Trouble setting up wireless cameras with airport extreme

I am trying to set up my alarm dot com wireless cameras and am having trouble getting them to connect to my Airport Extreme. With my prior D-Link router, there was no issue, but since upgrading to the Extreme, I can get them to locate the network, but not connect.

Add me to the list of people with Netgear DM111P ADSL modem and AEBS(n)...I can connect fine to the internet directly from MB Pro to modem, and for the last couple months have used the Netgear with my trusty AEX, no problem.
Now I finally get my AEBS from Canada (here in Dubai, UAE) and I have wasted hours trying to get on the internet with the AEBS. I have it configured exactly the same as the AEX is! One works fine, the other not at all. Exasperating.
I am using the Netgear with PPPoA Bridging (the correct setting for the ISP here and what works with the AEX and direct connection). The AEBS shows it is getting the IP correctly and has a solid green light. My MB Pro shows it is getting an IP from the AEBS's DHCP server. And shows entries for the DNS servers.
Yet..no internet. From the number of complaints with this exact same setup...it ain't me...I have used and configured over a dozen routers and modems from all major manufacturers, used DSL/ADSL/cable, PPPoe, PPPoA, etc etc...and I'm stumped.
This is NOT a typical Mac product. I am not happy. If someone figures this out, you will have my admiration.

  • Can I use powerline wireless adapters with airport extreme

can I use power line wireless adapters with airport extreme?

    Can this work?
    Yes
I read somewhere that powerline adapters are not compatible with Airport.
    That information is not correct.
If the AirPort Extreme is already set up as your "main" router, you would connect a short Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Extreme to the power line adapter.
Locate another adapter in the area where you want to use the AirPort Express and connect a short Ethernet cable from the adapter to the Express.
Configure the Express to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, same security settings and and same password as the AirPort Extreme network and select the Bridge Mode setting for the Express so that it work correctly on the network.

  • Extend wireless network with Airport Extreme n and Airport Express g

I have a 4th generation Airport Exteme (n) and an older Airport Express (g) and would like to use the Airport Express to extend my network to the other end of my house, where the signal is very weak. When I tried to set it up tonight, my Airport Extreme disappeared all together and I had to do a hard reset to get it back. I am using a macbook pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.7.2.  Are there any current insturctions to do this?

Here's a Youtube video of how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3EdbRfX1_w
I had the same set up you do. I did not have success with the Express g. And in my case I had much better success when I sold the Express g on ebay, bought an Express N from the refurb store, so it only cost around $20 get something that is much more reliable.
I quickly tried to find an Apple Support tech note for you but didn't, post back if you need more.

  • How to print with a wireless printer with airport extreme

how to print with a wireless printer with airport extreme

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.
    http://stevejenkins.com/blog/2010/01/using-the-local-default-gateway-with-a-wind ows-vpn-connection/
    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • Setting up a WDS with airport extreme and Belkin router

    Hi,
I had my airport extreme base station set up with a linksys router (the common one everyone has) and it worked fine. I moved and now am trying to set it up with a Belkin F5D7234-4, and have not been able to get it to work. I have tried both the WLAN and the LAN MAC addresses. Is there something I am missing? Thanks

Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your Belkin router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
The few Belkin routers, that are known to work are models: F5D7230-4 and F5D7231

  • Extend Time Capsule Wireless Network with Airport Extreme

I tried to install two base stations in my house. The first one is the Time Capsule which I use as my main router connected to the DSL modem by Ethernet and which has the main wireless network. The second is an Airport Extreme Base Station which tries to connect wirelessly to Time Capsule to extend the wireless network. I use WPA2 Personal as a security mode and it says there is an error at the end when it reconfigures the Airport Base Station --- questions: does it normally work with these two devices in that order? What process to make it work?”

use Airport Utility manual set up button and place the secondary router in bridge mode then configure your wireless setting.

  • Extend a E4200v2 wireless network with airport extreme

I have a E4200v2 i also have a Airport Extreme I want to use this to extend my wireless range in my house? I've played around a little tring to configure the Airport extreme but can't seem to get it to connect to my E4200v2?
Can you mod the Airprt Extreme with dd-wrt or something that might unlock some of the features?
I can't stand the interface. The E4200v2 is brand new.

Before I suggest you for any trouble shooting steps, I would like to as few questions. Is you Linksys/Cisco router can able to access the Internet. If YES then try the following steps
    1. After unpacking your Airport Extreme, connect the ethernet cable from your jack to the leftmost ethernet port on the back of the Airport. This is the WAN port marked with the small circular image. Next plug the AC adapter into the power port on the Airport and plug it into the wall.
    2. Once the Airport Extreme has been plugged into the network and powered on, the status light on the front will go through a series of colored flashes. When the status light glows solid green, your Airport has been initialized and is connected to the network. This may take a few minutes. If your status light fails to glow solid green, please consult your manual for status light explanations.
    3. Make sure the wireless card on your computer is enabled and turned on. Connect to your Airport Extreme, which will most likely appear as Apple Network followed by some letters.
    4. Next install the Airport software from the included CD. After installation, launch the Airport Utility application. This is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X, and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows.
Please keep in mind that the Airport Utility is released with a new version every few months, so the screen shots you see below may not look exactly like what you see on your computer.
    5. Select your base station, and then click Continue.
    6. Enter a Wireless Network Name and a Base Station Name and click Continue. Write these names down for future reference.
    7. Enter your Country and Radio Mode on the next screen. Using 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) is the proper choice in most cases. Click Continue.
    8. Select WPA2 Personal security on the next screen, then enter a Wireless Network Password and Verify it. This password must be between 8 and 63 characters. You should write this password down and keep it near your Airport Extreme in case you forget it. Click Continue.
    9. Select "I connect to my local area network (LAN)" on the next screen and click Continue.
    10. Leave the default settings (Using DHCP) on the next screen and click Continue.
    11. If you are interested in connecting USB peripherals to your Airport, consult your manual for additional information. Otherwise leave the default settings and click Continue.
    12. Enter a Base Station Password and Verify it. Write this password down and keep it near your Airport Extreme. You will need it if you ever want to modify any settings for your base station. Click Continue.
    13. Click Update. Your Airport Extreme base station has been configured and will now restart. Quit the Airport Utility and connect to your new wireless network.
Check whether it helps you or not..

  • Having trouble setting up file sharing through Airport Extreme

Hi, I am trying to set up file sharing on my USB hard drive through the Airport Extreme, on my HP laptop with Windows XP. I went through the steps in manual setup in Airport Utilities, and my hard drive shows up under the Disk Utility in the Airport Utilities, but the problem is that I cannot figure out a way to find the hard drive from Windows XP. Should it show up in My Computer? I've spent a few hours trying to figure it out and I am close to giving up. If anyone can help me solve this problem, I'd really appreciate it!!!

I have this issue, too. Did you find a solution since you first posted?

  • How to Set Up Time Capsule With Airport Extreme and Airport Express

Just got a new 1TB Time Capsule. I want it to be the main base station for my network. I already have a network set up with an older Airport Extreme base station and an Airport Express to extend it. I am thinking that rather than setting up the Time Capsule to "join" the old network, the best approach is to disconnect the Airport Extreme and Airport Express and reset them. Then set up the Time Capsule as a brand new network and bring the reset Aiport Extreme and Express onto the new network as if my original network never existed.
Is that the right approach or am I complicating it? Can I just join the Time Capsule to the existing network and still make it the main base station for the network?

I'd first use AirPort Utility to "Save a Copy As" of your AirPort Extreme settings. Then disconnect it, connect the Time Capsule in its place, and use AirPort Utility's "Import" function to read those settings. (Both of those functions are under AirPort Utility's "File" menu.) You may have to adjust a few settings. Once you have the Time Capsule working as you want, you can reconfigure your AirPort Extreme unit as you wish.

Is it possible to set up a home network using airport extreme that will be a non-internet option?
    Yes
Not connected to the internet wifi.
If the AirPort Exteme is not connected to the Internet, then Internet connections will not be available on wireless or wired connections.

  • Wireless Printing with Airport Extreme just stopped

Strangely, it is not working on one of my 3 computers only! Was working with all 3, today it would not print from my iMac with Intel 2.33 GHz.
No problem recognizing the printer. When I print the printer comes on, the printer head moves normally but a blank page comes out.
I have tried all the suggestions from Apple under the heading "Top Searches", subheading "Aiport Extreme/Express wireless printing" and I have also repaired disk permissions but nothing has changed.
Why would wireless printing work in an older computer and not a newer one? I have all the latest updates in BOTH the iMac and my Power Book so I can't blame a Security Update etc.
    What now?
iMac Intel 2.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Power Book G4, HP PSC 2410 All-in-one
iMac Intel 2.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Power Book G4, HP PSC 2410 All-in-one

The exact problem for me. I also have checked all me settings, they seem to be
the way they should, but I can not get to print whatever.
I hope someone tell us what to do to make the printer work in an Airport
    Extreme connection
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Airport Extreme Base Station and 2 Airport Express

  • Wireless Printing with Airport Extreme?

I have a iMac(OS-X 10.3.9) and an Airport Extreme (white model) I wish to hook up my Epson USB printer to the Airport Extreme and use the Airport as a wireless printer router. It says I can now print from any Mac on my network using OS 10.2.3 or later. However, I have a windows XP (boo! Hiss! long story) on my network also. Can I use the Airport Extreme to print from my Windows wireless machine too and how do you set it up?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Moosewood
I don't think the folk in this forum know too much about windows. I suggest you post in the
Windows Compatibility forum, and i hope you get a better response. If not try the Airport forum.
    good luck.

  • Trying to reconnect or restart wireless network with airport extreme

So I have had an airport extreme for 7 months, it stopped working and I returned it and got a new one. Tried to set it up and at first it would show that a wireless network was available but I couldn't connect. So I rebooted it and now now the amber light is blinking. Also airport utility does not recognize my extreme. What can I do. It was so simple to set up originally.

Hi, philsnc94. Welcome to the forums!
Connect your computer to one of the Extreme's Ethernet LAN ports. This should allow AirPort Utility to find your Extreme. Use AirPort Utility to set up the Extreme as desired. Then, if you want, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable connecting the computer to the Extreme and instead have the computer connect to the Extreme's wireless network.
    Does this work?

  • Extending N600 wireless network with Airport Extreme, wirelessly

For the past year or so I have run a Netgear N600 wireless modem router, and have extended the network with a first generation A1143 Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). Prior to this I have run the same extended network with an older Netgear router - successfully for 5 years.
After a recent lightning strike, the N600 router needed resetting. Everything was back to normal, however I was unable to reconnect the old AEBS to the network as before. I did this so that I could wirelessly back up the laptops to a connected HDD by Time Machine
Figuring that maybe this was the end of life for the old AEBS, I went out today and bought a new 5th generation AEBS, expecting that I could reconnect everything as I have been running with this router, and the old Netgear router before that without a problem.
Now though, with the new AEBS, I still cannot extend the network. Ive tried everything including connecting it via ethernet to the Netgear Router.
I can only surmise that there is something different in the N600 settings that have changed, than now do not allow me to connect.
Ive even reinstalled Mountain Lion, and also Airport Utility, and trashed preferences...to no avail. Can someone please help? Have I just wasted $200 on a new AEBS?
Im running a Retina MBP and a MBAir

Who wants to use WEP these days... I need apple to update the airport so we can use WPA together with wireless hardware from 3d parties like dd-wrt.
I have 2 airport expresses doing nothing atm because of the lack of SAFE encryption with WDS.

  • Trouble connecting to wireless from installed Airport Extreme

I just installed an Airport Extreme card into my dual 1.8mhz G5. I followed the steps on installing and everything seems to work. It is recognized in the network preferences as an Airport option. I have been unsucessful in connecting to the wireless connection. I do have a laptop G4 and I am able to connect without trouble. But I am not able to figure out why I can not configure the G5 to see the same wireless network. I have typed in the same wireless name as the laptop into "other" on the G5 but it does not recoginize it. Please advise.

As I'm typing, I'm connected wirelessly. Don't ask me how it happened. I had installed Airport utility and it couldn't find the network. I opened up Network Connections through the control panel, immediately found the network, clicked on Change Settings of this Connection, clicked Configure, didn't change anything, then clicked on View Status of this Connection, and lo and behold, I'm suddenly connected. Tell me I'm not crazy!
