Trouble Updating ITunes v 10.6.3 to Windows Version 5.1 Running as XP

I am running Windows Version 5.1 (runs as XP) and have been attempting to upgrade to ITunes version 10.6.3.  Each time I download the update file from ITunes, it seems to download alright, then starts to install and then gives the following error message:
The path 'C:\Documents and Setting\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\iTunes.msi' cannot be found.  Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package \iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes.
The file itunes.msi is present and appears to be complete (same size as the download file).  I've also tried to do an new install and receive the same message when the install attempts to remove the old files resident on the hard drive.
Any suggestions as to how to correct this problem?

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Thanks for the update.
nothing is getting installed, copied or otherwise loaded onto my computer....first the program starts to load, then it asks for my serial number, then it goes out and seems to check the serial number then it says it can't be installed then it erases everything it just spent 10 minutes loading.
In view of the above and your prior descriptions, have you tried alternative installation files?
If you want to give a look to that approach, please download and install the tryout files for Premiere Elements 9 from the following web site and then insert your purchased serial number into them during installation.
With this route, you need to carefully carry out the web site's "Note: Very Important Instructions" in order to avoid an Access Denied message.

Are you getting any Shared Technologies error message any where in the installation process that is failing?
If you follow the following path, do you find an OOBE Folder?
    Local Disk C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files Folder
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder should be the OOBE Folder which you rename from OOBE to OLDOOBE to disable it.
When you are forced into a roll back for whatever installation has taken place, do you ever see a message about Shared Technologies?
And, whether or not the program installs to any extent, does your computer have the OOBE Folder? If so, then please rename it to disable it before
you try for another 9 install.
    Looking forward to your results.

Having trouble updating itunes v10.5 onto XP pro. " There is aproblem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. any advise?

    1. Open the control panel
    2. Open Add/Remove programs (called "Programs and Features" in Windows 7)
    3. Navigate to "Apple Software Update" in the list and click on it
    4. Click on "Change" then select "Repair" (or just select the repair option in Windows 7)
Once you repair this, try running iTunes and the update again.
    Fingers crossed!

  • I am having trouble updating Itunes saying that it can't find the Itunes.msi folder how can I get it make a path for it.

I am having problems updating Itunes and it is saying that it cannot find this itunes.msi folder when I even redownloaded the installing package from the internet cause it could not find it after trying to update it from the program itself. What do I do in order for it to update or download the updated version of Itunes??

    Hi, HeWhoIsNtNmd.
Thank you for the question.  To resolve this I would recommend to uninstall iTunes and all of it's components.  As you are receiving the iTunes.msi error, see the steps in the first article below.
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" alert when removing Apple software in Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3704
You will only need to process the above mentioned steps when uninstalling or updating a program and receive the .msi error.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Once you have completely uninstalled all components, download iTunes and reinstall.

  • Trouble update itune and Quictime

Can anyone help me with this issue:
Tried update itune and Quicktime, but keep getting the following errors:
    -C:\program File\Quicktime\QTsystem\QT Java.dll
    (file not found)
    -Error code: -3
When attempting open iTunes get the following error:
Quicktime 7.0.02 installed, Need Quicktime 7.0.3 or later. Reinstall iTunes.
Tried several things with no change. Don't have access to my music on iTunes any longer. Can someone help me? Thanks!
    Update:
Still can't get itune or Quicktime to work. Frustrated and tried everything I can think of.........Does anyone have any ideas!

    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
That's the Standalone installer for Quicktime 7.0.3, without iTunes bundled in. Attempt to install that after a computer restart, then restart again and try to launch iTunes (assuming the installation goes through without errors).

  • I can't update itunes to 11.0.4 on windows 7

    I can't update itunes to 11.0.4.
When I try to update a message pops up saying "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". The same thing happened with the last update. I had to uninstall and download the new version.
Every other update has worked on this laptop until then. I've just updated itunes on the other two laptops without any problems.
    Any ideas?

I've tried again but it's still not working. This time a message appears saying iTunes64.msi file not found. Check the file name and try again.

Uopgrade your MacBook Pro to OSX 10.6.8 or higher so you can run the newest iTunes.  Snow Leopard discs cost about $20 from Apple online (not available in retail stores).

  • Syncing iTunes across Different Platforms (Windws & PC) - Windows Version

Im not sure where to put this questions so I'm adding it to the iTunes for Mac secion as well. I have an iTouch that I have been using on my Windows platform iTunes. In addition to music, I also use iTunes to sync up my contacts and calendar list from Micosoft Office Oulook to my Touch.
Last week I switched to Mac and ported all my music to a new iTunes libary on my Mac. Due to issues with Office I can not use the Mac ver of office for my contacts and calendar.
I loaded VMware Fusion and Windows XP on my Mac and installed iTunes for Windows. I did not move any music, podcasts, etc... over to the Fusion/Windows iTunes - only my contacts and calendar info is on that version.
Now I have two instances of iTunes on my Mac... a Mac version and a Windows version under Fusion.
What I would like to do is:
    - Sync my iTouch for Music only using the iTunes running under Mac.
    - Sync my iTouch to the Windows version under Fusion for the contact list and calendar updates. This version will not have any music in the library.
    Questions:
    1) Can I do this without causing a melt down on my touch?
    2) What happens when you sync to a library without music? Does it erase the music on the touch?
    3) I havent tried to sync my touch to the Mac yet- what will happen when a windows based touch tries to load a mac based iTunes?
If this doesnt work I guess I could reload all my music to the Fusion(PC) version of iTunes and be done with it but I would really like to use my Mac version.
    Thanks,
    Jim

You have got to be kidding! I have been trying for months to do this between my three machines. What exactly is the point to having an iTunes account for multiple machines if you can not have the same library across them? If this isn't the stupidest thing I've come across in years, honest to Pete...
What if I use a thumb drive to keep the directories manually synced? Or does apple go the extra step to prevent this too? Can you point to a library through the intranet? I could just put up a server and point my machines to it, boy wouldn't that be speedy and elegant.
I just want to scream this is so annoying. I might as well go back to a system that works, a Windows phone... The iPhone isn't that much nicer than my old tilt.

  • Im having trouble updating itunes so u can update my iphone 4 im installing itunes on windows vista and when it installs it says it has encountered an error and cannot continue install

having problems updating my itunes so i can update my iphone4 it wont install itunes i already have itunes on my pc but it wont update it.  ive tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but to no success

    hi rhapsody!
... okay, it's not that one. a pity because we had a straightforward fix for that one (upgrading to 6.0.3.5 or 6.0.4.2).
your particular message when plugging in an ipod, can be fiddly to troubleshoot. i haven't seen many commonalities amongst the non-6.0.2.23 reports and resolutions. so we'll work through various possibilities that have had some success with various cases of this.
first, let's try some spring cleaning and maintenance. download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and spyware scans. if your security software providers offer them, do online scans too. (they can sometimes pick up malware if the security software on the PC has been compromised.) head to Windows update and make sure you're up-to-date in that regard too. do a disk cleanup, run your favorite disk checking/repair utility, and do a disk defrag. reboot.
if no joy with that, we'll check to see if you're getting an interaction between your security software and the ipod. as an experiment, try switching off your security software (antivirus, etc) prior to a synch. do you still get the itunes has message then?
if no joy with that, check to see if the drivers on your PC are up to date. this resource might be helpful with that:
Updating the drivers on your Windows PC
keep us posted on your progress.
