Trouble sending mail through Gmail with Apple Mail

I am having trouble sending email through Gmail using Apple Mail.  I have entered the correct password thorugh the two step verification from Google and the Connection Doctor says that I'm connected to the IMAP and SMTP, but I get the error that my email address was rejected by the gmail server.
Any thoughts?

Google has instruction posted for setting up your iPhone with gmail. I followed these directions and it worked perfectly.

  • Gmail smtp (outgoing) mail not working with apple mail 5

    Hi,
I have a numbe of gmail accounts, I can receive mail through the new apple mail 5 client but can't send any at all.
I've tried everything gmail help suggests but to no avail...
    Cheers,
    Alex

Have you use the correct outgoing server - smtp.mail.me.com and SSL is required. I would suggest removing the account and starting again, following the instructions applicable to Leopard in this page:
    iCloud and Snow Leopard

    ChrisK21,
Make sure your settings match up with this:

if wouldn't hurt to delete the account entirely and just re-set it up in preferences.

  • Solution to yahoo mail setup issues with Apple mail...

There have to be a lot of people out there who have a similar setup as me --- ISP is Verizon (FIOS), and am using an iMac w/OS X, v 10.7.4, and Apple Mail v 5.2.  No matter what I did, I could not get Apple mail to connect to Yahoo's smtp server...  (Gmail was not working either)  I spent hours on this.  FINALLY -- I discovered the problem.  My FIOS router/firewall was on the maximum security setting, which only allows outgoing smtp mail to port 25!  Once I changed that firewall setting (which allows outgoing smtp mail to port numbers other than 25), I was finally able to connect to yahoo's smtp server!  Now my Apple mail works just fine.  Here are the settings I used:
    Incoming mail server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
    Incoming port: 995
    Outgoing mail server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing port: Used "custom port" set to 465
SSL is used for both incoming and outgoing servers, with password as the authentication method.
Full email address is used wherever it says "user name" in mail preferences
    * This is with Yahoo Plus mail.  And before you do anything with Apple mail, you have to make sure that you enable "POP" mail in your Yahoo Plus account, under mail - settings.
I hope this saves some people the hours of time that it cost me!!

I have managed to get incoming mail to work. It is the outgoing settings that are still not working on my system. I have tried every configuration. I have gone back and forth between Verizon and Apple Care too many times to count.
Do you have to turn down the security level on the FIOS router/firewall before making these changes? If you do, it probably makes the system more vulnerable to malware, etc.
I have standard Yahoo Verizon mail. I believe you can enable it for POP mail. It certainly always worked for me before. Like you I have tried everything. I was also told that my internet connection is PPPoE versus DHCP which may also cause problems. Like you, I have spent days trying to sort this out.

  • Is anyone else having trouble sending email via O2 using Apple Mail (However, I can receive fine)

Since the upgrade to Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8) I have noit been able to send email via Apple Mail through the O2 network in the UK. O2 say they are aware of this but that it is something that Apple need to address via a patch.

Following a 45 minute call to O2 yesterday I've just had a further conversation with O2 who advised me to change my 'port setting' to 25. Mail now works fine! Panic over.

  • Using Gmail with Apple Mail.

Has anyone else encountered strange behaviors retrieving your gmail through Apple Mail. The issue I'm having is it seems to pull in the last couple days worth of email every time I open apple mail to check my mail. Pretty annoying when you get a lot of email. Any suggestions?

Couldn't wait. Found it under Preferences -> Accounts -> Advanced.
I changed it from One Week (the default ? ) to One Day.
    That should help.
I have my Apple Mail program set to FORWARD every message that comes into Mail to a Gmail address, and on Gmail I have preferences set to reply to all messages from the email address they are sent to, so my email that goes to Mail generates replies that look like they come from Mail.
Allows me to keep a record of all emails I receive.

Help!  After installing this update (10.9.2) I lost ALL ability to send or receive any Gmail messages via Apple Mail.  Anyone else having this problem?  I can still use Gmail via any web browser but can no longer use Apple Mail as I've been doing for the past 2 years.

  • Yahoo Mail folder behaviour with Apple Mail 5.0

I think it's great that Apple Mail 5.0 now has IMAP functionality with Yahoo Mail but I have one query that I'm hoping someone can help me out with.
If I send mail with Yahoo Mail, using Apple Mail, it creates a new sent messages folder where my messages are put after being sent. What I would like to do however, is use the Sent folder, which Yahoo uses by defaul when using the web interface.
Is there any way to get Apple Mail 5.0 to do this?
    Any help/ideas/suggestions

I just did that for the "sent" folder that was showing up under the list of Yahoo folders.  It seems as if all email sent from my phone were going into that folder. Once I did that, the folder popped up under the Sent with the paper airplane icon.
However, then it moved all of the ones that HAD been in the sent folder with the paper airplane (sent locally on the Mac) to a "Sent Messages (Yahoo!)" folder under "On My Mac".
I'm assuming the paper airplane section is IMAP.  But now I still have sent items in 2 places:
    Sent (paper airplane)>Yahoo
    On My Mac>Sent Messages (Yahoo!)
How do I resolve this so that ALL Yahoo email (whether sent from my iPhone or locally on the Mac--or even the web interface) goes to the same sent folder?

  • I am having trouble receiving gmail with Apple Mail.

I have deleted and re-added my gmail account several times, and for some reason my iMac is struggling.  I have searched and verified that every setting is correct on gmail's end, and done the same in my iMac, but for some reason it takes forever to receive messages, and when mail attempts to synchronize, the lower left "Receiving x of x messages" bar will run and run, but to no avail.  Any secret solution out there?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
Is it POP or IMAP account?
    Gmail send but not receive...
Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
    1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
    2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:
    https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptch
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.
Or duplicate entries in Keychain Access.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
    The receiving email ports are:
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
    Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

  • Problem sending email through Comcast with Mac Mail

I have seen this problem discussed here but no solution that I follow. Is there an
easy fix to this. I am able to receive emails but...
Here's the error message I get when I try to send from Mail:
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server.
I have tried changing the email address and the user name..but without success.
The "Connection Doctor" in the Windows Menu went through a check and determined that my settings (POP Account and Internet connection status) were correct, as far as incoming and outgoing servers. ("connection to server succeeded") Didn't mention any other problems.
    Any help appreciated, thanks

I managed to get things working by deleting my mail account then recreating. Although this has been suggested before, I encountered a comcast glitch during the process that may explain some of this misbehavior. Comcast asked us to create new 8 character passwords. However, the incoming mail server still wants you to log in to your old password, while the smtp server wants the new password.
Although this may be more work than necessary, here is how I got my mail working again.
Create temporary folder in Filed Mail and move messages in your inbox to the temporary folder.
    Delete your comcast acount.
Recreate comcast account, using automatic setup.
enter old password at first prompt.
enter new password at second prompt when it looks for the correct PW to enable outgoing mail.

  • How do you send email to groups with Apple Mail

How do you select a group from Address book to use in email address?

Either select the group from the AddressBook within Mail and choose recipient field (TO, CC, or BCC) or just type the group name in the recipient field.
The group name should show in the field or right click on the group name to expand the addresses.

  • OS Update 10.9.1 did NOT fix Gmail syncing issues with Apple Mail App?

Is it just me? Or is anyone else having the same issues of gmail still NOT syncing accross iPad and Mac Mail app in spite of the "update/fix" to OS? My mail on my three Macs and one iPad are still never synced corrctly. When I try "syncronize all mail boxes" in the mail app of the mac, it does not work.
I look directly at my Gmail online thorugh Safari on the Google site and see I have 2 emails in my IN box. Yet on one Mac it has 15 (13 of ehcih were deleted several hours ago). On another Mac it has 18. On the iPad it has it right as that is where I begain looking at end editing email today.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Send html mail with apple mail

I used to send a html newsletter with apple mail. I opened the html file in safari pressed cmd + i and a html mail was created. On Yosemite there seems to be a bug with this feature. After pressing cmd + i it creates a mail and html website is selected in this mail, but the mail body is empty. Now I have no ideo how to send the newsletter. Apple mail was the only way to achive a correctly displayed newsletter on most common mail clients.
Does anyone have the same problem or a solution?

Seems to be a bug in Safari under Yosemite. Occurs only with HTML pages which are stored locally on the Mac and then opened with Safari.
Two options for a work around:
    (1)
When Apple Mail shows a blank page, choose PDF instead of WEB PAGE in the mail header.
Thereafter, the contents will appear as a PDF attachment.
    (2)
Publish the HTML page. Surf with Safari to the published page. Use the command "File : Send : Email this page".
    Now it should work.
