Trouble Updating Firmware

I've gone through the forum to look for issues similar to mind but have found none. I have a brand spanking new 17" Mac Book Pro--it just came in the mail today--and want to run Boot Camp. This is the information in Hardware:
Boot ROM Version: MBP21.00A5.B01
SMC Version: 1.14f5
Obviously my firmware is not up to date, and to run Boot Camp I need to update it. I've downloaded the firmware updates more than once (MacBookProFirmwareUpdate.dmg), and each time they tell me that "This computer does not need this update".
Could somebody tell me what I am doing wrong?
  Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It's because I'm more up-to-date than the firmware, isn't it? I feel like a tool if that's the case.

  • Trouble updating Firmware for OS X Tiger install

    Hi,
I'm having trouble installing OS X Tiger. I currently have OS 10.2.8 installed and get a message that I need to update my firmware in order to install Tiger, but the only firmware update I can find is for OS 9. Is there any way to accomplish this without having to reinstall OS 9?
    Thanks,
    Pete

Updating the firmware on your model of iMac can only be done when a Mac OS 9 system is used to start up the computer; this system can be located on the hard disk, an USB flash or hard disk, or an external FireWire hard disk. You cannot use the system on a Mac OS 9 CD for this purpose without installing it.

  • Trouble updating firmware on Linksys SRW2016.

We have had some trouble with one of our switches (an SRW2016) the existing image fails checksum check and the switch does not function.
We can/have connected to the console port and the switch boots and demands a new copy of the firmware be downloaded using XMODEM.
So here we get to the problem:
Hyperterminal, Advanced Serial Port Terminal and PuTTY have not been able to successfully download the copy of firmware we downloaded from Cisco. It all seems to work as the instructions on the Cisco web site say it should, right up to the commencement of the XMODEM download which stops almost immediately with no error and the switch appears to hang.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

I suggest you ask your question in the Cisco Small Business Support Community. The SRW is now part of Cisco Small Business. In the cisco community you'll find some Cisco people who may be able to help you better...

  • Trouble updating firmware on HP D110

I just bought an HP D110 and I have connected it to my network succesfully - it prints fine. However, when I go to update the firmware or run any apps, it says it cannot connect to the internet.
I should not that it's not really "my" network, it comes from upstairs in the house that I'm renting. There is no password to sign onto the network and I don't know what model the router is, although I do know the brand is CISCO and when I sign into it, the first time I try to go to a website it does ask me for a password, kind of like when you use wi-fi at a hotel. If possible, I would like to download the firmware without having to get the people upstairs involved, so any help you can offer would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

I need to update the firmware to allow Apple Air Print. I have an HP Photosmart D110 but not sure if this is a or b model. Please advise how to do this from the printer panel or otherwise.

  • Trouble updating Firmware for BEFW11S4

I'm using a BEFW11S4 Version 3.  I recently wired it to a new computer with Vista and everything works great, but I haven't been able to update the Firmware.  According to the setup page, I'm using Firmware Version 1.45.10 Apr 15 2004.  I downloaded the new firmware and tried updating it from the "upgrade firmware" option on the "Help" tab, but that didn't do anything.  Then I tried downloading and using the "setup wizard," and it claims it installed properly, but my Firmware version is still 1.45.10.  Curiously, the "upgrade firmware" page layout changed a little after this.  When I tried using this new version of the "upgrade firmware" page, in Netscape it says "Please Wait!  Setup will take a few minutes" and sits there indefinitely (I've left it for hours), and in Explorer it gets interrupted with message "Upgrade action is not finish!! Upgrade file pattern error."  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Okay… go to ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/ and download TFTP.exe, save this file on computer, run this file it would ask for server address and password…provide IP address of router as a server address and password of router and browse the firmware file and try upgrading firmware using tftp application…

  • Trouble updating my AirPort Extreme firmware.

I purchased my AirPort Extreme in 2009. It has been functioning fine. Just yesterday, none of the remote devices in our house could access the WiFi. I called our Internet provider (Charter) and they said it was probably an issue with needing to update my firmware. I am having trouble figuring out what version of AirPort Extreme I have, and what the most recent update on it is. As far as I can see, I originally purchased v. 6.3.4, and it has since been updated to v. 7.6.4. I have OS X Yosemite on my Mac. Am I up to date, or do I need to purchase another version of AirPort Extreme? If so, which one, or can I simply update what I have?

I called our Internet provider (Charter) and they said it was probably an issue with needing to update my firmware.
I'm sure that  they were trying to help.....but since you already have the most up to date firmware (7.6.4) on your AirPort Extreme and you are running the most up to date operating system on your Mac (10.10.1)........their idea of you probably needing to update firmware (when you are already updated) would not seem to offer much value. Unfortunately, it appears that they were just guessing without gathering facts.
Just yesterday, none of the remote devices in our house could access the WiFi.
Not at all sure what you mean here. Can you please clarify?
Are you saying that none of the wireless devices in your home can even "see" the wireless network at all?
Or, are you saying that they can "see" the wireless network, but cannot connect?
Or, are you saying that they can "see" the wireless network, can connect, but cannot get an Internet connection?
I am having trouble figuring out what version of AirPort Extreme I have
Your tagline above indicates that you have a 2nd Generation version of the AirPort Extreme. But, let's check.
Please look on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme for the model number. It might be embedded in the foam pad. The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers. Post back with that number, please.
Are there any other troubleshooting steps that you have performed?  Please provide details.

having trouble with my Airport Utility not supporting either of my Airports Expresses or Basestation. Do i have to update Firmware of airports or is the issue with my version of Utility which i believe is the latest. Thank you.

AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older versions of the AirPort Express.....model numbers A1084 and A1088. Check on the side of the Express for the model number.
In addition, AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older "round" or "dome" shaped versions of the AirPort Extreme.
Can you check to see how your devices might be affected?

  • Can't seem to update firmware on Zen Xtra (3

I am having trouble upgrading firmware on player.
I am trying to go from .0.0 to .20.08.
Followed instructions and removed current OS from player.
Launched the upgrade firmware file and followed instructions.
Where I seem to be having trouble...is after the upgrade seems to be proceeding nicely and get to the end of the progress status bar...the PC GUI says "the player is now rebooting"...but
    the player does not rebot.
I think this is necessary...because if I manually boot from the rescue menu...i simply go back to the original OS.
I am having other trouble as well.
I am trying to upgrade the firmware because i can't seem to get any music to transfer to the player anymore.
I have not tried to move content into the player for along time...and since that time I have a new PC.
I can't seem to put my hands on the original CD that came with the player...so I went to the Creative Website and downloaded the most recent Media Source Organizer. It gives me a file transfer error when I try to move new content onto the player...so I thought I would update the firmware on the player.
Any help would be appreciated....thank you very much.

  • Trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable

I am trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 to be able to use the airprint feature but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable. I have tried restarting the macbook, turning on and off the printer, repairing permissions, deleting and redownloading the update what else can I do? The prinyrt works fine otherwise...

If there are no drivers for Yosemite you might be in trouble.. HP will tend not to support printers once they are EOL.
Getting it running over wireless rather than USB might be worthwhile.
Can’t connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Has the printer been working and now failed after update.. what update caused the failure if that is the problem??

  • Nokia 6125 Accept Software Update (firmware)?

Hi, my nokia 6125 has present a blank screen by 5 at 10 seconds and go back to main screen while I use the phone. Other things how cannot select a profile (only General profile can be use) and aleatory alarm. Using *#0000# I see Nokia Cougar RM-178 Vp 03.05. I was thinking about software update (firmware) can resolve this trouble? I'm sorry about my english... Fabricio

If it says "Nokia Prototype" and "Nokia Property", then it could be a prototype phone that was sold illegally (whomever gets them are supposed to return them to Nokia in order for the device to be destroyed after testing and after final devices become available).
A Nokia repair center will not fix or support prototypes. They also do not have any kind of warranty.
Or, someone might have just changed the startup message as a joke and it is not an actual prototype at all.
You can see if it is a prototype, also if the serial number (so called IMEI, International Mobile Equipment Identifier) starts with zeros (0). Type *#06# on the standby screen and the phone will display the IMEI.
If it really is a prototype, then you should go back to whomever sold it and request a refund of your money, and then go and buy a supported, released device, instead.

  • N70 Wont update firmware :(

    Hi all.
Is anyone else having trouble updating their N70?
When i try to use the software it says im already running the most up to date version of the firmware however people in other threads are saying they have considerably higher version than mine.
    My fone says it is...
    V 3.0546.2.3
    18-11-05
    RM-84
    My code is 0529237
Before i tried to update i downloaded and installed the latest versions of PC Suite, Cable Driver and NSU.
Is there anyway to manually download/update my fones firmware?
    Any ideas/help much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

Nokia is the one who builds new firmware based on operator requests, but Nokia cannot distribute it before operator (in this case O2) has approved it. Without knowing specifically what is the issue in your phone I would suggest you to be in contact with local Nokia Service Point or to your operator to check if there is newer fw available that way. If no success, I'd suggest you keep bugging the operator, so they will either approve new fw or pressure Nokia to make new one... (dunno which one is the case here)BTW, have you tried to call or email to Nokia Care? They may be able to help you fixing your issue even if there is no new fw available.
Unfortunately there is no way to manually update your phone fw. If you try to do some 'experiments', you may end up into situation where you lose the warranty, or in worst case - dead phone.

    please help me thanks

OK, so the firmware is the same as mine, and yet Apple Support offered this EFI and SMC update packages, which should give a message that our computers are updated.
However, the update packages fail to run.
Did Apple neglect to give the correct update for the mid-2012 issue of MacBook Pro 13-inch?  I have the i7 Intel processor, instead of the i5, and I was sold this unit as having two processors, but the System info only lists a single processor.
Is one of the problems with Intel-based MacBook Pro units that the integration wasn't without bugs that cause processor hang when running the OS Lion, even with updates to 10.7.5?
Shouldn't the EFI and SMC updaters run on these machines as stated in the Apple Support article?
What will Apple do for these customers?

  • How to install OS 9.2.1 on G3 with no OS; says needs updated firmware, how?

I am trying to install OS 9.2.1 in an old G3 which at present has no OS in it.
The screen says it needs updated firmware to do so. When I try to follow instructions, it tells me the CD is locked, which is obvious since it is an installation CD. Other instructions seem to assume there is already an older OS in the machine to update. Anyone with an idea of how to break this log jam?
    [email protected]

    Hi wmarina !
Welcome to the Discussions, and Happy Thanksgiving!
The only G3 that will give you a Firmware Update warning when trying to install OS 9, is a Blue & White G3 tower.......
If that's what you have, then getting OS 9 onto it is a bit of a Catch-22, Can o' Worms, P.I.T.A., or whatever other favorite sayings you may have for a difficult job........
"Other instructions seem to assume there is already an older OS in the machine to update."
Very astute observation, and 100% correct.
The OS that is assumed to be on the B&W's drive is MINIMUM 8.5.1, and therein lies the Catch-22.....
A BOOTABLE 8.5.1 Install CD is NOT available as a RETAIL CD........
The Retail CD is 8.5 install, with the 8.5.1 UPDATER, which is also on the CD.......
The 2nd part of this problem is that the Firmware Updater (which is on the OS9.1 CD) MUST be run from the booted Hard Drive with 8.5.1 on it.........
    Your options are:
    1. Find a set of the ORIGINAL SOFTWARE CDs that shipped with a Blue & White G3, and install the original OS from there.........
    2. Do what I had to do. Take out the Hard Drive and move it to an older Mac (i.e. Beige), and install OS 8.5 on it, and update it to 8.5.1, take the Hard Drive out and re-install it into the B&W again, boot to it, and do the Firmware update at that time.........
Note that NO Mac can boot to an EARLIER version OS than it shipped with when new, which is why you will have to use a beige to install 8.5.1 to that hard drive........
As a secondary note, to avoid more problems, get a new Pram battery (1/2 AA 3.6V).
    Available at any Radio Shack.
    Good Luck !
    Kevin
