  • Help I am having trouble updating Ipod's

Help I am having trouble updating our Ipod's & Iphone.  I have followed the troubleshooting on Itunes error page, but still not working.
I don't have an error number just this message -  "There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone "A's iphone" the network connection was reset.
Itunes downloads the update, but at the end gives the error message. I have the latest itunes installed and Microsoft is up to date, nothing else connected via  usb. This happens with our ipods as well. Thankyou

  • Troubles updating ipod, cannot disconnect, songs erased (tried the 5 Rs)

    hey guys,
i'm sorry to ask for help with my first post but i've been having some issues with my 2nd gen iPod nano lately. when i connect my iPod to my computer, i get a message in iTunes saying "Songs on the iPod "Han's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist". in between the last update i deleted a few playlists, added a few more songs and deleted some songs. i then went to eject my iPod but i get the message "The iPod "Han's iPod" cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application", when i get this message, the space in iTunes where it displays what you are playing shows "Updating iPod. Do not disconnect.". after trying and failing to find a way to eject it, i just stopped the usb device and unplugged my iPod. then when i tried to use my iPod, i found that everything on it had been wiped and there was nothing on my iPod anymore. so i went to the apple website and tried all five Rs but none of them worked. could someone here please help me with my problem? i'm currently running iTunes 7.0.2 which i believe is the latest version. i'm currently using windows 2000 and it automatically updates every week so i assume i have the latest service pack.
    thanks

been away last few days, still need help.
    bump bump.
    thanks.

  • Updating iPod from iTunes sporadically causes system reboot

This one is driving me slowly crazy, so help is appreciated.
I'm running version 6.0.4.2 of iTunes and iPod updater 2006-03-23 on a Windows XP Media Center PC with a 20 gig iPod Photo. Have been blissfully using iPod and iTunes for months with zero issues with regular updates when prompted.
Over the last couple of weeks, my computer is sporadically rebooting in the middle of an iPod update. This usually happens in the following sequence:
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Connect iPod
    4. Automatic update happens
    5. Make some changes in iTunes, such as downloading new podcasts
    6. Update iPod manually using File, Update iPod
    VOILA! Reboot.
It doesn't always happen on the manual update. Sometimes, it happens with the automatic update (although less often). Every once in a while the manual update goes through just fine.
After this started happening, I thought long and hard about any system changes and had installed a new DVD/CD burner program, so I removed it, rebooted, reset the iPod, updated both iTunes and the iPod updater. Just for good measure I ran a full virus scan and AdAware to get rid of any unknown nasties.
Well, it's still happening and I am stumped and annoyed. Any ideas on what I might be able to do here?
    Thanks a lot!

    hi Heather!
are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
    love, b

  • Updating iPod  hangs iTunes

I have a laptop that I use on a docking station at home and at the office. My iTunes library is on an external hard drive at home, and I play songs directly off my 60GB video iPod at work.
This setup has worked fine in the past, but I have recently been having some issues connecting my iPod at work. The "Updating iPod" message appears, and the spinning activity icon appears next to my iPod in the left-hand menus. It works fine for a while, but soon the spinning icon stops and iTunes freezes. I can CtrlAltDelete out of iTunes but that is it.
I have tried the 5 Rs (short of re-formatting the iPod since I don't really think that is the issue!) but am a loss as to what to do next. Any ideas?

Hey, you the man. I just want to say thank you. I hooked up a just repaired touch wheel iPod to my son's g4 iMAC, and it kept hanging on random songs and even the one's it transferred, it did slowly. I tried everything everyone else has, I did restores and erases forever. And it kept hanging up, so I had to frequently disconnect the iPod to get control back of the computer. This morning I was on the phone with Apple tech for over an hour. His conclusion was that because some of the songs weren't purchased from the Apple Store, I needed to manually transfer each song one at a time. I had to go, so didn't get to try it until later today and same problem. Again I called Apple tech support. Guy was very nice, on phone with him for 90 minutes, he didn't think the first advice made much sense. He gave up in frustration when we couldn't get into the disk utility because iPod kept going to automatic update. He told me to call back tomorrow and speak to a specialist. He said he's never had this much difficulty with an iPod. After the call, I managed to get into the disk utillity and do the erase and repair but didn't do anything. When I finally deactivated the auto update, manually transferring the songs one at a time didn't solve the problem. I read your post, started up after disconnecting the iSight firewire cable, took a chance of activating auto update of songs again, and voila, it transferred all the songs (all 176 of them) in about 10 seconds, like a warm knife through butter. And as they said on Saturday Night Live, it felt "like butter." I will call Apple tomorrow and tell them they really need to do something about this. In the meantime, I'll keep iSight disconnected whenever songs are being transferred into the iPod.
Again, your advice is much appreciated. Thank you for the post.

  • I am having trouble updating apps through iTunes, iTunes shuts down when I try to sync.

I am having trouble updating apps that I have on my iPhone through iTunes.  I go through the update then when syncing I get an error message iTunes has to shut down.  The only way I have been able to work around is to delete the app and download it again.  If I don't do this the app says waiting on my iPhone.

I just got the same message myself. Which I have only had 2 times in three years, so I checked here.
    http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/
There is an issue with the iTunes Store on Apple's end, so I assume that is why we cannot connect.

  • Updating iPod in Itunes 7

I've found yet another problem in iTunes 7, and I can't find any discussion or solutions so far.
While I'm hesitant to update my iPod firmware from 1.1 to 1.2, for the first time last night I was unable to move a Video Podcast onto my iPod because my "software is not current". I got this error from iTunes.
However, when I attempt to update my iPod from the iPod page in iTunes7 = I click on the update button > iTunes then ejects my iPod > then a pop up displays with a progress bar with the verbiage "updating iPod".
Nothing is being updated because the iPod was ejected. I've left this window for over 15 minutes thinking maybe just maybe.... but iTunes is actually locked and not responding. I have to use Task Manager to shut it down.
Has anyone else ran into this problem, more importantly anyone solved this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

okay, let's try upgrading to itunes 7.0.2.16 and then trying another update. (so far, 7.0.2.16 seems to be doing a bit better than the earlier 7.0.x versions when it comes to updating ipods.)

  • Cannot Update iPod in iTunes 7.01

i can't seem to update my ipod in itunes 7.01. right before the 'updating xxx's ipod' thing shows up, it ejects it. yes, i've also tried putting it in disk mode but it still doesn't work. the current software for my 5G is 1.1.1, trying to go to 1.2.

perhaps check on the possibility from the following document (i've seen it produce similar symptoms a few times):

  • Trouble synchronizing IPOD and ITunes

I had the Ipod and ITunes syncing up correcting under my old laptop under Windows XP Professional. I got a new laptop with Windows XP Professional. I copied all the songs from the old to the new laptops and syncing was ok. The new laptop developed a problem, and I got a new replacement. I copied all the songs to the second new laptop and tried to sync up the laptop. Songs play okay in itunes, but the Ipod was wiped clean. Any ideas? I would hate to go back to reload CD's from my collection. Thanks.

It says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please  install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel" :/ it says this when i try to reinstall and uninstall
