Trouble setting up Gmail using an ISP provided email
Running Mail 4.6.
I have recently switched ISP's and the new ISP uses Gmail IMAP. I want to use my ISP provided email address instead of a Gmail one. I have followed all the instructions in setting up Gmail IMAP. I receive mail fine, but I am unable to send mail. The Outgoing Server remains Offline even though I followed the instructions on how to set it up and believe it's correct.
Are there some pitfalls that I may have missed or does this sound like an ISP issue?
If there's a more detailed tutorial on setting up Gmail IMAP than the one Google provides, can you point me to it?
Thanks.
Then you need to generate an application specific password to read gmail using the iOS mail app. The alternative is to download the gmail app from the app store and use it to manage your gmail.

Has anyone set up gmail using apple configurator?
Does anyone know where I can find a step by step guide for email setup using configurator?
For a school that uses iPads for learning I would not set up a email for them on the iPads at all. They need to learn so have them set up an account thru gmail lets say and dedicate it for the class's. Anything school related they would use this email.
What you would need to do is have them provide the user/password in writing and also have on thier that they allow an administrator to access the account at any time if needed. Also make sure to put in thier that this email is strictly to be used for school related, class related events. It is not a personal email, not to be used for any personal activity.
This last part should be looked over by the school officials and lawyers but something of that sort will keep you out of trouble.
When you use devices such as this in education, the more you let them do the better.
The issue you will have is blocking stuff on the server side, websites ect.. -
Trouble setting up Gmail account on iPhone 4s
I am having trouble setting up my Gmail account. My password and username are correct & the troubleshooting articles I have read about his haven't aided the process. Any suggestions?
This isn't a Apple iOS issue, it's something Google is doing.
I've tried 4x on my phones Mail app and I get the same error message. All was fine for months then today this error message. What's odd is if you go to Google's site to log in all is fine. Now a week ago I had a Android phone, I was always a iPhone person but since we left AT&T I tried something different. I hated that phone, my entire experience was just bad. Too be honest that was my 2nd time and last trying an Android phone. Now I don't know about anyone else but if you've jumped from Android and now having these problems, then there is something deeper then POP3 or Account Forwarding going on. -

Trouble setting up to use my own email address on a MAC
I'm on my work computer. I am trying to get set up to use Thunderbird. It will not grant me access to use my own email address (says wrong password) but I'm just now setting it up for the first time. I tried the system's administrator password and that didn't work either. I do not want to use Thunderbird as my default email client. Any ideas?
usually it is firewall or anti virus programs blocking the network connection that results is spurious incorrect password errors from the account wizard.
Given their recent adoption on MACs I now make the suggestion to mac users as well. Check both to ensure Thunderbird has full access to the internet. Disable any email anti virus scanning (it often does not understand the port probing that goes with the auto detect feature, and simply eats the results) -
I have entered all the right info to set up receiving email from my gmail account. Keeps telling me the name or PW is incorrect. HELP!
Here's the iOS Mail Setup Assistant. Hope it helps:

I am having trouble setting up up an ePrint account - have email/code but no password
I have an HP 6700 printer and an old Mac that is too old to support the printer. I am now trying to set up and iPrint account. I went through the steps on my new printer and got my printer code or email address. What I don't have is a password for this account. I tried to create an new account and it asks for the email address and the password. Since I don't have one I can't go any further.
I used to have an HP account a few years ago but the email associated with that account was hacked and closed.
How can I set up a new password and ePrint account? My code is only going to be valid for another 23 hours and I will probably need to get a new one if I don't figure this out.
thanks for you help!Hi
You can go ahead and visit the link given below and follow the steps given it to retrive the password and eprintercenter email id.

I'm having trouble setting up my Google Apps for Education email address in the mail app
I have tried several times and different ways to add my .edu email account to the iOs system through the mail app on both my mac and my iphone. It is run through Google apps for education, so it uses gmail as a platform but is addressed as my school's title. On a few occasions it wouldn't accept it to add, on others it connected but wouldn't access the email account once it was added.
The approaches available may differ depending upon which operating system you have. I am running OS 10.8.4 and on my computer, the following works:
Go to System Preferences and select Mail, Contacts, & Calendars.
From the right, choose Gmail; this should open an dialogue box, where you should enter:
Your name (as you wish it to appear)
Email address (should include the @whatever.edu, where whatever is the appropriate university extension--it should be .edu, not gmail.com)
The password on the account.
Choose the applications you want to sync with your computer and click Add Account. You will probably get an error about Mail Server Discovery, but click Continue anyway.
Launch your Mail application and it should have you setup your account. Choose/enter the following:
Account type: IMAP
Title Description: (put whatever you want the account titled, it's up to you)
Incoming Mail Server: type in imap.gmail.com
User Name: put your full email username, including the @whatever.edu
Password: put your email password again
Configure the outgoing mail server with:
Description: whatever you want it called
Outgoing Mail server: type in smtp.gmail.com
Check the option Use Authentication
Username: type your full username, including the @whatever.edu
Enter your password and click Continue and then Create.
That should be it. -
877 using fe as WAN (ISP provider modem/router) - VPN won't come up!
Hi,
Due some changes with our ISP, the atm interface on the 877 router won't support stable connections anymore. The fix I'm having to do is to use our ISP provided modem/router, and have the 877 use an fe port as a WAN port and instigate the VPN from there.
I've had issues with getting the WAN port to work correctly that I got fixed here:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4090973
Now I've got to get this bit going then I'm all good!
Basic set up is:
Remote firewall <-> internet <-> local ISP (modem/router) <-> Cisco 877 <-> laptop/switch etc

Cannot use Outlook2010 to connect to Gmail with Verizon ISP
I have a laptop that works just fine using Outlook2010 to connect to my Gmail POP3 account from multiple locations except my home where Verizon is my ISP. I read several threads that Verizon blocks certain ports. However, I use a SSL connection with incoming port 995 and outgoing port 465. Neither of these was mentioned in the threads as being blocked.
Called Verizon tech support, which was hopeless. The tech claims they only help with Verizon email. He sent me to the Verizon premium service, which just wanted to sign me up for a monthly support contract. The "tech" claims Verizon does not block any ports and that the problem is on my end.
I am ready to drop Verizon as my ISP. Any ideas how to fix this?Welcome to the forums. This is a place where customers help each other. If you want a response from Verizon, you'll need to contact them using the options provided by the "contact us" link at the bottom of these pages.
I've never heard of Verizon blocking any ports except maybe outbound SMTP to non-Verizon servers on un-protected port 25.
I uses gmail's IMAP server over FiOS without any problems. I'm using Thuderbird with port 993 (SSL/TLS) for IMAP and 465 (SSL/TLS) for SMTP.
Are you using Windows? It can be setup to have different security and firewall settings for different connections. That might be an issue. While unlikely, you could have an odd setting in your router. And of course, it could be a Outlook configuration issue.
If you post more details, some of us here might be able to offer more specific suggestions.
Good Luck

Using gmail imap & sympatico ISP
I'm using an iMac running 10.3.9
I'm having trouble setting up Mail 1.3.11 using gmail IMAP. I just get a message saying that imap.gmail.com could not connect.
Does it matter what ISP I'm using? I use Sympatico in Toronto. Presumably I'm not required to have to route email through their servers?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
Are you following Google's help pages for setting up Mail?
http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799&topic=12920
There's no specific page for Mail 1.3, but there is one for Mail 2.0 if it helps:

Also, did you remember to enable IMAP in GMail's setting prior to trying to configure Mail? -
I am having trouble setting up my time capsule. the amber light is flashing. i have a Verizon FIOS network that i use for the internet (WiFi) and do not want to configure the Time Capsule to do that function. I just want the Time Capsule to back up.
Simple.. bridge the TC.. in the apple utility in the NAT and DHCP area.
Plug it into the FIOS router.. you can turn off wireless in the TC if you want.. or use it.. it can work faster if you are nearby and can select 5ghz.. but up to you. -
I can't set up gmail in my iPad 2. Keep on saying ' can't connect with SSL and ask me whether to connect without using SSL, then I press 'yes' and it said again IMAP is not working and tell me to see network connection and incoming mail server. No idea how to do anymore. Already tried to figure out. But not work. Can anyone pls help me?
Nope, doesn't pass verification. I get the spinner for a minute or so, then the alert about setting it up without SSL. Are you suggesting I disable Fetch and Push BEFORE I enter the account details? Because I never get past the account details screen, unless I choose "Set up without SSL" after the warning.
