Trouble removing the screws

I have a "new" (Open Box) Mac Mini 2.0 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo that I bought through PowerMax. I want to upgrade the RAM, and I'm having trouble removing the four screws around the base of the inner chassis. I'm using a Phillips-head PH-00 screwdriver. Last night, I was able to get three of the screws out, but couldn't get the last one. I gave up and just put the computer back together. I'm trying again tonight, and I'm having the same problem. Am I missing something? Is there a preferred order for removing the screws or something? The screws giving me the most problem just won't come out. No matter how long I turn, they just won't move. It feels like the screwdriver has good placement, and I can feel something moving. I've watched several videos online of this procedure, and it seems like most people can just pop them right out. Any advice?

I was watching a video on some web site, and some of the screws in a mac book pro have a magnent holding it very very tightly! Perhaps that will solve your problem!

  • TS3212 I am told that the ITunes will not download because it is having trouble removing the older version bonjour. What do I need to do?

I am trying to sync my new IPhone 4 with ITunes. I have tried downloading the new version of ITunes on my pc like it told me to do but it stops in the middle of downloading and says that it is having trouble removing the old bonjour. It said I should contact support. What do I need to do?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time?

  • Removing the screws on HD

i have an extra HD which i plan to put non important files on and i am wondering for those who removed the original HD, do you know what type of screws are on top of the HD (i plan on removing the top case so i can see what happens)?

    Mike,
Wait, I am confused (sorry if I'm causing any problems) so you want to take the hard drive itself apart; not off the iBook, correct? I don't see a reason behind it except to see what's inside, but if you want to see what's inside, you can just look at this from Wikipedia.
Dust free environment; do you have the suit and the computer controlled room?
There is no set time limit on the Apple HD's. I mean I have a computer that was made 20 years ago; and the hard drive has never been replaced or anything like that. I also have had an iBook where the hard drive died after 5 years.
Maybe you could explain why you need to take the plate off the hard drive a little. I'm not seeing it.

  • Trouble removing screws on Powerbook...What helps?

I'm having trouble removing the screws on both of the sides of the powerbook:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G4-Al-12-Inch-867-MHz/Metal-Framework/ 53/15/Page-4#top
They're very tight and nothing seems to help.
What can I use or do?

    J.F.
These screws are very stubborn. You need to be very careful not to damage the head of the screw. I did that the other day and was fortunate that I had it out a bit and my son-in-law, who has a steadier hand than I, used a thin cutting disk on a dremel tool to make it a slotted screw. So, what can you do? You could try a tiny drop of WD40 or penetrating oil, and give it time to penetrate. If you can't get it, take it to the Genius Bar and get some help.

  • Lenovo Flex 2 14: How to remove the compartment cover?

I've got the new Lenovo Flex 2 14 with a 500 gb HHD. Now I want to upgrade to a ssd.
The problem is that the hardware maintenance manual does not specify how to remove the compartment cover in case of the flex 2 14, which has no optical drive like the flex 2 15.
I removed the screws that secure the compartment cover, but there is no way to remove the cover. Does anyone had the same problem and found a solution?
I'd be very grateful for any tips!

    hi gi_homer,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Your issue might be similar to this thread.
In addition to the screws around the compartment cover, have you also removed the screws underneath the keyboard?

  • Computer Shuts Down After Removing All Screws and Putting Them Back

On the bottom of the laptop I removed most of the screws including the screws that allow you to remove the keyboard and most of the other screws too on the bottom. Why you may ask, no reason, just did it. I never had this problem ever until removed the screws and putting them back.
The computer only shuts down when the power cord is plugged in. Running off of the battery only I never have this problem.
Please note I have verified the following:
The computer only shuts down at random times only when the Power Cord is plugged into the computer and this never happened before until I removed the screws and put them back in.
I have tested with more than one thinkpad power cord to make sure
Tested with battery in the computer and removed from computer
My thought is maybe I missed putting in a screw on the bottom or maybe there is a ground screw I did not put in. Could my machine have an issue with not being grounded? I am not an electrician but who knows. Could there be something in the motherboard that a screw is missing in therer and not allowing grounding or other?
    thanks

You should go get the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your unit and verify that it is properly assembled.

    3. Place right thumb at the bottom of case so that the top of the thumb can press the button but bottom of thumb will push very bottom of case down.
    4. with both thumbs working together push down and up with right thumb and up with left thumb.
Case SHOULD click open, if the button has moved up inside the back case the plastic springs have bent or broken and the unit needs to go into a CNSP.

Hi, I just tried doing what you suggest but am not quite sure what groove you mean in respect of the groove that comes from the camera. From the side this phone looks like it is three layers and I am not sure which bit/s are supposed to slide anyway now. My button is now half pushed underneath the back of the 'back' but is still sort of moving up and down if pressed on, but I just cannot budge the back or what I think is the back in any way whatsoever. My thumb is short and I cannot push the button down and push the back with the same thumb! Unfortunately taking the phone to a shop is not an option and I need the phone for business for Monday. I am scared of breaking it by using force. Someone has mentioned a knack and a way of getting it off but has not said how apart from yourself.Message Edited by binarycape on 03-Mar-2007

  • How to remove the heatsink on the NX6800?

Hi, I'm trying to remove the heatsink on my NX6800 (non-ultra). I have the copper heatsink, not the newer, noisier one that I've seen some people complain about here. I've removed all the screws on the back of the card, but the cover seems to stick as firmly as it did before I removed the screws. There are still four screws in the center of the card, but they're on the front side of the card, under the heatsink (I only see them come through on the back side), so I don't see how I can get to them before I remove the heatsink. What should I do next? I don't see anything more that I could unscrew to get the cover off, and yet the cover sticks to the card as if there were screws holding it in place. Please help me if you have any experience with these heatsinks.
By the way, I did search the forum before I posted this, and found a somewhat similar thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=71416.0 . The poster in this thread, however, said that he'd removed "all the screws"; I don't know whether that means that he'd also removed the four screws I mention above, which would mean that he'd already gotten further than I have (and thus the advice he got wouldn't necessarily apply to my situation.)

    Hi,
Crull (one of the best posters here IMO ) had this reply in another thread:
"Could also be double sided thermal tape. If this a retail or OEM video card I also doubt they would use thermal epoxy.
It most likely is thermal tape or compound.
If twisting doesn't seem to be working. You can try this. You want to take a flat flat head screw driver and wrap the end tightly a few times with a small piece of printer paper. That will protect the board, you want to slide the screwdriver end with the paper under a corner of the heatsink where there are "NO COMPONENTS" and gently pry the corner up with the screwdriver by a lever or twisting action . If it's thermal tape it should lift the heatsink. Once you get one corner up move the screwdriver all around the heatsink to pry the rest off.
If your worried about damage from the screw driver, you can take an old cd and break it so you have a small piece to place under the screw driver to protect the board.
If it is epoxy for sure the freezer method might work. Put the card in a sealed plastic bag and then put it in the freezer overnight. Then try removing the heatsink by twisting gently. I wouldn't use the card until it warms back up close to room temperature. It might be too much of a shock to some components on the card."
Good Luck and proceed at your own risk.

  • How do I remove the stand from my 24' intel imac model ( A1225)

Hello, I am moving my imac 24' from Europe to the states in my baggage. The stand mustbe removed to fit it in. Some models allow a business card or credit card to insert in the lever of the stand and the back of the imac housing where the stand is attached to. Thus oin pulling the stand levekl down with the acard inserted you will see a few srerws to unscrew to removing the stand. This is not with this imac 24' intel model number (A1225)
Are there any tips or help that one knows to removing the stand?
    Thanks..

==> Removing the 2007 24" iMac aluminum stand
==> Removing a VESA mount and replacing the aluminum stand
I recently inherited a 2007 24" iMac that had been VESA mounted.  I searched all the online boards to figure out how to remove the VESA bracket and install the aluminum stand that I bought on Ebay.  Despite 6 years since the iMac was made, I really didn't feel the online posts gave a clear answer, so I felt compelled to give my input.
First, the 'latch' mechanism that locks and unlocks the stand/VESA mount is RIGHT next to the top of the slot -- it's about 1/16" into the casing and shaped like a shallow L-shaped ledge that extends most of the length of the slot.  Here's a very effective way to hit it:
    * uninstalling stand;  put the computer on a bed at the edge; push the stand downward, somewhat hard, then slip a business card into the top of the slot, slanted 45 degrees upward.  do not push the business card hard at all.  it will hit the ledge/lever quickly.  leave it there.  now, insert a drivers license or credit card ON TOP of the business card, so it hits same ledge/lever but with more strength.  push a bit and start wiggling the stand.  the latch will release and you can now push the stand down to lock in the extended position, then remove the screws, install the VESA
    * uninstalling VESA:  the stand mechanism is already in the LOCKED/out position.  I spent about an hour trying to get it to lock into the extended position.  wrong.  it's already extended.  once you remove the VESA, install your stand, then follow the above guidance to unlock that mechanism and get your computer back upright.
There are a lot of threads on this topic.  I hope this helps some.  My main insights are two;  1) the latch/ledge is very close to the top of the slot, and 2) that ledge can be caught fairly easily by pushing the stand down and using a flexible cardboard business card, then superimposing a harder plastic card on top while you wiggle the stand.

  • Ho do I remove the screen from my Equium U400?

My Equium U400 requires the screen removing as I need to replace the broken ribbon. I can get the frame around the screen loose but the bottom part of the frame seems to stick due to the hinges. I have tried to remove the screws on the bottom side of the laptop underneath the hinges, this appears to loosen them but it the screen will not easily come away. I don't want to force it and risk breaking so thought I'd ask for some advice.
    Any ideas?

    Hi mate
The notebook disassembling is always tricky _and if you have no experience you should ask someone for a help._
On Toshiba pages you will not find any manuals which could be helpful to disassemble the notebook it seems that such manuals are not for public usage but just for ASP people.
You will have to search in the internet for helpful pages.
I found a page irisvista.com there are many useful pictures and instructions

  • Removing the case

This may sound like a stupid question, but I just bought a memory card for the BlackBerry 8300. And I've been trying to get the case off of the phone the past 15-20 minutes with no sucess. Has anyone else had any trouble removing the case? Any tips?

The case, you mean the rear door or the battery door?
On the 83xx model, just press the small silver tab towards teh bottom of the door with your fingernail and move the door upwards to remove.

  • I can't get the screws out of the bottom case, which I need to do to access the memory modules.  Can I 'force' it open??

    Can anyone help?

Are you having trouble with the screws because you don't have the right screwdriver, or because you do have the right screwdriver but they're too tight to turn? Or another problem? Trying to understand exactly what the problem with the screws is.
I've taken the bottom off and it was pretty easy, with the correct size screwdriver.
You could force open the bottom, but you'd guarantee that you'd never get it back on, and that would be a bad way to use a laptop.

  • Remove the Hard drive (PowerMac G4)

i have a PowerMac G4 witha 10G HD and bought two 80G HD. how do I take out the existing HD.
    Art
is there a web site that shows pic on how to?
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Its rather simple. Unplug the IDE cables that connect the drives to the logicboard, then remove the screw that keeps the drive bay secured to the frame. Lift the drive bay towards you, away from the frame and remove the power cable from the drive. Then mount the drives into the drive bay (I'm assuming your machine has a dual drive bay) and use mounting srews to mount the new drives. Connect the power cables, slide the drive bay back into place, then reinsert the screw that secures the bay to the frame. Attach the IDE cables, and you are good to go.
One thing to keep in mind, make sure your boot drive is set to master (most drives show you where to place the jumper to do this) and that the other is setup as slave.
