Trouble upgrading Java 5.0

Hello,
I went to download the new upgrade to 10.4 Java, release 5.
It would not let me install R5. The message I got was:
"Please run Software Update to get the latest Java before installing this upgrade."
I ran it. Nothing was added. So I downloaded release 3. It also gave me the same requesters. So I downloaded release 1, and it installed. I rebooted, went to upgrade w/ release 3, and I got the Software Update requester again.
Is there a release 2? Why won't 10.4 let me upgrade Java?
Thank you.

Regarding your original download problem, this may be of an update which you are looking for (Java for Mac OS X 10.3 Update 5) :
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/javaformacosx103update5.html
I hope you have already succeeded to update "Security Update 2007-002 (Panther)" :
http://www.apple.com/support/downloadssecurityupdate2007002panther.html
As for interpreting vulnerability info, it means someone can remotely execute malicious code on Java implemented functions on your system by using his/her bad Java applets.

Hi, not positive, but it sounds like maybe the Optical drive is flaky, but a lomg shot...
I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterpretable Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • HT202822 Upgrading Java 1.6 to 1.8

    Hello,
I need to upgrade Java 1.6 to 1.8 (I have trouble with a third party application called Wuala which could be a Java issue).
In terminal, when I enter "java -version", I get the answer :
         java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)
In About this Mac -> System Report, I see that I have Java for OS X 2013-005 installed.
When I try to install Java 8 Update 40 from www.java.com (Oracle Java), I get the message :
A newer version of Java is already installed.
You are trying to install 1.8.40.25, however 14.9.0 is already installed.
         Visit java.com/newerversionexists for more information.
As I could understand, 14.9.0 is Apple numbering for java 1.6.
On java.com/newerversionexists, I found no useful information.
I am unable to uninstall Java 1.6 from my Mac. Could anybody help ? Thanks,

    Hello Eric,
    Thanks for your answer.
Although the page your message points to deals with uninstalling Oracle Java 7 and above, I tried it.
    I had no JavaAppletPlugin.plugin under Applications/, but I had one under /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/.
So, I sent /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin (a symlink) to the Trash from the Finder (which was not exactly what was described).
Then in terminal, when I entered "java -version", I still got the answer :
         java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)
But when I tried to install Java 8 Update 40 from www.java.com (Oracle Java), it worked !
Yet again in terminal, when I enter "java -version", I still get the answer :
         java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)
Apparently I now have 2 versions of Java at the same time.
Curiously, I have no place in Safari's Preferences where I can set "Enable Java", but the Java test on java.com worked.
Curiously also, I don't have any Java icon under System Preferences.
And the problem I had with Wuala still remains...
Nevertheless, thanks a lot for helping.
    Regards,
PS : Sorry for the fonts in this message, I don't know how to change them.

can anyone help?Search the bugs database to see if someone else already reported this; if not create a new bug entry. Whatever mistake you could make, you should not be getting a NullPointerException as a result so this is at the very least a bug in the error handling of webstart.
But just some observations to try and see if you can make a difference (which is added input for your bug report). If I check JNLP examples, I see that the url specified is usually without a protocol, so it could be like this:
<jar href="/resources/applet/formeditor.jar" />The JNLP should be on the host that you service the jar from, so Webstart can fill in the host information for itself.
Also you provide a main-class; if the jar manifest specifies a main-class (and it should) you don't need to specify it in your JNLP file.

  • Trouble using Java on my MacBook

I have tried everything and I am STILL having trouble using Java and Javascript on my MacBook. I have attempted to delete and reinstall Java. I have run the update. I have checked that both Java and Javascript are turned on in Safari. I am unable to use Java and Javascript on several websites. For an example, I am unable to use the photo uploader on Facebook.com. I am using a MacBook with 2.2 GHz Intel chip and OSX 10.5.3

    Hi all,
I've got probably the same problem. Got a MacBook (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, black) and did the Apple Migration App to get all data from a PowerBook (with Leopard on it). Did all updates.
Safari and Firefox don't want to show any JavaApplet.
Is there a problem between old PowerPC and Intel-Plattform.
Maybe it would be a good idea to reinstall Java, but how?
    Thanks for suggestions!

  • Upgrade Java version in DB server.

    Hi,
in my db server current version is:

    java version "1.4.2"
To install TSM for oracle (tape backup) i was asked by SA to update server java version to jre1.7.0_07. But i have never done any work like this. Can any one help??

Actually i don't want to touch oracle/oracle software , i just want to upgrade java without hampering my oracle. Then you need to update the Java version installed in the o/s - and ignore what is installed in Oracle as that is not relevant to your problem.
What do you have installed? What Java components do you need?
You can check what is installed and available using the yum command. Basic Java can be installed using the java-<version>-openjdk.x86_64 package I think.
This is not a database question though, and I suggest that you either re-post your question to the {forum:id=822} forum, or that a moderator moves this posting there.

I'm having trouble upgrading to Garageband version 2.0.2 I downloaded the installer but whenever i click on it a window opens up that says: 'an eligible GarageBand application was not found in /Applications'
    Any help is greatly appriciated,

no i do not have garageband 2, i didnt know you had to buy it, but the whole reason i tryed to download it was because since i upgraded to Tiger my garage band wont play real instruments. The description of the 2.0.2 update said that it improves compatibility with Mac OS X Tiger, so i figured i should try that. But i guess i need to BUY garageband 2 in order to use that update. But does that mean in order for me to use my garageband effectivly again i need to BUY another product (garageband 2)?

I had to reinstall Java 6.0 and each time I try to run something requiring Java, it doesn't load. All I get is a box stating Upgrading Java Applets Chache, it runs about half way and then quits. I am getting very frustrated after working on this for 2 days.
It says "Please wait while your stored Java Applets are updated for Java SE 6". Runs for about 20 secs and then stops and the box disappears. Does anybody have any suggestions? I am not very computer savvy so please explain in simple terms.
    Thanks

    Hi
I had the exact same problem. took me days to find the solution, hope it works for you.
Click on the START button bottom left on the screen, Then look for the CONTROL PANEL button and click, (this should bring up lots of icons for programmes) on some computers its under themes and sttings I think. Click on the JAVA icon this brings up a CONTROL PANEL. Click on SETTINGS at the bottom, then click DELETE FILES. (this took a while to complete on my computer) Just to make sure after you've done this bring up the JAVA CONTROL PANEL again but this time click on ADVANCED. Then at the bottom theres is Miscellaneous, click on this and there should be JAVA QUICK STARTER with a box ticked next to it, Click on the tick and get rid of it then click on OK..
Try a website that uses Java. the cache box might appear again but just hit cancel. When I tried this i was able to use Java again.
    Hope it works

I'm having trouble upgrading to iTunes 10.6.1.  Earlier today, I opened iTunes, and received an error message that "iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  Still not sure why this happened. I followed a workaround I found by essentially renaming a previous iTunes library.
Now, I open iTunes, and when I click on "software update," it is indicated that I can update to 10.6.1.  However, this takes me to the main Mac Software Update program, but unfortunately I'm told that there are no updates for my computer.  The "current version" I am using is iTunes 10.5.1.
Any advice on how I can actually upgrade to 10.6.1?

Are you able to update using a .dmg from the Apple website?

years without difficulty; I have lots of ram, hard drive and speed.
    Thanks for your input

One step listed in the link to "helpful" info, was (when Iooked 30 seconds ago), to search for and download the newest version of iTunes. I'm running iTunes on Win 7 machine and was prompted to update today, 10.22.2014, and did so without a problem. Having said that, however, it looks as though the latest iTunes (12.0.1.26) is finally doing what the last version refused to do, which is to actually fully populate all my playlists on my 6, but there is a hitch: 12.0.1.26 will NOT allow you to show the sidebar unless you click on "playlists," that is, you cannot keep it open all the time.
And, when plugging the 6 into the computer, the phone icon shows up but clicking on it does nada. What does work, for some strange reason, is clicking on the tiny icon (just under the "Store" menu link at top screen) which looks much like a tiny barrel, someone's idea of external drives, I suppose. The phone then comes up, with the list of stuff on the phone just under it where the sidebar used to be. Sync is now restricted to the lower right of the screen.
Apparently, you will also need to update your iPhone's software as well; some friends with the 4 and 4s, however, had troubles with them after upgrading. The message from Silicon Valley (I can see Apple from my backyard, ha ha) is apparently, "keep upgrading," folks, get rid of those old phones.
