Trouble Using Apple's Video Adapter

I am having trouble getting my eMac to work with the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter. There are no directions telling you how to use it or to even get it to work. I want to use it to import videos from my Sony Hi8 camcorder and was told by Apple's Live help that this is what I needed to import video and make DVDs. How do I get this adapter to work?

Welcome aboard.
I think the adapter you have is for video output, not input. To input video to the eMac you need a firewire connection. Sony cameras typically have a 4 wire connector which is smaller than the 6 wire plug on the mac, so you need a cable that has a 4 wire connector on one end and a 6 wire connector on the other. Cameras often (but not always) come with such a cable. You also need a digital camcorder- not just Hi8., although Sony does make cameras that will do both. If you camera does not have digital output, you need a convertor box.

  • MacMini, Apple S-Video adapter & 16:9 or 15:9

I just got a new Mac mini (2GHz Core 2 Duo). I use a Apple S-Video adapter to connect a standard-resolution widescreen Sony TV (KLV-30HR3), not having HDMI or DVI capability.
The resolution only offered in the Monitors Control Panel in Leopard 10.5.3 are only 4:3 ratio resolutions (such as 800x600, 1024x768). I tried using DisplayConfigX and SwitchResX to create new display resolutions, but any of the 1280x768 as the TV should accept just result in a black TV screen
Is the Mac Mini able to produce 16:9 or 15:9 ratios over S-video?
Thanks in advance for any clue

Interestingly, there are now two 1920×1080 options, which are labeled identically. Choose the other one! You’ll now be driving full 1080P..."

  • Anyone able to play Amazon Instant Video using Apple Digital AV Adapter

Amazon just released the Amazon Instant Video app for the iPad July 31, 2012. Version is 1.0
It's not a great app yet. I can get it to play on the iPad (by itself). When I hook up the iPad to the TV using the Digital AV Adapter, the app gets very unstable, crashes at times, doesn't load shows....basically doesn't work. Virtually everything else on the iPad displays fine on the TV using the adapter. I've tried Safari, Netflix, and a couple of games just to see if the problem was with the iPad or the app. The problem is with the app.
I emailed Amazon support via feedback within the app, and got responses back similar to this:
"I'm so sorry for the trouble you facing with the Instant videos which you want to play on TV.
I understand now a days all the TV's are HDMI connected but I assure you that we are working for the improvements required on this field.
The Amazon Instant Video app for iPad does not support playback on HDMI-connected TVs.
Customer feedback like yours helps us continue to improve the service we provide. I've forwarded your feedback to our Amazon Instant Video team for consideration as we make future improvements."
I find it hard to believe they designed it to not work that way-I replied and asked them if it was...have not heard back yet.
Has anyone been able to view Amazon Instant Video on their TV from an iPad ? If yes, how did you do it.?

<"The makers of the app tell you it does not work that way, you think they are lying to you?">
Where did you read that the app doesn't support this?  Their app description says it does not support AirPlay. I'm not using AirPlay. It doesn't mention anywhere that it doesn't support iPads connected to TVs with HDMI, except in a support email response back to me.
With the iPad hard wired to the TV with the Apple Digital AV Adapter and an HDMI cable, on all of the other apps I've tried, the TV mirrors the iPad display. Even the few free games I tried would do this. This app falls apart when you hook up the HDMI to the iPad. To me that's a bug. I find it hard to believe that they designed it to not put out compatible digital video from the iPad. I would rather have seen their email response say that this is a known bug and that they are working on a fix. Maybe they are just beginning to understand the issues with version 1 and told the poor people answering the support emails to just say that it's not supported.
I'm not particularly upset with them, as it is v1.0 of a free app. It's got plenty of other shortcomings. I was hoping that it would work somthat we could take advantage of the Amazon Prime stuff we're paying for without having to go out and buy another set top box or Blu-ray player that was compatible with their stuff.
I would have gladly paid some money for a well designed app. Wish they had gone that route.

  • Using Apple Dvi-Composite adapter for playing S-video/Composite video on...

I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the DVI-Composite/S-Video adapter and instead of attaching it to a laptop, attached the DVI part to a monitor and then used composite/s-video out from a DVD/VCR player and hooked it up to the monitor direct? I have a 24" monitor that I was hoping to attach a DVD/VCR to and turn it into a tv.

  • Black & white screen using DVI-to-Video adapter

I've got a strange problem. I'm connecting my MacBook Pro to a Sony TV using Apple's DVI to Video adapter and a composite video cable.
As soon as I make the connection, I see the Mac's screen appearing on my TV, but it is in black & white! And it flickers a little every few seconds. The only way to get to a colour screen seems to be to re-boot the MacBook. It's quite annoying.
Previously, I've always had a colour picture come up immediately. The problem started to crop up right around the time I installed Snow Leopard, in fact, although I'm not sure whether it's a coincidence or not. And I don't think it's related to my TV. Any thoughts?

same problem here... first time i plug it in after a reboot it's in color. when you disconnect it and try again later it'll be in black and white and there's nothing you can do to fix the problem. only choice you have is to reboot your computer. as you can imagine, having to reboot the computer every time you want to use the adapter is REALLY annoying

  • Choppy Video Out when using DVI to Video Adapter

Hi, I just bought the "Apple DVI to Video Adapter", plugged an s-video cable between the adapter and my tv, and then connected the adapter to my computer. The TV immediately recognized the computer, the resolution of my computer display immediately changed to a lower one, I launched DVD player and put a disc in. I was really happy with my new Adapter!
But then, I noticed that the video in the TV was choppy, not all the time, but sometimes throughout the movie... The funny thing is that the video in the computer display is not choppy, just in the TV... I quit all applications in my mac, but that didn't help....
Any help would be really appreciated!
I have one of the newer 15" MacBook Pro's, with 4GB of RAM, and 2.5 GHZ processor.
Thank you very much for your time,
    Daniel Vogel

Concerning your question, "if only i knew the the correct entries for a custom displayconfig x timing," I think I can answer that one for you.
It sounds like you have other Macs at your disposal that are correctly driving the TV you are trying to drive with the Intel mini. In that case, install DisplayConfigX on one of those computers and while it is running the TV at the desired resolution, click on the "Card" tab in DCX and then click on the "+" symbol at the bottom right corner. This will open a window in DCX titled "Resolution details" and you will see all the detailed information of the timing you need to enter into DCX on the Intel mini.

  • How to get 16:9 resolutions when using DVI to Video Adapter?

I just plugged my new Intel Mac Mini into a 16:9 widescreen TV with the Apple DVI to Video Adaptor (PAL Video version).
    It only offers me:
    640x480
    720x480
    720x576
    800x600
    1024x768
    (all interlaced)
I do get a choice of 50hz (PAL) or 60hz (NTSC).
However, I don't get the widescreen options I've seen in some Apple screenshots.
I'm plugging it into a PAL TV via an s-video cable.
I intend later to plug it into a larger 42" plasma with same cable, but wanted to test it on this TV first.
    More info:
I noticed, when I bought the "DVI to Video Adapter" that there were NTSC and PAL version. Both seem to do PAL though.
Any help on this most appreciated.

  • HEEEEEELP - trouble using Apple ID

Some time ago i changed my e-mail adress and therefore i had to change my Apple ID to the new e-mail. So far so good.
I now have trouble using my Apple ID on my iPhone. It automatically logs on the old Apple ID, but there is no code for that Apple ID anymore. When i use the password i used with my old Apple ID, it will not accept (i have not changed it - only the "username")
When i go into my Apple ID account, the old e-mail adress is deleted (only the new e-mail adress is in my account), so how can it be, that the old Apple ID is the one my phone wants to use?
I have tried changing my password on the old account, by pressing "fotgot password", but the mail to reset my Apple ID is sent to my new e-mail and therefore it is the password to my new Apple ID i'm changing.
I hoped it only was a problem because the old phone had already been logged in with the old Apple ID, but i have just recieved my new iPhone 5s and now i can't get all my previous purchases and stuff to the new phone, because it also wants to use the old Apple ID, and i still have no password.
It is also causing my iCloud to not work proberly.
What to do? Hope someone can help me.

I just skipped the part of the setup with my old e-mail, and did the setups manually when my new phone was done setting up. Now I can use my Apple ID and iTunes and iCould account for the first time in months.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Bios option for only using the discreet video adapter ? (G770)

Hey, is there an update for G770 for using only the discreet video adapter ? I'm using linux and the latest fglrx driver still can't properly start the X system.

no new bios update for your system but you should be able to change the settings in bios.

  • Trouble using apple configurator

I have been trying to setup 20 iPads using Apple configurator for the last couple of days. I purchased all of my codes for each of the apps I want to install on the iPads. I have everything setup, but for some reason whenever I try to put the apps on the iPads using the codes through Apple configurator, I get an error saying that the code could not be redeemed and that I need to put my Apple ID and password in. I have authorized the computer with itunes and have done everything that I can think of, but I continue to get the same error. I am clearly missing something and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Restarting Apple Configurator and/or redownloading and reimporting the VPP codes will often cure this issue.
You should receive a pop up prompt, within Apple Configurator, asking you to sign in with your Apple ID* when trying to deploy apps that are using VPP codes to any iPads. Sometimes this prompt doesn't appear but disconnecting all the iPads and restarting Apple Configurator normally cures it.
*This should be the Apple ID you used to download the app within iTunes before you imported the app into Apple Configurator - not the VPP account used to purchase the VPP codes.

  • Trouble using apple tv in a new location

I use Apple TV every day at home via WiFi to watch Netflix, Hulu, etc on our television. We are in a different location for a month and I'm depending on it for our entertainment. I've logged it in to the WiFi where we are staying along with my MBA. The complete menu is now available but nothing connects. Signal strength is shown as strong.
    What have I overlooked?

It looks like you have guest access in a hotel or place like that. Check this post and it might help you:

  • Anyone tried using the Apple HDMI video adapter with an iPad 2?

Mine doesn't recognise it. This is the second adaptor Apple has provided me with and I had a Genius check out the iPad for me. She recommended a complete reset. This hasn't fixed it. Anyone managed to get HDMI out of their iPad 2?

  • No sound output to TV using Apple dock - video is fine

I'm baffled. I have a new 80GB iPod Classic, a brand new Apple dock, and Apple A/V Component cable. When I watch a video or photo slideshow, everything works great. However, when I want to listen to my iPod's music through my TV's speakers, using the same setup, there is NO sound output to the TV at all. Why would the audio play when watching photos or video, but no sound when all I want is music? Please help!

I haven't personally had this problem, but I believe in order to hear music through your TV speakers, you have to use the headphone port instead of the AV cable.

  • Do I have to use Apple brand power adapter?

I seem to have misplaced the power cord/adapter for my MacBook. Do I have to buy an Apple brand cord, or does someone else make the same thing for half the price?
    Thanks.

There's no current substitute for the MagSafe connector. I've heard of some aftermarket adapters for use in cars, but apparently they get around the connector issue by using authentic salvaged connectors from used or damaged MagSafe adapters.

  • Using Apple Digital AV Adapter and sound output for iPad 1

    Hi all!
I'm trying to hook up my iPad 1 and iPhone 4 to a projector through HDMI that has very weak speakers. My solution is to hook up the video through HDMI and use my headphone jack or use my device speakers for sound. At first I thought it'd be okay because people on this forum say the headphone jack will still work, but no one that posted these question have an iPad 1, they all had the 2nd gen. Does anyone know if it also works with iPad1 and iPhone 4? i know mirroring won't work on my devices, i'm just looking to use AirVideo and Plex to run my videos.
    Thanks in advance!

What apps are you try to dsicplay via TV out? On the iPod TV out only dispays with apps that support TV out. The Video app is one of them.
