Trouble Syncing iPhone after 1.1.4

After finishing the *1.1.4 update* both my wife and my iPhone's are *unable to sync the Contacts/Calendars/Photo's etc*. One gets and error that reads "*iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the iPhone is disconnected*" which it is not. The other iPhone gets a completely different error that says "*The iPhone cannot be synced, an unknown error occurred (-50).*"
We should be completely up to speed. Our laptop is a 15" MacBook Pro 2.16 running OS X 10.5.2, iTunes 7.6.1 (9), 8GB iPhone's *(never jailbroken)*, and the same sync cable that was used to install 1.1.4. I have restarted the laptop as well as both iPhones... still no dice!
HELP!

Thanks for the link BUT as you can see we both are working on a mac with Leopard 10.5.2 and not M$...
I managed to circumvent the problem with the brutal method. Reinitaliserd the ipod on an other machine (Mac Pro). Complete reinstall...
I agree it's not the really elegant way but at least it works. I hope apple will make some effort to improve their software releases in the futur. Every upgrade I made since one year, be it OS X or ipod came with huge bugs making me loose hours and hours of reinstall etc. As I never worked with PC's I guess that is close to the feeling PC users get...

Error message while syncing iPhone after Leopard Upgrade to 10.5.2 : "The application AppleMobileSync quit unexpectedly" -- Anybody had the same trouble after this system upgrade? Any remedy advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Usually when this error message comes up, there is either corrupt data on the iphone or the computer.
First of all, disconnect the iphone and completely quit itunes.
Now, reset sync history as per the steps previously posted.
Next, open itunes and itunes preferences (itunes at the top of the screen > preferences).
Then go to the syncing or iphone tab and check the box to disable automatic syncing with all iphones and ipods.
Now click ok to close the preferences pane.
Connect your ipod and go to the info tab.
Set itunes to replace contacts and calendar information with what is on the computer.
Click apply in the bottom right corner.
If it is something in the iphone that is causing this error, this should overwrite it.
To narrow down what is causing this error on the computer, watch itunes when syncing the iphone to see what is trying to sync when this error comes up.
After the error message comes up, go into the iphone settings in itunes and uncheck the last thing itunes was trying to sync(usually contacts or calendars), then click apply in the bottom right corner.
This will start the sync process again.
If it is contacts that is causing this error, try creating a group in address book, move a few contacts into the group.
Then sync only that group to the iphone.
Keep this process up until you've narrowed down which contact or contacts is causing the issue.
If it is calendars causing the issue, you would go through the same process with a new calendar.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trouble Syncing iPhone with Windows XP computer

I have had my iPhone for over a month and today was the first time I had any trouble syncing it. The computer I sync it with is a Dell with Windows XP Professional as the OS. I have tried the steps suggested by Apple on the support site (Restart, re-install, reset, etc), as well as a few I found on the net, but have had no luck.
It seems my computer is recognizing the iPhone as a camera(possibly the problem?) but iTunes does not see it.
Anyone have any advice before I give a call to tech support?
    Thanks.

If your computer is only seeing the iphone as a camera then the apple mobile device support driver is being blocked.
What you might have to do is uninstall one more time, but in this order.
open control panel > add/remove programs.
uninstall the following items in this order.
    1. Apple Mobile Device Support
    2. Apple software update.
    3. itunes
    4. quicktime.
Then download and install the latest itunes.
If that does not resolve the issue, you may need to use msconfig to find out what is blocking the iphone driver.
If you decide to use msconfig, this article from the apple support website will help out.

  • Trouble syncing iPhone 4s with iTunes (sync won't start)

When I plug my iPhone 4s into my computer, both my computer and iTunes recognize it and nothing seems out of the ordinary until I try and sync the phone with iTunes. After pushing the sync button, the top of itunes says "Syncing iPhone (step 1 of 7)", and under that "waiting for sync to start", but after a minute or so a pop up box appears that says the sync could not be completed because it failed to start. I've tried all my USB ports, multiple cables, both my phone and itunes are completely up to date. Any idea what could cause this problem?

Is 10.6.6 the current 10.6 version?
If not, update to the current version.

Update to the latest version of iTunes and Install software updates on your Mac.

  • Trouble Syncing iPhone

I have been having trouble lately syncing my iPhone with my iTunes. I have synced several times before to the iTunes on this computer (mac G4). But lately it either just does not see my iPhone, or if it does, it gives me a "device Time out" error. I tried to "restore To Original Settings" as well, but to no avail. Any ideas what I should do? Anybody else have the same issue?

having the same issue. I've synced it plenty of times, but I often get the time out warning or have to force quit Itunes after it hangs on docking the phone. Today after multiple reboots I still could not get iTunes to recognize the phone though it has in the past...
I too use a g4 quicksilver tower. I think we have older usb ports and not usb2. could this be the issue? As i said, ive synced it lots of times in the past, but its unreliable. so if the usb ports are the reason...its not 100% incompatible. very strange. Probabably buying a new mac when the new os is released, but this has been an annoying issue for me since June29th that Id like to understand and resolve...

  • Trouble Syncing Iphone 2G 2.0.1 fmw with Exchange ActiveSync

    Hello,
I have some troubles to sync my iphone 2G 2.0.1 with my Exchange server.
All the requirement in the server side is ok, there is many PocketPc that sync with this exchange server without problem.
I've configured my Iphone with all the correct informations.
In the server side, i have a reverse proxy with Apache2 that works fine for the pocketpc.
When i check the reverseproxy, i can see good connection with pocketpcs :
    *"POST /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync?User=hsimpson&DeviceId=IMEI569321544668056&DeviceT ype=IMEI569321544668056&Cmd=Sync HTTP/1.1" 200 250*
when i check the reverse proxy with an attempt of my iphone, i get this :
*"OPTIONS /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync HTTP/1.1" 403 229* and i get an error from the Iphone that says that we cannot finish the configuration. I know that the 403 mean that this is a forbidden access, but why ?
I don't understand why it works with ppc and not with my iphone.
Why does the pocketpcs start with POST and my iphone with OPTIONS ?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I have the same issue in my iPhone 4S (IOS 5.1.1). 3 others in my company have the same situation.
The problem started last Friday. I have not changed anything in my iPhone.
I tried turning off iCloud contacts sync, I tried recreate my Exchange account. I tried a complete reinstall.
After that I could do a full sync on Sunday.
On Monday I lost my contacts again and I could no longer do a full sync. I have 1200 contacts and I can not sync more than 400, the synchronization stops and all contacts disappear, then the resynchronization starts again.

  • Can't sync iphone after update

I recently installed the new iphone update v. 1.1.1 and phone worked fine. It synced, etc. But after installing iphoto 4 on my computer so I can download my pictures off iphone, I plug it in and iphoto access iphone first and does not let itunes sync with it. any ideas before removing iphoto. I would like to be able to download my pictures to my computer. Thanks

Yes, disable iPhoto from opening, then sync again.
The setting is in Image Capture, in the general preferences. Set it to "when a camera is connected, open NO applications", if you want to disable iPhoto opening whenever the iPhone (or some other camera device) is attached.
Then reset your iPhone. Reboot your mac.
    Sync again.

  • Trouble syncing iPod after initial connection

We just purchased a 5th gen iPod, and we're having some trouble getting it to sync with our Mac mini Core Duo. When we connect it via the included USB cable, it will appear on the desktop, trigger iTunes to start up, and perform a sync. However, the problem arises if we try to manually sync the iPod again after that first sync. When I go into iTunes and right click on the iPod and select "Update iPod", iTunes hangs for a minute with no indication that the iPod is syncing. If I try to right click on the iPod and select "Options", I am able to choose different options, but after clicking "OK", iTunes hangs for a minute and then reports "Preferences were not safed for the iPod "xxxxxx" because it could not be found." Basically, it seems like after that first sync, the iPod disconnects and will not reconnect.
    Additional notes:
    * I have tried the "Five R's", although the "Reinstall" part did not work - when I tried to run the iTunes installer, it told me there was "nothing to install". Presumably because I already have the latest version of everything.
    * I did put the iPod into diagnostic mode, and it passed all tests successfully.
    * Even when the iPod fails to sync, it does continue to charge... so it appears that the connection is at least working somewhat.
    * If I set the iPod into Disk Mode, it seems to work fine. However, to do this, I either have to use the key combination to force it into Disk Mode, or REALLY QUICKLY set up the options to do so while it is performing its initial sync after being connected. As I said before, after the initial sync happens, and the iPod disconnects, I can't save any of the options.
    * When I connect my 4th Gen iPod via the 5th Gen iPod's USB cable, it exhibits the exact same symptoms as the 5th Gen iPod. That leads me to believe the problem is not in the iPod itself, but possibly in the cable, the mini's USB port, or in the software. I have tried plugging in to all four USB ports on the mini with the same results. The 4th Gen iPod works fine when plugged in via FireWire. And of course the 5th Gen doesn't support FireWire, so I can't try that.
    Any suggestions?
Mac mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2gb RAM

You're not alone. I have the exact same problem as
you. I had a 3G iPod before and it worked perfectly.
I'm glad to hear that someone else is having this problem. I'm totally baffled as to what the issue could be. I'm going to list every place I think there could possibly be a problem, and any steps I've taken to rule it out:
    1. Hardware problem inside the 5th gen iPod.
    - I have run all of the self-diagnostics, and they passed with flying colors. The iPod plays back music, photos, and video just fine. Also, I have the same problem with the 4th gen iPod, when it is hooked up via USB2. The 4th gen works fine when hooked up via FireWire.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    2. Hardware problem with my USB cable.
    - I took my iPod to the Apple Store and hooked it up using their USB cable, and experienced the same problem. Also, the iPod charges normally in any case, and it syncs over my USB cable just fine if it's in disk mode.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    3. Hardware problem with a USB port on my Mac mini.
    - As noted in #2, I took my iPod to the Apple Store and hooked it up to one of their Mac minis, and it had the same problem. Also, I plugged the iPod into all of the ports on my Mac mini and got the same results with all of them. All of my other peripherals work fine on all of the USB ports (printer, card reader, camera, mouse, keyboard).
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    4. Hardware problem on my Mac mini other than the USB port.
    - As noted in #3, I had the same problem when I hooked my iPod up to the Mac mini in the Apple Store. Also, I have run the Apple Hardware Diagnostics CD on my Mac mini and it did not come up with any problems.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    5. Problem with the iTunes software on my Mac mini.
    - As noted earlier, I experienced the same problem when hooking up with the Apple Store's Mac mini. Also, my 4th gen iPod works just fine when connected via FireWire.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    6. Problem with the Mac OS X software on my Mac mini.
    - As noted earlier, I had the same problem on the Apple Store's mini.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    7. Problem with the Firmware on my iPod.
    - I had updated my iPod to firmware 1.1.1, but even after downgrading it to 1.1, I had the same problem. And I'm having the problem on my 4th Gen iPod when it is hooked up via USB, and it has a totally different firmware.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    8. Problem with the iTunes music library on my Mac mini.
    - I reset the iPod using the iPod Updater, wiping out all of its data. I then created a fresh user on Mac OS X, logged in to it, and connected the iPod. That user had no iTunes library at all, so other than the preferences, no data was being synced to the iPod, and I STILL had the same issue.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
Ok, so all of those are not the problem. So what could the problem be? Well, let's try a few theories:
Theory A. This is a problem that affects all Mac mini Core Duo users who are syncing iPods over USB2.
    - If this was true, wouldn't we be hearing a lot more complaints? I suppose if most of the users had their iPods set to disk mode, then they would never notice the problem.
Theory B. Um... I don't have any other theories.
I've thought about taking the iPod back and swapping it for a new unit, but based on all of the troubleshooting I've done, I don't see how that could make any difference, since I'm experiencing the same problem with my 4th gen iPod.
Anyone want to take a stab at it?

  • Can't sync iPhone after computer upgrade

I just upgraded my notebook hard drive and started everything on the computer - including my iTunes library - over from scratch. Unfortunately, even though this is the same computer I was using before (albeit with a new hard drive, and upgraded to Leopard), the iPhone doesn't seem to be recognizing it as such: I can't sync or play music through iTunes.
Is there any way, short of wiping the iPhone and all of that jazz, to get the phone working with my computer? This is definitely not the sort of user experience I've come to expect from Apple.

    Brendan,
If you replaced your hard drive, the iPhone is going to think it's connected to a different computer. So in order to sync, it will need to erase the content from your iPhone and re-sync it. If you set up all of your iTunes info (and the other info you normally sync to the iPhone), all you will need to do is sync the information back to your iPhone from the computer.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Trouble syncing iPhone 4 to iTunes 10.5

    OK.
So I am trying to upgrade my iPhone to ios 5, and in the process, want to back it up. I'm having NO luck at all. I updated iTunes to 10.5, and now my phone will not sync. It just gets stuck on step 1 of 2. Apple have surprisingly been no help at all, and want to charge me for getting help. YEAH RIGHT!
I am running a Mac, version 10.6.8 (not Lion), and while everything else seems to working fine, that is I can access the iTunes store etc... the Sync just does not happen. 4 hrs is the max time I've left it, and the 'sync worm' has not moved an inch. I know people who have not bothered with the back up and have lost all their numbers etc... I don't want to be one of those people. Can anyone help with this issue? For the first time since becoming a Mac user, I feel like a windows user, where a problem occuers for no apparent reason, and with no fix in sight. HELP!
    Thanks in advance!
    Chris.

i did, didn't help, the apply is still dim out..it will allow me to revert but not to apply

  • Can't sync IPhone after PC crash/restore

Hi, hopefully someone can help me.
My PC crashed.  I had to take it back to original settings, completely restoring the hard drive.  Once complete, I reinstalled ITunes 11 and restored my data from external backup.
Now I can't sync our IPhones to ITunes because I get an error that my IPhone is associated with another ITunes library.  I'm not sure how to go about solving this issues.
I had contemplated uninstalling ITunes and the library and starting fresh because some of the music stored on the external backup was duplicated when I reinstalled it as some was stored in the ITunes cloud.
Any ideas on how to sync the IPhones would be appreciated.

Do you mean simply trash the iTunes app?
If so, then how do I reinstall it, that is, where do I find the files to do so?  A spotlight search of my iMac didn't show any file with which to do so, and a search on Apple Support discuss Windows systems only.
    Thanks for your help!

I didn't do anything differently, but I do know someone tried to Facetime my phone number as I was driving..  Could that have knocked it out?  The car manual says I need to check the phone manual, but I can't find anything.  Thank you.
