Trouble Syncing P2 24p footage with 29.97 audio

Hi All,
I'm having problems syncing Panasonic P2 format footage shot at 24p from an HPX-500, and externally recorded sound.  I'm using PPro CS5.5 on Win7.  I believe this is because the P2 format is actually 29.97fps with some pull-down (Remove Pull-Down setting checked for the clips) and the audio was recorded with a timecode of 23.976.
So when I use the Synchronize feature it gets the clips close, but the audio lags just so slightly, less than a frame.  I can switch to audio time units and manually sync, but I have a completed short film with a ton of clips that I have to do this for and I think it would take the next ten years to manually sync ;-)
If there are any solutions to this, I would be greatful for any suggestions on how to handle this.  The specs of the video and audio clips are below.

Already given.  While camera makes have no problem creating hardware that records audio at a consistent rate, audio device makers either can't or won't do the same.
Hey Jim, sorry - I should have clarified that statement a bit more.  The slight differences can be understood by your comment for sure, unfortunately .  But the timecode should not be mismatched at all - there seems to be a bad calculation in PPro somewhere.  Other applications can read and match the timecodes without any problems (see below).
I found some further info - I had my friend import the footage and audio at his studio with FCP and Avid and they both matched perfectly (he's also going to try Smoke).  I also downloaded the trial of Avid Media Composer 6 and the clips matched up perfectly also.
As a test, on my system, I batch "converted" all my audio files using Audition - just saving them with all the same parameters as the originals.  Then I imported back into Premiere and guess what?  They matched much, much more closely.  Still faster by 9951 samples after 00:01:47:00 - so I don't know how noticable 1/48th of a second will be, and I suppose I can find some nice edit points to adjust at.  But also back to your suggestion on adjusting the speed of the audio, I may be able minimize that too.

    Are you signed into the correct iD on the iPad in Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID?
    Do you have Sync only  checked songs and videos selected in the Summary Tab of iTunes? If you do, are you selecting the music to sync? If you don't have that checked, have you selected the music to sync? Are you trying to sync the entire library?

    I have a 90 minutes project which made from 4 sequence. Sequence settings are the followings : AVCHD 1080p 25fps square pixels , 5.1 channel master audio.
    I made the sequences from avchd file-s, which recorded with Sony HDR-CX700V with AVCHD 1080p 25fps and Dolby digital 5.1 sound.
    Right now I finished the project with lots of effects and imported After effects compositions, and I cannot find any setting to create 5.1 sound.
    I have Mainconcept codec suite, but this offer m2ts 1440*1080i settings only.( And I cannot configure the mainconcept codec settings.)
    Do you have any idea how can I export the project without any degradation, and with 5.1 audio? The original footages recorded with this properties : H264/AVC - top field first - 22.000 Mbit/sec.
    And I use in the project some 720p H264/AVC - progressive - 8.001 Mbit/sec videos.

    You have to consider a couple of things. Mixing 1080 and 720 material is best done in a 720 sequence, because uprezzing will seriously deteriorate quality, unless you accept black borders. That also means exporting a 720 format as maximum, unless again you accept serious quality loss. Whatever the resolution you choose, exporting AVCHD material to anything else than uncompressed, Lagarith or UT will entail a generation loss and thus quality loss. The best export settings are dependent on your delivery medium. DVD, BD or web.
    Since you are working in a 1080 sequence, the quality loss of uprezzed 720 material is not a big issue, apparently, so what is the relevancy of 'the same quality' on export when you have already compromised quality?

  • Sync footage with alpha to audio

    Here is a situation.
    You have a gun muzzle flash clip (or any other pre-keyed footage) and you want to sync it with an audio file such as a gunshot sound.
    Since this clip would, by nessessity, be above the primary storyline, Is there any way to link this clip to the SFX so you can move one and not lose sync without losing the alpha channel when creating a compound clip.
    P.s. When all this emthesis on linking and making connections, wouldn't it be smart to allow clips to link to each other rather then always linking to the primary storyline. What if i want to move a whole bounch of titles and audio over another clip? What if you want a clip on the secondary story to link to a song cue?

    Yes, recorded on the tape the vision is about 2 sec behind the audio and also EE through the VT machine if just playing the timeline [which is in sync on the computer].
    I am not supplying a reference to the deck. As I mentioned I have used exactly this set up with the same machine and FCP set up without these problems working in PAL about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I also made a DVD of one of the edits and that is in sync. I am thinking it's either something in the Kona 3 - but the problem should be apparent when monitoring it - or in the VT machine. The reference was something I had thought about but I don't know enough about that side of things....

  • Trouble Syncing Roland TR-606 with Logic Pro

    Hello.
    I had this working before and I dont know what went wrong.
    The setup is like this Logic sending MIDI Clock > Midisport Interface > Kenton Pro Solo (set to send Sync24 out of the 'Through' port > Roland 606's MIDI sync input.
    When I start and stop from Logic the 606 starts and stops accordingly. Also, when I change the tempo from within Logic the tempo on the 606 also changes HOWEVER the speed that the 606 is running at is always faster than the metronome in logic - It doesn't sync. Is this a problem with the 606?
    What am I doing wrong. Would be very grateful for any advice.

    More info: From the Logic 'MIDI Sync preferences' I have set it to send MIDI Clock and from the 'MIDI Sync project settings' I am sending it to the correct port on my interface. The MIDI clock is received by the Roland however fails to sync with it properly..

  • Having lots of trouble creating a multicam clip with independently recorded audio in sync

    I can't figure out why this isn't working and have tried it many different ways and many times. Here's the situation:
    Video was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 7D (I suspect this may be part of the problem because the 5D has timecode capabilities and the 7D doesn't)
    Primary audio was recorded on a Zoom H4N but each camera recorded audio also and the levels are all fine
    I've tried the following to create the mutlicam clip of the interview with all audio and video in sync:
    Naming the Camera Angle for each clip (Profile and Straight On)
    Selecting all of the relevant video clips
    Seleting all of the relevant audio and video clips
    Synchronizing the video clips with the high quality audio clips (half of which I had to do by hand) and then selecting the sychronized clips to create the multicam clip
    None of this works. In the end a multicam clip is created that is completely out of sync. I'm at a loss and would love any help!

    I saw in a video tutorial (after trying to find solutions to this problem) that one should assign the independent audio to the same camera angle as one of the cameras. After assigning it to its own angle, it did much better but it loses sync about half way through now. Screenshot attached.

  • Im having trouble syncing my outlook calender with my iphone

    Itunes does not recognize an Outlook calender so I cannot sync.  'All Calenders' is checked prior to syncing.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

    go to settings-> general-> Reset-> Erase all contents and settings. When ur phone finishes that, set it up as a new phone(instead of restoring from old back ups) and then sync with itunes. This should work.
    If that doesnt work too.. then delete the softwareupdate.ipsw file from itunes media folder and do a restore. This will download a new iOS file from apple which will be completely error free. (Do this only if the above step didnt solve the issue.)

    The iMac is running 10.6.8.

    I've called the company which makes it.  They have no answer.
    I've followed all the troubleshooting advice, including eliminating interference.  It doesn't make a difference. 
    What is weird is the following.  1. It used to work with this MacBook.  2. It currently works with my iMac running 10.6.8.
    Any thoughts of what to do next?

    When the sync aborts, what message do you get?
    How are you connecting - via USB cable or bluetooth?
    Can you post the version of PCSuite you have installed?  For PC Suite issues, there's a different forum - you may want to search/post there.

    You should be able to sync your device to your MAC with the DM, just be sure to temporarily disconnect from iCloud. What OS are you on?

  • 24p footage out of sync

    I just imported 24p footage, encoded in SS.
    Encore took it, but the video plays much faster than the audio, and so much that the people are sped up. It looks funny!
    I'm running, CS3 and SS5. The 24p footage with encoded at 12 iFrames and Closed GOPS. The imported audio is a wave file from the 24p project. Even after Encore transcodes the audio the problem remains.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    One thing you should check though...
    How are you monitoring this? Is your audio following your video to/from the same source?
    Turn on your wave form monitors for the timeline... does the click line up visually on the timeline to the clap of the slate?
    If you monitor your audio off the CPU and your video externally... or your audio out FW and your video only on the cpu... you can get sync issues. Actually LATENCY issues and not really out of sync.
    Are you sure it's out of sync and just not a latency issue?

    Is it 24p footage with 3:2 pulldown or, just 24p media?
    Either way, you're in for a fun time.....
    for 24p with 3:2 pulldown, first use Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown. Now, use Cinema Tools to conform it to 2.9.97fps. Now take it into your timeline and adjust the speed.
    For 24p media, just conform it in Cinema Tools to 29.97fps, and then pu in your timeline and adjust the speed.
    What you're doing is avoiding having FCP convert the 24p to 29.97fps by adding frames, before it gets to the speed change. Similarly, 24p with 3:2 pulldown must have it's pulldown removed before you can do a speed change.
    This should make things nicer for you!
