The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
Snow Leopard Tech Specs
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Other countries...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
NEXT:
Check that your Mac meets the System requirements for Lion...
Lion Tech Specs > http://support.apple.com/kb/SP629
If so Contact Apple in your Country to Purchase a Lion Download code...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
In the US...
1-800-MY-APPLE or 1-800-676-2775
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
Also... Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...

You should also consider more RAM... Lion is a hungry beast...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM

ITunes will not download update (either iTunes versions or iPhone software)
Need some help with a connection problem. iTunes will not fully download either an iTunes update or the iPhone software update. I am quite sure the problem is the wireless connection but I don't know how to solve.
I am running Belkin Wireless N networking with Windows XP Media Center with all updates and iTunes is the only place I have an issue. If I run a hard line to my router and hook to the LAN card, all downloads work fine. If I try to use the wireless, I get this message when I try to get the iPhone software update. "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "XXX's iPhone". The network connection was reset. I get the same message when I try to download an iTunes update.
Any ideas on what to do to get around this?
Thanks for the help.I have updated the firmware on my router, reinstalled the driver for the wireless in the PC, cleared all temp files and cache. I got iTunes to update itself. However, the 3.0.1 iPhone update will not get fully downloaded before the connection resets. I tried it 3 times last night and got to 260M the 1st time, 220 the 2nd time, and 10M the 3rd time. Is there a direct weblink to the iPhone software update that I could try to get with a browser?
Thanks -
I am using Windows 7 and had to deinstall iTunes as it failed on a previous instal. i was told to update my iphone to iOS 6 so that I could get the iOS 6 supporting version of itunes.
I have followed the FAQ to resolve install issues and have no apple software installed on my machine
During install I get a dilog box open, with a retry and cancel buttons with the notice that the iTunes install cannot access the following file:
C:\ProgramData\34BE82C4-E596-4e99-A191-52C6199EBF69\GEARIFix.exe
In Windows Explorer I can open that directory, but that .exe is not present. iTunes installer thinks its locked
the files present are
Folder - x64
DIFxAPI.dll
DifXInst64
GEARAspi.dll
GEARAspi64.dll
GEARAspiWDM
sECURITY CATALOG - gearaspiwdmx64
Help!this is the latest version of iTunes10.7.0.21 x64. The error I get is
Error writing to file
C:\ProgramData\34BE82C4-E596-4e99-A191-52C6199EBF69\GEARIFix.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory. Retry or Cancel?
Opening Windows explorer with hidden folders and files showing, I can access this directory. it contains 1 folder
x64. I can paste and delete a file to this directory, which confirms I have access.
Opening the folder x64, the following files are shown:
Folder - x64
DIFxAPI.dll
DifXInst64
GEARAspi.dll
GEARAspi64.dll
GEARAspiWDM
SECURITY CATALOG - gearaspiwdmx64
Opeing the folder x64, the following system file is shown
GEARAspiWDM.sys
I have tried all the steps to completely remove Apple software from my system as set-out in the FAQs.
I cannot delete the Temp directory as there is one file
FXSAPIDebugLogFile
Where I get the file-in-use-error
The action cannot be completed becuse the file is open in Windows Explorer
I have tried the steps advised on Apple support 5 times now but always -
Would appreciate in connecting Remote App on iPad to iTunes. It used to work find, before iTunes 11.0 - but now pop up window to input 4 digit code does not appear. Any ideas how to prompt window to open on iMac? Remote App works OK, but says that Home Sharing is not Turned On, although it is. Both devices are logged into my profile account.
You no longer need the 4 digit code in iTunes 11.
iTunes (10.0.1 or later)
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
iTunes 11 or newer: Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes by going to File > Home Sharing> Turn on Home Sharing.
iTunes 10.7 or older: Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes by going to Advanced > Turn on Home Sharing.
Connect iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a Wi-Fi network that is connected to the local network that your Mac or PC is also connected to.
Open the Remote app (software version 2.0 or later) on your mobile device.
Turn on Home Sharing in the Remote Settings screen. Make sure to sign into the same Home Sharing account you used to sign in to from iTunes on your computer.
Once Home sharing is enabled for both your computer and your mobile device, Remote app will be be able to view and control audio and video playback in your iTunes library.

What I said in the question. I have windows XP
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
I download latest updates for itunes and my iphone, when it comes to installing, it successfully downloads, but then i get a message for iphone software error=1403 file corrupted, and for itunes it downloads, then when i try to install it a message says unable to install software, file maybe corrupted!!
The iTunes update must be downloaded and installed before you try and use it to update the iPhone OS
Download iTunes 10.2.2 from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1103
When it completes it will auto mount the disc image and show you the package installer, don't try and do anything with the file until it gets to this stage.
Once that's installed reboot the Mac, run iTunes, connect your iPhone and let it sync, then hit the update button and let it complete that step by itself (which will require a restart of the iPhone) -

Latest update for Itunes and Quicktime has killed my internet
Last night i updated the latest Itunes and quicktime as per my regular software update process. The system required a reboot which i completed. I then complete permissions verifications and repairs.
I then attempt to open safari and go online it could not access the internet. Nor could it access the wi-fi config. pages. The signal of the airport was high and the router box appears to be working fine.
When i tried to open internet connect it opened the programme but could not access any details. It simply goes to the colour wheel. I attempted a reboot and experienced similar problems.
Please help!I have excactly the same problem. After completing this update my Airport card finds my home network no problem with a good strong signal, BUT I am not connected to the internet. When I look at the Network settings under the summary I have an amber'light' and the text says that whilst I am connected to my home network there is no IP address and it can not connect to the internet. Last time I had Aiprort sleep issues after a Security update and I had to memove the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleairportKext2 file to solve it. I noticed that this file is back again so deleted it, but still no joy as I can't get Airport to detect an IP address. My router is working fine as my Tiger equipped laptop connexts via Airport withy no problem, so it is something in this 10.3.9 suite of updates (iTunes/Quicktime/Security as at Nov 07) that has done it.
I now get a spinning beach ball when I select the menu bar Airport icon.
As my wife uses this computer for all her internet work and email, I am in big trouble as it is clearly all my fault. Any good samaritans that can restore marital harmony would be much appreciated. -

How can I put latest iTunes and iPod updater on a disc to send to soldier?
My brother in law is in Iraq. He has a first generation nano and I want to send him the Nike+ kit. From my understanding, he will need the latest iTunes and have to update the software on his iPod. Trouble is, he does not have Internet access and so I need to send him whatever files he might need. Believe I can download iTunes 7.0.2, but does it not go to the web to get the iPod update? Please advise how i can guarantee all needed files on a disc and no need for Internet. Thank you for your help.
You can use this updater and this version of iTunes with a first generation iPod nano, without requiring a connection to the Internet.
If you need to do this with an iPod not supported by the standalone updater, download the software on your computer, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates as the folder's path, and copy the contents of this folder to the CD. They will need to be copied back on the destination machine. More information is available in this article.

I keep getting the following message after attempting to download and install the latest update for iTunes: missing MSVCR80.dll. error 7 (windows error 126). Anyone else having this issue? How do I get iTunes back in working order?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I have the latest iTunes 12.1.2.27. However, I am unable to restore my iphone4s. iTunes was able to detect an iPhone in recovery mode.
The error is something like "Unable to restore the iphone. Make sure you have the latest iTunes and try again." This is the latest version that exists currently.
I am using MAC OS X 10.7.5.
Please advise.
I have tried all the steps in the apple support. There is nothing to backup.
If the device is showing the Connect to iTunes screen, there is nothing on the device to backup.
The first step in the update process is a backup... restore the device using that backup and try again.
