Trouble uploading photos with card reader
I am having trouble with uploading. The card reader works fine on my husband's PC but not on my MacBook. It will upload 7-8 photos and say the card reader was ejected wrong. The card reader is still in the USB port at the time of the error message and hasn't been removed and all the photos haven't been uploaded. Are there certain card readers for MAC?
I just received the following helpful URL link from SanDisk tech support.
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/60
SanDisk responded within 5 hours of my inquiry. After removing all USB devices from my iMac and reinserting the card reader alone, the reader started working again. I ejected it numerous times from USB ports on the iMac as well as from a USB hub. After plugging my other USB devices back in, I have not detected if there was a device which was causing the conflict. As a precaution I have removed USB devices that are only used periodically such as a Colorvision Spyder2Express device used every 30 days or so to color correct my monitor.
Hope this helps others with Mac card reader issues.

Trouble downloading photos from card reader-OS9.1 G4 Cube
Trying to download photos shot with Casio EXP600 onto Toshiba SD 512MB Card, inserted into Thunderbolt SD/MS card reader plugged into USB port on computer. Camera "Photo Loader" software downloaded OK onto computer. Get error message when try to download either .jpg or .tif files: AN ERROR OCCURRED IN THE PREVIEW FILE CREATION PROCESS. THE FILE WAS NOT CREATED. I can open a file on the card and see the photo on the screen OK, but not download it. If try to drag a photo from card to Photoshop Elements 2, get a .tif file with horizontal white lines every 1/4 inch or so; with .jpg files, get horizontal [possibly overlap] bands. [Also have trouble with .jpg files created with Microtek i700 scanner: get error message if try to open on desktop, though those open OK in Photoshop. Don't know if this is a related problem]. Thanks for any help. Jim Gerstley
Question is: am I missing some critical software or need to update something in order for these photos to download to the computer? The picture files meet the DCF protocol and are supposed to be compatible with MAC OS 9, 10.1, and 10.2 though not 10.0. I do have quicktime player 4.1.2.Hi, James. Try this simple experiment.
1. Create a new folder on your desktop, then connect your card reader. Double-click one of the photos on the camera card to confirm that it opens properly, as you've said they normally do. Drag-copy the same photo from your camera card into the folder on the desktop. Now double-click the copy. Does it behave exactly the same way as the original, or not?
2. Now drag-copy a different photo — one that you've never opened on your computer — from the camera card into the folder on the desktop. Double-click the copy to open it. Does it behave exactly the same way as the photo that you had previously opened from the camera card, and then copied into folder on the desktop?
It may be necessary, for the results of this experiment to be most informative, to reformat your card in your camera and shoot some new photos before conducting the experiment. Reformatting will erase the photos currently on the card. But since they seem to be corrupt anyway, you've already lost them. Copy them all to your computer first anyway, in case any of them are not yet corrupt.
If the results differ between Step 1 and Step 2, then I suspect that what has queered things for you is the act of opening your photos while they still reside on the camera card, before copying them to the computer. The application they're opening in has made some obscure change in the files that isn't being saved properly on the card, and is corrupting them; consequently, they're corrupt when you then copy them onto the hard drive.
It's a good rule of thumb not to do anything at all with photos while they reside on the camera card: always copy them onto your hard drive before opening, editing, emailing, deleting, or doing anything else to or with them. It's an equally good rule not to do anything to the card itself while it's connected to your computer: to format it, erase it, or delete individual photos from it, always use your camera's controls, while the card is in the camera and disconnected from the computer.
By the way, a folder on your desktop is just another folder in a particular location on your hard drive — there's no functional difference between a folder in the hard drive window and a folder on the desktop, except that the latter is more conveniently accessible. The desktop itself is actually a folder on the hard drive, albeit an invisible one with a special display mode managed by the OS. -
I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 which accordingly has Flash Player already installed.
I later went to upload pictures on Facebook only for a pop up message to say that I do not have the latest version installed. I therefore, went on to do the necessary checks via Adobe website which confirmed that I do in fact have the latest version. I continued to to the recommended troubleshooting with the ActiveX Filtering and then closed the browser.
I tried to upload again & I still cannot upload via Flash Player.
PLEASE HELP????Go over EVERYTHING here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html once more just to be sure. If that doesn't do it, you may want to look into repairing IE: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

when I upload photos with the ipad2 card reader it uploads three the photos three times into three albums: "last Imported", all imported" and the "file name". What if i only want the album once? rwb
There is only one copy of each imported photo. The photos are not duplicated.
For those who import photos regularly, the last import may be important to them instead of all imported photos being available in All Imported.
All imported photos are stored in All Imported. The photos in Last Imported include a pointer to the original photos stored in All Imported. The photos are not duplicated, just as placing a song in an iTunes playlist does not duplicate the song. -
HT1386 I AM HAVING TROUBLE UPLOADING PHOTOS FROM PC TO IPAD.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE UPLOADING PHOTOS FROM PC TO IPAD. I GET SOME PHOTOS UPLOADED AND THEN TRY TO ADD MORE.. AND ALL THE PREVIOUS ONES DISAPPEAR! THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. CANT I ADD NEW PHOTOS ONCE I UPLOAD ANY!
If you REALLY want to use the stock Photos (I wouldn't as it has major problems as is also explained both at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/all-one-photo-viewer-roundup-70-price-drop-bes t-image-viewer and in the https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3812013?start=345&tstart=0 thread here - look directly at the first two messages), you need to ceate subfolders in parallel to the original ones. Then, the previously synched pics won't disappear.
But, again, I do NOT recommend using the built-in Photos. Using third-party apps like Photo Manager Pro is the way to go until Apple fix the issues with Photos. -
I am having trouble syncing photos with lightroom mobile. Lightroom (on computer) tells me that it's syncing but nothing appears on my I pad. Any comments?
however when I try to sync my older ipod with it and upload some new music to it, Itunes keeps telling me that all the previous songs will be erased
Yes, that's correct. If you don't have the songs that are currently on your iPod also in your new iTunes installation, they will be erased from the iPod if you sync it. Best to start afresh by first transferring all the music on your iPod back to your new computer/iTunes library.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
Once all the music is safely back in your new iTunes library, you can sync your iPod as normal. -
Why am I having trouble uploading photos from iPhoto on mac after update
Why am I having trouble uploading photos from iPhoto on mac after update
Good day!
What does this have to do with Photoshop?
Wouldn’t the question better be asked on a Macintosh Forum?

Aperture 3.2.1 not importing all photos from card reader
Aperture is not importing all photos from the card reader, i tried importing 720 photos and it was only seeing 480 photos, the card reader stopped reading, aperture was saying "loading assets", still, like if it was still reading the card. and the first time it loaded the pictures the import button was not availllable once not all the photos were not all loaded when the loading assets message stopped.
i had to force quit aperture, ejecting the card from the reader, aperture, on relaunch was still seeing the card as present but it was ejected from the finder , and physicaly on the desk.
i had to go in Apple Acticity monitor to find a process that was still active , someting called mass media and had to stop it.
my work around was manually copying the content of the card on the external hard drive about 9 gig of photos on the external HDD where i keep my aperture photos. copying 9 gig of photos over usb2 took an 50 minutes.
i had jpegs raw and some videos in 720p
i have a MBP 2.26 ghz 13"
a Canon 7D and a Lexar 16 gig compact flash card.Macuser72 wrote:

I'm sorry, but I can't understand this paragraph. It seems like the "loading assets" message stopped but not all the photos were showing up in the import window. Were any of the photos duplicates? How long did you wait until you forced quit?
When you say "the first time it loadedthe pictures" you mean you attempted before and got the same result?
It does seem like it is either getting stuck on an image or is taking a long time to read the images off the card since the import button is not available...
When you copied the files to your external drive, you were then able to import to Aperture?

Havinf trouble with card reader
I have an HP Pavilion slimline. About 6 mo ago my built in card reader stopped working. It just says need to format card and the it says it's unable to format. It was working fine then one day nothing. I have to download photos now with the camera and usb port or use the laptop then email them to myself. Any ideas?
grdgreer,
It is important to know the computer model and OS version, inc 32 or 64bit. Also helpful is knowing the exact card (SD, SDHC) and GB size. SanDisk cards are formatted FAT32, not NTSC. SanDisk states to never format a card with the computer, always format using the camera.
Can you confirm:
1) Did this same card work previously in this slimline.
2) That you never formatted it using the computer.
I am a volunteer. I am not an HP employee.

Hi,
I have only just moved to a mac a month or so ago and am having some trouble.
The computer does not like me uploading photos on either one of my cameras.. sometimes it works (rarely) but most time it freezes.
On image capture it comes up with 'waiting for device' and will stay like that. On iphoto it searches for them but never finds it, I end up having to force quit it. if i open it in finder they don't appear.
Like i said sometimes it works but only once in a blue moon. It seems like lately it doesn't work at all. and more often then not i have to turn the computer off by pressing and holding the button cos everthing has frozen up. If anyone can help me that would be great!!
thanks
JessHi Jess,
We need more details please. What kind of camera? How are you connecting the camera to the Mac? USB? A reader?
Try repairing disk permissions: Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
Also, if you complete your profile it would help. I assume you are using an Intel based iMac, but which OS? 10.4.x 10.5.x ?? To view this information, click the Apple logo top left in your Desktop, then click; About This Mac. The information is displayed there.
Also, make sure you have sufficient disk space to upload images to. Right or control click your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black arrow next to: General so it faces down. You will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% free disk space.
Tuning Mac OS X Performance

Run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) once a week and Repair Disk Permissions:
Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
*Tip... very important: Run Disk Utility BEFORE and AFTER all software updates. That will save you headaches

Camera connective kit does not work with card reader
Can I only use my USB camer connective kit with my camera and not a card reader?
Which card reader? Are you using an SD card in it or some other form factor?
As long as you're targeting an SD card with photos or movies, it should work same as connecting to a camera....but in that case, there is really no need since the camera kit includes an SD reader. -
Problem importing photos from card reader
I have been successfully importing photos from my camera's memory card using a card reader. I was half way through a similar import, when a pop up came up on screen to say I was running out of disc space. So I deleted some other files to make room and the import appeared to complete. I then organised these photos into albums, when iPhoto unexpectedly quit. When I opened it again the albums still recognise that there are photos there but you can not view or edit them. Any help appreciated.
I did do a test and yes if you have a folder on your SD card, you will get an "Import" link. If not, no importing ability. I was not able to import a .m4v movie however. I was able to import a .MOV that was taken by an iPhone but not a .mov from another application.
I'd say the hack to import into an iPad using the Apple SD Card Reader is make sure the media files are in a folder named DCIM on an SD card (as you mentioned) with the 8 character naming convention. -
Importing into Lightroom with card reader doesn't show previews
I am using Lightroom 2.4 with Adobe 5.4 Raw on a Windows XP based laptop -- however the problem I am having also presents on my desktop which also uses Lightroom 2.4 with Adobe 5.4 and Windows XP. In fact the issue is completely the same on both computers: When I try to import photos directly into Lightroom using a card reader, the interface opens, but does not show the previews -- and yes, the show preview box is checked. The preview boxes are there, but they are completely greyed out. If I use the same card reader but direct it to open into Photoshop Elements it shows the previews and it also shows them in Bridge for CS4. So clearly the problem doesn't lie with the computer or card or cardreader. It seems only in Lightroom that the previews do not show up. Adobe raw supports my camera which is set to shoot raw and it also makes a JPG copy, but neither show up.
I spent more than an hour with a tech trying to get this to work and didn't solve the problem. I'm hoping that someone has some bright ideas that will help me out.
Phyllis PerkinsI tried to respond before, but I think the message didn't go through. Sorry. Because my Lightroom hasn't been working the way it is supposed to, I have been doing what you suggest -- saving the photos from my card reader to a file through Bridge -- which does open the previews -- and then importing them to Lightroom. But it means one extra step and Lightroom's strength is supposed to be work flow, so I would like to get it to work properly. I think that if the card reader were faulty -- and the problem occurs with several different card readers -- that it wouldn't show the previews in Bridge or even Photoshop Elements, which it does. So I think there is some problem with Lightroom, not the card reader. Any other suggestions? I'd be happy to know about them. Meanwhile, thanks for your reply.
