Trouble Sending email with Mail.

I just upgraded to Lion 2 weeks ago and now after a power outage (2days out) I am having issues sending emails with my desktop (ethernet- hardwired).  My Laptop was fine yesterday (wireless) but not working today.  Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time and advice.

Well, since your iPhone receives perfectly, use it as the model to set up your iPad and MacBook Air.
On your iPhone, check Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (your Yahoo account).  Check the Incoming Mail Server settings, particularly the host name and server port (if you have that, it may be under "Advanced").
Make sure they're set the same on your iPad.  On your Mac, in Mail, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and look under your Yahoo account.

  • Occasional trouble sending emails with Mail

When I try to send emails through Mail, about 1 in 5 messages seems to have trouble sending. What happens is, I click send, the sending icon has a little activity sign for way longer than it takes to normally send an email, and ultimately a few minutes later I get this error message:
"Cannot send message using the server
    smtpout:secureserver.net:(myid@mydomainname).com
The connection to the server “smtpout.secureserver.net” on port 80 timed out.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
    Sending from: me <(myid@mydomainname).com>"
Normally I then click "edit message" and then try sending, and it usually goes through fine. This started about a year ago, and I have just been dealing with it, but now I'm realizing that the problem may result in multiple versions of the same email being sent, so I'd like to get it solved!
It seems to happen with yahoo and comcast, etc., emails on the receiving end.

this always happens on my desktop iMac (the usual computer I use), which is connected to the internet via my Airport/ wirelessly. My ISP hasn't changed, and I haven't heard from them about any issues... and I don't seem to have trouble connecting to the internet otherwise - it's just when sending through Mail, and just with certain addresses (as far as I can tell).
For example, occasionally I'll send an email through my webmail (same email address, same ISP, same computer, but via the webmail site on my internet browser), and I've never had trouble with the outgoing mail there. If I use my husband's Windows-based laptops or PC (on the same ISP, same cable modem, connected either wirelessly or wired) and do webmail, no problem there either
This leads me to believe that it's the way that Mail is trying to send, trying to connect to the outgoing server or something? Especially because the message apparently IS sending - maybe Mail is just not getting confirmation back from the recipient's server? I can't rely on the message having gone through, but it seems most recipients are ultimately receiving the message twice - when it comes back to me with an error, and again when I successfully send.
Can I try reconfiguring my outgoing message Mail settings? I don't know what other settings to try...

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Trouble sending attachments with Mail 7.0

I just upgraded to Mavericks and I just started using Mail 7.0 to manage my email (switching from Outlook 2011 for Mac).  I'm using an early 2008 Mac Pro.  I'm having trouble sending emails with attachments through Mail 7.0.  Any attachment regardless of file type or size doesn't go through on the first try.  I compose my email, hit send and then after sitting in the outbox for a minute or two I get this error message...
I then click on "Try With Selected Server" and sometimes it will send after that and sometimes it won't.  File size doesn't seem to matter.  I switch back to Outlook and all attachments send just fine.  Outlook has its own bugs (that's why I'm trying to switch to Mail) so I'm trying to make Mail my email app.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Let me know if you need any more info.  NOTE: I'm not an IT person so please try to dumb down your answers to a first grade level.

I am also having the exact same issue only with exchange emails that have attachments... funny thing is the problem only persistis on my MacBook not on my Imac.  Both running Mavericks, set up identically and both totally up to date.   I will on occacsion get the can't send mail error on the imac but after I click try again it goes through... on the MacBook I'm not so lucky and end up having to email people dropbox links to every darn file I want to send from my laptop.  Talk about a pain in the butt.  Apple please address and fix.
btw the unchecking auto discovery trick didn't make any difference for me
    thanks for bringin this up

  • I'm not able to send emails with mail.ru. Receiving and reading is not a problem. When I create a email with mail.ru its not possible to send it although its stored in my mail.ru account as "still to be send". What can it be??

I'm not able to send emails with mail.ru. Receiving is not a problem. Creating a mail is also not a problem and the mail will be stored at mail.ru as still to be send, only problem is its not possible to send. I noticed the buttons for sending change colour when used but they don't perform. What it is?

Don't know what changed, but all of a sudden able to send emails by mail.ru ...... sorry for bothering.

Who is your email provider? Have you set up your account manually or was it set up automatically?

  • TS3276 Trouble Sending Email Through Mail

I'm havng trouble sending email through Mail on MacBook Pro.  I'm using Lion and everything is up to date.  I receive email just fine, but when I go to reply the little wheel thingy just spins and spins, and eventually my emails get sent to the Out box and are never sent.  It's an AT&T email account that I'm using.  If I go through Yahoo, I can send the emails just fine, but I'd much rather use Mail.  Any ideas on what to do?  This just started.
    Debby J

You have a setting wrong OR. I also use ATT/Yahoo mail for some of my email accounts and earlier this morning the ATT/Yahoo email system was down.
If that is not the problem, ATT/Yahoo system down, then it is simply you do not have the SMTP settings correct.
The server address is smtp.att.yahoo.com and you must have your complete email address, [email protected]/net where attdomian is bellsouth/att/southwest(not sure if that is one of them)/whatever DOT com or net for your domain. It has to included what comes after the @ sign. Some email programs strip what comes after the @ sign out of your logon info. And of course you must have the correct password entered.

  • How do I use my iPhone's hot spot to send email with Mail ?

    Hi,
My land line is dead ... so no phone nor internet at home.  But I can use my iPhone'hot spot to get on the web from my iMac.  Great ... it works !
Oups !   I cannot send email from my computer using my iPhone's hot spot with Mail.
How do I do that ?
    Regards.
    Robert Lespérance

    Hi Templeton Peck,
Thanks for droping in my thread ...
Doesn't the fact that I can surf the web with my iPhone's hot spot and that I cannot use Mail normally has I normally do give you a clue what the problem could be ?
What other information can I give you other than normally I can surf and send email with my regular ISP.  Now that my ISP is dead I am using my iPhone's hotspot to surf the web awaiting that my ISP's connoection returns. Surfing is OK but I cannot send emails with through Mail.
When I want to send an email from my computer, I get a message asking me to select the the SMTP server.  Then I select my usual ISP server, but the message comes back telling me it does not work.
Is there any other configuration to do ?

  • Cannot send Email with Mail since updated to 10.7.2, they stay in my Send Box...

Since I updated, I cannot send Email through Mail, it works with Thunderbird though.

Just FYI, I've had the same problem for months now. I have been accessing my hotmail via the web, but decided to try the OS X Mail app.  I could get emails into the account with no problem but couldn't send.  I read all the blog and support entries and have tried everything they recommended, like changing my computer name to one word, without success.  Then last night, it just so happened that my broadband provider had to change out my wireless modem.  As soon as he plugged in the new one, some emails that had been in my outbasket for a month went through instantly and all of a sudden my Mail, both incoming and outgoing now work.  So I think people need to look at their router settings for the a solution to the problem.

  • I have a MacBook Air, OS 10.8.5 I am having trouble sending attachments with Mail. Even small (130K) files don't go. It tries to send then gives up. What can I do to fix this?

I am having trouble send messages with attachments in Mail. Even small attachments (130K) Mail tries to send, then gives up and the message sits in my out box. How can I fix this?

    1. You need an external DVD drive.
    2. There are no Mac OS X applications or other software in the iTunes App Store.

  • Users Having Troubling Sending Email with Mac Mail Client with Godaddy

    Hello,
I recently had issues' with my mail and my new Mac Pro and sending emails from www.godaddy.com. I tried 4 email clients and could retrieve my emails but the outgoing mail server keep rejecting my password. After I almost switch email companies I called one last person from godaddy. The support person James M suggested deleting the account in my email manager on godaddy system and re-created the account and everything works fine. Please note, to back up emails before doing this. I think something is corrupting something in the server that requires the deletion of the email account that is only effecting 10.64 users.
    Best of luck,
    M

Have GoDaddy reset the SMTP relays to 0 (zero), then back up to 250 (or whatever your limit is). This reset the password authentication and emails were sent fine afterwards. Good luck.

  • Cannot send email with Mail app-..can't connect to AOL server anymore??

Up until today my MAIL app in my iMac let me use an email address that is from the AOL.com group (netscape.net)…I cannot send emails now because I can't get the computer to connect to the server. My iPad will….but not the desktop. I tried using a different server name; smtp.nestcape.net, which is the one I used in the iPad…but the iMac won't let me change it to that one..so back to the old smtp.aol.com……Still my MAIL app is not recognizing this or letting me connect!?!. I tried creating a new password at the wedpage of that email account.. successfully..but it has made no difference. I am stumped and have wasted half the day trying to deal with this. Anyone else have such an experience? HELP…PLEASE!

Thank you Eric for sending the links. Fortunately after I wrote this post…I don't know what happened but I filled in my mail preference settings for the umteenth time with my new email password and voila! It worked. For some reason however…now when I open the Mail App I do still get a prompt asking me if I want to use this server….and it is, of course, the one and only I have listed.!?!?! The thing that irritates me…is…that I had done NOTHING to cause a problem to begin with. I think my email account at aol (nestcape) may have been hacked and my password stolen or compromised in some way??...and perhaps that caused a glitch in my mail app??? I am no techy, but I should have started out with my intuition and changed the password first before going mental….When something like this happens it makes one feel so vulnerable.…I usually feel well secured with my lone iMac and now my new iPad…ANYWAY…thank tyou  for addressing my issue and I have bookmarked those links…for future reference which I hope I never need. Hey..is that your kitty??? She is beeeooootiful!
Take care and again, thanx~ D

  • Trouble sending email with password authentication in 10.5.6

I just replaced two macs running 10.4.11 with two running 10.5.6. I am now unable to send email through an SMTP server that requires password authentication. I am able to send email if I switch to a server not requiring authentication, but the authenticating server is preferred.
I migrated both systems using Migration Assistant, so hopefully that copied everything correctly, but I have subsequently retyped the name and password several times to be sure.
If I setup a 10.4.11 machine beside its 10.5.6 inheritor, the mail preferences look identical to me (modulo changes in layout between the two versions). If I use Connection Doctor, the 10.4.11 machine quickly gives the server a green light while the 10.5.6 machine spins for a while and finally assigns a red light.
    What am I missing?

  • Trouble sending emails from mail app

    Hi!
I am having trouble with the mail app on my Macbook Pro. I can recieve emails on the app but i can't send them. The outgoing server keeps saying offline. I phoned apple support this morning and was told to contact MSN about the outgoing server information- the information they provided me matches the information in the app. I have noticed that a lot of people are having this problem and i have tried a number of solutions that people have provided. Nothing seems to work for me.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks!

If a lot of people are having this problem, it indicates that the issue is not with your computers but with the outgoing mail server you are trying to use. All you can do it wait until your email provider (MSN) gets the server back up and running, or you can switch to another email provider.
    Best of luck.
