Trouble resetting 'expired' password on NEW MBP. It just wants to shake.

I just bought my first Mac yesterday. It was transferring all the info from my old PC (which I am using atm) using the mirgrate program. So this morning I was ready to go, popped in my apple username and password, then when prompted again on a new screen to enter my password, it would not work. Clicked on the soccerball pic/icon and was asked to reset my password, as my old one had expired, but it just did not like it. Tried various different passwords. Restarted. Restarted in safe mode as well, and still no love. Help!

When you first set the Mac up did you use an Apple ID and the password for it as your Computer Username and Password? If not then do not use the Apple ID. Use the Username and password you created when you first turn the system on for the first time.
If that fails use the Username and Password that was used on your Windows PC, see if that works.
To my Knowledge there is no place in OS X to set a expire time for a Password.
If all else fails you can always start over by using the Recovery HD partition and Erase the drive and reload the OS.
If it comes to that I suggest you do NOT use the Migrations system again. It simply does not work and when it does Look Like it works it leaves you with unintended consequences. Just copy over you files from PC to Mac. There is nothing else on the PC you need. No programs or setting from a PC can be used on a Mac.

  • Reset expired Passwords?

    Recently the DBAs overhauled out account policies to have passwords expire every X days. I'm running into my first expired account and I'm getting an ORA-28001: the password has expired error, but no prompt to reset the password.
    I thought I'd put in a feature request for a password reset window for this situation, but it seems that there was already one out there: http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:39:2786248920877118::NO::P39_ID:22121
    Closed: "Context menu to Reset Password is available"
    Does anybody know how to go about resetting expired passwords in SQL Developer?

    So my help-desk finally got around to doing an install of the 11g client. Still having an issue. I've done the following:
    -Made my ORACLE_HOME the 11g client base dir.
    -Made %ORACLE_HOME%\bin the first entry in my path
    Still getting the same error. Even tried creating a new connection. I can connect with 11g SqlPlus.
    Any thoughts?

    Contact yor carrier. Your carrier may have some Mobile Insurance that you pay a certain amount per month to insure your device. Most carriers require you have the device less than 30 days in order to insure it. If your carrier is AT&T, AT&T has mobile insurance for only $6.99 per month. AT&T has open enrollment for their mobile insurance now. So anyone has an AT&T line can get insurance coverage for their device.

    Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPhone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
    Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPhone without syncing.
    Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
    When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
    Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
    Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
    There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Resetting expired password from JDBC

    Hi All,
    I would like to know if it is possible to change an expired password from a java client that uses JDBC (classes12.zip) "thin client" to connect to oracle database (8.1.7.4).
    Can we capture the "password expired" exception from the client and change the expired password from within the java client.
    The current connect string is --->
    Connection conn;
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:port:sid",user,pass);
    Is it possible to do something like this ???
    try {
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:port:sid",user,pass);
    catch ( SQLException sqle ) {
    if ( sqle.getErrorCode() == 28001 ) // i.e. passwd expired
    //1. ask user to enter the new passwd &
    //2. change it in the database.
    Is there any other way of doing this ??
    Thanks in advance
    Arun

    I haven't tried this, but there some things to think about.
    1) Have you tried to capture the Exception? Is it a problem?
    2) Have you tried to alter a password through JDBC? Is it a problem? To execute other DDL you have to use executeUpdate() I would assum that if you can do this it will also require an executeUpdate().
    Now assuming #1 and #2 are OK
    3) How are you going to change a password when the you cannot connect because the password has expired? Are you going to hard code another non-expired userid/password in the code (bad idea). Are you going to ask the user to enter some type of administrative userid/password that will allow them to change their password?
    Just some thoughts, sorry I cannot help more...

  • Reset encryption password for NEW iPhone backups

    Hello Everyone,
    I have an iPhone and iPad which are currently working perfectly.  However during testing I figured out that I somehow lost my iTunes backup encryption password.  As such I figured I would just change the backup password, delete the old backups, and create NEW backups for which I do know the password to and all would be good (and ready for a future device failure.)
    However it appears that iTunes will not allow you to change or disable the encryption password for NEW backups without first knowing the old encryption password.  Does anyone know if a way around this?
    Thank you for your time.

    Thanks!

  • Just got a new MBP and I want to sell my old one.

    The email I got from Apple says they will give me $500 for my 3 year old MBP.  I have a lock set but I do not remember how I did this or how to remove it, but when I want to make a change with the time, for example, I have to insert a mastercode.  it is the same code when that brown/beige lock comes up. It only shows up at different times when I am trying to make a change. The company that will take my computer neds all locks removed.  It does not show up when I want to make changes to System pref.  Does anybody know how I turn that off because the company who will buy the old MBP needs this master pasword/lock turned off.
    any suggestions on how to turn off the lock or set it so it does not show up anymore?  I think I found it under System Pref.---Security---Uncheck "Require a password..."  The locks are still there but so far the ones I have gone back to look at are unlocked.

    This is just the standard user password for your account. If you've forgot it, there are various ways to reset it, depending on which version of OS X you're running.
    If you want to sell your old machine, take a look at Thomas Reed's How to prepare your Mac for sale.
    If you need help on resetting your password, post back with your OS X version.

  • New MBP Core2Duo - just my observation

    I just switched over from my MB. I loved the size of the MB, but the features and bigger screen combined with the faster processor and 128mb video card made up my mind. I just wanted to say my new MBP is runs much cooler that my old MB and my first older MBP. Have a great day!

    Thanks for posting, good to know!

  • Even on my new MBP Safari just hangs. And on the 2 MacBooks too

    Wow. So I've bought myself a MacBook Pro. 2ghz. Up from a 1.67ghz AL PowerBook.
    I had posted before with my PB on how Safari just hangs at loading pages. The blue URL bar just hangs at 3/4 of the way. And sits thre for minutes or forever.
    My only solution has always been to just do Apple Key and letter R as part of each page I go to in Safari. And this loads the page and it comes up instantly. So it's the initial going to a new page that chokes Safari.
    So I upgrade to a 2ghz MacBook Pro and two 2ghz Macbooks.
    And wouldn't you know it, Safari does EXACTLY the same thing. Hangs. Chokes. Beach Ball of death too now. ***
    And I also had previously posted on visiting the Apple Store and Safari hung up on their machines too.
    I keep my Safari cache folder read only. And the Favicon folder also read only. I have an honest 30Mbps cable connection. And the kicker, like before-
    Firefox flies and loads pages instantly! With Safari hanging and choking, I'll open Firefox and go to the page Safari is hangin and choking and, BAM. Page loads right up in Firefox. WOW
    What is it with Safari Apple? I can't imagine one PC user switching to Mac if on testing the web in an Apple Store and the web "seems so slow" to them. It's the dog Safari.
    So as I type this on my new MBP using Firefox, does anyone think Apple will ever address this issue? Others have posted saying they get the exact same thing with their copy of Safari.
    Can any imagine Steve in his office using Safari thinking this is the way a browser is supposed to work? He must be using Firefox too.
    MacBook Pro 2.0ghz Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2gig of Ram

    No it's Safari.
    Here are screen shots of the hang:

    I have three people here that this happens too. At different locations. 2 MacBooks and one MacBook Pro. We all updated from 2 iBooks and 1 PowerBook.
    And Safari does this. This is how Safari works. If we go to the exact smae sites in Firefox, the sites load instantly. Insantly!!
    I think Apple needs to ddress this issue. As I've found here in the discussions, this IS how Safari works many many thousands of users.

  • New MBP...Want my old PBG4 data on new MAC

    Last friday my PB G4 bit the dust. Took it to the Apple store genius bar and they were unable to fix the disk and told me it would have to be sent in. Since my MAC was 4 years old, I opted for a new MBP. I had been running OS X (10.5.4) with time machine back-up to a My Book 500GB. This morning I plugged the My Book into the new MAC but can't figure out how to get my old data on my new machine. When I open TM I see both machines there and if I open my old machine files my data is apparently there. How do I get all my old files, applications and data on my new MAC?
    Thank you.
    Aloha,
    Bob

    you can use Migration Assistant (it's in /Applications/Utilities) which allows Migration from TM backups. However, using MA to migrate from PPC to intel machines is very iffy. you can try it and see if it works. don't migrate any applications. migrate users only. reinstall the applications by hand.

  • Reset expired password

    Hi All
    How do I turn off password expiry for an oracle user
    Im running Oracle 11i , cheers
    Thanks
    Steve

    Each user has been assigned a profile and a profile has one parameter PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME.
    PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME parameter decides when the password should expire.
    If you set PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME = unlimited, then the password wont expire for the user who is assigned that profile.
    Do following using sys/system user or user having admin rights:
    1) find the user profile.
    select profile from dba_users
    where username = <your_user_name>;2) Check the parameter from the profile you got in step 1.
    say the profile is DEFAULT.
    select * from dba_profiles
    where profile = 'DEFAULT'
    AND RESOURCE_NAME = 'PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME';3) update the profile :
    ALTER PROFILE DEFAULT
    LIMIT PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME  UNLIMITED ;Regards,

  • Having trouble resetting admin password

    I have followed the directions on the MAC OS X install disc to get to the area that allows an admin password change. However, after I hit Utilities, then Restart, it asks me for the admin password to continue. I am trying to change it because I have forgotten it. Kind of a "Can't get there from here" loop. Any thoughts?

    Reboot with the DVD in, and hold down C when you hear the startup bong.

  • Im selling my new MBP, and I want to know the best way to erase everything?

    I have a MBP that is just a few months old, and I need to sell it.
    I intend to reinstall Leopard, fresh, and then hand it off to the buyer...
    Can I do an Erase and Reinstall, and then power it down at that point, so the buyer can put in all of their info?? (like a brand new Mac).
    Is there a good way to do this, so that all of my stuff is gone, and then the buyer can start fresh??
    Thanks
    D

    Yep. Start up your MBP from your startup DVD. Once it loads, choose exactly as you've written above. Erase and Reinstall.
    If it makes you feel more comfy, I'd recommend selecting Disk Utility from your menu items at the top of your screen once you've started your MBP from the DVD. Open up D.U. and erase your drive that way. You can even choose to "zero out" your drive...which really wipes it clean. (this will take a while to do)
    Then install the Operating System.
