Trouble updating apps.

message says "could not be downloaded at this time."  I am never able to update them, have to delete and install.  At times I cannot access certain websites, the message I get is "server not available."  I don't believe this is my wireless because all of our computers work fine.  My wife has been having the same problems with her iphone 4.
Any ideas?

The Apple servers could be busy, however, you are prbably losing the internet connection.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

It seems I can't update any on 3G now, so I do it on my comp in iTunes and just sync it.

  • I am having trouble updating apps through iTunes, iTunes shuts down when I try to sync.

I am having trouble updating apps that I have on my iPhone through iTunes.  I go through the update then when syncing I get an error message iTunes has to shut down.  The only way I have been able to work around is to delete the app and download it again.  If I don't do this the app says waiting on my iPhone.

I just got the same message myself. Which I have only had 2 times in three years, so I checked here.

There is an issue with the iTunes Store on Apple's end, so I assume that is why we cannot connect.

  • Trouble updating apps and wrong Apple ID's

    Hello,
Our kids got three iPods at Christmas, and I had one already.  I set up my kids with 3 unique Apple IDs so they could have their own accounts for purchases, itunes cards, etc.  I have a Macbook Pro with one user account and one iTunes library, and we use it to sync their apps & music with that one library.  The thinking was that the kids could share apps and music they downloaded for free or via purchases since Apple lets us have up to 5 devices in one iTunes library.
Recently, updating apps on the iPods has become a pain.  Some apps on one iPod want to update using their siblings Apple Id or my ID, and the update screen doesn't let us put in another ID.  On the iPods I have verified in Settings… Store that the correct Apple ID is being used, and I have tried signing out and in.  No matter what I do,  some app updates want to use a different Apple ID than what should be used for that iPod.
Is this issue with updating due to how I have things set up?  Is the cause due to one kid downloading an app via their iPod and synching it back to the Macbook, and their brother downloading the app onto their own iPod?  If yes, what can I do to fix up this problem?  Or is something else causing the problem?
    Sooo confused… help!  Thanks.

There is no other way to get the apps back without purchasing them again. IF - you still have the old ID and password, you can use that to update or download them again. If not, you will simply have to purchase them again.
"Opening" the old email address makes no sense. The old email address was just your username and Apple ID. Even if it is no longer working, you may still be able to use it - as long as you can remember your old password - if you know what I mean.

  • TS3219 Trouble updating apps on iphone 4

Whenever i attempt to add or update an app on my iphone 4 i get the msg: "Cannot connect to itunes store".  How do i resolve this issue?  Internet access is not the issue.  I have no trouble using all other apps that require internet access.

I called Applecare, and after 15 min of repeating the myself. They suggested that it's a problem with my wifi. I'm using an Airport Extreme, we have 3 Macs and 2 iPhones in the house, none of them have problems connecting to the network. All of them get really fast download speeds, none of them ever drop connections. So I was told that I should just do a restore on my iPhone 4, but they weren't sure if this would correct the problem. I was told that it's just likely a bug in iOS 4.1, and they couldn't think of anything else to try, and I was told that I would have to wait for an update for iPhone. So I guess I'll just continue powering off my phone, until this problem is solved by Apple.

  • Having trouble updating apps

When ever I try to update the apps on iTunes or my iPhone it says "(app name)" could not be purchased at this time, please try again later. Well... its has been much later and I still cant update my apps. It was saying this even before i updated my iPhone and iTunes. So I dont know how to fix it. Any suggestions? Also I cannot download any apps. It says the same exact thing. On iTunes,on the computer it says An unknown error has occurred (5002).

  • Trouble updating apps on IPad 2

Ever since I updated my IOS to the latest version, most of my apps won't update! I have tried everything on the boards and still nothing. Last weekend, I did update my apps using my computer but don't want to have to go through this all the time! As soon as I updated the apps, it seems most of the same ones came back with new updates and now the same problem. I am at my wits end. I would restore, but have spent way too much on some of these apps to lose it all. I really need help!

Telling is that you apps will not update doesn't tell much except for .... Well your apps won't update. That's not much information to go on. Do the downloads stall? Do they start at all? Error messages?
And what makes you think that you will lose your apps if you restore the iPad? You can restore to factory settings, restore from a backup and then sync with iTunes and get all of your information, apps, data ... All of it back. If you do it's openly, you will not lose anything.
But before you restore or even think about restoring, describe what is going on when you try to update your apps.
BTW ..... You can download purchased apps again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought them with.

    what gives?

    Hello Camp06,
It sounds like you are unable to update your apps that you have in iTunes due to a network error. I would start by using the troubleshooting in the following article named:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
    Troubleshoot issues on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes and Safari to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. Follow these steps to configure your firewall.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Learn how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.
If the issue persists I would next try the steps in the advanced article found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting

  • Unable to use updated AppleID so can't update apps

Hi there, I am having trouble updating apps in my app store.
    1) I had an old email address that no longer exists as an Apple ID. About 3 months ago, I went into the same account and simply changed the AppleID AND email address to my new email address. The change of name and seems to be accepted everywhere on my Mac. Everything I had access to before, I still have access to. So same accounts just different names. I have done numerous updates using the updated AppleID that is tied to the same old account.
    2) Today I see another round of updates in the App Store, and I am unable to change the Apple ID's when it asks for confirmation. Even when I signout then sign-in again with the new/updated ID, when I click on updates, a screen pops up asking for confirmation of my username and password. The problem is it displays my old username and I cannot change it to my new one. It is simply grayed out.
Again, I have signed in with the updated name, have done updates before with this, and look to be currently signed in with the new username, I just simply don't know how to change the AppleID in the the confirmation
My end goal is simply updating these apps now and in the future should this ever happen again.

    Hi KrtrKpr,
If you are having an issue with applications on your iPhone being stuck in the middle of an update, I would suggest that your restart the iPhone. See this article -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

  • I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state.

I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state. I have tried signing out/in of my account, rebooting and removing/re-installing the apps.  This started shortly after going to iOS 5 but I am not certain if that is related.  All updates that I try now are stuck in "waiting".  I also tried removing the apps and then installing via iTunes desktop sync with no improvement.  The only thing that I have not tried so far is a restore to a prior iPhone backup.  I have not been able to find anything to indciate what the updates on waiting on.  There is plenty of space on the iPhone (16gb available).  Any suggestions on what to try next?

    Hello there, Missy.
First thing I would recommend is to check your downloads queue to make sure there is not an interrupted download per the following Knowledge Base article:
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1725
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    1. From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
    2. For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
    3. Enter your account name and password if prompted.
    4. Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
If you can't complete the download on your iOS device, you can download it in iTunes on your Mac or PC and then sync it to your iOS device. You can also transfer purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer.
For Apps, you can also try tapping on the application icon to resume the download, as outline in this featured discussion:
App updates won't download on my...: Apple Support Communities
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
