Trouble uninstalling old version of quicktime

I'm trying to unistall the old version of quicktime. When I go into my control panel and click on "remove program", the box opens like it's going to start, then it disappears. And nothing. I can't install any itunes software until I can get rid of this.
Any words of wisdom out there?
Thanks!

hmmmmm.
okay, let's first try taking Norton at its word. head to LiveUpdate, download fresh definitions, and try running a vigorous virus scan to see if it picks up anything on the PC.
it that doesn't show up anything, try running the Symantec online virus check. (i've seen this pick up infections on a PC in some cases where the Norton on the PC had been compromised.)
Symantec Security Check
... apologies in advance ... the online Symantec scan takes an eternity to run. (i've used it once or twice with belladonna.)

  • "Unable to uninstall old version of Quicktime" - HELP PLEASE!

I am trying hard to install iTunes 7 on my PC and when running the installer it tries to uninstall the old version of quicktime and it cannot. I uninstalled it manually through the control panel, but it said some parts could not be removed. iTunes 7 still will not install. Is my PC messed up or, though iTunes 7 is released, is it just not at the stage where we want to be installing it? Should I wait for an updated version?
As well, the iTunes installer installed Apple Updater. I ran it, and it said my programs were up to date, which is not true seeing as iTunes 7 is not installed.
    Please help!

Just goto the control panel and remove/uninstall all listings for iTUnes AND quicktime.
Go here at microsoft and install the windows cleanup utility http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
Once installed goto start>all programs>Windows cleanup
Remove each listing of iTUnes one at a time, For example if theres 2 or more listings of iTUnes, highlight ONE and click remove, then highlight the seconnd one and remove it ect ect
Do the same for all listings of quicktime
Now scan the system for malware with Ewido http://www.ewido.com
After that disable your antivirus and security programs then head to apple.com to download and install itunes

  • Cannot Uninstall old version of Quicktime

I use my grandparents' computer for my iTunes and it was fine, but we had a couple problems so my grandpa wiped everything he didn't use...including iTunes!
I tried reinstalling the new version, but then it said it would't work because Quicktime wasn't installed.
So, I tried installing Quicktime 7. The Download was fine, but then during the Installation (after agreeing to the Terms and Services, they tell you to click install) there's a window that comes up that says:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailible. Click 'OK' to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'QuickTime.msi' in the box below...
I asked my uncle and he said I have to look manually for the Quicktime folder because it might've gotten moved around when we got the computer looked at, but I've looked absolutely everywhere and there's no sign that QuickTime is even on the computer!
And now, after clicking out of the pop-up, the new window says: "The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed...please contact your technical support group."
I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I have about $300 saved up on my iTunes, and I really want to start to add more to my library. Is there any way I can get QuickTime up so I can start using iTunes?

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailible. Click 'OK' to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'QuickTime.msi' in the box below...
That message is usually caused by a damaged QuickTime.msi rather than a missing one.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs in CleanUp select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing QuickTime again. Does the install go through properly this time?

  • HT1926 When Installing new version error is quicktime cannot uninstall old version

When trying to install new version of Quicktime, I get a error message that quicktime cannot uninstall old version. This also affects Itunes to work. Get Message Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. I think not having quicktime working affects my Itunes from launching.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Not able to remove old version of QuickTime

I use Windows 7 Professional (64bit) and have been using iTunes with no problems. Got a message today to upgrade to the newest version of iTunes. Downloaded the file (the x64 version). Installer uninstalled old version and started to install new version and hung up when it tried to remove QuickTime. Now neither iTunes nor QuickTime are on my computer.
I followed the instructions on the forum to do a clean uninstall of all Apple products including the verification process. iTunes still will not install... gets to the point of installing QuickTime and says it cannot remove the old version and I need to contact my support personnel.

  • How can I uninstall old versions of Adobe Illustrator?

How can I uninstall old versions of Adobe Illustrator?

This is for uninstalling CS2, but you might find it helpful. EDITED: but watch out, since I don't know if trashing any of these will remove currently needed Illustrator files, if you have a later version.
To uninstall Adobe Creative Suite in Mac OS 1 -- Double-click Activity Monitor.app in Applications/Utilities, select AHCRemind, and click Quit Process.
2 -- If you intend to install the product on a different computer, transfer the activation. (See “To transfer the product activation” on page 1.)
3 -- If you want to uninstall Adobe Acrobat, double-click the uninstaller in Applications/Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, and follow the on-screen instructions.
4 -- If you want to uninstall Version Cue 2, double-click the uninstaller in Applications/Adobe VersionCue CS2, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: If the Version Cue uninstaller fails, see the alternative procecure, “To remove Version Cue manually” on page 4.
5 -- From the Applications folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: Note: After you drag the items to the trash in steps 5-8, you must empty the trash before you can reinstall
Adobe Creative Suite 2 on the same computer. • Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional • Adobe VersionCue CS2 • Adobe Bridge
    • Adobe GoLive CS2 • Adobe Illustrator CS2 • Adobe InDesign CS2 • Adobe Photoshop CS2 • AdobeHelpCenter.app
6 -- From the Utilities folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: • Adobe Utilities • Adobe Updater.app
7 -- From the Library folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: • Application Support/Adobe/AdobeHelpData • Application Support/Adobe/Assistance • Application Support/Adobe/StartupScripts/Workflow Automation Scripts
    • Preferences/Adobe/Workflow • Preferences/com.adobe.ActivationUtility.plist • Preferences/com.adobe.GoLive.plist • Preferences/Adobe Save For Web GL 8.0 Prefs
8 -- From the Users/[user name] folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: • Library/Preferences Panes/Opera Preferences
    • Library/Caches/Opera Cache
    • Documents/AdobeStockPhotos
To remove Version Cue manually (Mac OS only, not recommended)
If you’ve accidentally removed parts of the Version Cue installation manually or if the uninstaller fails, you have to remove the remaining installed Version Cue components manually.
1 -- From the Library/PreferencePanes folder, drag the Version Cue CS2.prefPane folder to the trash. 2 -- From the Library/Preferences folder, drag the com.adobe.versioncueCS2.plist file to the trash. 3 -- From the Library/StartupItems folder, drag the AdobeVersionCueCS2 folder to the trash. 4 -- From the Applications folder, drag the Adobe Version Cue CS2 folder to the trash.
5 -- From [user home]/Library/Preferences/Adobe, drag the Workflow folder to the trash. 6 -- (Optional) From the [user home]/Documents folder, drag the Version Cue folder to the trash.

  • Cannot uninstall old version of Qt

    Hi all,
Sorry if this is not a right place to ask this question. I just recently switch to Mac and am a newbie indeed. Here is my problem:
I build and install several Qt developer suites from source using the traditional Unix method (configure, make, make install, etc.) with option framework disabled (I want to use the libraries in the form of .dylib only). Now when I installed new version of Qt (4.6.2) and linked my program to this new set of libraries, everything went fine; but at runtime, the system keeps complaining that there are 2 different versions of libraries and that it does not know what to use. Something like this:
    <Quote>
objc[2450]: Class QMacSoundDelegate is implemented in both /usr/local/Qt-4.6.2/lib/libQtGui.4.dylib and /usr/local/Qt-4.5.3/lib/libQtGui.4.dylib. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
    </Quote>
Even-though if I delete the old library folder, this error still appear. Where in the system does Mac kernel keep track of what software version being installed? I looked everywhere but couldn't find it (/System/Library/Application Support, /System/Library/CoreServices, etc.)
    Please help.

You cannot install QuickTime 4, or indeed any downloadable version of QuickTime, in Mac OS X 10.6 and have it work. Forcing it into Mac OS X 10.6 is very likely to have caused damage to the operating system by overwriting critical files. The only effective way you're probably going to find to remove it is to reinstall Mac OS X 10.6.
If you want to have access to old versions of QuickTime, you need to be running a compatible version of Mac OS X, on a development system, one with a PowerPC processor since no version of Mac OS X old enough to run QuickTime 4.x will run on an Intel-based Mac. If you need to run multiple QT versions, create separate volumes, each with its own copy of Mac OS X and different version of QuickTime.

  • '07 macbook pro with Lion.  I cannot install Adobe Flash Player.  Tried uninstalling old version - didn't help.  I'm a novice and stuck.  Help.

Cannot figure out why I can't install Flash Player update.  Even tried uninstalling old version - as Adobe site seemed to suggest, but now have no Flash Player.
I'm not really computer savy but am frustrated since everywhere I go on web uses Flash Player.  Any ideas, suggestion?  Please help.

Feel sooo dumb.  Found my error with confidence of your instruction and link.  At 'quit' or 'install' box didn't realize need to check box so obviously didn't install.  This time accidentally hovered over darkened 'install' button so instructions lit up - voila!  Thanks for your help.  I'm back in business.

  • How do I delete my old version of Quicktime?

Today I tried to update my version of iTunes, but when I went to do it it said I couldn't because it couldn't delete my old version of Quicktime, preventing it from installing the new Quicktime, and therefore I couldn't install the new version of iTunes. I tried Add or Remove programs, but that didn't work either. Any advice?

Try this I was having the same problem.

  • Cannot remove old version of Quicktime

I have a Quicktime version that came when I bought my laptop. The OS system also came with the laptop. I have a Windows XP Home Edition. When I tried to install the Itunes latest version with quicktime it kept reporting that it is unable to remove the old version of quicktime and cannot continue with the installation. I have tried to follow the instructions with regards to removing the Quicktime including the 2 files inside the System 32 folder. I have restarted my pc and tried to install again but it still shows the same problem. Also the Quicktime logo is still showing up in my Add/Remove Program without a file size. So now I don't even have the quicktime anymore. Don't even know what else I can do to completely remove the old file.

ok what finally worked is that I installed the windows install cleanup. what I have been working at for hours took just around 15 min. but as I understand it you have to be very careful with it or you might accidentally remove files that you need. Thank you for your help.

  • Cannot load Itunes or Quicktime and can't uninstall old version

I'm trying to load iTunes. The installation fails because, "The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime."
Have tried unintallation the current version of QuickTime and installing the latest version of QuickTime 7. Nothing works.
    What should I try next?

This topic has been discussed repeatedly, if you go up to the top right corner of this page to "more options" and do a search of the forum you will likely find your answer, it does take a little effort on your part though.

  • Installed skype 7.6 but can't uninstall old version.

Hello, I recently upgraded to 7.6 as advised and it works fine. However, the old version is still installed and continues to ring and ring when I connect on the new version.I cannot find the old version on my programmes list to uninstall it.  What has happened here?

downloaded quicktime standalone version, no luck there, says it can't uninstall the old version, error 1714, then it says fatal error -1603 during installation.
let's first try this technique to see if we can get past the 1714.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?

  • Uninstalling old versions

Hello...I've just upgraded to Creative Cloud and downloaded & installed Photoshop CC. I have two previous versions of Photoshop on my computer, CS5 & CS6, and the Bridge program for each. What's the best way to uninstall them? Also, do I need to uninstall Camera Raw or just upgrade the old version?
    Thanks

Generally it's not the best idea to uninstall older versions post facto, since it will drag down shared files and mess with file associations. You will almost definitely have to reinstall CC again after running the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. Major versions of ACR behave the same like the programs - they install separately, but uninstalling older versions after the fact may reset develop settings or delete certain camera presets, necessitating a full reinstall. Unless you are short on disk space, leavcing the older versions in place would avoid all this extra trouble...
