Trouble setting up new device with iCloud backup

I am trying to set up a new Mac Book Pro, and a new iPad Air. I wasn't sure which to choose, set up as new or from iCloud backup. I was having challenges backing up to iCloud from my iPhone, so I chose set up as new, thinking when I logged into iCloud I could transfer the info. We used the new devices, the contacts were blank and my husband added myself and him to the Contacts.
I was able to back up my iCloud on my iPhone, so I started over from scratch with the new iPad, and chose restore from iCloud backup. the contacts and calendar are not showing up? and the only names in the Contacts are the two my husband added before.

You can check what is stored in iCloud.
iCloud.com > login > Contacts.
Then check out Calendar and Notes from there.
If they are there then there will be a way to download (sync) them to your iPad and new Mac. I’m not an expert in this latter procedure so I will leave it to others to post such instructions.
If on iCloud you find some good Notes, back them up by mailing them to yourself.
Did you have iCloud enabled on the MBP or another Mac with a copy of you Contacts on same?  Is there a Time Machine backup of same?  If so you can recover Contacts, Calendar, and Notes from that Time Machine backup.  If so post back and I’ll post instructions on such restores.

  • Why my contacts are not in my new device with icloud?

i changed iphone 4s for 5c, i backed up all my contacts in icloud but now in my new device i cant see them, so i dont know what im doing wrong or if i missing something.

Did you backup your 4s to iCloud and also sync your contacts to iCloud? If you synced them, you can use an internet browser and log in to https://www.icloud.com and see them there. Doing that would help you confirm whether they are in iCloud from a sync. If they are then go on your 5c to Settings > iCloud and confirm that the account is the same and that Conacts is on (green). That should bring them to the phone if you are connected to wi-fi. If not connected to wi-fi you may need to go to Settings > Cellular > Use Cellular Data For and turn Contacts on there as well.
If they aren't at https://www.icloud.com then that would indicate that they weren't synced there but that doesn't mean they weren't backed up to iCloud. There isn't a way to view the contents of an iCloud backup but if they were backed up, then they should come to the phone as part of a restore. Your post doesn't indicate whether you did a restore as part of setting up your new phone.

  • Setting up new phone with iCloud

My iPhone 4 was water damaged and I bought a new iPhone 5. I am setting up the phone and trying to restore my data from my iCloud back up. It is saying there is a problem loading my iCloud backups. If I set it up as a new iPhone have I lost everything? Thank you in advance for your response.

You will lose settings, saved app data, your camera roll, etc..
The ponly things you can retain is what will sync back via iCloud:
    Settings > iCloud

  • Trying to set up new phone with iCloud. My backup shows up but not in bold so it won't let me select it. Any ideas??

Trying to set up my new iphone. Saved my info from iCloud and when I try to download on the 5c it is not in Bold so it won't let me select it but it does show my backup at 4:09. Any ideas??

Make sure your 5c is running the same or higher version of iOS as the one you backed up.  If it isn't you cannot restore the backup until you update the phone.  Then make sure you are restoring the backup this way: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.
You phone won't need to be from the same provider or have the same telephone number to use the backup, but you will need to be signed into the iCloud account that you backed up your old phone to.

  • Trouble setting up "new" iMac to iCloud

After totally erasing, formatting and installing Lion from scratch on my iMac I have tried for 3 hours to connect that computer to iCloud.
    Just get these messages:
"Incorrect password" and cannot log into iCloud.com because "account isn't verified"
Howver, the very same account - and very same password - works from two other devices.
There is no inidcations on the iCloud webpages of any problems with the service(s).
Any suggestions? (besides using my MacBook Air instead).

  • HT1766 can I back up my new device with both icloud & itunes

Can I restore my new device from both itunes and icloud ?

    You've asked 2 different questions.
can i back up my new device with both icloud & itunes
You can set it up to backup to iCloud. Once you've done this you can back it up to iTunes on your computer manually, so technically, yes. You can back it up to both.
Can I restore my new device from both itunes and icloud ?
If you have backed up a device to both, then you can restore either one. Restoring completely overwrites the contents of the phone, so if you restore it from iCloud, then restore it from iTunes, the data you restored from iCloud will be wiped from the phone and replaced with the data you restored from iTunes. The only way to initiate a restore from iCloud is to wipe the phone and start the iCloud restore from the setup wizard...
Now, maybe you'd like to re-state your question so that you get the answer you're actually looking for instead of answers that correctly address what you asked, but do not address what you meant to ask.

  • Sync used new iPad with iTunes w/o setting as new device or restoring

    Hi,
few weeks after using new iPad that never synced with iTunes (backing up to iCloud), i want to sync iBooks and Aperture photos from iTunes library.
But, when i connect my iPad to iTunes using usb cable, there are only two choices: Set as new device or restore from older backup. I dont want to sync anything but iBooks and photos. What could i do?

Hmm, is Whitson's iPad the current name of the device, or an earlier iPad? Does that image you've shown occupy the entire iTunes window or is the usual column of library sources and playlists shown down the left-hand side. If the list is there then the iPad should appear as a device that you can right/option/cmd-click on. Failing that with all your purchases having come from the store you should be able to set up as new device and then reacquire all your store content but that would lose any data and settings. I suppose that after restoring as new, then backing up to the machine, you could then try restoring the backup from the cloud, and then if needed go through the original process as I suggested.
You might find that if you opt to set up as new nothing actually changes until you choose some content to sync, which may give you the opportunity to use the process I've previously outlined. Sorry I can't be clearer but I know that method has worked for a few people who have had to switch computers after a crash. I'm not personally familiar with the process under your precise circumstances.
The "cut the cord" feature which allowed you to set up the device without connecting to a computer is all well and good but if you have to go through this sort of effort when the time comes that you want to hook up your device to a library on your computer it becomes a complete nightmare.

  • My iPhone 3Gs is now no longer a recognised device on iTunes after I downloaded the new iTunes with iCloud software, but it does recognise my iPad2??

My iPhone 3Gs is now no longer a recognised device on iTunes after I downloaded the new iTunes with iCloud software, but it does recognise my iPad2??
I run both Mac and a PC and have iTunes on both, which has previously recognised my iPhone. I had updated my Mac with the new iTunes software with iCloud and updated my iPad2 just yesterday. I then wanted to do the same with my iPhone today, but my Mac wouldn't recognise the device so I tried it on my PC, which recognised the phone but told me I needed to update my iTunes and this in turn wanted to update my iPhone software. After completing all this and restarting, my iPhone now shows the iTunes icon with the USB plug pointing towards it, obviously wanting me to plug it in to my computer to re-connect with iTunes, but now neither of my computers recognise my iPhone and my PC states an 'Unknown Device'. My Mac doesn't even see it. Can anyone help as I really need to get my phone working?? Thanks

Hold down the Home and Power button for 20 seconds. And try to update again.

There is a new security feature in iOS 7 called Activation Lock. You need the
AppleID and passcode used to activate the iPad or it will be useless to you.
    There is no workaround.
Suggest you try very hard to remember that AppleID and passcode. Did you try the
AppleId you used to log into this forum?

  • Can I set up my new iPad as new device with my original Apple id then transfer which apps etc I want later from my cloud, thank you

Can I set up my new iPad as new device with my original Apple id then transfer which apps etc I want later from my cloud, thank you

You can download the apps again by opening App Store app on the iPad and tap Purchased at the bottom. That will display all apps that you have previously purchased on that Apple ID and you can download any of them by using the icon to the right of each (icon of a cloud with a down arrow).

  • I'm having issues with iCloud backup with comcast since iO6 update

I'm having issues with iCloud backup with comcast since iO6 update.  I'm able to back via work wifi but not at home.  Any ideas?

    Hi BmoreHunter.
As far as using the bridge mode method you'd need to see what CLJDOhas to say, as that user is the only one that I see in this thread who used this method. The method that worked for me is different. I went out and bought a new modem. This made the most sense to me since the firmware in the unit that comcast gave me had issues and I am paying to rent the thing, I figured that I'll save some money if I just buy my own.
I ended up purchasing a motorola SURFboard eXtreme (model SB6121) for $70 (happened to be on sale) from my local Target. For another $7 I was able to secure a 2yr warranty against failure, which was my only hesitation in buying vs renting.
This modem should work just fine for you since you are a comcast customer. If you decide to go with a different modem, the important thing is to make sure that you purchase a modem that is compatible with the technology that your ISP (in this case comcast) uses. Also DOCSIS 3.0 is the "flavor" of cable modem you want as it will give you better performace than DOCSIS 2.0 devices (such as an older Motorola SURFboard).
Once you buy the modem you will have to call comcast and have them add the modem to your account. They'll ask for the MAC address of the modem, then send a re-set signal to it, so make sure you are home when you call and can connect/disconnect the modem as needed. After your modem is added to your account and up and running you can then connect your new AirPort Express to the modem (via ethernet cable) and you should be all set!

  • If I restored my new iPhone from iCloud backup, and I delete the old iPhone backup to make room on iCloud to back up my new phone, will it delete everything on the new phone?

If I restored my new iPhone from iCloud backup, and I delete the old iPhone backup to make room on iCloud to back up my new phone, will it delete everything on the new phone?

I have this exact same issue.  Replaced my iPhone 4s with the new iPhone 5s, setting up my new iPhone 5s to restore from iCloud.  This completed and now I am unable to delete my old iPhone 4s iCloud backup (consuming 15.1 GB of my 20GB allocation).  How can I delete it, so that I get my 15 GB back?  I am not going to invest in additional iCloud storage, because I will be 15 GB down from the off.

  • I cannot sync my Notes between my ipad, my iphone and my mac, despite setting Notes to sync with iCloud

I cannot sync my Notes between my ipad, my iphone and my mac, despite setting Notes to sync with iCloud. Any Suggestion?

    perfect. ok do the following:
settings > mail, contacts, calendars > go into the exchange account. You should have an email in the account field...[email protected] or [email protected], etc.... I am assuming you don't remember the password to this exchange account so once you know the email, you can go to email providers site and click on forgot password and you will go through the steps to get a new password. Once you do this, you will need to go back into your "exchange account " and the field that has the exchange email > touch the > to open settings. Change the password to your new password you got from above. Once you do this, you can add the exchange account to your ipad and all of your contacts will sync to both devices.
    Please confirm.

  • HT5661 will I be able to restore a new iPad with a BackUp from a old one?

I have an iPad Model MD371LL/A that i'm selling. I will buy a new one as sonn it releases the new model.
Will I be able to restore a new iPad with a BackUp from a old one?

    Yes.
The only 'catch' you may encounter. Let's say your old one is running iOS 7.1.1, and your new one is running iOS 7.0.6, you will first need to update your new one to be running 7.1.1, then y ou can restore it from the backup of your old one and make it a near clone of the old one.
Chances are you won't encounter this, but there have been instances where folks get a broken ipad replaced and try to restore the new one from the backup of the old one and since the replacement is running an older iOS than the replaced one it doesn't work. In that case you set up the replacement long enough to update the iOS then restore it.
But, likely what will happen for you is what happened for me when I bought a new iPod Touch. I did a full backup of my old one then wiped it. Brought the new one home and during hte set up process I had a choice 'set up as new or restore from the backup of the old one'. I chose restore and my new one was a near clone of the old one. I still needed to set up wifi and enter a few passwords to websites, but the data and contents crossed over.
If you are selling your old one you may want to read this about wiping your device to make it usable by the buyer. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661

  • I have issues with icloud backup.

    Hi,
I am facing issues with icloud backup, i have successfully backed up data from iphone 5s to icloud with contacts, notes, calender, reminders etc.
Unfortunately i can not see the same information after logging in online from browser. After two days the data is restored to one year back icloud back up on my iphone 5s.
    Need help on this.

A backup of an iPhone using iCloud does not result in the ability to log in to iCloud and view the information (i.e., to see the actual data that was backed up). You can go on your iPhone to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > device name and see how much storage the latest backup is occupying and when it was done.
Things like Contacts that are viewable when logging in to iCloud.com are the result of having Settings > iCloud > Contacts (as an example) turned on to sync - which is a different thing than a backup.
The results of an iCloud backup are only rely viewable when restored back to an iOS device. I'm not sure any of that explanation helps with your current problem but it might help clarify the terminology that Apple uses.
