Trouble sending mail from hotels

My bro-in-law are having the same problem. When connected at a hotel through a WIRED connection, we can't send messages from mail. It puts them in the out box for sending later. This happened to me a few months ago at another hotel.
Any ideas? Very strange....Thanks!

I've been having this problem for a long time while traveling (so I've always had to use Safari to send my mail) but in searching through the forums I just discovered this little tip - it was in a discussion about using the iPhone for mail, but it worked perfectly for my regular OS X Mail program as well:
Which port are you using for this SMTP server with the Mail application on your Mac and with the iPhone?
If 25, try using 587 for the SMTP server
So in Mail
- go into Preferences: Account Settings
- make sure your .Mac account is selected on the left
- make sure "Account Information" is selected at the top
- at the bottom, next to "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" (which should be set to smtp.mac.com) click the button "Server Settings..."
- in the new window, where it says "Server Port" if it's set to 25, change it to 587
I did that and much to my amazement, I can send messages from a hotel for the first time. Not sure if it'll work in every hotel, but excited to hear that little jet taking off from my Mail.

  • Cannot send mail from any mail account

    I have a Mac Mini, late 2014 model, running OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2.   I have constant difficulty sending mail from any of my mail accounts; these are iCloud, Googlemail, Yahoo and a personal one which uses 123-reg.co.uk.  I am currently located in Greece, but have been having trouble for ages, even in the UK.  I can receive mail, but I don't seem able to send it.  Error message is usually simply cannot send mail using this server, select a different server.  However, when connection doctor is run, all servers appear to be connected and I am logged in.  Any ideas please?

  • Is anyone else having trouble sending mail?  I have a MobileMe subscription - not sure whether that is the problem.  The Port assigned to my mail account on my iMac has a different number for the one recommended by Apple, but I hesitate to change it.

    I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
    The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
    if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
    Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

    I'm having trouble sending mail through my MobileMe.
    I set up all the outgoing settings according to this:

    I had a problem today, for some reason me.com had the mail message being sent from a different account than the one I used to create it in. I just deleted the message and did it again and it went the second time..maybe this helps maybe it dosn't.

    Sorry I don't understand the first question :{
    Connection Doctor says everything is connected. i can send mail from the server's own web site ,just not from the Apple Mail program.
    The problem did begin when I was travelling from one hotel to another.
    Any ideas?

  • I-Pod touch will only send mail from defualt account.

    I have a 4th gerneration I-pod touch.  I always keep it updated.
    I'm having trouble with the e-mail.  It will only send mail from the default e-mail account.  If I go to the "From" line on an outgoing e-mail and select another e-mail address it doesn't make a difference.  It will still send the message from the default account even though the alternate e-mail was listed in the "From" line.

    In the meantime, it would help if you could post back with which OS version you are using (ie. OSX 10.3.9 ?) and who your ISP is (Internet Service Provider).

    Hi guys,
    Wondered if anyone out there can shed some light on this little problem.
    I use Entourage for my emails & all was working fine until yesterday. I can receive mail from all and sundry but I can't send anything. I subscribe to ntlworld internet service and if log onto my email through their webmail, then it's fine. I've tried sending mail from mac mail and I get the same problem. I've been onto microsoft support & gone through all the troubleshooting with Entourage. The Entourage techy suggested it was my internet provider blocking my emails as they think I'm a spammer?? I phoned ntl & they insist it's nothing to do with them as I can send/receive from the website. (If I send an email with the address @ntlworld it's fine, but any other address i.e. all my clients/mates etc just stays in my outbox.
    Nothing on any of my settings has changed so I'm at a loss what to do next.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    it may be that your server (internet provider) has just started blocking outgoing mails not authenticated by them.
    Go to your account set up...
    and fill in the following details.
    SMTP SERVER: smtp.mac.com
    then click on advanced sending otions...
    click on override default SMTP port... type 587
    click on SMTP servber requires authentication...
    use same setting as receiving mail server.
    try this...

    Why do I get the message   "Cannot send mail, the user name and or password for my email outgoing server is incorrect"?  I use the same account, etc. on my iPhone and haven't any trouble sending mail.

    If your email requires a password for the SMTP server you can set it up in the settings in the General mail setup. Some i.e Gmail require a password for SMTP.
    Otherwise you will probably get better answers in the iPad forum.

    There is no way for anyone to know if your problem is identical to the problem reported by maria_diaz. She didn't mention anything about getting the "relaying" message. I suggest you start a new question that gives a good title to a specific problem. Then in the body of the thread describe the problem in detail, tell us what steps you have tried so far to correct the problem, what happened, and what error messages you received.

    Contact your email provider and get the correct settings to use for the outgoing mail server (SMTP) on a mobile device. If it's email provided by your ISP, they have likely blocked email from outside their network from relaying to prevent spam.

    I am a new mac user so my troubleshooting skills are very weak. Until about one week ago, i was able to send mail from both my hotmail account and my .mac account. Now, i get this error (just on my .mac account):
    An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.

    (full patched). There is also a DAG between the new servers. All mail goes through a BorderWare besides the internal mail.
    I can send mail from both environments to the Internet. I can also send internal mail from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.But the problem is that I am unable to send from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007. I've debugged, but not solved the problem and there are
    few articles on the Internet.
    Any suggestions?
