Trouble upgrading my imac to snow leopard.
Currently I am on leopard 10.5.8. I inserted the install disk and it goes through the accept and disk selection, runs for about 20 minutes then it stops showing a picture of my mouse with what seems like instructions to turn off the mouse, which is already off. I finally turned it off after several hours and restarted while holding down the option key. I am able to select my hard disc and everything is fine, all the files are there, but still on the same version. 10.5.8
What is the Model Identifier of your computer, and how much Ram?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

Itunes 10 does not 'see' my iphone after upgrading my Imac to Snow leopard

I just upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard 10.6.3. When I plug my iphone (4) (USB), Itunes does not sync my phone, and it does not even appear as being connected to my iMac. I dont have any other issues.
I should add that I always have connected my Iphone through the USB on the keyboard, as I dont have enough USB slots in the back. This has worked just fine in the past. The keyboard is wired.Try plugging it into one of the USB ports on the Mac itself and see if that works.

Problem activating Facetime on iMac: I recently upgraded my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
Since the upgrade, when I try to sign on with my valid Apple ID & password I get this message "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."

When attempting to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mavericks, I receive the message "This disk is used for Time Machine Backups" when I try to select the lone available hard drive. I have ensured that Time Machine is turned off. Upon some Google research, some who reported this problem were told to delete the folder backup.backupdb, but I do not have this folder on my Mac. Any suggestions?
The folder would be at the root of your hard drive. Double-click Macintosh HD and look there.
If it isn’t there, I’m not sure what it is seeing. -
I have lost my copy of Snow Leopard and can't upgrade. All my backups were performed with that copy that I don't have anymore. The thing is that I had to reformat my iMac restoring to its factory settings and reinstalling Tiger all over again and then Leopard. I have already ordered another copy of Snow Leopard. My question is: By installing a different copy of Snow Leopard on my computer can I still recovering my backups from Time Machine that I had previously done with that other copy of Snow Leopard that I have lost? I hope I am making sense here and that someone could answer this.

Yes. Backups are tied to the computer, not the instaler DVD. Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine. -
I want to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Yosemite, but can't because I only have 1Gb Memory. Can I add more memory, then do the upgrade? What should I buy?

On the RAM issue, I fully agree with what Etresoft has written. I have just visited various sites, including OWC, Mactracker and iFixit and your Mac seems to have the Penryn processor. It will address 6GB of RAM which is more than enough for your use.
Where I differ from him, is Lion. The last big cat which I liked was probably Snow Leopard, and thereafter now Yosemite. There has been a lot of successes with your generation migrating to Yosemite, but with 6GB of RAM. Admittedly there were also problems for some, but I have observed even more successes even after initial problems. Mostly these problems were caused by adware or crapware installations. (Thank you Etresoft for a wonderful utility!)
Your iMac also has a SATA interface for a 3GB SSD, which is good enough. We have a Mac here with the same interface, still with a normal conventional stock HD running Yosemite, but only 4GB of RAM and it is running fine.
Of course the newer technology processors, faster RAM, PCI SSD, greater bandwidth on the newer Macs perform much better. But as I am on the older side, (ha ha), some of the 'vintage' Macs are still my favourites to use for certain tasks. Like using 9.09 for doing certain things and then converting the results afterwards for completion!
But, once again, it is your decision and only you can decide as you yourself knows your own circumstances better. Weigh up the options, considering what Etresoft has pointed out vs what Yosemite offers ito continuous support, security and features. There are a lot of your type of iMacs out there, and some of the users spoke about feeling like having a new Mac. There were others, who were wailing though. You could of course, also follow the advice of a test installation on an external and testdrive it, or wait for the release of 10.10.2 which I read somewhere is eminently close?

Upgrading to iMac and Snow Leopard
I am considering buying a new iMac, and am concerned about what applications I currently own and run on my G4. I am using OS 10.4.11, and am not sure what apps will translate with the updated Mac OS and Intel processor.
Here are the Apps: Adobe Illustrator CS, Adobe Photoshop CS, Corel Painter IX, Hexagon 2 (Carrara product), Toast 6 Titanium, Appleworks 6, and Dreamweaver MX.

You need to go to each vendor, ie., Adobe, Corel... and so to make sure the version you currently have will run on Snow Leopard.

Also, any peripherals you might be using now like printers/scanners/cameras... check the vendor site for those also for SL compatible drivers or software you may need.

One morning a week ago I got the "White Screen Of Death" and my desktop imac wouldn't load so mac support told me I had to erase my history and upload imac again. We went through every senario to get it to work to no avai. I had a snow leopard disc so I uploaded that as well. In the last few days I click on my mouse and I get the "Spinning Ball Of Death" most every time I click. It lasts for about 5 - 20 seconds every time. I am not a "techie" at all. Is there any way to stop this. I am not sure what could be causing this. I erased my browers cache on Safari and that didn't help. I also turned the comp. off then back on and that didn't work either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Step by step how to's? I am not totally ignorant in computer speak but not an expert by any means. Thanks!

What do you mean by "events to update"? Do you mean invites to new events or changes to existing invites?
Troubleshooting:
1. Your profile indicates you are running 10.6.7, 10.6.8 is the current version Apple > Software update.
2. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.

Trouble upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard
I have a 5 yr old MacBook Pro running Tiger, bought Snow Leopard ($29), was told I could upgrade but I'm not getting proper install screen (the one where you have to check off the "I agree" button, then install, etc). This is what happens... I pop in the install DVD, a window pops up where I have three options: 1) install Mac OS X, 2) Optional Installs, 3) Instructions. I double click on "Install Mac OS X", and get another screen with a big "X" that says "Click the button below to restart your computer and begin the installation process", with a "restart" button at the bottom. When I click "restart", I get an authentication pop up asking me to type in my password. When I do this, the computer restarts. As the computer restarts, just as it gets to the blue "apple" screen, it spits out the disk.
Tried restarting holding down the "C" key, nothing happened.
I've got lots of room and all the requirements, checked all that before I bought it.
Calling Apple was no help, they said it might be the disk (checked it with "first aid", it's fine) so they're sending me a new one but I doubt it'll make a difference. I was told it was against their policy to help me through the process as I should have bought Leopard, however if that was still an option I would have bought Leopard first, then Snow Leopard, but I can't get Leopard anymore... don't want to wipe the HD as I no longer have the Install disks that it originally came with.
Any help would be appreciated!! I'm no great techie so "dumb it down" for me...Disk - Disc... lol, knew I'd mess something up
I checked the disc by inserting it into the drive, then going to Utilities > Disk Utility and selecting the Installation DVD disc and then "first aid" to check if it was a bad disc, but it says it's ok. There were no scratches or anything on the shiny side of the disc and it was a sealed package bought right from the Mac online store.
When I go to Utilities > Disk Utilities and select my HD, I get options to "Verify Disk Permissions", "Repair Disk Permissions", and "Verify Disk", but "Repair Disk" button is not selectable... don't know if this means something?
My MBP has 1 GB RAM, and 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor so not the one with "issues" from what I see... I would not have bought SL if I didn't meet requirements.
It wasn't my intention to skip Leopard and go right to SL from Tiger... she was running fine up until a few months ago when I noticed I could only update iTunes and other applications up to a point and now I can't update anything anymore because I need 10.5 or higher. When I looked into buy Leopard, it was no longer available (nor was the "boxed set" others were recommending). So now it seems I'm SOL... unless I get it off ebay and I'm not 100% sure buying software from ebay is a great idea.
I've been scouring the forums and sites for answers as to why I'm not even given the appropriate Install prompt screen... no one seems to know the answer to that... At this point, I may just have to suck it up and bring it into a repair shop and pay 10x the price just to fix my baby... -

I have a fully functioning imac running snow leopard fine (recently upgraded to it) because of flash and java issues on browsers seemed I needed to get on to Lion or Mountain Lion so I upgraded the RAM to 2.5GB and now it will not let me upgrade maybe because my model seems to be a late 2006 and not a 2007 imac, cannot understand why it will not let me do this or provide a solution for me to upgrade what I need? If your machine meets the specs, the latest is Yosemite; make sure you check all the requirements as your machine falls right at the back end of being supported - meaning that it will not run at its maximum speed due to an older processor. You'd also need an absolute minimum opf 4 GB RAM - 8 would be much better.
