Trouble using facetime on another device with same apple id

Hi
I am having trouble using facetime with my wife.  I have an iPad 2 and she has an IPhone 4S.  When we try to facetime, we are able to connect for a few seconds and then it drops off.  We are then unable to reconnect.  We both have the same apple Id and e-mail address although I am trying to contact her via her mobile number.  Any suggestions would be grateful received.

Get an email address (free gmail.com) to use on the iPad.

  • Facetime on multiple devices with same Apple ID?

Hi...we have an iPad 1, iPhone 4S, iPod touch from 2010 and new iPod Touch yesterday.
I have not set up the new iPod Touch yet...but all the other devices are using the same Apple ID so I can buy apps and allow all my devices to get the apps installed for free.  Great.
How can I set up my new iPod Touch to use the same Apple ID and also do Facetime?  If I use the same Apple ID I would think that my other devices would start to ring when I try to Facetime.  No?
If you know how to do this, can you please reply and give exact steps?
    Thanks so much in advance.
    -Eric

@dutra - Your suggestion worked like a charm. I have two options setup under my daughter's name in Facetime: Touch and iPAd. All I need to do is choose which I want to call. Easy-peasy.
@jeffreyfromorillia - This advice may be too late... But, register each device using your ID, as you should. Once this is complete do the following:
1 - Go to SETTINGS on device A
    2 - Choose FACETIME
          - here you'll see your ID in the account field -- ignore it/leave it there.
         - below you'll see the email field, enter your daughter's email addy (you don't have to worry about the "+XXX"      unless she has more than once device because it applies only to the multiple device scenario)
         - IF you have used your email addy in the email field, click on Add Another Email and enter daughter's addy      here, then go back and choose your email addy and click remove
You are good to go. Repeat same steps for your stepdaughter's device.
If either girl has multiple devices you want to Facetime, follow steps 1 and 2, and in the email field click on Add Another Email and enter - [email protected] - then go back and delete orignal email entered. Do same for second device - [email protected], remembering to delete orginal email here, too.
On your device go to Facetime and edit contact - it prolly shows HOME / WORK / OTHER, click on it and choose CUSTOM, name it iPod, then enter the NEW email "[email protected]" and do same for second device, customizing the field to read iPad, or whatever you choose... Now you should have two options to choose from for contacting Girl 1. Repeat for Girl 2.
Hope this works for you, it worked out splendidly for me.
    Cheers.

  • Can I Facetime between 2 devices with same Apple ID?

If I get an iPad 2 to take with me on the road, can I Facetime with my family (who will be at home on the iMac), even though both devices will be set up with the same Apple ID?

    Try it and find out.

You don't. One Device and one Apple ID.

this occurs when two people share the same icloud account.

  • Have been using FaceTime for long time with same person, for the last two weeks when trying to connect, we get connection failed message, something change in settings that we should look at?

Now getting FaceTime failed message when trying to connect with a person that were connecting successfully with up unto two weeks ago, has something changed?

Take a look around you here in this forum. Many people are talking about having problems using FaceTime. A few users claim to have contacted Apple and Apple says that they are aware of an issue with FaceTime and that they are working on it.
Some users claim that upgrading to iOS 7 solved there problem with FaceTime. Take a look around the forum and read some of the other discussions.

  • Using Facetime between iDevices sharing the same Apple ID

I want to set up my daughters' iPads using my own Apple ID so that we can all share the same apps, music, etc. but will we be able to have a conversation using Facetime?

Yes you can use the same Apple ID and still FaceTime to your daughter. You do have to add another email address to the other device .... But you also have to remove the primary Apple ID email address from that device as well.
If you set up your daughters iPad with your Apple ID -
Go to Settings>FaceTime>add another email address and add an email address that your daughter can be reached at for video calls. It obviously must be a working email address.
Apple will verify the email address and you will have to go to the inbox of that email address, follow the instructions from Apple in that email that they send you in order to complete the verification process.
After that is all done.... Go back to Settings>FaceTime> and tap on your primary email address (the one under "you can be reached for video calls at" and then remove your Apple ID email address in the next window.
Then you should be good to go.

  • IOS 8 double tap allows other device with same Apple login to see who other is messaging

I have two iPhones with the same AppleID account.  The iMessaging for each device is set to only send or receive message and FaceTime from the phone number for each device to keep them separate.  If device A is in a text message and the home button on device B is double tapped a notification will be visible to show device A is in a text message.  Device B can then tap this notification and the person being text in Device A becomes available and a new message to that person is then opened.  Not acceptable.  I have tried to unlink the two devices in any way I now how.  No luck.  The screenshot below is what Device B sees if Device A is composing a message.

That's just the way it works, since you're using the same Apple ID on both. If you have a problem with that, go to http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • Can 2 ios devices with same apple id not share stuff?

    Hi folks,
A bit of a long story but we've ended up with my wife's iphone and my son's ipad using the same apple id.
any app i buy for my son pops up on my wife's phone.
Can I turn off sharing? I'd like the calendar and other stuff to be seperate too.
Neither of them need any sharing to other devices either.
    Cheers

Use a different Apple ID for each person.  On each device, under Settings in the following areas, make sure that each device is only using the Apple ID assigned to that person:
iCloud (If you share an Apple ID here, your Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and PhotoStream photos will be shared, as well as using up the same free 5G of backup space.  And it's 5GB per Apple ID, not per device)
Messages (If you share an Apple ID here, you'll receive each others iMessages)
FaceTime (If you share an Apple ID here, you'll receive each others FaceTime calls)
GameCenter (If you share an Apple ID here, then certain games/apps will share the same progress)
iTunes & App Store (If you share an Apple ID here, you'll have access to the same iTunes & App store purchases.  This is the one place where it's not really a problem, since many families don't want to have to make multiple purchases of the same iTunes music or paid apps.  And you can prevent the new content from automatically downloading to other devices by disabling that feature in Settings > iTunes & App Store.)

  • How to sync apps to other iPhone, logged into Mac as another user, with same Apple ID for Store.

    Hi,
    I'll try to be brief.
Synced my (old) iPhone 4 to my iTunes library, as normal.
Restored contents of iTunes library to my new iPhone 5.  Everything worked fine here.
Performed full factory reset of iPhone 4 before allocating for my wife's use.
Created a new user account on my iMac for my wife (to keep things separate).
Created a new Apple ID specifically for my wife, so her iMessages, Contacts, Calendar etc. are all separate from mine.
Moved iTunes library to area that is common to both users (Can't remember exactly, it's something under /users/Shared, I think.  I followed a post in these forums.)
Pointed my iTunes library to this location (logged in as me).  My iTunes library works fine.
Pointed my wife's iTunes library to this location (logged in as my wife).
Set my wife's iTunes to use the same Apple ID as I use in the iTunes Store.  Again, I followed a forum posting.  The reason that I did this was to allow me sync purchased content to both iPhones.
Manually imported music folders from under /users/Shared into my wife's iTunes library.  (This music syncs successfully with my wife's/my old iPhone 4.)
However, the problem is that all the Apps that I 'purchased' (inc. free apps) and downloaded from the iTunes Store to my iTunes library previously do not appear in my wife's iTunes library (Apps tab) and do not sync to her iPhone 4.When I go to the iTunes Store, apps that I have previously purchased with my Apple ID appear with a 'Download' button underneath, as opposed to 'Purchase' or 'Install'—this confirms that by using my Apple ID, my wife's iTunes library knows what purchases I've made.  This is as you would expect.
Can anyone explain why the apps do not appear in my wife's iTunes' App tab?
    Anyone got a solution?
I thought I was going about things the right way by setting her up as a separate user on my iMac, creating her own Apple ID for everything except iTunes Store purchases, and using my Apple ID for connecting to the iTunes Store.
Apologies that I don't have the links to the relevant forum postings that I used as my guides.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Tx.

I have read wjosten's post on this thread but I don't think that is exactly the scenario I'm describing, nor is it what I'd like to have to do (sign my wife out, sign me in transfer/update apps, sign me out, sign me in).
That's the whole reason that I've configured her iTunes library to use my Apple ID.  It should, I would have hoped, allow the apps bought on my Apple ID (that we both use in our respective iTunes libraries) to seamlessly, automatically appear in her iTunes library, and update when appropriate, for that matter.

  • Set up family on several devices with same apple id

I have successfully started Family from my iphone and got my kids and wife connected. But when trying to add my ipad with same id as I use on my iphone I cannot succeed. It states that an account can only be connected to one family at a time. How is the procedure for this?

I could have solved it by inviting myself.

  • Two devices with same Apple ID

    Hi there,
Unfortunately we are not a very technical fami;y and by mistake, or lack of knowledge I set up my son's ipnone using my husbands Apple ID. I now realise that I have to create a seperate I.D. for my son but how do I delete or disconnect him from my husbands Apple I.D. account without erasing all of my husbands stored data?
    Thanks

    Hi,
On your son's iPhone you just need to remove the Apple ID in the places the iPhone is using it.
Let's start with the iPhone  > Settings > iMessages.
Start with de-selecting the Apple ID as one of the Send and Receive options
Then remove the Apple ID itself.
Place the iPhone in in Airplane Mode for a few Minutes. This breaks contacts with at least the iMessages server in this case.
Now turn to Settings > iCloud.
Again turn off all the settings that it may be syncing with.
then remove the Apple ID here.
You may have to check Settings Mail separately to make sure the email is not still listed for that app.
Again check the iTunes app, FaceTime  and the Game Center at least.
Then you can Add the new Apple ID that you or your son gets.
You will be extracting one items from the Sync processes fro the most part and the "registrations" for  FaceTime and the iMessages part of the Messages app.
It will not effect the data on your husband's Mac or any info he has in iCloud On line.

  • How do I stop my texts and pictures from going to other devices with same Apple ID

I share my Apple ID with my son on his Ipad and I phone.  how do I stop my photos and messages from automatically going to his devices.

It should be iMessages which are going from device to device, you can turn this off in recipient device. The same sort of thing for Photos, however on your phone/ipad you can turn off 'Photo Stream" which will stop the sending to other devices.  You can do this under Settings>Photos & Camera.
