Trouble Updating iPod on Home Computer Only

Here is my situation. I just received my replacement iPod and when I got home I hooked it up to my computer and things seemed to be going just fine. It asked for me to set it up and name it etc. I started dragging songs onto it (about 400). When it got to about 200 the window popped up again asking me to set it up, name it etc. I click cancel and the songs were not longer downloading, but it was still connected and seemed to be working fine. Then I tried dragging songs onto it again and the window popped up again asking me to set it up. I clicked cancel and the iPod reset itself and started up in Disk Mode, just awesome. This is the problem I had with the first one. Then when I go to update it using version 10-12-2005 or the 11-17-2005 updater I get a variety of errors, "Can't mount iPod", "Firmware update error", "The attached iPod not supported...etc", and a few others I can't recall. I have tried both the software from the cd and the software from the website both with the same results. I even read that changing the drive letter in Disk Manager could work so I changed it to M:\. So after all this I started to think that maybe its the computer. I just wiped the hard drive two weeks ago and I only have XP Pro and Service Pack 2 install with maybe 3 other programs. When I brought the iPod to work and ran the updater it worked fine with no issues and interfaced with iTunes with no problems either. Am I missing something or are there some steps that I can try? I know it's not the iPod now but something with my computers setup at home is making it wacky. I'm scared to plug in the iPod when I get home for fear it will crash again. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How do I switch my iPod's "home computer?"

I need to know how to switch my ipod nano's "home computer." Currently, I get all of my podcasts and upload photos from my IBM laptop. But I recently got a Dell desktop that I want to use as my primary iTunes machine. How can I switch so that my Dell desktop is the one that updates my iPod content, not the desktop. And I have all the updated software. Thanks.

  • Trouble syncing iPod w/ another computer

When I plug my iPod into my home computer, it tells me the iPod is synced with another iTunes library (from my laptop). The first time it said this, it gave the option to sync my home iTunes library without erasing the songs already on my iPod (from my laptop iTunes library). I didn't have time to mess with it, so I just hit Cancel. Now it only gives the option of "Erase and Sync" (erasing everything on the iPod and replacing it with my home iTunes library).
How do I sync my home iTunes library onto my iPod without erasing the songs already on the iPod? Thanks for the help!

You need to connect to your home itunes and change the setting to manual rather than auto synch. so the next time you plug into your home computer it will not erase the stuff from your lap top. If you want something really good go on ebay and search ipod software. can't really mention it on here but if you look carefully you will find something that will help you out a lot. hint hint

  • Help I am having trouble updating Ipod's

Help I am having trouble updating our Ipod's & Iphone.  I have followed the troubleshooting on Itunes error page, but still not working.
I don't have an error number just this message -  "There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone "A's iphone" the network connection was reset.
Itunes downloads the update, but at the end gives the error message. I have the latest itunes installed and Microsoft is up to date, nothing else connected via  usb. This happens with our ipods as well. Thankyou

  • Troubles updating ipod, cannot disconnect, songs erased (tried the 5 Rs)

    hey guys,
i'm sorry to ask for help with my first post but i've been having some issues with my 2nd gen iPod nano lately. when i connect my iPod to my computer, i get a message in iTunes saying "Songs on the iPod "Han's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist". in between the last update i deleted a few playlists, added a few more songs and deleted some songs. i then went to eject my iPod but i get the message "The iPod "Han's iPod" cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application", when i get this message, the space in iTunes where it displays what you are playing shows "Updating iPod. Do not disconnect.". after trying and failing to find a way to eject it, i just stopped the usb device and unplugged my iPod. then when i tried to use my iPod, i found that everything on it had been wiped and there was nothing on my iPod anymore. so i went to the apple website and tried all five Rs but none of them worked. could someone here please help me with my problem? i'm currently running iTunes 7.0.2 which i believe is the latest version. i'm currently using windows 2000 and it automatically updates every week so i assume i have the latest service pack.
    thanks

been away last few days, still need help.
    bump bump.
    thanks.

  • Playing iPod on home computer system

I need some advice regarding playing iTunes-purchased songs over my home computer system. I've seen various products that permit one to load music files onto a hard drive component linked to the stereo and even link to TV screens to control song selection, etc. None that I can find will play any songs purchased from iTunes. My house is set up in a way that does not easily permit plugging my iPod directly into the stereo and Air Tunes requires me to be at my computer to control song selection, etc. I just want remote access to song files (my house is fully wired) but don't want to give up all the iTunes music I've purchased. What am I missing? Is there a solution? Thanks in advance.

  • Trouble hooking ipod to the computer

I am new to the ipod.  I downloaded an ebook from my library onto my itunes on my computer.  Then I attached my ipod to the computer. Nothing is showing up on my computer that indicated that my ipod is actually connected.  Any advice?

YamiPod takes files from your iPod and puts them back to your computer.

  • My daughters computer crashed, got new one. Trying to transfer ipod to new computer only does some of content tells me I need to aurtherize computer my wife shared itunes with daughter that ipod is gone now and dont have password.

Trying to transfer ipod to new computer. It is telling me to autharize computer. Had another ipod on same account, it gone now. Don't have password or any info about it. What do I do?

The password is for your iTunes account. Not for your old iPod. Enter your Email and password will give you access to all the music you bought from iTunes.  If you forget it then I dont know how to help you there guess your SOL.

  • Trying to update ipod with different computer

Ok, so I just got my laptop back from Toshiba, and wanted to add some songs to my ipod. (Take in mind that Toshiba wiped my computer before they sent it back, and my ipod has only been used with that laptop), so when I went to update my ipod it deleted all 1241 songs from my ipod and replaced them with the 4 I wanted to add. So I need to know how do you update with other computers. Like my desktop for example, I can;t update my ipod on it now without deleting my entire library of songs......Maybe I should go back to iriver

  • Trouble Updating iPod, Please Help

Every time I try to update my iPod (nano), I get the message:
"Songs on the iPod "Owners iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selecting for updating no longer exist."
Does anyone know what this means? I've tried to reinstall iTunes, and pretty much any thing else the website reccomends. If you know what to do, I'd really apperciate your help. Just as a note (not sure if it matters) all my generic playlists, like Top 25 Most Played or Top 25 Rated were erased. Also, I have no songs under the "Owners iPod" list anymore. All my songs are listed only under "Library". I tried to transfer the songs to the "Owners iPod" list, but it wouldn't let me.
    Thanks

Have a look at this previous post and see if it helps: "iPod cannot sync because one or more playlist does not exist" http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=607312

  • Trouble updating ipod software

Yesterday I hooked my Ipod up to my computer (IBM Thinkpad running Windows XP Pro on a Centrino processor) it asked me to update my Ipod software. After it was complete it started showing a weird icon which i couldnt find in the ipod iconology in support. It looks like the cable that connects to the base of the ipod with an arrow pointing to the ipod. I plugged it into the power source, to the computer, tried resetting the ipod and that icon still appears. Help would be much appreciated... thank you

For iOS 4.2 you need to update the OS on your computer to 10.5.8. If you call the Apple store they will sell you copy for $129. It is not listed in their on-line store. Besides the OS, you may want to et more memory too since 10,5.x needs more than 10.4.x.

  • Trouble updating ipod

My ipod will not update any new songs from itunes, manually or automatically. The problem started recently after the apple store retored it due to a battery issue...(which still exists).
I plugged it back into the computer, and it downloaded all of the songs, even those unchecked, now, I can't get any songs on or off. I've been through several posts w/ similar topics, and I've done all the obvious. Please let me know if there is something I'm missing.
