Trouble Replicating Old Mail Settings on New Computer

Hello All,
I have just upgraded notebooks and have run into a problem with my Apple Mail. On my old notebook, I had my mail set up with two accounts as well as some mailbox folders. I looked up on the forums in regards to transferring data and did so successfully via the library/mail and library/preferences route.
My primary gmail account is acting a little fishy though on my new notebook. It has yet to upload any emails from the gmail server except for when I email myself from either the new computer, or my iPhone. I had both notebooks opened up side by side and I was getting new email on my OLD notebook, but not with my new one. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I would really appreciate it.
Thanks so much

As it turns out, I almost had it right. I had to put my old "mailboxes" folder in the new location home/library/mail/
Then there was a little preference file that made mail see everything: com.apple.mail.plist
I put that in home/library/preferences and all of my old messages were in the new version, as well as all of my smart mailboxes.

  • How to transfer mail & settings to new computer?

I'd like to transfer my mail accounts and mailboxes over to a new computer, without using the Migration Assistant. Is this possible?

If you can mount the other computer as an AFP share on your desktop (in Finder's menu bar, choose Go then Connect to server or choose Go then Network), then launch Mail, there is an "import mailboxes" function under File in Mail's menubar. You'll be prompted to identify the type of previous Mail client, and you'll need to navigate your way to the mailboxes' locations on the mounted volume of the old computer.
I'd be careful about copying files and such from one computer to the other if one is Tiger and the other is Leopard. I don't know if everything is stored in the same format from one OS to the next or not. If they're both the same OS, you would be ok doing what Kappy has suggested below.

  • I have an iPod that has music from CD's that I no longer have. The iPod was synced to an old computer that crashed. My current iPhone and my old iPod share an itune's account. Is there a way I can transfer my music from my old iPod to my new computer?

I have an old iPod touch with songs from CD's I no longer have (so they weren't purchased on iTunes). The computer that the songs were synced on crashed a while ago. Is there a way I can sync my old iPod to my new computer and retrieve those songs to get them on my new iPhone? They share an Apple ID and iTuens account.

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

  • How do i open my old itunes on my new computer?

how do i open my old itunes on my new computer? do i have uninstall itunes on my old computer first? my old computer cannot access internet anymore.  i have an ipod that i can use to import but it won't open on the new computer since the dialog box reads that an ipod can only sync to one library at a time. can i open my library on my new computer? if so, how do i do that?

Your library will only be where you put it.  it resides on your computer.
Use your backup copy of you computer to put everything back.

How do I get all my old content on the new computer and still keep the new content? I also have a few different ipods and I want to have all the songs on all of them but it wont let me. I have read millions of the help articles and still cant figure it out. When I plug one ipod in it says it is going to delete all the old info to sync and cant just add the songs? Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • I have a new computer. i signed into itunes but my music isn't there.  How do i get all my music off my old iphone to the new computer

I have a new computer. i signed into itunes but my music isn't there.  How do i get all my music off my old iphone to the new computer so i can put all the music on my new one.
The guy at att told me that icloud would sync everything i had in my notes, calendar, and text messages to my new phone, but it only synced some of my notes, none of my messages, or calendar info.

Your music will only be where you put it.  It will not magically appear on a new computer.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
If for some reason you cannot do this, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an iphone:  Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
You can also redownload itunes purchases from icloud in some countires:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • My laptop was stolen. How do I sync my old iphone to a new computer without losing my purchases (music & apps)?

My laptop was stolen. How do I sync my old iphone to a new computer without losing my purchases (music & apps)?

One of the reasons to include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data that is kept separate from your laptop - not carried in the same case, etc.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iDevice, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If you are in the US, you can do this now as well.

How do I load old Photoshop CS onto new computer without updating?

Adobe closed down the CS2 (and earlier versions) activation server a couple of years ago.
Download a new non-activation copy of CS2 from Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
Install then enter the new serial number given at that link. Your existing serial number will no longer work.

  • HT1202 old ipod on my new computer, will I lose my old music

as the title says for some god awful reason I seem to not have transfered some of my old purchases to my new computer and vice versa so before I lose my music I want to make sure it is safe to sync.

    Hello there outpost_2,
First here is some information about what the Transferring Purchases function does:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848.
Essentially you can transfer the purchases you have on your iPod to the New computer. If you have songs on there that were not purchased from the iTunes Store, then they will not transfer.
If that will be an issue then I recommend copying the library from the original computer the iPod used to sync with to the new one. Use this article for assistance with that:

  • HT1386 need to sync my old ipod with my new computer, How do I keep my old stuff on the new computer?

How can I transfer stuff from my old Ipod to my new computer?

Still did not work. I did everything listed. The program did not work as needed because it is only the free version and I should not have to pay for 3rd party software for something like this. Also, that article is outdated because windows 7 does not come with contacts software, but I managed to get it to work with a helpful post on another forum. Itunes still asked me to replace current iPod's data, I went ahead and clicked yes. I'll just go ahead and redownload all of my music and whatnot. Thanks anyway.
