Trouble syncingiPod Nano (2nd gen) with Windows
I recently lost the ability to sync my iPod. It might have started after iTunes was updated to 8.1, but I'm not sure.
I've tried everything. Resetting, uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes, new cord, etc. When I try to RESTORE the iPod, it just hangs for a couple of hours with no apparent progress.
It doesn't show up in Windows as a device. The USB port works with other devices.
Help
i have the same problems, exept mine doesnt even show up on the computer and open itunes and sync, it just does nothing or says "USB not recognised"
i've updated the drivers and still no solution, lso done all of the above
the weird thing is the USB's are also ment to be USB 2.0 but have never realised they are (when it did work it would say that it can perform faster by connecting to a 2.0 port no matter what port it was plugged into)
Please help

Charging iPod nano (2nd gen) with iPod mini adaptor
Hey
I just bought my iPod nano 2nd gen, and I realized that there is no wall charger for it. Therefore I am wondering, if I can use the wallcharger for my old iPod mini?
I that cannot be done, I would like some alternatives, since I would like to bring my iPod on vacation, and therefore I need more than 24 hours of battery life.
Best regards

Yes. -
ITunes doesn't recognize IPOD Nano (2nd Gen), but Windows XP does
I'm a longtime happy owner of an IPOD Mini and bought a second Gen IPOD Nano a few months ago that works great. I have two identical P4 Sony Vaios that I back up/clone from one to the other every so often to keep them as identical as possible. It's been some months though since I've backed up/cloned my primary laptop to the secondary, and the 2nd Gen Nano isn't being recognized by ITunes on my primary laptop, only my secondary laptop. However Windows recognizes the Nano just fine on the primary laptop on all 3 USB 2.0 ports (I haven't tried my Mini recently), and I can browse the file system of the Nano, but ITunes just doesn't see it.
As I mentioned, my secondary laptop works just fine with the Nano, both Windows XP AND ITunes recognizes it and can update it, but I don't want to have to use that computer JUST for updating my IPOD, and pretty soon I need to back up my primary laptop to my secondary. I've actually only been holding off on that because I can't get my Nano to be recgonized by ITunes with my primary laptop and don't want to screw them both up. Cloning my secondary laptop to become my primary isn't an option, the file system is many months outdated, I need to get the Nano working with ITunes on my primary laptop.
This is definitely a software/driver/service issue, I can take the hard drive out of my secondary laptop, put it in my primary, and ITunes will recognize the Nano just fine. I can take the hard drive out of my primary laptop, put it in my secondary, and ITunes can't see the Ipod. I've upgraded ITunes twice on the primary laptop in the last few months with no improvement, so that hasn't helped.
I really don't know what else to do at this point, I was under the impression that any drivers needed are installed by ITunes, and as long as Windows recognizes the device (which it does) everything should be fine and ITunes should recognize it. I've checked my services and there is only one IPOD related service that I've found (it's actually called "Ipod Service") and I've confirmed that service is running and starts automatically. I presume that service is needed and isn't a legacy from my IPOD Mini and an old version of ITunes.
If, after digesting the above information, anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. This has gotten to be somewhat annoying.
Thanks
P4 Windows XP ProNevermind. I uninstalled ITunes completely as well as the IPOD updater program (I think that's what it was basically called) that was installed on my system. I then rebooted, tested the Nano to make sure Windows recognized it, then tested it (successfully) with Winamp and the Winamp IPOD plugin. It was already working properly with Winamp and the IPOD plugin even when ITunes wasn't recognizing it so there was no change there. Once everything checked out I reinstalled the current version of ITunes and it FINALLY recognized the IPOD. It said there was a new software version available for the Nano so I went ahead and allowed it to download and install the update to 1.1. The update went smoothly and once the Nano restarted ITunes again recognized it. No clue what the problem was that created this error condition initially, but perhaps someone else will benefit from this information. I would have thought that reinstalling ITunes at least 3 times, including 2 version upgrades, would have resolved the problem, but it took removing ITunes and the IPOD software completely to resolve it.

I upgraded iTunes to 7.4.3.1 on my Windows computer and it is giving me this message when I connect my 2nd gen shuffle. It didn't give me this message before I upgraded.
"The iPod "Share" cannot be used with iTunes because it is not formatted properly.
To format this iPod so that it can be used with iTunes, go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore."
I hit restore. iTunes appears to restore the shuffle but then gives me the same message.
I can reformat the same shuffle at home on my iMac without any problems. Like I said, this only started after upgrading to the lastest version of iTunesI have a very similar problem. I switched to a new (Windows XP) computer, connected my 2G Shuffle and get the message "The iPod 'Enormous Cave' cannot be used with iTunes because it is not formatted properly.
Restoring from within iTunes 7.4.2.4 doesn't work. I downloaded the reset utility, but it can't locate the iPod.
I can still listen to the iPod, but the podcasts are getting stale. -
Having trouble recognizing nano 2nd ed in windows 7
I have a Nano 2nd generation ipod and when i connect to my computer using windows 7 it gives the error USB device not recognized. Not sure what to do
Not sure what to tell you. If running the CS Cleaner Tool didn't work for you, then I'm afraid something outside of Adobe is interfering. Futzing with the registry won't do anything. And seriously, if something even ends up on your desktop, you have a much more severe issue then just the Adobe installer. Basicalyl it means your whole system's configuration is screwed and the Windows installer can't make heads and tails of possibly broken permissions and user privileges or some weird custom path configuration. There's only one advice to keep your sanity: Reformat the machine, install your operating system from scratch.

IPod Nano 2nd Gen. resets (Windows + Winamp)
Hello,
I have got a iPod Nano and I have the problem that it reboots when it tries to play certain files. I'm using Windows and Winamp. This has been annoying over a long time. Now I found out that the reboots happen if the file name ends with .MP3 (instead of .mp3).
How can this happen? I wonder why I couldn't find any topics about this using Yahoo.
If someone knows how to fix this without renaming all those files after reloading the iPod please tell me.
Thank you in advance!

Replacing my stolen Nano 2nd Gen with a used Nano 3rd Gen
Someone stole my Nano. My kind brother in law has offered me his 3rd gen nano to replace it.
How, precisely, do I synch this used Nano with my iTunes so I don't hopelessly screw up my music and successfully get it onto the new/used Nano?Hello Rick
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
First, you will have to restore it via iTunes. This will wipe all the content currently on it and set it back to its original default settings.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
From there you will go through the basic set up process and configure your iPod to sync however you wish. Then you should be on your way and good to go.

...that don't have the little blue dot indicating that they've not been listened to? These podcasts aren't sync'ed to iPod bec iPod thinks that they have been listed to and they haven't. How to 'restore' these podcasts to their original 'unheard' status? The solution appears to manually manage podcasts, but I couldn't follow directions which I think were intended for iTunes 9 --such as find the Source and go from there (no "Source" on my iTunes).
You can also change your settings from iTunes under the 'podcasts' tab of your ipod. If you set it to sync all episodes instead of all unplayed episodes it should work just fine.
If you wanted to pick which podcasts sync but don't want to manually manage, you could also create a smart playlist that chooses all 'checked' podcasts and sync that playlist instead. Then only the podcasts you check will be synced, regardless of whether or not they've been played. -
I bough a 4g Ipod nano 2nd gen for my cousins birthday. When i plug it into my computer it charges but does not show up in windows or itunes. I tried reseting it, reinstalling itunes, everything the site said but it didn't help. I am trying to sync songs to it for my cousin, but it won't work with it not connecting. Could the wire have something to do with it or is there a bigger problem here?

New ipod nano 2nd gen. not loading onto windows or itunes
I just got an ipod nano 2gb 2nd gen. (refurbished from apple). I updated my former version of itunes (my daughter has a 1st gen. nano, so she's been using itunes with her's with no problems..) to the latest version like the quick start guide says. Plugged in the ipod to the usb port on the back of the computer and the setup wizard pops up, asking to install the software for the device. I try letting it auto search, which it finds nothing, and I get a message saying "your new hardware may not work properly.....". I checked the device manager and the ipod is listed under "other devices" with a question mark by it. I checked to make sure my daughters 1st gen. nano works with the updated itunes and it does with no problems. Now what?
Ipod Nano 2gb 2nd gen. Windows XP
Dell Dimension 4600 Windows XPI also have a 2nd generation, which I purchased after my ipod Shuffle stopped updating. We plugged it in, followed the instructions but the Nano was not recognised by my PC, however, my nano does get recognised on my husband's pc. My daughters ipod and my old shuffle both are still recognised on my pc. I need to delete the shuffle, as it is faulty, but more importantly, I need to get my pc to recognise the nano. Please help.

Using a Windows formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with Bootcamp on a Mac(Win XP
Hey I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use a previously formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with a Mac that has XP Bootcamped on to it. If the Nano is placed in manually manage music with the original computer it was formatted with, will it be able to accept music, movies, podcasts, etc from the windows on the Mac or will they still be incompatible?
Well, I have 4 internal drive bays filled already, is there room somewhere for 5th one in the box? I wasn't aware of it if there is?? My mac is MacPro3,1, early 2008.
That macsales.com link is interesting but I'm not in the US (I'm in Croatia), and all those brands are supidly expensive here, that $80 esata docking station is almost $200 here... bahh. For that price I may as well buy a whole new 3TB external disk, I want to dock the old one to save money.
I've browsed around and I've found Icy Box docks, which have much more reasonable prices:
BOX IB-110StUS2-B
ICY BOX IB-111StUS2-Wh
ICY BOX IB-115StUS2HC
They all claim to have OSX support... anyone have any experience with them? -

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
