Trouble starting a new site in Dreamweaver

Hi there, I'm fairly new to all of this. I'm trying to start a new site, but when I click "site", "new site", and give my site a name and folder (which is on my desktop, just named "New folder"), I go to save and I get the error message:
"The root folder you have chosen is inside the folder for site ‘gif animation test’. This may cause some operations, such as synchronization, to work incorrectly. Proceed anyway?"
The confusing thing is that 'gif animation test' is a folder I created weeks ago. No matter what file I select, it seems to try to save to this folder, essentially making it so that I can't create a new site. Does anybody know how I can fix this?

Do you have a site defined for "gif animation test"? Can you delete it from DW (the site definition, not the files)?
I find it is usually trouble when people put sites on their desktop, especially when they are inexperienced. What I'd suggest you consider is creating a folder called Web Sites in your documents folder. Then each new site you build would have a root folder in that Web Sites folder, for example -
C:/Documents/Web Sites/Site A
C:/Documents/Web Sites/Site B
C:/Documents/Web Sites/Site C
etc.
Make sense?

Spry won't let me start a new site? Help

SO I have read ever tutorial and forum with simalar problems and none of them seem to help me. I haven't worked with Dreamweaver since 2001. I am on CS5. Ever time I try to start my new site I get " WARNING: The Spryassets folder is not inside the site. Please select a valid folder in your local site root." I have watched a read all of the tutorials and none of them address this issue. I have even tried creating a Srpy assets folder within my site folder.
Also I'm on a Mac and everything seems to give instruction for PC.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the Site Setup for yoursite dialog box, go to Advanced Settings -> Spry and enter similar information as below in the Asset Folder

I want to make a new site in dreamweaver and host it on business cstalyst

I want to make a NEW site in Dreamweaver CC and host it on the Business Catalyst platform.But it seems the only way to use dreamweaver in business Catalyst is to import a BC template into Dreamweaver then upload it to BC. I want to create an original site and use the BC platform, is that possible? This seems like it should be simple and automatic, even encouraged. But as of now the only way to create an original site is to use Adobe Muse. Which is weird, seems like Adobe missed this one somewhere...

I don't think you understand: I want to open Dreamweaver and build a brand new site, then when I am done I want to host the dreamweaver site on the Business Catalyst platform. I dont want to use anything in BC to build the site, I just want to use the hosting platform. I do not want to import a BC site into dreamweaver or anything like that. I just want to use BC the same way I would use godaddy, or uhost or any other hosting provider. Based on your response you said that "of course its possible to build a BC site in Dreamweaver" I dont want to build a BC site, I want to build a Dreamweaver site and host it on the BC platform. Like I said before it doesnt seem like this is possible. As of now we can only build a new site in MUSE and integrate it into BC without using a BC template. Can you understand what I am saying. I DONT WANT TO USE A BC TEMPLATE, I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH BC WHILE I AM BUILDING THE SITE WITH DREAMWEAVER, JUST LIKE MUSE DOES.

Can't create new sites in Dreamweaver CS3. Help!

I am trying to create a new site in Dreamweaver CS3 but keep
getting the following error:
"The action cannot be completed because the other program is
busy.
Choose 'Switch to' to activate the program and correct the
problem"
I have tried every documented solution on the adobe website
and other discussion forums and still cannot get past the problem.
I have restarted the IIS server on my local PC as documented
on the following adobe technote:

Other things I have done:
1. I have followed all the advice in the links at the bottom
of the above page.
2. I have created a new user, logged into that and tried
creating a site with a "virgin" environment
and I still have the problem.
3. I have gone into the registry and renamed the site
configuration info in case something was corrupted.
This removed all my site configurations. No help!
4. I have turned of my firewall and restarted the IIS
server.
5. I have searched the web for anything even remotely
similar to this error and tried every tip out there.
I called Adobe and they referred me back to the technote
above, which I had already tried.
One last bit of info. I can't create new sites, but I can
edit web pages in my existing sites. However, I cannot change the
configuration of the website in the Manage Sites area (i.e. I can't
push the Edit button).
Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be appreciated. I
have hit a brick wall on this one and am trying to meet a deadline
on a new website I need to create.
If I can't find a solution quick, I will be an
ex-Dreamweaver user. That saddens me because I really like
Dreamweaver, but I have to perform on my job.

Are you trying to DEFINE a new site in DW? All you need to do is to create a folder on your hard drive, and browse to and select that folder while in the Site manager's New Site dialog.
Or are you puzzling over the fact that your site list dropdown contains icons for your desktop, local disk(s) and mapped drives? Just ignore them at this moment, and follow the suggestion above.

How to setup new site in dreamweaver if not working with Local Site Folder?

Dear All,
I am working with a website design (wordpress) project with a group of people, since we are working together on the same design, our developing site is not located in the local folder but on remote server, but I can't setup the website in DW if the developing site is not located locally.
Is there any way to do the development on remote server with DW, and what will be the site setup setting for it?

Sharing a "Local" site is a recipe for disaster vis-a-vis file versioning. The best way to avoid these problems is to have three locations defined:
1. A local site (truly local to your computer, although it can be on a network, shared drive).
2. A staging site (this would be the intermediate holding site for partially finished work.
3. A production site (this would be where the final versions of files are pushed).
Enable DW's Checkin/Checkout facility. Each of you would checkout files from the staging server, and when finished editing, checkin those same files to the staging server. Thus, you are not sharing a local site - you are sharing a remote file repository, which is your gold standard source for version protected files.

Trouble Starting Using New 4th Gen Touch

Just got a IPod Touch 4th Gen. As soon as I connect to the computer it wants me to update to the new version 10.5.8 version of mac or later! Can I update my Mac and how! We tried but we are obviously doing something or not understanding this process? I feel like I have to purchase a new computer in order to use the new IPod 4th Gen touch! Please help!!

Dreamweaver CS5 - Can't create new site ( SpryAssets)

Hi guys,
i tried starting a new site in Dreamweaver CS 5 but it's not possible because of needing a SpryAssets folder. No, i know how to create a site, but since Dreamweaver is installed on OS X Lion, i can't get it to work. I do every thing like I am supposed to do, but nothing helps. I've seen many people with that problem so there must be any help. Please dont just post links on how to create a site, i know that but my problem looks more like a bug and not like a problem because of myself.

hope I understood you correctly: Please let's first talk about your directory structure. I for my part use something like that:
Now MY DW has no problems in finding my "SpryAssets" folder. Please control your pathes. In DW source code sometimes these ../ or ../../ can be helpful too.
... and better, please send a link to your webite in question, no matter how it looks like.

Dreamweaver CS3 - Cannot create root and image folder in Site Management. (Create New Site)

Good day everyone,
I am not able to create folders for a new site in Dreamweaver CS3.
This is the problem:
I open Dreamweaver
I go to site and click on create new site
In the new site panel I name the site eg: Test Site
Then I click on the browse folder to attached a root folder and image folder for the site
This is where the problem starts, when I browse to the folders, Dreamweaver does not keep the location/path.
Like this: My folder is created in the following directory.
C:\xampp\htdocs\my_site_folder
So when I browse to this folder and click save
the path does not stay in Dreamweaver, all the stays is this.
C:\xampp\htdocs\
The site name does not remain.
I cannot get Dreamweaver to hold the path.
Same for the image folder.
I noticed this started to happened after I updated Vista to Service pack 2.
I have never seen this happen before.
Anyone have any ideas?

No folders in new sites

When I define new sites in Dreamweaver CS3 no folders such as
Images, Templates, Scripts or cgi bin are being created. Why is

They aren't created by dreamweaver.
If you start a page from one of the built in Sample pages, dw
will create
some folders to store the images and css in.

Creating a new site

Whats going on with creating a new site using Dreamweaver CS4? When I create a new site and select the 'Local Root Folder' & 'Default images folder' I always have to go up one folder level.
For example if my site was located here 'C:\Users\Me\Documents\Websites\Mindfully\' and I selected that folder from within dreamweaver it wouldnt select that folder! The actual folder it would select is this 'C:\Users\Me\Documents\Websites\' for me to select the 'Mindfully' folder I would have to go into a sub folder of 'Mindfully' e.g. 'C:\Users\Me\Documents\Websites\Mindfully\images\'. The same stands when selecting the 'Default images folder' I would have to create a sub folder within the 'images' folder or type the path in manually.
I actually thought this was a problem with my old machine but today I upgraded to a Dell XPS Studio machine and the exact same problem is occuring and I have all updates installed!
Has anyone any suggestions as to what the bloody problem is?

Agreed. I'm disappointed that no patch has yet been issued. Hope we don't have to go on explaining this for the next 12 months.

Ok. So Photos1.htm is the main gallery page.
And it looks like you have sub-folders with images in them like these from 2011 and 2010

Have you defined a site in DW yet? That's a critical first step in getting DW to recognize your site's links and other assets. See video below:

Can somebody explane how can I get iweb to open a new site or page?

I can't start a new site or page...since I've moved some page among different sites and the program got stuck. I did quit to start it again, but now it's not possibel to use iWeb.

I was reading futher the forum about deleting pages and sites and someone sugest to delete first a file from Preferences folder under Library.
And it's works on the first hit!
