 did flicker a few times upon boot in a way that it didn't on earlier nVidia releases.
It seems to have settled down now.
Am I not right in thinking, shoternz, that you are using the 2nd monitor as your preview, rather than program monitor?  Maybe there's a corrolation.

  • ERROR message when trying to open InDesign for first time

I just installed InDesign yesterday (trial).  I can't open it.  I keep getting the Error message: Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign.
I have done what others have recommended online (in these forums): change the permissions of the Indesign folder in the Library - but no success. I've uninstalled and reinstalled.  I'm doing the Trial but with all of these glitches and the lack of direct support of how to solve this issue, it looks though I won't buy the full version.  Please help!!

if win, right click your id exe and click 'run as administrator'.
if that fails, reset your perferences by holding down shift-ctrl-alt (win) or shift-cmd-alt (mac) while starting id.  if done correctly you'll see a confirmation dialog.

  • I cannot open itunes a second time after closing the program.

After I close Itunes on my PC running Windodos XP Pro, I cannot open the program again without logging off the computer, an when I try to log off, the computer tells me that Itunes is still running.

I've never rented a movie from iTunes (ever) and when I look at Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End I have only a "buy" option. Nothing to rent.

  • Elements 10 won't open a second time

    Hi,
    I am running on the Windows 7 platform - 64bit system - 4GB Ram - 488GB free disk space.
When I first start up Elements 10 it opens fine. If I close the program and then go back it will not open up a second time from ether the desktop or the exe file in the program file.
If I re-boot, it performs in exactly the same way as above. If I go directly a photo and say open up with Photoshop this works fine.
Has anyone had this problem? if so can you please help.
    Regards

If it's leaving a zombie process, that's not part of the application's programming. It certainly never happens on my computer. Plus, the Welcome screen itself is a separate executable, even if it is itself left open, this will not prevent the Editor or Organizer from launching.
Far be it for me to accuse Adobe of intentionally creating zombies!
However, here on Win7 x64, running in a standard user account, when the Editor or Organizer is launched from the Unwelcome Screen there is often (not always) a zombie process left running.  It can be seen in the Task Manager's "Processes" tab, and killing that process allows the Editor or Organizer to be launched again.
    Brett N wrote:
However, if we are encountering an issue here with permissions, it could be a result of launching the Editor/Organizer (by the way is it one, the other, or both?) because the system, for whatever reason, requires hightened permissions that are not granted when one application launches another.
I'll leave it to the product development team to determine whether or not it's a permissions issue.  I use the recommended Best Practices for computing -- only running by logging in as a standard user account.  My opinion is that except for specialized system maintenance software (and installation procedures) no software should require running as an administrator.
    Brett N wrote:
But the OP does mention that even launching from the executable, not just the desktop shortcut, exhibits the same behavior.
That is consistent with the effects of the zombie process.

  • I saved my Form Central spreadsheet file once as a excel file but it will not allow me to save it a second time as an excel file.  It says that I cannot complete this action because the file me be open in another application, but it is not open in another

I saved my Form Central spreadsheet file once as a excel file but Forms Central will not allow me to save the file a second time as an excel file.  I am informed that I cannot complete this action because the file me be open in another application, but it is not open in another application. What is the problem, and how do I solve the problem.  Thank you. Jeff

First check the version of the document with Jongware's script "Identify.jsx" (ExtendScript/JavaScript).
    You can find it here:
    [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File
If it is CS 5.5 or above, you need someone to open it in the version the script says and export an IDML representation from that. Another way would be to install a 30days version of CS6 or above (CC) and do it yourself.
In regards of the script showing a result for InDesign files higher than CS6:
    CS7 = CC v9
    CS8 = CC v10 = CC-2014 or CC2014.1

  • Distiller will suddenly close/crash the *SECOND* time I open a file for converting to PDF.

The subject heading says it all: Distiller will suddenly close/crash the *SECOND* time I open a file for converting to PDF.
But I think I have a clue why this is happening. Typically, I use Distiller to convert EPS or PS files into PDFs. Also, almost without fail, I embed the required fonts (exclusively Type 1) directly into the EPS/PS files (using the required PFA format) so no local fonts on my computer are needed to be looked for by Distiller to be embedded in the resulting PDF; they're already in the EPS/PS files.
But yesterday, I attempted to convert some EPS/PS files to PDFs using Distiller in which I had NOT embedded the Type 1 fonts (in PFA format, of course) in the source EPS/PS files. The first such conversion would work (in which I select "Open" and choose an EPS/PS file for conversion), but after that initial conversion, the *SECOND* time I clicked on "Open" (open file), Distiller would immediately close/crash.
I then searched the web for answers, and discovered some people were having trouble getting Distiller to initialize if any of their computer system fonts were read-only. So, I went back to my EPS/PS files and embedded the required Type 1 (PFA format) fonts into them, and then—magically—Distiller worked without a hitch: I could open and convert any number of them in succession, with Distiller never closing/crashing.
So, I concluded the reason that Distiller had been crashing upon the second attempted opening of a file (again, simply by pressing the "open" button to search for a file to convert, *not* after selecting a file) must have had something to do with Distiller scanning my computer's installed fonts when there was no embedded PFA font to reference, and a read-only font on my system was causing the problem. However, I looked in the two logical places where my fonts should be located (c:\psfonts and c:\windows\fonts), but found *no* font files' attributes set to "read-only" So, I'm stumped.
I'm using Distiller Pro 10.1.1316 (acrodist.exe) on a Win 8.1 machine. I've found similar posts, going back to 2004, about Distiller immediately crashing after opening when some fonts are read-only; I haven't yet found a post about anyone successfully using Distiller to convert one EPS or PS file to PDF, and then having the program crash when the "Open" button is pressed subsequently. Any clues, anyone?

Never heard about the crash and that does not sound normal. Be sure to do the updates to Acrobat in case that resolves the issue. You might also check the font settings in the settings file and check to ignore the error if the font can not be embedded and Distiller should use what it considers to be the closest system font.

  • InDesign crashes every time you double click to open an .indd file on Windows system

InDesign crashes every single time you double click to open an InDesign file and has done so since replacement of the original version of InDesign introduced in the Creative Cloud launch.  Does anyone else have this problem?  I'd say it was unique to my system if I hadn't experienced the issue repeatedly on several different systems now.  You have to relaunch InDesign which then opens the file from recovery, so it saw the file you tried to launch in the first place.  This leads me to believe the problem lies with the file association registry of InDesign inside Windows systems.  I find it unbelievable that this problem still exists and remains unreported and that a solution hasn't been implemented by Adobe to rectify the issue.
The double click is a fundamental tenant of opening files on a Windows system in the same way a single click is on a Mac.  Does InDesign crash ever time a Mac user clicks to open their files, I think not.
Anyone got any ideas other than the obvious which is Adobe actually got their figure out and fixed it.
    Cheers,
    Pat Doyle

    Hi Michael,
I'll give it a go.  Don't really like messing with the registry on Windows boxes.  Yes you can do it, but it can end up being a case of the operation was a success, but the patient died.
Just was rather hoping someone else had already experienced this problem and posted the registry tweak.  Didn't want spend hours reinventing the wheel.  Not because I'm lazy, but I have so many demands on my time that resolving a minor issue that effects me only seems like it should be pretty low priority.
The system I'm using is brand new, but the problem seems to have followed me regardless which may indicate that it is seated in my synchronization information somehow.  Really don't know how that could happen as I'm not an Adobe engineer or have the remotest idea where to even start looking.  So I think I'll mark your suggestion as the "Answer" and just learn to live with it.
Windows eh! Can't live with - can't live without it.  I'm sure Mac can be just as temperamental. Just have to chalk this one up as being just another ghost in the machine.
Thanks for all the advice you have kindly offered, much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Pat Doyle
