Trouble Updating iPod w/ New iTunes

I downloaded the newest version of iTunes yesterday. Now I cannot sync my ipod. When I try, it gets about 3/4 through, then freezes. I have to do alt/ctrl/del and end the program. I tried completely unistalling and then reinstalling iTunes. It did not work.
I have the ipod 30gb w/ docking station (the one with the row of four buttons below the screen). Running Win XP.
My Shuffle and mini still sync just fine, which leads me to believe the problem is with by ipod.

  • Long time to update iPod with new iTunes

Is there a reason why my iPod takes forever to update with the new iTunes? It seems like it takes much longer, and it seems like its not even doing anything. What can I do to speed it up?
    Thanks.

Agreed. ITunes seems to recognize the Ipod as quickly as it did before I upgraded, and to transfer the files about as fast. When this process is complete, after the files have been transferred, in the little space at the top (that had shown progress in transferring files) the message says "Ipod update is complete" and "OK to disconnect" - but it isn't complete, and it isn't OK. At the left of ITunes, where the Ipod can be selected (and disconnected from ITunes), the whirling symbol indicating update in progress can still be seen, and an attempt to disconnect the Ipod from ITunes yields a message saying update still in progress.
An extra five minutes isn't a tragedy; still, I have no idea why transferring the files used to be the end of the update, but no longer is.

  • Can't Update to the new Itunes+Quicktime package

I am trying to update to the new Itunes 10 + Quicktime package. The problem seems to lie with Quicktime. It fails every time. I tried to uninstall it, and it says "another installation is in progress" blah blah blah. This is even when I have just restarted my computer and have done nothing else. I followed the Apple troubleshoot which said to delete temp files, which I did and it still failed at installing. I'm not sure what else to do. I'm afraid to uninstall Itunes because I don't know if this has an effect on my music (will I lose it?)
Anyway, someone please help me I just got a new Ipod touch, and I want to use it and this is so frustrating!!
    Thanks,
    Allison

I get the same error message when I attempt to uninstall it "another program is being installed. Please wait until that installation is complete and then try installing this software again."
Okay ... checking on something else you said earlier:
Also, I checked on Windows Installer and it is running.
Actually, that one shouldn't be running if an install is not currently taking place. So let's check on Services.
In your Start Menu, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services and Applications".
Open "Services". Maximise the Window to see what is going on.
If the Windows Installer Service is running, stop the service.
Now right-click on the Service and select "Properties". In the general tab, make sure that "Startup type" is set to "Manual". OK out of the tab.
Restart the PC and try another install ... any better luck this time?

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

I have this issue.  Album artwork was totally fine before.  After this update, it is all messed up and even got messed up when transferred to my iphone.
iTunes doesn't have the artwork anymore, but then iPhone has it but shows wrong artwork with wrong albums.
    Please fix!

  • I am getting an error message when I try to update to the new iTunes version

I am having issues updating to the new iTunes Version 11.4

To everyone that is having this problem:
I just ended a 2 hour session with Apple Tech Support.  We had to take it to a level 2 support person, but finally got it running.  Here's what she had me do.  Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.  Uninstall ALL Apple products on the Computer.  This inccluded Apple Mobile Device Itunes, Bonjour and Quicktime.  I doubt if we would have had to but she had me download a fresh copy of iTunessetup.exe and run it.  iTunes came up and ran on version 11.1.4.  Then I reinstalled Quicktime.
It is my personal opinion that there is a flaw in version 11.1.4.  You shouldn't have to go through all of these hoops just to update a single application that was working fine proir to the update attempt.
That's what worked for me.  Hope this helps you.  Any questions, get back to me.
    Good Luck.

  • Hello after updating to the new iTunes i got a box saying that i needed a new version of Apple Mobile Device Support and ihat i should uninstall iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support then install iTunes again.  I have been unable to uninstall itunes

Hello- after updating to the new iTunes i got a box saying that i needed a new version of Apple Mobile Device Support and ihat i should uninstall iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support then install iTunes again.  Problem is I have been unable to uninstall itunes, can't find the installation files .msi.  I'm using Windows XP.
    Help!

Problem is I have been unable to uninstall itunes, can't find the installation files .msi.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

How could anyone possibly know as you've provided no details.
What happens when trying to play the media in question?
    Any errors?
Is there an ! to the left of the media?  If so, this means iTunes is unable to locate the media file.

  • Old iPOD to new iTunes on new computer to new nano.  Is this possible

I have an old iPOD and I have a new nano and new computer.   I want to get music from old iPOD to new iTunes on new computer to new nano.  Is this possible

Yes.  You'll want to copy all the content from the older iPod back to your new iTunes library first.  Once you have successfully copied and stored all of this content in your new iTunes library, you can set it up to sync to your new Nano.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Transfering songs on iPod to new iTunes on new computer (Mac)

I just purchased a Mac. How do I transfer all the songs I have in my iPod to the iTunes in my new Mac?
I read one post (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329), but it very confusing.
At first glance, I though that the web site would be helpful, but it is not. Here is why: The first series of instructions asks that I do things with my old computer - I DON'T HAVE AN OLD COMPUTER. It is gone and now I have a new Mac with no music in my iTunes in the new Mac. I do, however, have an Ipod with all the songs on that.
Therefore, I scrolled down to the sections dealing with the new computer. The first section was "Get iTunes ready on your new computer." However, I already have iTunes on the new computer so I skipped that. The next section was for backing up any music on the new computer. I do not have any music on the new computer yet!!
So I next turned to "Copy music to new computer." Step number 3 says to "Locate the iPod on the new computer" but the prior instructions (1 and 2) never instructed me to connect my iPod to the new computer. Am I supposed to? If so, won't iTunes automatically start updating my Ipod (with all my songs on it!) and since I do not have any songs on my iTunes, everything on my iPod will be deleted? Help . . .
*Isn't there just a simple way to do it?*

*won't iTunes automatically start updating my Ipod (with all my songs on it!) and since I do not have any songs on my iTunes, everything on my iPod will be deleted? Help . . .*
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
