Trouble upgrading to Photoshop Elements 4.0

Hi there,
I received the upgrade to Elements 4.0 for Christmas (downloaded and saved to CD). My computer refuses to read the lone file on the CD--or rather, it takes at least 5 minutes to read it, and then gives me an error message. My computer is such a mess anyway that I have decided to F-disk it and start all over. I have over 7000 photos in my catalog at PSA SE 3.0, with lots of tags, captions, collections, and notes listed in the properties, all of which I would like to save because it would be next to impossible to do all over again.
Now here's the next flavor of ice cream in my sundae of technologically-induced suffering: I have been experimenting with Picasa2 as well, and I accidentally renamed and reorganized a whole bunch of my photos and folders using Picasa so that they had to be reconnected once I got back into PSA SE. The folders my pictures are stored in are now an ungodly mess and I still have hundreds of pictures to reconnect. I don't want to plug these folders into my upgrade just the way they are--I would much rather reorganize them first. All of these files are backed up, but many of them are backed up under the old names. I could back up all 7000 photos again, but the folders would still be a disorganized mess. Is there any way to rename and reorganize the folders without having to reconnect all of them in PSA SE? Am I going to have to back everything up again regardless? I'm also concerned about losing my captions, tags, notes, etc. when I reorganize or after backing everything up and F-disking. If I save the MyCatalog.PSA file, how will I be able to reconnect its contents with the correct photos later on?
I somehow think this would all be much easier if my upgrade CD would work, but either way I'm planning to F-disk to get rid of the partitions in my computer. Any advice?
Thanks!
Kristie

Sorry, that wasn't very clear. I have had the full, original version of PSE (1.0?) for ages (on CD), but never installed it on my laptop. But since I already had that, my father thought it was logical to purchase the upgrade rather than the full version. He purchased the download and put it on CD for me, and it's this CD that isn't working. Would it help if I installed my original version of PSE and then tried the upgrade? Any chance that would cause more problems? Is it better to wait until after I F-disk?
Thanks for your advice! I'm really not very computer savvy, so I apologize if I just sound like an idiot.

Having installed an upgrade for Photoshop Elements 13, I cannot open the application. I get an error message saying "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X".
I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but get the same error message.

Which version of OS X do you have? It's not clear from your post whether "installed an upgrade" means you just installed PSE 13 as an upgrade or you installed an update to PSE 13, like ACR 9 or 13.1. Please clarify.

  • Following the recent upgrade to Photoshop Elements 13 the shadows/highlights sliders no longer operate. How do I resolve this issue?

Having installed the recent upgrade to Photoshop Elements 13 the shadows/highlights sliders no longer work. How do I resolve this problem?

Sometimes when problems pop up for no apparent reason it could be that the preferences files had become corrupted. Here are two ways to reset the preferences.
    1. The reset process might be built into your PSE version, as shown in this video:
How to Reset Photoshop Elements Preferences - YouTube
    2. If your version does not have the reset option,  press and hold Alt-Ctrl-Shift (Option-Command-Shift on Mac) immediately while starting PSE. The timing is critical; you may have to try this several times. A dialog box will pop asking if you want to delete the settings file?  Click  YES.
Let us know if either of these works for you.

    Hi Johnson,
the maximum request size is 10000 characters. To translate larger documents you'll need to break them into smaller chunks. When using the HTML mode, make sure you send a complete element, for instance the whole <p> element up to and including the </p>.
Also make sure not to break requests in the middle of a sentence. Translator needs whole sentences to translate. You can use the BreakSentences method to find sentence boundaries. Breaksentences is also subject to the 10000 character request size limit.
Let us know if this helps,

  • Upgrade from Photoshop Elements 8 to 11 ?

Can I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 8 to 11 on my iMac 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.6.8 ?
(And while I'm about it, should I upgrade my OS - if it's possible on this iMac ?)

Based off the system requirements listed at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/tech-specs.html it would appear you can upgrade successfully.   You should be able to upgrade to at least Mac OS 10.7 as well.  You may also be able to upgrade to 10.8 as well but you will want to verify if your particular iMac supports 10.8 or not.  Not all Intel Core 2 Duo Macs were able to upgrade.

How can I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 12 to Photoshop Elements 13  AND Photoshop Premiere Elements 13? What would be the price?

    Hi Raymond,
I would advise you to buy the bundle package of Premiere and Photoshop Elements 13 which cost 149 $ but due to online promotions the price right now is 119 $.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums.

How do I upgrade from Photoshop Elements 11 to PSE 12 (student edition)

I believe you just need to purchase the upgrade.  I don't think there is any additional discount with upgrade pricing, meaning you don't also get a student version discount with an already discounted upgrade purchase.  As far as versions go, there is no difference between a regular and a student version... the difference is in the licensing.

  • Upgraded from Photoshop elements 7 to photoshop elements 12.

I recently upgraded from photoshop elements 7 to photoshop elements 12. I tried to restore the backup from elements 7 to the new version, using the restore catalogue option. It found all the photos, but the album info was not restored. Could you advise what I did wrong or an alternive solution?

    Hi,
Are there no albums in the left panel of Elements Organizer 12? Please try expanding "Local Albums" panel on the left.
    Thanks

  • I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog, or is Elements 5 too old to read?

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog including all of the tags, captions, etc, or is Elements 5 too old for Lightroom 5 to read/convert?  What's the best way to migrate?  (My catalog has over 100k images in it.)

Adobe changed the catalog software from PSE6 onwards to the SQLite database – as used in Lightroom.
Earlier versions of PSE including PSE5 used a Microsoft Access database, stored in a file called [Catalog Name].psa.
If you have already embedded keywords and captions by writing file info into the images they should be readable even if catalog conversion fails. Lightroom does have the ability to import a PSE catalog but in view of the age of PSE5 I would recommend downloading the 30 day free trial of LR5.6 and then you can judge the level of success of catalog conversion.

  • What to do to upgrade to photoshop elements 10?

What to do to upgrade to photoshop elements 10? Actually I have photoshop elements 8. Offer from the United Kingdom to do so doesn´t apply to Panama, or USA.

Best bet is to look for the full version either online from someplace like amazon or at a local big box store. It's almost always much cheaper than the upgrade version.
