<Edited by Host>

you are correct, I have had my mac at geek squad to correct this problem and they could not find the fix other thanit was a hard drive problem and they replaced the hard drive and that did not fix the problem, they said it could be the speed of the HD I used as a replacement ,which was 7200,o the nw one is 5800 yet I still or they could not upgrade . they were used a jump drive and they tried to down load from itunes no luck. I started out wth the install disk and stepped up ,what could be wrong?

    Thanks for any advise.

A PowerPC Mac, if that's what it is, won't be able to see an Intel Mac's formatted data.  Also ExFat formatting is not supported by 10.6.3 or earlier.  I would try viewing the backup on another Intel Mac with at least 10.6.4.  If it isn't there, then the backup never really took place.  I much profer a hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • How to install Elements8 (on disc) on new Mac Book Pro with no disc drive?

How can I install Elements 8 (on disc) on my new Mac Book Pro with no disch drive?

Copy the contents of the Elements 8 in a pen drive(from a Mac that has the capability) and then copy the contents to your disk(on the new machine i.e. Mac book Pro) and run the installer. If this is not possible you can download the installer directly from here.
    Thanks

    Hi there saharalirezaie,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors

    Resolve communication issues
    Related errors: 17, 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194, 3000, 3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3015, 3194, or 3200. These alerts refer to gs.apple.com, say "There was a problem downloading the software," or say the "device isn't eligible for the requested build."
Check the hosts file or TCP/IP filtering, which might cause communication issues between iTunes, ports, and servers.

  • I have a Mac book pro with 2 users myself and my husband I loaded pics from our camera onto my user page does anyone know how to view these pics from my husbands login page can I transfer some of my library to his login page

I have a Mac book pro with iPhoto updated to iPhoto 11 we have 2 users on our Mac myself and my husband.  I recently loaded all of our pictures from a recent trip into iPhoto under my login screen.  Can these photos also be transferred into my husbands iPhoto library under his login screen ?  I want to transfer some not all of them and already deleted them from the camera card.

    Use iPhoto Sharing.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.

  • Will Photoshop CS6 work with Snow Leopard or must I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the Mac Book Pro?

I will be purchasing PhotoShop CS6 & installing on my Mac Book Pro. Adobe tells me that I should upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard in order for it to work best. Any thoughts on this? Thank you, Paul

You can use it on Snow Leopard without any problem. However, Apple updates graphic drivers and more things, so it could run better on Mountain Lion, but as I said, if you don't want to upgrade, keep on Snow Leopard because it will run properly.
Probably, Adobe is referring to the fact that Photoshop could be working in 32-bit because the kernel on Snow Leopard starts into 32-bit by default, and Mountain Lion is a 64-bit operating system. In this case, you will see an improvement

  • Wanting to upgrade Sawtooth 400 with new hard drive and more memory

Have been reading a lot of posts today on the above upgrades. Am quickly getting confused on all of the info, especially on the hard drive upgrades...
Purchased my Sawtooth back in Dec. 2006 on eBay. Should have been using it all of this time, but my budget wouldn't allow me to put more memory (it's got 256MB now) and a new hard drive in it. Tired of seeing it in the way just sitting there!
The G4 has OS X 10.3 on it. Would like to upgrade to Tiger. Is there a firmware update that needs to be done before upgrading to Tiger? I know that 256MB of memory really isn't enough for Tiger. I thought about getting at least a 512MB stick to make the total memory 768MB (wish I could afford to max the memory). Others have said that OWC and Crucial have good quality memory.
The System Profile shows that it has 10 GB and 60GB hard drives. Imagine the 10GB one is the original. The 60GB was probably added on later. Don't know how old the 60GB is. That's one reason I'd like to replace it to at least a 120GB drive, so I can start fresh without worrying about the 60GB dying. (Do understand that any drive can die; new or old...) Have read about the 128GB size limit on my G4. Don't think I'd use most of the 120GB, so I'd like to stay with that size. Budget won't allow to install a PCI card to allow larger drives anyway. Should I remove the 10GB one as I don't think I'd be using it at all?
I installed a Seagate 120GB Barracuda Ultra ATA/100, 7200RPM, 8MB Cache, 3.5" drive (new, got it on eBay for $40!) in my iMac G3 400. Would like to find the same kind of drive for the G4, if it would work. If the same drive would work in the G4, does anyone know where I could purchase one? Will look on eBay etc. in the meantime.
Thanks for any advice and/or suggestions.

Got the Seagate HD installed, PRAM battery replaced and missing PCI cover replaced. Sure wished that I had the extra memory to install now, but I haven't had the chance to order it yet. I know it's easy to do, but I'm going to have to move the Mac to the table and it's heavy for me to lift (bad back).
Anyway, I started to install OS 9 on the Seagate and have hit a stumbling block! Didn't have this problem when I replaced the HD in my iMac, but it was only a 120GB drive (it needed the firmware updated).
I've looked at other posts on installing OS 9 and even on Apple's support documents and can't find what I exactly need to do! Am getting more confused about it the more I try to find the right answers... Hope one of you can help me some more.
I was able to boot the Mac up from the CD (it's the white one with the orange "9" on it). I clicked on the "Mac OS Install" icon, click on "Continue" (on the "Install Mac OS 9) dialog box, and then it says: A valid destination volume can't be found. To continue the installation process, mount a valid volume for software installation." The destination disk options is grayed out. I then clicked on the "Utilities" icon, and then the "Drive Setup" icon. It shows a list of drives and I clicked on the <not initialized> Type ATA, Bus 2, ID 0, LUN 0 and clicked on the "Initialize" button. Then it says: New Partitioning: 1 Mac OS, Initialization Options: None. If you click on Custome Setup, it says that the Partioning Scheme is "Current Volume," 131072MB (131GB?), under Volume Info Type it says Mac OS Standard. The "OK" button is grayed out. If you click on "1 Partition" on "Partitioning Scheme," then the Volume Info Type says "Mac OS Extended, with Size showing 131071MB. The "OK" button is not grayed out. I didn't go any farther with the OS 9 installation, as I don't know what the heck I'm doing! Don't want to mess something up. Do you or anyone who has helped me with this posting, know the steps I should take next? The Seagate Owner's Manual says if you have a system that can't read the entire 160GB, to just partition the drive for 137GB for now if you don't want to add a PCI controller card etc. For now, all I want to do is use the 128 or 131GB (according to what it says) of the 160GB drive without using a different card or software to recognize all of the 160GB. Do I just do one partition or two... and what else? I'm completely lost...
Sorry for the long post, but had to write down the steps I took, so someone could tell me what to do next.
I don't think you have to worry about PRAM settings; they pretty much take care of themselves - and regenerate when they have to. The time to think about PRAM is when you introduce new hardware and catch your Mac expecting same old, same old, and it isn't.
It was kind of hard to get the old PRAM battery out of its holder. I pryed the right side retainer tab just a bit with a screwdriver to get it out. Noticed that one part of the retainer at the base was cracked! Hope I didn't do that! Put some super glue on the crack (was on the outside only from what I could see). Cleaned off the battery contacts with a pencil eraser and dry Q-tip before installing the new battery. It seems to stay in place even though with the side retainer cracked. If the side retainer would break off the next time the battery would need replacing, would the battery contacts hold it ok? Or would the whole logic board have to be replaced? I put a SAFT 3.6v LS14250 battery in it. The old one was a SAFT LS14250C. Hope the "C" at the end doesn't mean anything.

  • I have a 2008 Mac Book Pro with 2gb of memory and it wont let me install mountain lion or mavericks...why not?

I cannot get Lion to install on my 2008 Mac Book pro.  It has 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM of memory and has a  2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.  Is there still something that I am missing?

OS X 10.9.4 is the current release of the operating system. Older versions are not available from the app store. Does your system meet the requirements for OS X 10.9?

  • I get a disk error when trying to upgrade to mountain lion on my mac book pro that also runs bootcamp

I recently tried to upgrade my macbook pro OSX to mountain lion via the app store. When it tried to install it gives me a disk error. I have run disk utilities and repaired, verified etc. but it makes no difference. I am running bootcamp as well and have tried to modifiy the partition sizes in disk utilities, but it says for both that they cannot be modified. I can switch my startup disk and reboot in windows, no problem, so getting my files off isnt the issue. I have also tried to recover the hard disk using time machine which i was lucky enough to backup the day before it all went wrong. However, time machine runs fine until it asks me which disk to recover and it gives me an option of the time machine disk or bootcamp, but no option for my mac partition. So, I have tried everything that makes snese, but getting errors with disks lock, cant repartition, disk error needs repair (which i know is not true, its only because of the Mountain Lion OSX that its messed up). Any ideas?

You have some other problem with your boot drive that has corrupted data backed up to the TimeMacine drive.
My advice is to boot into each operating system and manually backup just your Users files each to separate regular external drives (no Timemachine or backup software) and disconnect.
Make a note of any serial numbers, emails, address book contacts, export bookmarks etc. that isn't typically in your users folders data.
You might be able to Winclone 3 the Windows as a whole thing as it's appearing not to have issues but it's your MacintoshHD partition that is so that will have to be rebuilt from scratch.
    Most commonly used backup methods
If your OS X parititon doesn't boot, you can use this to recover files.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Without any further detail about your machine I can't advise specifically what to do, but it involves using Disk Utility to Zero Erase (move slider one spot to the right or in 10.6 using Security Option) the ENTIRE boot drive and reformatting, then installing OSX fresh and then setting up BootCamp again.
If you wish to switch your boot drive for something better, this is a good time to do this.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If your machine is capable of Internet Recovery, then use that, then upgrade.
If your machine came with 10.6 or earlier, then use the 10.6 install disks and work up from there.
Erase, formatting, OS X installs on Mac's

  • How to reinstall Mac OS X with dead hard drive and no DVD drive?

    Hey,
I need to reinstall Mac OS X 10.6 on my Mac Mini as my hard drive doesn't appear to be booting. However, I cannot reinstall it through the OS install DVD as the DVD drive is not working either. I don't have any other Macs on hand to help create a boot disk or something so does anyone else have any solutions?
    Thanks,

Your going to need a external blank (preferably Firewire 800) drive if your not capable of replacing your Mini's internal drive.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
Your going to need a external DVD drive, or use a friends Mac with one and follow these instructions to place 10.6 on a bootable USB thumb drive to install on the external or new internal drive.
    http://www.maciverse.com/install-os-x-snow-leopard-from-usb-flash-drive.html
To boot from the external drive, hold the option key down on a wired keyboard and select it to boot from, set it as the Startup disk in System Preferences.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro with the Sub Keyboard and the sub keyboard has kicked in

The numbers under the letters are active and I can not type using  these key letters which makes a wireless keyboard the only way to have this in a normal way. .
The keyboard works right on the Mac side but the problem exists with the Windows bootcamp. How can I turn off the sub keyboard part and have a normal keyboard?

    ajfcrf,
I’m afraid that I don’t understand what you’re asking. What is a “sub keyboard”, and which numbers under which letters do you mean?

  • Can i buy mac book pro with english keyboard from dubai?

i will visit dubai and i am planning to buy a mac book pro from there. İ wonder if i can buy this mac book pro with an English keyboard and all the manuals in English. Any help on this please?

Actually, you can - but it is special order only - they consider it as a customized unit....You might have to wait a week or two.....
You can check the Apple Store at the Mall of the Emirates and see if they have it in stock....
Or, you can go to Apple's website select UAE as the country and configure it with the US keyboard and wait for delivery...
    Good luck..

  • Do I have to uninstall itunes on my old PC before importing/populating my Mac Book Pro with My iPad stuff?

    Good Day,
My apologies for the cumbersome subject line/question. In a nut shell, I currently, have my itunes account on my spouses PC and on my iPad(3). I love the Mac stuff so much that recently, I purchased a Mac Book Pro so I could work from two Mac products. I want to take all the apps that I purchased, music, photos etcetera that is on my ipad and put it on to my Mac Book, but it is my understanding that I can only have my music and purchased apps or itunes account on two procducts that includes a PC. So my first question is do I have to, uninstall the itunes on my spouses PC before I can synch my iPad to the Mac, keeping in mind that the itunes account is in my name.
Second, do you have any tips (best practices, pitfalls to look out for) for the best way to populate my Mac Book Pro with my iPad Apps and Music, I would like the apps and music to be on both the mac book and the iPad. I realize the most obvious answer to my second question is synching the iPad with my Mac but before I do that I would be greatful for any insight and expertise in this area.
Thanks so much for you time.
    L.

No you do not have to uninstall iTunes on the PC in order to unsync with the Mac. And where you got that information about having iTunes content on two products only is beyond me. You can associate your Apple ID and iTunes content with up to 10 devices but no more than 5 devices can be computers.
If you could copy the iTunes library to your new Mac, that would be the ideal thing to do in order to transfer the iTunes library over. That would make the process pretty easy. You can also download most purchased content again as long as you use the same Apple ID and you could move content into your iTunes library that way.
You will need to authorize the new Mac for your iTunes content. Launch iTunes on the Mac and got to Store>authorize this computer.
There are many articles that will guide you through copying the iTunes library to the Mac and you can look through a bunch of them here.
    https://www.google.com/search?q=copy%20itunes%20library%20to%20new%20mac
If you need to download past purchase ....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
And this is a very informative user tip that will tell you how to move all of your iPad contents into the Mac if you cannot copy and transfer the iTunes library.
