Trouble starting X window

Fresh install of Arch (after much head banging :>), followed the guide from start to finish (EFI install) but after installing xorg I can't start it.
Adapter
04:03.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd. MGA G200eW WPCM450 (rev 0a)
I've tried both MGA drivers
I installed xorg-server, server-utils and xinit

Haven't even installed a DE, I was going to install Gnome once I'd gotten X up and running. I have had a few previous failed attempts at installing, the first was due to me not setting up the EFI partition correctly, the second was successful but I at the end I installed some xorg packages, xf86-video-mga driver and gnome but on boot it would hang.
e2a: the vesa driver is the only one that actually does anything but sadly all it does is mess up my display

  • Trouble starting multihost windows

    I'm running out of CPU doing a single host test, so I need another host.  I've tried many things, but so far nothing has worked.
    I have two windows boxes setup and I can run vdbench separately on each of them just fine.  I start the multihost workload attempt by opening a command window and issuing the command "vdbench rsh" and leaving it running.  I then go to the other windows box and try to start the multihost test with vdbench -f <file>.
    My parameter file looks like this:
    hd=default,vdbench=\Users\Administrator\Documents\vdbench50402,user=Administrator
    * hd=one,system=one.xxx.yyy.com
    hd=two,system=two.xxx.yyy.com
    sd=sd1,host=two,lun=\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE1
    sd=sd2,host=two,lun=\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2
    wd=wd1,sd=(sd1,sd2),seekpct=random
    rd=run1,wd=wd1,elapsed=300,interval=60,pause=30,forrdpct=(100,0,60),forxfersize=(4k,8k,32k,64k),io=curve,iorate=100,warmup=60
    When I attempt to run the test, I get a message: Slave two-0 prematurely terminated.  Look at file two-0-0.stdout.html ...
    The two-0-0.stdout.html file contains this:
    14:59:14.348 'rsh' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    14:59:14.348 operable program or batch file.
    Any suggestions or pointers?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

    hd=default,vdbench=\Users\Administrator\Documents\vdbench50402,user=Administrator
    one parameter is missing:
    hd=default,vdbench=\Users\Administrator\Documents\vdbench50402,user=Administrator,shell=vdbench
    Vdbench is now using the default, which is RSH, and that does not exist.
    Henk.

              2)node manager is running on both machines
              3)An admin server myserver on the local machine at port 7001
              4)In the admin tree under Machines a new machine is created 'Machine1' with Node manager Listen Address: 172.17.2.201
              5) The managed server 'BEAServerMan1 ' instance is created with listen Address 172.17.2.201 and port 7705. This Server is assigened to Machine1. The server also belongs to a cluster 'Cluster1' where the 172.17.2.201:7705 is part of the Cluster Address.

  • Trouble starting v3.2

    Hello all,
    I'm having trouble starting Photoshop Album Starter Edition v3.2 on a WinXP SP2 machine.
    When I double click the icon, I get the splash screen, then it just freezes.  In the fine print near the lower left hand corner, the last thing it gets to is "Initializing Model".
    I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, still same issue.
    I found some old thread suggesting repairing the MDAC component on the machine, which I did, then rebooted and tried again.  Still no fix.  I've also seen some references to a log file that may give additional information, but don't know where that log file is.
    Anyone else had this issue and fixed it?  Anyone have any additional suggestions I can try?
    Thanks!

    I had the same problem.  Figuring the uninstall wasn't removing everything, I did some exploring.  By checking the registry, I found that the Adobe Photoshop Album SE was pointing to a directory where the catalog was being stored and maintained.  These files were not deleted upon an uninstall and nor were they overwritten (even during a repair).  Consequently, upon a new install, the program would attempt to load the original catalog file, which I deduced was corrupt, causing the program to lock up.
    To fix the problem (Windows XP), I did the following:
    Navigate to the directory, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album.  Delete all of the files and subdirectories.  It should be noted that Application Data is a hidden file/subdirectory.  To view hidden files, do the following from Windows Explorer (the window that opens when you view directory contents/files):  Select Tools, Folder Options and then the View tab.  Check the radial button by Show hidden files and folders.  Select Apply to All Folders and then select OK.
    Install Adobe Photoshop Album SE again.  If you still have the program installed, just select "Repair" on the reinstall.
    Open Adobe Photoshop Album SE.  Cancel the opening dialog screen which asks you to search directories for pictures.  Select the File tab (upper left). Select Get Photos from the drop down menu, then From Files and Folders.  Browse to the main directory where you have stored your photos.  Check the box Get Photos from Subfolders, then select Get Photos.  You may have to repeat this several times depending on where you stored all of your pictures. This process rebuilds your catalog file.  Hopefully, this will solve your problem.

  • HP director doesn't start in Windows 8.1

    Have just purchased a new desktop which has Windows 8.1 installed. Have installed the software for PSC 2175 All in one which include the HP Director to manage the printer including scanning. This worked in Windows XP but doesn't start in Windows 8.1. Have run the HP trouble shooter which says that sacn does work. Should it even though there are messages saying there are compatibilty issues.

    Hello @manzagol ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
    I understand that you are haveing problems with HP director and windows 8.1.
    I would like to help.
    In 2004 HP director was replaced by the HP solution center.
    The software you are trying to use is over ten years old.
    This would be why it has compatibility issues.
    since you are running windows 8.1, try the HP Scan and Capture app.
    This should give you the ability to scan to your computer without the HP director.

  • How do I stop iTunes from starting with Windows?

    Hi there.
    After installing iTunes 7, it launches with Windows despite there being no registry entries or Startup folder entries. I also can't find any preference settings in iTunes to change this. I don't want iTunes starting with Windows as it's a CPU hot and system drag as it is without it slowing down my startup.
    What's even more odd I find is that, if for whatever reason iTunes does NOT start with Windows, I don't have an Internet connection. It's strange but the connection between the two is absolute. If I reboot and iTunes starts with Windows, I have my Internet back.
    Any suggestions? I can't find anything through searches. I've also checked for viruses, spyware, backdoors, etc.
    Thanks.
    Custom   Windows XP

    It turns out it was the Yahoo iTunes plugin.

  • Firefox 4.0.1 closes with no error message. When I restore the session I get: Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page. What can I do?

    After opening certain websites, pogo, firefox 4.0.1 closes with no error message. When I restore the session I get: Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    I have had this problem before and had to reinstall an earlier version of firefox.
    The error console has a long list of errors, many of them end with: does not implement nsIObserver. Is there a way to send the information on the error console to firefox support?
    Redownloading Firefox 4.0 will fix my problem until I either close firefox or turn off my computer. The problem recurs when I open firefox again.

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+crashes
    It is also possible that there is a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
    Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
    If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

  • How can I run a java-application on starting of Windows 2000

    How can I run a java-application without any user on starting of Windows 2000?
    For example, if the computer is restarted and nobody enter into it yet, my java-application should run anyway.
    How can I do that?

    Hi, you have to put it in a Windows service.
    To do this you have a program, Srvany.exe that allow to insert a .exe or .bat program in a Windows service.
    For example, i develop a program, TomcatGuardian and i put it in a service because i need to run it in a server without Administrator logged in.

  • Why does Firefox not acknowledge that I have Silverlight already installed. When trying to work with "Getting Started" in Windows 7, it keeps telling me I have to download Silverlight to view this information.

    I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 OS. When trying to learn the transition experience from Windows XP to this new OS version, I was presented with this problem of going around in circles.
    When trying to view "Discover Windows 7" via "Start>Getting Started>Discover Windows 7", a Microsoft website opens to; (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/videos/personalizing-your-pc). It tells me; To view this contents, please install Microsoft Silverlight. Once I install it and get back to this page, I get the same message. I can not view any of the help content before installing Microsoft Silverlight. So now it is a never ending "CIRCLE of LIGHT"! Is this a problem with my Firefox or with Windows Microsoft 7?

    I'm not seeing the Silverlight plugin in your More system details list, so Firefox doesn't find it if you have it.
    I assume that you also do not see it in Tools > Add-ons > Plugins ?

  • Stuck at "starting login window" and Disk Utility won't fix it...

    I downloaded some security updates, and since restarting my computer as required, I have never been able to start it up since. It gets stuck on the "starting login window" screen, with the little blue bar still shimmering and mouse still moving, but just won't ever load the login screen, even after hours.
    I've seen a few other people have had this problem, and tried to follow some of the recommendations, with no joy. I tried several times to repair the disk permissions with Disk Utility, but it has an internal error saying it lost the connection to the disk manager, or something similar.... when I try to repair the disk, it fails saying something about "overlapped extent allocations" and an "invalid node structure".
    I can start up in single-user mode, and doing a fsck had the same result.
    What can I do??? Some people suggested an Archive and Install manoeuvre, but I'm scared of losing all my files! Will it erase them all? Do I have to back up all my files before doing this? How can I back them up if my computer won't start?
    I know almost nothing about computers - all I know I have found in the past few days searching through these discussion boards trying to find an answer! I have an important essay due on Monday which is stuck in my computer, so I'm a little scared!
    I'm using Mac OS X Panther or something.... not sure how to find out exactly which one, as my computer won't start!
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    iBook G4

    Hi, you have some serious directory damage there, and it was probably there before the updates. An Archive and Install would not be recommended. If you did that you would likely have more problems then you have right now.
    If it were me I'd run Diskwarrior and Tech Tool Pro on it. DW for the invalid node structure and Tech Tool Pro for the Overlapped Extent Allocation. But you probably would have to buy both of them, and there's no guarantee either one will fix it.
    Apple doc.#25770, talking about Overlap..... says the easiest way to fix it is to Erase and Install. If you are running 10.3.9 and had access to a retail Tiger disk, you could try booting up on it and running Disk Utility. Tigers DU has the ability to fix Overlap.... sometimes, Panther's does'nt.
    This is the best way to Erase and Install. First backup all your important stuff, if you can, as the following will erase everything on your drive; it will be unrecoverable. Put your install disk in your Mac and Restart while holding down the C key. In Tiger, When you get to the install screen, don't click install and go to the title bar at the top of the screen and click on Utilities (in earlier OS's click on the installer menu).
    Click on Disk Utility and choose the hard drive you want your OS on. Then click on the Erase tab. In Tiger, click on the Security Options button near the bottom (it's similiar for Panther and Jaguar).
    Once in there choose Zero Out Data (write zero's in earlier versions). This will map out any bad blocks on your drive and bring it back to almost new condition (providing there's nothing wrong mechanically with it, bad bearings, defective or damaged surface, etc.).
    Once this is done, go back to the install screen and begin the "Erase and Install" installation. This will put a factory fresh system on a clean hard drive.
    Cheers!

    Hi there,
    The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.

  • Having trouble creating the windows 8 installation usb using bootcamp

    Hello Everyone,
    I am trying to install windows 8 on my early 2013 MacBook Pro retina. I am using Mavericks if that matters. I have got the iso file that I need but I am having troube creating the install disk/usb. Everytime I go to create it, I get an error message telling me that the drive could not be formatted properly. I have looked up possible solutions but nothing seems to work, I have unmounted the iso file, tried putting it on the Mac's HD but nothing I do works. Please help.

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    After using Boot Camp, your computer will start always in Windows. To start in OS X, just hold the X key while your Mac is starting. If you want to start always in OS X, after starting in OS X, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select the OS X partition.
    By default, Windows can't read the filesystem that OS X uses for the partition, so that's why you can't access to the OS X partition. Also, you should have burnt the drivers onto a DVD or a USB drive.
    As you have already downloaded the drivers, after starting in OS X, copy them to a USB drive or burn them into a DVD. Then, start in Windows and install them. Note that Windows 8 requires Boot Camp 5 drivers, that you can only get from Boot Camp Assistant if you are running OS X 10.8.3. If you want to be sure that you install the correct drivers, I recommend you to download again the Boot Camp 5 drivers from the Apple webpage > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638

  • If you've changed your startup options on mac to start in windows, how do you fix and go back to mac on startup?

    if you've changed your startup options on mac to start in windows, how do you fix and go back to mac. I can't get my mac to switch back to mac, it is like stuck in widows mode, I have tried holding down the options key upon start up and that did not fix it either.
    Please help! Thank you so much!

    The Apple drivers you install in Windows also puts a Startup Drive icon in the Task Bar. Choose that to change the startup disk back OS X.
