Trouble syncing Mail folders/subfolders

Hi to anyone who reads this.
Not sure where to turn for help right now. Apple Tech Support says this is a .Mac problem; .Mac says it's an Apple Tech Support issue. I'm in the inferno.
Like a lot of people, I download a lot of e-mails from the server and put them into folders and subfolders (and sometimes sub-subfolders). Some folders are important; others are not. It is critical that I have access to these important folders over the holidays when I'm not at my iMac. I have a .Mac account, so I should be able to do that. But when I try to sync, the folders don't show up (or...worse...only a few of them show up). For those of you who want to read on, please do.
I initially tried this sync with my folders about two months ago. It didn't work -- it wasn't critical to me then, so I didn't pursue it. What happened then was that I dragged the main folder(s) with several subfolders (and lots of e-mails) from where they sat in my mail program to below the globe icon for my .Mac account. The colorful ball whirled for quite a while. Then I went to the .Mac site, opened my mail and found only a few of the folders and subfolders had transferred. I was frustrated, but I stopped worrying about it.
Fast forward to today. I have a very strong need to have access to those e-mails while I'm away. I have tried to sync many times in the last day. Most recently, I have manually sync'd everything, so I know the sync works for my iCal and address book (although strangely, the automatic one looked like it worked, but it didn't). Nevertheless, the calendar and address books are completely up-to-date. I double-checked that the memory wasn't a problem. It's not. I even increased the storage allotment for mail to 700.
Trying everything I could think of, I went to the .Mac site, opened my folders, deleted the old (incompletely transferred and NEVER effectively synchronized despite autosyncing) folders from a few months ago and started over. (By the way, not that it matters, but the main folders under the globe icon are white, not blue, and the subs are blue...not sure what that means.) I have tried in many ways to get the folders I created in my Mail program to transfer to .Mac by placing them under the globe icon and then pressing the sync button. Nothing seems to work.
Help. Do you know what is wrong? Do you know what department at Mac should be helping me? What else do you need to know to help answer this one? I really need those e-mails -- far, far too many to resend to myself to put on the server over the holidays. Hundreds!! All very important for a conference I am planning.
Thanks so much!!! By the way, I'm a 10.4.3 user. I wish I could tell you whether this happened before or after the upgrade this fall, but honestly, I just don't remember.

the easiest is to use Migration Adssistant (it's in Applications/Utilities). It lets you transfer all your user settings, not just Mail. If you are interested in Mail ONLY, copy the entire folder /users/username/library/mail and the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. when you start Mail after that it will look just as it did on the old computer.
and once that is accomplished is there a way I can keep both mail accounts in sync?
if you use an IMAP email account, this is automatic. if you use POP, it's impossible.
I would like to be able to file or delete an email on one computer and have the same action take place on the other computer.

Is your email account an IMAP account? If not, the folders will not sync.
If your email account is a POP account, you can create folders and mailboxes in the Mac mail app and those folders will be for local storage and organization on the Mac only. That is a feature of the Mac mail software. Those folders/mailboxes will not sync if you do not have an IMAP account.

  • PLEASE HELP ... My iMac desktop and Mac Air laptop are not syncing mail folders ???

I am running mac mail with icloud on both my desktop and laptop.  They are both running Mac OX Lion 10.8.2 and originally when I set them the email folders created unders icloud were syncing.  Lately, if I add an email folder in icloud on my desktop I do not see the same on my laptop and if I transfer an email from the inbox on my desktop into an icloud folder, I am not seeing the same occuring on my laptop.  Hence, my laptop has over 900 emails in the inbox and I don't want to have to manually transfer all of them into the appropriate folders.
Any idea what I am doing wrong or what happened?

    Jason,
    1. iCloud is checked and set up correctly on both computers with respect to their preference panels and both computers are logged in with the same iCloud account.
    2. I have forced the sync on both computers multiple times ... nothing changes.
    3. When viewed online at iCloud.com, the folders are not the same.  The recently added folders are not showing up on within iCloud.  The same problem as the laptop.  Only the desktop retains the correct folders once added.
Not sure what to do now ...

  • Syncing Mail folders from iMac (on my mac) to IMAP account

I use Mail, on my Mac mostly, for my mails. I obviously have inbox & folders. I have my folders under "On my Mac" this is where I move mails. I also have folders under "IMAP account". Which was set-up initially with help of technical support - but of course I can't remember exactly how....
So when I view my IMAP account - via Mobile Me - my Inbox is always fully synced - but my folders are not synced.
How do I sync my items that I move into folders on my mac with my IMAP account, that I can then read off-line?

I have the same issue, did you ever find a solution for this problem?

  • Trouble syncing contact folders

I've successfully synced all the contacts from my address book on my harddrive to my web .mac account (I have 2, btw, one personal and one for business-I've synced to my business account). However, I have about 100 addresses that I need to send a mass mailing to, and have them nicely in a folder on my harddrive. The folders from my harddrive don't show up on the web .mac account, just the individual addresses.
How do I get the folders to sync?
Saw a previous post where the guy just logged off, then back on and it seemed to fix it. I tried this, but nothing changed.
    Thanks for your help!

.Mac Sync is designed to synchronize a limited number of data types, and with contact data, this means only the contact records contained in the Address Book application. No backup copies, vCard files or any other contact are synchronized by .Mac Sync.
What you need to synchronize folders and folder contents across network segments is an application like ChronoSync, from Econ Technologies:

Can I manually pull all mail settings, accounts and sigs to copy over to a new mac pro?
    Ideas?

a smart mailbox is not a regular folder. it's a saved search. you do a search and save the search parameters so you can repeat the search quickly. that's what a smart mailbox is. no actual messages are moved anywhere when you make a smart mailbox.

  • Help syncing Mail folders between iMac & Macbook Air

My laptop and iMac sync properly in Mail except for the Sent folder.  I send from two accounts other than my iCloud accounts.  When I delete or move a message from my Sent folder, it does not delete or move on the other device.  Anyone have a solution?

Network Solutions offers both POP and IMAP access, but your company may not support it, ask them.
Here are the Network Solutions IMAP settings.
    INCOMING MAIL SERVER (Imap)
    username: your full email address
    password: your email password
    incoming server: mail.yourdomain.com
    port: 143 (IMAP)
SSL: SSL can be enabled for security (this will change the port to 993)
    OUTGOING MAIL SERVER (SMTP)
    outgoing server: mail.yourdomain.com
    authentication: yes, requires authentication
    username: your full email address
    password: your email password

  • Syncing mail folders

You may need to wait a little longer until iCloud is released. As you may already know it's scheduled for this fall, if you aren't familiar with it yet please visit www.apple.com/icloud

  • Mail - syncing mail

I had some trouble syncing mail and now want to copy messages directly from mail on one computer to another computer, manually.
How to do so?  Once I put the messages in a temp folder on destination computer, can I just drop the messages where they belong, in the correct inbox our outbox?
    Thanks,
    Inoshi

No, this did not work.  I was able copy from and to V2 mail mbox subfolders, then rebuild mailboxes and reindex to see these messages.  However it took a lot of poking around because I do not understand the file strcuture for the messages in V2 Mail.
Can somebody point me to a document explaining the directory logic in mail, then I can complete the job.
    Thanks,
    Inoshi

  • HT4236 Trouble syncing photos as "selected folders"

Can anyone please help? I'm having trouble uploading photos from my computer to my I-phone device.
The problem I'm having is I'm trying to sync photos to my i phone device and "select specific folders" and although this is never been a problem in the past prior to downloading I-tunes 11, it's not allowing me to sync selected photos (only allowing me to select all folders) as the appropraite selection to "sync selected folders" is blocked out and will not allow me to manually switch to it.
I've tried changing settings etc and seeing if there's anything that can allow me to do this, but have had no luck.
    Can Anyone help please?????

That's not really an answer, that's just a work around. Does anyone have an answer for this?
Put all the folders (or a shortcut to those folders) with photos into one folder and select that top level folder.
Then you can tick Selected folders and pick the subfolders.
The photos do not all need to be in one single folder.
Each folder will be a separate album in the Photos app.

  • I have mail Ver. 7 and I am having trouble syncing my work gmail account

    Hi,
From the time I have upgraded to Mavericks, I am having trouble syncing my gmail emails. After the mail update my personal mail accounts from gmail are working fine but I am still having trouble with my office gmail account. I am receving new emails in my web browser inbox but not in the mail application. Also, I could only see the new messages if I quit the mail application and relauch it. Please suggest any remedy?

So you don't want any help from your fellow users, then. OK, that's fine. But #1 is not a "recourse", it's just a complaint.
As to #2, if you don't want to call Apple Support again, you can use Apple's Support Feedback page:

  • Mail folders rearranged by Yosemite - restore subfolders?

After Yosemite installation, Apple Mail folders were re-arranged, distributed under email addresses, related subfolders "dumped" into unrelated areas, some lost.
How do I get them back the way I had them?

    Do you have a backup?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then Mail/V2/Mailboxes

  • Was wondering if it is possible to sync the folders in mac mail on my imac to my mac book pro rather than recreating them

was wondering if it is possible to sync the folders in mac mail on my imac to my mac book pro rather than recreating them

There are two standard protocols for receiving email, POP and IMAP. In the POP (Post Office Protocol) when messages are "read" by your email client (Mail) they are downloaded and stored on the reading computer and deleted from the POP server. When you are using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) the messages remain on the IMAP server until they are deleted. IMAP was created for exactly the situation you are trying to achieve. For example Apple's iCloud (formerly me.com, formerly mac.com) uses IMAP protocol. So whether I access my email on my Mac, my iPhone, my iPad, or via webmail I have access to all the files in all the various mailboxes automatically because they are all seeing and using the same online mailboxes. If I delete a message on any of the varioius devices it is deleted on all of the various devices.
Whether you can use IMAP protocol or not depends on your email host and whether they have an IMAP server or not. Many ISPs do not offer IMAP because they do not want to bear the expense of the additional disk space required to store the IMAP messages. As I mentioned before Apple's free email service is by default IMAP. Google Mail offers a somewhat non-standard IMAP service. It works with Apple's email client, Mail, but it is just a bit "different".
Personally I resisted using IMAP for years. Largely because I had always used POP and was comfortable with it. Once I got an iPhone and needed to synch my email between my computer and iPhone I realized IMAP was "the only way to go."

  • Syncing Apple mail folders between macs??

I would like to be able to sync the folders in the ON MY MAC section of Apple Mail on my MacBook with the Apple Mail on my iMac.
Is there a way to get iCloud to sync the changes made to these folders so they reflect new and deleted messages?

You must place the "On My Mac" mailboxes on the server for the mailboxes and messages within to be available via iCloud webmail access and with the Mail.app on each Mac.
Select and drag an "On My Mac" mailbox under the iCloud section in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer to copy the mailbox and messages within to the server.
